Great little rental. Location was perfect, walkable to everything in Ganges. Very clean. Right by the main road but we didn’t hear any road noise.
3.0 / 5.0
This property is not at all secluded as the ad suggests. Is it in the trees? Yes. And also RIGHT beside a main road. If you want secluded I suggest you keep looking, if you want central then this might work.
Additionally, this property is very old and has that musty smell that old houses do, no fan in the bathroom and lots of cobwebs. The washer and dryer were outside in a spider filled area. There is absolutely no private beach, there’s a grassy area and beach shared with the other families staying in one of the other houses on the property. Also - no continental breakfast.
We found the previous guests cell phone and the cleaner told us she just did “a quick clean” before us

A very comfortable and cute cabin in a perfect location. Great walking access to everything, nice patch of grass for the dogs to play in every day and because it’s in the trees it stayed relatively cool during some very hot days….although I would suggest bringing or buying a fan to use while there. The bed was comfy and it was very clean. Super quiet even though it’s close to town. Highly recommended for a couple, small family with or without pets. Our dogs loved it.

I came here for a girls weekend and the cottage had nearly everything we needed. The location couldn't have been more ideal and you're right by the action.
We had an issue with the shower and the property manager replied back promptly. It would have been nice to have more essentials in the kitchen like sugar for tea, etc. But overall it was a wonderful rental.

Excellent communication with owner and property care-taker. Friendly and accommodating. Loved the privacy of the property given the close proximity to the action of the village.

From the charming village, great eateries, wonderful hiking vistas, and glorious sunsets, Saltspring island is a lovely spot for a little getaway. This cottage provided a central location to launch the day exploring. A well outfitted kitchen with all the amenities you need to start the day off, including a bakery across the street, and groceries nearby. For those of us GF DF, no worries. You can easily enjoy a meal in or out, as the island is very friendly to those with dietary needs. We truly enjoyed our stay in the cozy cottage.

Beautiful cottage, everything one could need. Quiet, but walking distance to everything

Great location - so central yet off the main road and right by the harbour sea. Yard makes it feel like you’re right in the forest. Affordable and easy check-in / out process. Things we would recommend to owner: 1 extra bath towel per person, clean all kitchenware after guest use as we found old coffee in the French press, wash and shake out blankets in cupboard as we found what looked like a nest in the making and then were afraid to see a mouse, dust for cobwebs and spiders as there were multiple daddy long longs in the bathroom. Otherwise, everything we needed and definitely no deal breakers for the price and location. Had a great time!

There are both pros and cons to this property. The pros-Having caught an early ferry, I arrived earlier than expected. Tara, the property manager, was kind enough to let me in a few hours before 4:00 which was nice. It is a good location for walking to the market, shops, restaurants, etc. And yes, it is in a mostly forest type environment. What they ad doesn’t say is that the cabin is also about 100 feet from the main, very busy and noisy, road in to Ganges. It does not mention that there is a family of otters living under the house. Now, depending on your opinion of otters, this could be both a pro and a con. If you are travelling with small children or, as I was, with a dog, it would have been useful information to know. If you Google it, you will see that sea otters are quite capable of injuring or killing a pet. And the fact that they fought every night while under the house made sleeping difficult. Hands-down the worst con about this property is the horrific smell in the bathroom. I do not know how what appears to be a completely normal bathroom can smell so strongly and disgustingly like an old outhouse that has not been cleaned in a very long time. There are some serious septic issues. The rest of the cabin was fine. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was sufficient. There is no coffee machine. There are two coffee presses, neither one of which work properly. All things considered I would not stay here again. Too bad, it could be such a gem!!

The cottage is cozy with everything we needed for our week-long stay on Salt Spring Island. It's super easy to find from the main road and close to everything. We enjoyed walking through Ganges, taking in the shops and restaurants. We enjoyed our home cooked breakfast on the back deck that looked towards the woods. We appreciated the onsite washer and dryer, which meant we didn't have to cart around dirty clothes. The cottage is quiet at night and bright during the day. We slept really well and enjoyed the surrounding sites: Salt Spring Island cheese, hikes up Mounts Maxwell and Erskine, Hastings House, Moby's Pub, the Treehouse Cafe and the Wild Cider House. This cottage is great for two and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here while we celebrated our 10th anniversary.

The overall condition of the cottage was average. There was a strong smell from the bathroom and you could also smell this from the back deck. Septic leakage most likely. No outside lightning as stated in the listing. 2 granola bars were provided on our five day stay. Coffee and a light breakfast was stated in the add. This was not fulfilled. Beach access. Yes there was beach access, however the beach was covered in toilet paper and sewage. Possibly from boats dumping in the bay. I have kayaked all over the Gulf Island and have never seen a beach this disgusting. Having beach access was why we chose this listing. The cottage was located right next to the busy main road. Traffic was nonstop. I felt like I had not left the City (Vancouver). Kitchen amenities were good. Linens and towels were also good. There are as dirt/grass parking in front of the cottage which was very uneven. The step to the front door was very rickety. The back stairs had a step that was loose and about to break at any time.

Everything was really good. The only small issue was the bed was a bit short for a tall person.

