About this cabin rental
Get Away to an unspoiled natural environment where several eagle sitings daily are common. A place that has been virtually untouched and unspoiled, that is Beaver Island. Our cabin (Eagle's Rest) is situated 100 feet from Lake Michigan on a 10 acre Parcel. The views of Lake Michigan and High Island are spectacular!
Getting to Beaver Island: The first stop is Charlevoix, MI, a Lake Michigan harbor city located approx 250 miles north of Detroit. You can also fly into Pelston or Traverse City airports and connect to Beaver Island Ferry (https://www.bibco.com/) or Island Airways in Charlevoix (islandairways.com). From Charlevoix take a quick 20 minute flight or the 2 hour leisurely ferry ride on the Emerald Isle. Either way, it's an amazing adventure!
The link below lists all available transportation services getting to the island as well as once on the island
https://www.beaverisland.org/transportation/
***PLEASE NOTE: If you are planning to bring your car over, you typically have to book in advance, we advise you call to make sure the ferry has availability before reserving to stay at our cabin***
When you arrive on the island you will find a place that will take you back in time. Slow, patient, friendly and Beautiful! You might want to stop at the Shamrock for a beverage after the ferry ride or take the scenic 20 minute drive straight out to Eagle's Rest. Distance is measured by time on the Island, most of the roads have not been paved...it's just another way to make you slow down!
When you reach Eagle's Rest the drive in is through a wooded pathway into a vast open area with scattered trees along the perimeter. Eagle's Rest was first built in 2004 with the original cabin. It has since been added on to with a larger additional cabin with a lovely connector. It is very charming, with spectacular views of Lake Michigan and High Island. It has a great front porch, screened in rear porch and large rear decks overlooking the lake. All furnishings are new or local antiques. Eagle's Rest has an outdoor (and indoor shower) shower with cold and hot running water. It is the renter's responsibility to bring their own sheets and towels. Eagle's Rest has a charming decor with an open layout which includes 33 large Anderson windows, many are floor to ceiling overlooking Lake Michigan. There are 2 large lofts with single beds and a bedroom with a king sized bed. The main floor has a comfortable pull out couch. It's perfect for a family of 2-7.
You may enjoy a good book overlooking Lake Michigan, take a swim in the clear lake water, explore the island and over 100 miles of roads and trails, kayak using the 2 kayaks provided, go for a bike ride using the 2 bikes provided, fish on one of the 5 inland lakes, roast marshmallows in the fire pit on the beach, admire the vast array of stars, discover some of the other islands in the Archipelego, visit the spa for a massage, play nine at the Beaver golf course, lounge on the patio, cocktails at Nina's, Donnegal Bay to enjoy the sunset, visit the CMU Biological center, or the 2 lighthouses on the island, Little Sand Bay, Iron Ore Bay or simply do Nothing! This is a vacation you will never forget and leave feeling truly rested.

Beautiful. Not quite finished in places but finished enough. Great view, not great for swimming, quite rocky. Good for kayaking.

We loved staying at Eagle’s Rest! The view is spectacular, especially for sunsets! You can see Lake Michigan and High Island from inside the cabin, and you get an even better view from the deck and fire ring. We really liked the cabin too, even with the unfinished bits, it was so cozy and charming. Everything was really clean, although we recommend bringing your own blankets in addition to sheets and towels. Be prepared for a ton of bugs — you will need bug spray, hats, and long socks to enjoy an evening fire. I wish the loft above the king bed had a railing —while it would be hard to fall off the ends of the beds, it seems like this would be a necessary safety feature to have in place. We also wished that the window screens weren’t so ripped — if it would have been warmer, we would have definitely appreciated opening the windows to get the lake breeze. With the bugs and the ripped screens, almost all of the windows facing the lake are not able to be opened. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, though! It was so peaceful listening to the waves and birds and seeing the rocky shore and stars right from the cabin. 10/10 if you’re looking for natural beauty and rustic cabin charm!

