About this house rental
We are so very proud to have been given the #1 market ranking by VRBO for Amsterdam as at February 2020. We aim for your stay at New Holland House to be an authentic Amsterdam experience, not just a rental. Top 10 reasons to stay at New Holland House:
NEW : Guaranteed early check-in and late check-out. Arrive as early as you like (great for those overnight flights from the USA, Canada or Australia) and leave as late as you like on the departure day. This means you could effectively experience the house and Amsterdam for 4 days for a 2 night stay !
1. Guests rent the entire house. This is extremely rare in Amsterdam - most canal houses have been divided into a number of smaller apartments. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 living rooms (one can be used as a 3rd bedroom), a large dining area, spacious chef's kitchen, 2 bathrooms, a laundry, a quaint patio and more. Basement is excluded.
2. Location, location, location. New Holland House is in the heart of old Jordaan. It overlooks the famous Pulitzer Hotel (of Oceans 12 fame!). Anne Frank House, "De Negen Straatjes" (9 Streets) shopping area, Dam Square/Royal Palace and the old cobbled streets of Jordaan are all at your doorstep. In all directions, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, boutique retail shopping, vibrant markets are all within the immediate vicinity. A supermarket, tram stop and taxi rank is just around the corner!
3. Picture perfect house - quite possibly the most photographed in Amsterdam! The combination of a 1650s monument old merchant's home, beautifully restored, with vibrant seasonal flowers in the window box provides an instant 'Wow' factor. You will be the envy of the passers by who frequently stop on the Prinsengracht to admire the house, and take a quick snap.
4. Daydream away with the canal views. The house is angled to overlook the Prinsengracht (and the Pulitzer Hotel) and the furniture is designed to maximise the aspect. Gaze out from the vintage French seat on the ground floor, the beautiful French desk on the first floor or the luxurious lounge on the first floor. It is truly captivating to watch the Amsterdammers walk, cycle and boat by New Holland House.
5. Unique character and charm - a masterpiece. As Owners, we have invested significant time, effort and cost in acquiring local paintings, furnishings, artefacts, books and antiques to give the house a cosy lived-in charm. Many rental properties (including expensive properties) have a minimalist approach or leave the shelves empty. This house we have made the way we (and Amsterdammers of old) would like to live there - it has a spirit and soul.
6. Hotel quality, 5 star Hotel luxury : linen, towels and product are luxury hotel grade (and acquired directly from hotels or hotel suppliers). Cleaning standards are set at the professional hotel level. Guests receive a welcoming supply of little extras and luxuries including an initial supply of shampoo/conditioner, body wash and soaps - even coffee beans for the machine ! Although the house may be old, it has been beautifully renovated, and includes modern luxuries you would expect - including high speed internet WIFI, Bluray player (together with DVD collection), and Cable TV.
7. Wake up and smell the coffee! Coming from Melbourne, top notch coffee is an absolute must. The Amsterdam designed, Italian made expresso coffee machine grinds the beans fresh for each cup of coffee, is simple to use and makes superb coffee - from an expresso right through to a latte or cappuccino !
8. A fully equipped Chef's kitchen. The kitchen is large, spacious and with everything you need, making cooking in Amsterdam all part of the experience - from an extra large 6 burner stove and oven, to a blender, or Villeroy and boch crockery, its all there ! Try visiting the Noordermarkt farmer's markets on Saturdays, or any number of nearby supermarkets or organic markets to inspire you in the kitchen!
9. Amsterdammer bikes included. Guests are welcome to use (without additional cost) the owner's top range Batavas Personal Bikes. These have been selected because they are unisex, reliable, easy to use and easy to adjust the seat height ..... and they look great! The cost of 2 rental bikes would be around Euro 25 per day, and not of this quality. This is a real bonus that is unique to New Holland House.
10. Perfect for a flexcation - as the owner frequently likes to do himself, the house is designed to make "working from home" a breeze. Super hi-speed internet (300 mbs plus), monitor, printer and a desk overlooking the canal. Combined with the great location and views, this IS the place for getting the job done!

This home is in the perfect location for exploring Amsterdam. We had everything we needed and more. We felt very comfortable here and would stay again next time we visit.

This apartment is close to many attractions, restaurants and grocery stores. Our host was responsive whenever we had any questions and provided recommendations on local restaurants. There are 2 flights of steep stairs which would be problematic for anyone with mobility issues. We loved our stay and can't recommend this apartment enough!

