About this house rental
Make your Tucson visit memorable with a stay in a very unique travel accommodation. The Tennis House is one of two guest homes situated on the former estate of playwright Clifford Goldsmith in historic Casas Adobes. Goldsmith’s work includes Broadway, Hollywood and television, but he is best known for “The Aldrich Family” radio show. Built by noted architect Arthur T. Brown in 1947, this private estate was once called home by some other interesting people. Past residents include: Oscar-winning actor Lee Marvin, movie producer Larry G. Spangler, Kansas City Ford Exec. Rudy Fick (the auto dealer mentioned in the FBI’s notorious 1950 UFO memo) and newspaper publisher Carl Winter.
Like other ranches and citrus groves in the historic Casas Adobes area, development gobbled up most of the surrounding land over the years and what remains today is a tranquil 8 acre knoll covered with natural desert vegetation and abundant wildlife. The entire property, which you are welcome to roam, consists of this home, a main house (occupied by a nonprofit foundation) and two other guest houses. (One of these is The Bunk House listed on VRBO as #725631 and the other is The Ranch House listed as #4325448.) The property entrance is off the main road, but all buildings are set back over 600-800 feet and hidden from view. It feels amazingly peaceful and secluded here, but in reality you’ll only be about a mile or so from major shopping, dining and travel destinations, such as historic Casas Adobes Plaza, the Foothills Mall, Tohono Chul Park and NW Medical Center.
Private resort-style amenities on the grounds are exclusively for the use of our guests and include a tennis court, two pickleball courts, basketball, shuffleboard and a huge swimming pool (unheated) with views of the Catalina Mountains and city lights of the foothills and downtown Tucson. Sunset vistas over the Tucson Mountains are equally spectacular. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby hiking, golfing, horseback riding, and a network of paved bike routes throughout the area that can be accessed from the end of our driveway!
The Tennis House used to be home to the Goldsmith Family's nanny. It is aptly named for its proximity to the property's full-size tennis court, just a short walk from its back patio. It is peaceful and secluded with a charming "mid-century meets the west" feel. It is spacious, yet cozy and has approximately 1,050 sq ft. of beautifully decorated living area with a/c, WiFi, basic cable, kitchen with breakfast nook, authentic green linoleum floors, pink-tiled bathroom, plus generous closet, drawer & cupboard space. There are two identical bedrooms with queen-sized beds and plenty of pillows (one has a gel-infused memory foam mattress and the other has a firmer Posturepedic mattress). Both bedrooms have a window, large closet with plenty of hangers and built-in drawers, writing desk, chair, and two nightstands with lamps and a clock radio. The great room is spacious with dining for 6. It also includes a leather sofa, love-seat, armoire and flat screen TV. The retro-style kitchen is equipped with a range, microwave, refrigerator, garbage disposal, washer, dryer, coffee maker and toaster. Parking is steps from your front door and the back patio has a dining table for 6 with umbrella, two chaises, Weber grill (charcoal) and is shaded by a huge Palo Verde Tree.
Your stay in The Tennis House also includes: all linens & towels, dishes, cookware & utensils, cutlery, silverware & glassware, iron & ironing board, and a variety of board games, books and DVDs for your use (many with local or western interest).
The Tennis House is ideal for short or long-term stays for up to four persons interested in Tucson's history and looking for a unique, high-quality travel accommodation. We love this place and think you will, too! Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Just an absolute treat to get to stay here! Great location, beautiful views, fantastic patio and well equipped kitchen… in addition to the tennis/pickleball court and pool. We will definitely book here on our next visit to Tucson!

Always good to stay here. Beautiful pool, patio and CLEAN. We love the pickleball court.
It’s close to everything but the 8 1/2 acres gives much privacy. Great views both sunset and sunrise. We will stay here again

Everything is so enjoyable about this property! There is a tennis/pickleball court, an area to shoot baskets, a shuffleboard area, and a lovely pool to lounge around. All of the outdoor seating areas/patios have such wonderful views and the landscaping is great. The Tennis House is always such a comfortable accommodation with two bedrooms. Plus, Jeanmarie and Kelly are friendly and kind hosts with lots of great information on the Tucson area!

This was our second stay at the Tennis House and it was just as delightful (if not more!) than our first visit. Jeanmarie and Kelly are so welcoming and do a fantastic job of following up to see if you have questions or need anything. It's so peaceful on the property and we enjoyed walking the grounds and relaxing on the Tennis House's patio. Plus, we played on the pickleball court and lounged by the pool, which was fun! The location is also good for visiting all of the other wonderful Tucson sites. This property is a gem!

After 9 months of working from the road, visiting 11 countries, and traveling some 3000 miles in the southwestern U.S., we found this stay, the quality of all that Jeanmarie and Kelly provided, and the fun retro setup among our very favorites to date. Super value and quality for the money. Their care and concern for their guests is evident and real. Fully equipped kitchen, great linens, and great attention to the smallest guest request. Thank you!!