Overall, great trip. The island is wonderful, the location was good, and we really appreciated it being a dog friendly property. That said, my expectations were higher for cleanliness. Main points: mattresses are stained/need vacuuming and do not have covers. I am very glad we brought blankets. The blankets that are in the house are dirty. There is mess in every drawer/shelf. It is clearly a family vacation home, but it is difficult to get comfortable when there’s no place to put your stuff away. As the pictures show, part of the bathroom is unfinished. That was understood, but the inside of the unfinished bathtub has gotten dirty/moldy and is no longer covered like it is in the picture. The shower needs a very good cleaning, the floor had quite a bit of mildew. There was a persistent smell in the kitchen. Possibly from the disposal or from the cabinet under the sink. We had to find an extension cord in a drawer somewhere to run the disposal (we did not put any food down there). There were cobwebs and spiders in every corner. I suspect that the owners live downstate and rely on someone to clean the place. But it is not being cleaned very well, despite a high rental price and a decent cleaning fee. Other notes: beach is beautiful, but rocky. Chairs by fire pit are broken/uncomfortable, need replacing. Loft sleeping spaces are open to living room and bedroom and accessible by ladders. Kitchen counter/sink needs repair, gap lets water leak into cabinet below.

If it's peace and quiet with beautiful views, this is the place for you! Great fire pit (although some type of lighter or matches would have been nice, thankfully local hardware store had plenty) and deck to relax.
If you're looking for large space for many to sleep...keep looking. The main bedroom has a king bed, very comfy. The two usable lofts (best one in main bedroom) are not ideal for grown adults. Dusty with low ceiling and slanted walls. Ladder to get up and down is straight up and down, zero slant. The saggy short sofa is a hide-a-bed, we didn't use. Bring extension cords if you're a CPAP user.
We were inundated with fruit flies from 4 nicely ripe tomatoes on window sill. Thankfully he had Apple cider vinegar we could use to trap them.
The smoke detectors were in a cupboard. Electrical wires sticking out EVERYWHERE. Mind you we booked this place in May and arrived early September. Plenty of time in my estimation to complete this important task.
The bathroom STILL is not finished. Outlets not working.
Just want to make those aware so you know what you're getting.

It was very remote - but nice

The best getaway spot. Basically have your own little bay. It’s so peaceful here. A few areas where cleaning could be improved but not bad. The house is in the middle of being updated but this for the most part didn’t hurt our stay at all. Such a cool place to be

Beautiful cabin. Some stuff unfinished, like the bathtub. But did not effect enjoyment of trip at all. Beautiful cabin and property. Remember to bring your own sheets! Loved biking the island!

A quiet and cozy cabin
This cabin is a treasure on Beaver Island - nestled in the woods, looking northwest over the beach and water to High Island, with great biking, walking, and kayaking right from the property. You can watch the sunset from the cabin or walk down the beach to watch from a nearby point.
The beds are comfortable, with plenty of options between two lofts and a large king bed. The kitchen is well-equipped, with plenty of pans, utensils, and storage in the large french-door fridge and freezer drawer.
That said, the cabin is definitely a labor of love and a work in progress. The bathroom is unfinished, as pictures show, but usable. Doors and windows are missing trim and quite drafty when a fall wind blows from the north/northwest. The electric baseboard heaters help but can't deal with a serious cold -- this is likely a three season cabin. An exposed electrical outlet in the loft shocked my curious four-year-old (a good life lesson to learn, with no harm done). Some wiring is unfinished - switches for lights not yet installed. Honestly, the cabin made me wish I had my tools so I could make some quick fixes.
All in all, I highly recommend the cabin to any family with children or small group of adults.

Beautiful haven
Eagle's Rest was a lovely remote haven for our family to spend time together. There was some mix-up when we arrived, but the manager handled this very quickly and all was resolved. We loved walking on the rocky beach, enjoying looking for unusual rocks and skipping stones, watching the lovely sunset, reveling in the quietness and seclusion. We also loved exploring the island, lighthouses and points of interest. There were beautiful walks to be enjoyed in the woods and on the road.

Lovely and secluded
The property is very beautiful and secluded. We had our own private beach. We saw bald eagles and swans and various other wildlife. We enjoyed sitting out on the back deck watching and listening to the waves. It was a perfect getaway. We hope to return next year.

No place to put your stuff, crusted poop on bedcover
See the lovely armoire in the the bedroom? It's locked. Every basket, bin, shelf, and cubby is full of owner's belongings. There are three pegs close together in the bedroom for your use. We stowed our stuff on the tub/plywood and so it wouldn't get wet I tried to shower outdoors. The sloping cobblestone platform was a slippery challlenge. I think there was meant to be a small flat wooden pallet or boardwalk to stand on over the drainage rocks? Enjoyed some nice rides on the bike. One of the picturesque green Adirondack chairs was broken.