We had a wonderful stay in Amsterdam. The house was beautifully maintained and in the perfect location. The stairs are definitely steep, but add to the character of the house. We couldn't recommend the New Holland House enough.

The house was fabulous in every way: Location, amenities and above all the charm of staying in centuries old house in the heart of Amsterdam.

Charming, well-appointed home. A true Amsterdam experience. Yes, the stars are a bit steep but that is typical of such homes and well worth the extra cardio.

Nick was lovely, everything we asked for was arranged quickly and kindly. The house is amazing in its beauty. Perfectly located within walking distance of all the important places. You have to take into account the proximity to the big church whose bells ring every half an hour, 24/7. For those who sleep lightly, this could be a bit of a problem. Other than that everything is really perfect.

What a wonderful place to stay in Amsterdam! Close to everything, comfortable, plenty of space, and just as pictured. Easy check in/check out. We hope to stay again at this lovely place!

Great place!
Great house, amazing location, wonderful host! This is an amazing place! Coffee and treats in the fridge were a welcome surprise. Washer and dryer were lifesavers! We had unusual heat during our stay so likely the rare occurrence that AC would’ve been nice. As mentioned on other reviews, the stairs are not for the feint of heart ;-) Narrow and steep and best not to wear socks but shoes or barefoot for better non-slip on the wood. Thanks for the great stay! Highly recommend!

Excellent property to stay in
Clean, comfortable and quiet. Nearby eating places. Up to date appliances. Host was rapidly responsive and helpful. The flat was classic Dutch with a lot of character. Would highly recommend and stay here again.

Perfect Stay in Jordaan
Our VRBO in Jordaan was the best place we could have stayed for our amazing trip to Amsterdam. Our host, Nick, greeted us the minute we arrived... the location and convenience could not have been better... the house was clean and comfortable.

Will be back!
I have been to Amsterdam several times but this house really made the visit. It is comfortable with some unique luxuries and shops and cafes right out your door. I was traveling with my two grown children and the space was very comfortable.

Amazing canal home!
This canal home is just off the street that runs past the canal. You can see the canal from windows on all three levels. It is exceptionally located in the heart of the Jordaan so there are many restaurants and shops close by. There was plenty of room for three of us to spread out. Nick was a great host and was very available. The home has lots of information about the local area and the kitchen is very well stocked. We felt like locals for our week in Amsterdam. One of the best (of many many) rentals for us. Thanks, Nick for all your help!

Perfect location, great atmosphere
We had a wonderful stay at New Holland House. Host and communications were great. Stairs are steep, but manageable for our group of fit adults. Would definitely stay again.

Very disappointed
Property was not nearly as nice as advertised. Stair rail was falling off the wall (a very dangerous situation with the steep and narrow stairs; they finally fixed it in the 3rd or 4th day there), mold all over shower curtain, the fold our bed was filthy with no bed linens (we found some but they were stained and dirty), and one night there was a very loud party well past midnight.

Autumn in Amsterdam
We had a lovely time in this house: a perfect location for walking around the city, a good kitchen and a real Dutch vibe. Our host was attentive and always helpful when we needed advice.

This property is as-advertised and should be considered by anyone wanting to stay in the Jordaan / Nine Streets area. Mark, the owner, was very responsive from booking on. His son, Nick, is the onsite property manager and was also great. We had only one small request of him during our two week stay and he was there to help within 5 minutes. The house itself is a delightful merchant house with an awesome kitchen (including a Jura coffee maker pre-filled with beans), nice furnishings and decor, and a very interesting book collection. As noted in a few other reviews, the stairs are no joke!! By American standards they might be more accurately described as ladders, but they are quite typical for Dutch houses of this era. Our family (ranging in age from 43 to 8) had no issues with them whatsoever. That said, older visitors or anyone with mobility issues should keep this in mind. Thanks again to Mark and Nick for a wonderful stay. This is a trip we will never forget.

Weekend in Amsterdam
Great property in close proximity to many sites. Tram/Metro system close by and easy to use, but most everything is walking distance. Only negative is proximity to Westerkerk. The church is beautiful, however, the clock tower goes off every 15 mins.

Wonderful!
Thank you so much for sharing New Holland House with us- our stay was absolutely magical and the house was just perfect for us. It was cozy, clean, charming, meticulously curated and the location was incredible. It had anything and everything we needed (including umbrellas). We can’t wait to return!