Memorable Tucson getaway
We had a fantastic stay at the Tennis House! JeanMarie and Kelly are welcoming hosts. They have just the right balance of being available for questions and respecting our privacy. The Tennis House was immaculately clean and equipped with everything we needed. The history of the property is so fascinating and woven into the wonderful furnishings of the Tennis House. The location is great -- short drives to Catalina State Park, Saguaro Natl Park (East & West), Sabino Canyon, and downtown Tucson. We also enjoyed our private patio and the pool deck area. While the pool was a bit chilly (in late March) it was a refreshing way to cool off by dangling your legs in the pool. I highly recommend this property and look forward to booking my next stay!

Getaway from Mn winter
We were warmly welcomed to Casa Adobes and given a tour and some interesting history of the place. Salsa and chips left for us with a welcome note was very nice. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the pickle ball court with friends. We hope to return again.

Nice get away for 8-9 days....
This property was an excellent stay for my wife and I. The pictures of the property do justice to what the property looked like when we arrived. Everything was very neatly organized including the kitchen, bathroom amenities, etc. We'd consider staying there again when visiting the Tucson area.

Quiet Tucson Stay
This property is tucked in off a busy road in the foothills. We enjoyed the tennis house for it’s space, quiet setting, cleanliness. The location is about 20 minutes from downtown and just about anywhere else. Not an issue. Great dining options in the area. There are also three farmer’s market on different days within 15 minutes. Rental car and willingness to drive around is necessary to see the area. Or just staying on the property to relax is good too!
Thank you, Jeanmarie for a great time!,

Awesome Experience
This is a great place to stay. Clean, comfortable, great location and Jeanmarie is super nice. She was super helpful in flexing our dates due to the pandemic, which we really appreciated, and even gave us a tour of the property. Thanks so much, Jeanmarie. We’ll be staying with you again soon.

Amazing Tennis House/Property
My husband and I stayed at the Tennis House in Nov. for a week. Jeanmarie and Kelly were wonderful hosts. They were kind enough to check-in with us to make sure we had everything we needed, which we did. The house was very clean, comfortable & private. We used the tennis court, played shuffleboard, read out by the beautiful pool, grilled on the patio & walked the spacious property many times. We would not hesitate to stay there again and again!!!

Private desert oasis in town
This property is very special. The "Nanny's" house was a cozy but roomie home that has been updated while still keeping the feel of the 1950's. The patio overlooking the mountains is large and shaded by a beautiful Palo Verde tree. The tennis court and the pool are just a few feet from the patio. It has very comfortable beds, a well stocked vintage looking kitchen and lots of open space outside full of desert plants. Though very private, you are a mile or two from Whole Foods, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Walmart and lots of restaurants. The owners are wonderful to work with and available at all hours. We look forward to returning to this property .

Exceptional opportunity for vacation
The property is beautiful -- every type of desert plant, naturally landscaped piece of the Southwest-- beautiful skies and views, private. The location is private and serene. The house is a perfect size and a terrific work of restoration of a 1940's small home. The tennis pickleball court is right outside the door and very fine to use with new nets. The swimming pool is beautiful, altho it was still too cold to use at the beginning of April. The surrounds however, were splendid to lounge in/on. Shopping plaza with Whole Foods et. is close-by.

Great Location and Hosts Couldn't Have Been More Helpful
It would be hard to find a more central spot in Tucson. The house is a bit quirky in terms of layout but also fun, and had everything we needed. When we ran into a problem the hosts responded immediately and fixed it. We were so happy to have stayed there!

Very clean, private home, with a pool just steps away. Everything worked...no issues at all.
A nice secluded home, with perfect amenities. Furnished in mid-Century deco, that reminds of younger days. Private, peaceful, wonderful grounds, pool, and close to shopping when needed.

Good location!
This place is super clean with comfortable beds and everything you need to have a great homey vacation. The outdoor spaces are private, with nice views and pretty quiet for being in the city. Shopping, lots of great restaurants, groceries, drug stores, down the street a mile or so. Close to great hiking (Pima Canyon) and the foothills. Owners were terrific to work with. Would stay there again, anytime I'm in Tucson.

A hidden gem
Our family (my husband, myself and our 5-year old and 3-year old) stayed at the tennis house for a week and had a great time on this fantastic property. The house was exceptionally clean, very well appointed, and the location was prime. The property is quiet and private with gorgeous views, but it is ideally located close to grocery stores and restaurants and popular things to do in the area. The house itself is really thoughtfully decorated and updated while still maintaining the "retro" vibe- and again, very clean. The grounds were very entertaining- all of us enjoyed playing tennis and pickle ball and just walking around and looking at the different vegetation and wildlife. The pool is unheated, so too cold to swim while we were there (early March), but still nice to sit pool side and enjoy the sun and mountain views. The court and hitting wall are in fantastic condition and provided lots of entertainment in the sunshine for us. The patio has great furniture and a big, gorgeous Palo Verde tree that gave a chance to get out of the sun without having to go inside. This property is really a gem. If we return to the Tucson area, we will definitely choose to stay here again. The owners are readily available to answer questions, give recommendations on the area and different spots to eat or attractions to see. That was a huge help having never been to the area before . Thanks for a wonderful spot Jeanmarie and Kelley!