Perfect location for us without a vehicle, close to town but still felt like you were in the forest surrounded trees. Lovely stay !

Very convenient location - easy walk to everything we needed in town. Great access to large grassy area and beach. There was some traffic noise but fairly quiet in the evening. Not a lot of daylight in the house but that probably helped keeping the inside cool.

Was a good little place to sleep. Beach was alright but the cabin is pretty shaded. Also a bit of a strange smell but overall great for the price and location!
4.0 / 5.0
Sofa and chair very uncomfortable. Strange smell in bathroom could mean septic needs empty. Needs better outside furniture. Even with that bed very comfortable. Easy access to everything, and we did enjoy the stay.
One last thing for a b&b not expecting daily gourmet but your offering for 6 nights really really crappy, need to up your game.

This little magical cabin is amazing! Literally the best of everything! Out front is the center of town and to the side is a magical little path to the water and you’re surrounded by woods! Even though it’s near the road leading into town I didn’t hear any traffic inside the cabin! And the dogs could roam out back since it’s all encased in beautiful woods and flowers (thanks to Tara’s green thumb)! There were perfect little snacks, maps and goodies waiting! All the essentials and then some! The bed was so comfortable and waking up to the sunrise in the trees was out of this world!! You can walk to anywhere in Ganges or walk a few steps to sit by a meadow right on the water! I was so sad to leave such a precious little place! I was lucky enough to cross paths with Tara who takes care of the property (and adds all the special touches) and talk about an absolute divine human! So kind and so lucky to have met her and shared a beautiful evening talking about this wonderful island life! Truly hope my fur boys and I can return!

Very happy with our stay. Cozy and rustic with everything we needed. You feel secluded yet it is in a perfect location to walk to everything. Great communication as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again!

This was a beautiful property and home that had a beautiful wooded backyard and was also within a walking distance from most things in the Ganges Village. It was beautiful, restful, and peaceful. Truly the highlight of our summer!

We had a great stay at the property. It’s located just a short walk from the town centre, as well as to the water. We were able to walk our paddle boards down to the water directly from the cottage. Even though it’s so close to the town centre, you get a decent amount of privacy since it backs onto a small forest. Although you can see the neighbouring house from out back. There’s a nice sitting area on the back porch and a small porch in the front.

Perfect getaway for the two of us!
We appreciated the location, perfectly tucked away and private from rest of property, yet SO close to town. Clean cabin with comfortable bed and everything we needed to stay a week. We hiked and biked around the island and this cabin was the greatest place to come back to after a big day of adventures!
Loved the large yard, beach access and that our dog was more than welcome around the property. The host was quick to respond. We will definitely come back! Thanks! Amanda and Kyle.

Salt Spring Island Retreat
Very nice contrast of the village busyness and the tranquility of the forest, stream setting where our cabin is. Beach access is a bonus of our stay in the cabin. Thank you!

Cozy little cabin
Overall very nice but too close to the road, I'm sure it would be nicer in warmer weather. not very easy to find due to the # on the gate hidden by tree's, should be more visible from the road. loved the grounds & little stream by the back patio. Furniture in living room not very comfortable.

Perfect for the two of us!
The cabin was clean and had everything to make our stay comfortable. Good bed, kitchen with all the supplies needed. Unfortunately the couch wasn’t very comfortable but when put with pillow the problem was solved. We’ll certainly be come back! Thanks! Marij & Arnold

Great cozy location
Really loved the coziness of this place. Unfortunately, the couch was terribly uncomfortable. Same couch as in picture with zero padding in the seating. Painful to sleep on with the crossbar. There was no coffee or breakfast bars as promised and the bathroom door needed to be closed at all time due to the septic smell. Aside from that, great place and would return when the couch is changed.

Winter getaway
Beautiful gardens, very tiny cottage but adequate and well equipped. Main space futon and chair very uncomfortable.

Small cabin on the outside, large and spacious inside
The cabin was perfect for two people. It makes excellent use of the small footprint and it is nestled among huge trees visible from all the windows.

October Break
Good location for access to all Ganges shopping etc but beside hill on main road so constant traffic during daytime. Dead quiet at night though. Among dense trees so dark inside. Very well organized and equioped.

Nice and clean just like the photos. Easy check in and convenient location to all Ganges has.
Lovely and romantic. A very nice and comfortable spot for people with pets. Beach access was as great as the huge yard to play and gaze over. A super nice comfy cabin. Small and mighty.

I had a wonderful visit recently to Ganges and what I loved most about this stay was how close it was to town. Absolutely within walking distance to the centre of town. I also loved the beach area that is literally just down the driveway, across the lawn and through the gate! The cottage is the perfect size for 1 or 2 people. I travelled alone with my puppy, and the very large yard and access to the beach really made a difference when travelling with a puppy. Just know that it may not be fully enclosed if the gate to the driveway is open, and the front yard is nearer the main road, but the front yard is huge and my dog was out there lots because the gate was open, so she'd come around, but I never worried because the area is not only huge, but really well treed, so you really can't see the road that easily or even know that it is there. The house was well equipped with everything I needed for cooking. If you rent this cottage, you will love using the washer and dryer...it is outside under a lean to. Definitely would rent this cottage again if I travel and stay in Ganges again.