Very cool old canal house, perfect location
We just returned from a week stay at the New Holland house and it was great. The house is perfectly located about 2 blocks from the Anne Frank House and makes the entire city accessible by walking or public transportation. There are great food and shopping options close to the house too if you don't want to go too far.
There was a little glitch on arrival - nothing big, just a mix up of who had the keys due to some maintenance issue they were addressing just before we arrived (broken microwave plate - nothing big!). After a cup of coffee at the hotel next door, however, we were in and set.
The house was clean and had everything you could need. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and cooking supplies if you need. There are several markets within a couple of blocks to stock up on supplies in the kitchen as you'd need. There was ample coffee and tea already in the house. The sheets and towels were all clean and comfortable and the house feels lived in and inviting.
One notable thing about the layout of the house. As expected in an almost 300 year old multiple renovated European house, the layout is a bit strange. The larger of the two bathrooms is on the first floor off the kitchen. There is a small, perfectly usable bathroom on the 3rd floor near the bedrooms, but it is SMALL. It does have a toilet, sink and shower though. A careful note about the stairs...they are no joke. They are narrow and twisty. If you have ANY difficulty navigating stairs (bad knees, etc.) you may want to reconsider this location. Even without any trouble going up and down, we definitely found ourselves planning ahead before going up or down to make sure we had everything we might need as to not have to go back again. Getting luggage up and down is certainly a challenge.
All in all, though, this is one of the coolest places we have ever stayed in Europe and you truly feel like you are living in Amsterdam for your time there. I would highly recommend the house!

Just perfect!
We needed a last-minute place to rent for just a few days, Mark was so accommodating and we were able to instantly book it as we boarded the flight, we were traveling standby! It’s a wonderful cozy home, it was perfect for us and we had three people. The stairs are indeed very steep but we managed them just fine. Great neighborhood within walking distance to many shops and cafés, loved the bells from the Westerkerk nearby and it was the perfect way to find our way back. Lidia and Dirk were gracious hosts, check in and out were smooth and Lidia provided good shopping advice. Wonderful stay!

The perfect family base for a week in Amsterdam. Prime location. Classic Dutch charm with just the right amount of modernization. We loved our time at New Holland House.

Beautiful Charming Property
We loved everything about this property! It’s Beautifully restored with everything you may need and more. Perfect location as well. The check in process was quick and easy and Lidia went over and above helping us out after we had already checked out. I would stay here again in a minute!!

Great stay in Amsterdam
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the New Holland House. It is an ideal location, in the city center but along a small street so that it is as quiet as possible. The house itself is beautiful and includes everything one needs for a comfortable stay, including a well appointed kitchen. With two adults and two kids, we felt we were staying in a home-away-from-home in the center of Amsterdam. We will definitely come back!

A wonderful five days
The property was exactly as advertised, very centrally located, with excellent access to central Amsterday. The home is beautifully appointed, a wonderful mix of old-world charm and modern convenience.

Perfect house in which to walk to everything you might want to see in Amsterdam . The location could not have been more perfect
6.0
Charming from the outside, not the inside!
The location of the house was excellent. The layout of the house was very restrictive and disappointing. The large (by European Standards) bathroom on the main floor was very nice, except the bedrooms were on the third floor, not the main floor. The bathroom on the third floor was so small that the door would open out and hit the stairway bannister. You literally could only use the toilet and shower because the tiny sink was hidden under a shelf.
The property manager was not very welcoming or forthcoming with helpful information. She explained there was smoke coming out of the dryer so not to use it, she would get someone to fix it in a couple of days and she never did. Maybe that's why the luxurious towels were so stiff?
The online and email description of the amenities were very misleading. We were told the house would be freshly painted. Only the middle floor of the house was freshly painted. The first floor was very dusty, the rug under the "dining table" table was full of saw dust, looked like it was never cleaned from when they sanded the steep narrow steps. Because these steps were unfinished, there were no treads and they were very slippery. The wooden bookcase under the steps reeked of smoke. We had to buy our own disinfectant/air spray to cover up the smell. There were cobwebs and dust on the first floor and in the queen bedroom. Also, be prepared for people constantly looking into the front window of the house and taking pictures.
If there is any doubt about what I described, I'd be happy to provide pictures of the inside of this property, taken on the first day of our rental.