Beautiful Home in the Desert
We enjoyed our view of the mountains and relaxing in the hammock. The dining room table is big enough for guests. Restaurants and grocery stores are close, as well as an urgent care center. If you play tennis, so much the better.

Fantastic Getaway
My husband and I, along with two other couples, rented all three units on this property. We are pickleball enthusiasts and we loved that there were two pickleball courts on the property. Each unit was unique with updated appliances, but the character and history of the property was retained. There is quick and easy access to restaurants and shopping. Kelly and Jeanmarie were easy to work with, friendly, and willing to do anything to make our stay perfect. In and around Tucson we found lots of other outdoor activities to enjoy. Beautiful property, beautiful city, and beautiful weather.

Had a great time! Great accommodations!
We stayed at the Tennis House and loved our accommodations. This house was a great size for our family of four, and had very cute and relevant decorations. The house had tons of storage room, so lots of room to put your things away if you are there for a while. We couldn't come up with anything that was missing except a blender. The kitchen was well stocked and they left us a bag of chips and salsa (which was yummy), a couple bags of popcorn, coffee pods for the Keurig, laundry soap, regular soap, and so much more. They really have thought of everything. We also loved using the tennis court, shuffle board, pool, and pickle ball. We took advantage of it all. Good grocery stores and some great restaurants were also close by. Like I've read on other reviews, the driveway is right off a major road, but you would never know it once you are at the house. The grounds are very nice. The owners are very nice people and were available if anything was needed. If we come back to Tucson we will be staying there again. Thanks so much for everything!

The grounds were really nice. Buildings were recently remodeled. It was very private.
This was my second time using VRBO. It's always a little scary not seeing the property other than the website. This place is was so homey. Incredibly clean. So many extras thought of to make it feel like home!! The pool was awesome. The tennis court was awesome. (We wished we could play!). Also basketball, pickle ball, and shuffle board! Can't beat all that! It was nice to be able to grill and sit outside on the beautiful patio! We used it everyday at breakfast and during the day. The property is centrally located to so many areas and close to the expressway. I would definitely consider staying again!! It just was so nice not staying in a hotel! And so private. The owners are so accommodating. Just loved the whole experience!!!

Tennis House Stay
We loved this charming and functional retro style ranch house on it's beautiful western acreage. We sat on the patio most evenings and watched the ever-changing sunsets on the Catalina Mountain range.
The tennis house was comfortable, quiet and spotless. It was well appointed and Kelly and JeanMarie had stocked it with many extras which we appreciated.
It was in a perfect location to quickly reach all of our favorite day hiking destinations and also conveniently near many grocery stores, shopping malls and restaurants.
We would definitely consider staying at the Tennis House on our return trip to Tucson.

A gem of a cottage
We stayed in the Tennis House for a month and really, really enjoyed it. The size was perfect for the two of us. We loved the period feel and the careful attention to detail in the decor, appliances, fixtures, etc. The location worked out really well for us as well. This was our first visit to Tucson, and it turned out that the Tennis House was close to several major roads while still being private and quiet. Easy access to the Canada del Oro section of The Loop paved trail, which we walked on at least 7 different times during the month we were there. Close to grocery stores, restaurants, a mall with movie theater, and a great library. The hosts, Jean Marie and Kelly, were very pleasant and accommodating to work with. Two thumbs up from these snowbirds from Wisconsin!!

Erehwon retreat
A great setting for someone who needs some peace and wants to repair frazzled nerves!
Located close to the middle of the city(instersection of Oracle and Ina, miraculously there were no sounds from the streets) and minutes away from good restaurants you are on a secluded ranch in a tastefully appointed house with anything and everything you may need. A sizable swimming pool, a new tennis court... It's all there!
We had a great time

We really enjoyed our stay at Casas Adobes as it is a unique property with an interesting history.
My wife and I stayed at the Casas Adobes really enjoyed the stay. The amenities exceeded our expectations and the house was spotless. We spent time lounging around the fantastic pool, although it is not heated so too cool for swimming in February. If you are a tennis player you cannot beat having your own private tennis court. The owners were very nice and concerned that we had everything we needed. Quiet, charming and we would definitely stay again if in Tucson.

Sucluded and Peaceful Find
Just spent two weeks at this Wonderful guest house. It was well equipped and very comfortable, with a bonus of being secluded and peaceful.
Although we didn't use the pool it was a fabulous place to lounge and enjoy the views, so beautiful. We did enjoy our own private patio for
barbecuing, eating and napping in the hammock. Can't think of anything that we needed or wanted that wasn't available, the location makes it
easy to get where you want to go and is close to many choices for shopping and dining. I can't stress enough how peaceful and private this
location is, just great for real down time! The owners could not have done more to make our stay welcoming and comfortable,
I would highly recommend Casas Adobes.