Loved every minute of it!!!
This was exactly what we were looking for. The sunsets are amazing to watch over the lake. This was our first experience at Beaver Island and we can’t wait to go back

Charming and rustic worth the trip to the island.
Cabin was well cleaned and ready for our arrival, good thing we brought our own garbage bags as none were provided not even a recycle bag which is needed for trash disposal on island. Views were breathtaking and overall everything was great I would suggest that some railings get put up where beds are up top and also on the front porch quite a drop off with no railings. Would definitely have given 5 stars if everything was finished but would definitely come back for another stay as it is charming and rustic just be prepared to entertain yourself as no cable there is a DVD player and VCR with a few movies there too chose from and we had no phone service but that's what made the entire trip that much more memorable.

This was a great place to get away, rest and recharge while disconnecting a bit from the world.
We had a wonderful experience. The setting, right on Lake Michigan, is gorgeous. We had a great time.

If you are looking for peace, serenity and natural beauty, this is your place. The property is perfectly located, and the home a beautiful work in progress. The Island is like stepping back in time and yet has every modern convenience that we needed.Waking to the sound of the waves, birds singing and a quiet walk down the road through the woods was what we looked forward to every morning. Afternoon drives revealed beaches, dunes, lots of deer and even a wolf. The owner has put much thought into designing the home, including a fun outdoor shower with warm water. We will definitely be returning if we can. Thanks Gerry!

Great location. Needs cleaning.
We had a fun week on Beaver Island. It was our first time there. We spent the weeks on beaches, in the woods, and around the campfire in the evening.
Pros and cons of this property:
Pros:
+Sunsets over High Island
+Almost zero noise, other than an occasional airplane going to the island airport. Almost zero traffic down this dead end.
+Kayaks and bikes included (2 each)
+That Up North rustic feel
+Wildlife. Spotted 5 eagles, including a young/mature pair. Also saw many deer, a huge fish (3’) preying the shallows, bats, etc.
+Clean, clear water
+Allowed is to check in early.
+Responsive. Answered all questions quickly.
Cons
-Not clean. Mouse poop everywhere when we showed up. A dead mouse in a mouse trap. Spider webs plentiful. Lots of ants inside. We know we are up north in the woods, but the owner said that he had it professionally cleaned before we came. The cleaning needs to take place directly before renters come. Also, an exterminator is needed.
-There are actually three lofts. One has no ladder, one has no rail, and the third has a ladder and a rail, but the ladder was very tall and not secured to the loft, so we used our own bungees to strap it in place.
-Only one inside garbage bag provided (plus one big bag for disposal at the dump station), almost zero hand or dish soap, and 1.5 rolls of TP for a week’s stay.
Overall, can’t beat the location, solitude, or the rustic feel. Needs work on cleanliness.

Beaver Island beauty
Firstly Beaver Island is exactly what you get when you seek out rawness, solitude, wild and miraculous weather
Gerry the owner of the cabin was very attentive to all and many of my questions
His place is on a superb spot, which allowed for perfect quiet with outstanding beauty. Be prepared to bring most things you can think of as there isn’t much an the island, ie food, king size sheets and pillow cases, extra bath towels, BUG SPRAY (DEET would’ve been absolutely packed if knew how bad the mosquitoes were)
We had a few bumps on our stay, Gerry was quite helpful with ironing them out.
I would absolutely journey back to this island, come a bit more prepared and relish again in the 6 gorgeous days we spent there!

Lovely location
We had a marvelous time on Beaver Island. The owner Jerry was very responsive, but unfortunately the place was quite dirty especially the mouse droppings in the kitchen and the upstairs bedroom. One of the beds was listed as a queen size and actually is a king which, since you have to bring your own sheets, is a bit of a pain, but not a huge deal. The advertised two bicycles were there but one had a flat and one of the two kayaks is actually for a child so if everyone is tall it could be challenging. These are not huge deal breakers for us- other than the cleanliness -but we recommend that the owner update the listing information to be more accurate and also invest in proper cleaning. Jerry offered a 50% refund of the cleaning fee which frankly should have been 100%., but since we have not received any of the refund - two months later - it seems a moot point. All that said though, this island is pretty special and we appreciated the opportunity to explore it.