Cozy, charming, comfortable - fantastic location!
Our stay at 2 Rozenstraat was amazing! The 3 story house was charming - 1st floor kitchen had everything we needed to cook (including fondue set), and sitting area with view of canal was cozy. Master bath also on first floor with claw foot tub, separate shower and towel warmer was luxurious. The 2nd floor living room/den with well-stocked bookshelves, gas fireplace, TV (which we didn't watch because - well, so much else to do in Amsterdam) and fold out couch was warm and welcoming. The third floor bedrooms (one with Queen bed, the other with two twins) were comfortable - extra down comforters were welcome during the cold spell! Staircases to 2nd and 3rd floors were pretty narrow and steep but manageable. Location was perfect - off the beaten path. We walked everywhere (<5 minutes to Anne Frank House and Tulip Museum (definitely learned a bunch about tulips; ~20 -25 minutes to Reijksmuseum/Van Gogh museum), grocery stores (Marqt, Albert Heijm) were about 10 minutes away, as was amazing cheese shop (Tromp). Too many restaurants to mention by name, but all within walking distance. Walking/shopping in Nine Streets area was really fun. Lidia was extremely helpful getting us settled in and making suggestions. All in all, an amazing find that let us feel like we were living and not just staying in Amsterdam!

Great place; great location!
The Dutch love gazellen (“cozy”) and holland house is super gazellen. It was bliss to kick back there after a hard day of sight seeing. Lux appointments throughout. Some choice cds on hand. Excellent mattress in master (didn’t try twins)
We somehow expected the house would face the prizengracht canal but Rozenstraat is perpendicular. The house does offer good partial views from every floor, especially the 2nd. If you need full on views, it’s 15 paces away.
The joordan has chic/gazellen bars everywhere (including Mercer hotel next door) but we liked a homey, locals only bar on a side street 3 minutes from house; go right out of house door (away from canal), then first left, with grolsch sign. After a drink there, we happened on pop up gallery with show by Justus donker (?). He was apparently big on nyc art seen in 80s. Got to hang with him and gallery owner. A very joordan evening.
The house bikes didn’t work out for us so we had to rent. Apparently they took a beating during street renewal. The owner (nice, accommodating guy) is aware but if you plan to cycle, you might want to confirm bikes are ready to roll and easily located.
My only regret is that ***** is all I can award Holland house. We would go back in a heart beat.

What a fantastic house! Beautiful home in an amazing location. Nicely appointed and very comfortable. Great kitchen! The stairs are steep but even our children managed so that is not an issuer. Would stay here again without question.

Great location for a stay in Amsterdam
This is the neighborhood you want to visit while in Amsterdam. The house was a great space for 4 people for a week. The stairs are a little narrow and steep to the upper floors but that is to be expected for the older neighborhoods. The house has all the amenities that one would need for a vacation. Everything one could want is steps away from the house. The house is quiet enough given its just off a main street. I would stay here again in the future and look forward to my return trip.

Fabulous canal house
This is the perfect place for two couples or a family. We loved the layout and design, and ended up staying in and cooking more than expected because the house is so beautiful and the fully stocked kitchen had all the equipment we needed, with many markets nearby. The house is historic, beautiful, and ideally located just between the Jordaan and Nine Streets districts. It's a gorgeous part of the city.
Be aware that the stairs really are exceptionally steep due to the nature of the house, and street noise and sunlight might pose issues for some travelers (I just wore ear plugs and used a sleep mask and was fine, but those in our party who weren't comfortable with ear plugs didn't sleep well). This is a gem of a house, we loved our stay, but it's not for everyone.
But my goodness, what a find! Loved it and recommend it highly with only a few caveats (stairs and street noise) that are not the fault of management. Overall this is a wonderful house that is extremely well cared for, and a beautiful, interesting, and unique choice for Amsterdam accommodations.

A charming and authentic Amsterdam home!
This is a lovely historic home located in the Jordaan, perfect for shopping, dining and sight seeing. The home is nicely furnished and the beds were quite comfortable. The large kitchen is a dream.
Two couples can easily stay in the home without running into each other at every turn. The stairs are a challenge as they are quite narrow, however this is a traditional Amsterdam house and has retained its charm. The property manager was very attentive and stocked the kitchen with a few items prior to our arrival.
The pictures accurately depict this charming home.
I would highly recommend this home and would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Amsterdam.

Fantastic
Great location and charming well provisioned house. I highly recommend this property. The only issue is the stairs which are quite steep. I will be back! The owner and manager, Lidia, are both superb and responsive.