Quiet cabin, great view
Overall experience was pleasant. The place is a work in progress which wasn't really a problem except the lighting wasn't good making it a little challenging for a fall stay. The hot water was turned quite low as well. Tacking on a cleaning fee makes expectations for cleanliness a little high. This place could be worth quite a bit more once it's finished and I would suggest incorporating the "cleaning fee" into the price.
We had a great time, the location is quiet and beautiful, fairly secluded and close to trails.

Cute with Real Character
I actually stayed back in July of 2015 and I never left a review! The property was wonderful! It was under construction, but still a beautiful place to be! We had a wonderful stay, and Gerry was very accommodating with all of my questions and concerns. The bathroom was being worked on so we actually had to shower outdoors, which was a little wild for our stay, but we made a make shift shower curtain, and things worked out perfectly! We had an absolute blast, and we will definitely be back!

Perfect getaway where time is standing still ...
Hi Gerry,
It occurred to me that I never gave you feedback to our stay at Eagle’s Rest:
Everything worked out just fine and even better than we expected – we found our way on our bikes easily to the cabin. Upon arrival I was looking all over the place for the keys as described in your directions, however, could not find them. Until my husband checked the door and it was unlocked. A pleasant surprise.
The cabin is very well equipped and we found everything we needed and more. We greatly enjoyed the outdoor shower and hope that you will still leave it as an option to the beautiful bathroom you are building. We slept in on our last day and proceeded to start cooking a wonderful breakfast with some ingredients we bought on our bike trip to the village. On the second day vacation mode set in and we relaxed completely – a good thing – however, I was not aware, although stipulated in your lease – that we had to leave at 10 am sharp as I mentioned in my email that we will take the afternoon ferry back to the mainland. I just came out of the shower as your friendly neighbor knocked on the door shortly before 10 am. We had to abandon the cabin in a hurry, packing up the half-cooked breakfast and leave. Oh well, a quick farewell to this most gorgeous place you own. I guess in such a remote place, far away from civilization (so it feels) we did not realize that time still is passing quickly …
We left the island after a great experience “downtown” watching the 4th of July parade rolling through the village twice and meeting many kind and genuine friendly folks.
Enjoy your summer and wishing you good luck with your final touches on your very professionally done remodeling job.
Greetings,
Susanne.

2nd year in a row and couldn't have asked for better
My last review was from our first trip one year ago. This year we rented the cabin for 5 days and we had even more fun than we did last time. Everything I said before still stands true (see perfect weekend getaway below). Honestly it was really neat to see the addition to the cabin and it was so nice having all of that extra space. The view was just as beautiful as I remembered it with the same comfy cabin feeling. We took the kayaks out again and we had days worth of fun. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this little gem one year ago and took the risk of trying something new. We will be yearly vacationers and will always stay at this cabin. This year we also checked out the beach in town and had a lot of fun there. I still stand true when I say that everyone is so friendly on the island and the water is absolutely beautiful. The trip through the muck in the back to get the kayaks out to the water is almost like a secret passage way to the most beautiful relaxing time on the water. Again, nothing but great things to say about this location.

Perfect weekend getaway
My boyfriend and I stayed at this cabin for a weekend. Everyone on the island was very friendly. We had quick responses and communication with the owner of the cabin. The owner of the rental car company did not have a car available on our day of arrival so she picked us up and took us to our cabin then delivered a car to us. All while giving us a tour of the island. We went out to eat and everyone was so friendly and we found people who were from the same home town as us. The cabin was perfect for the price. They are adding onto the cabin but in no way shape or form did this hinder the feeling of staying in a cabin for us. It was nice to be able to use the indoor toilet tho! The bikes and kayaks were a HUGE plus. We went for a 3 hour bike ride and happen to ride by our neighbors(which we found out after we stopped and asked for directions) who were very friendly and gave us many inside tips on the island. We took the kayaks out for a full day. If you are an adventure person and not just a relax on the beach person then this is the perfect spot. You have to truck through a little muck to get the kayaks to the water but it is worth it! Once you get out to the water it is absolutely beautiful. It was only about 72 degrees the day we were out on the water but the water was so warm! The grill and fireplace were great to cook and relax at the end of the night. The shower is out on the back deck of the cabin, kind of tucked away tho, which was a great experience. I loved showering outdoors and just seeing the beauty of everything around. Overall I have no complaints. If you wanted to get away and be left alone and hang out at the cabin all weekend you could or if you wanted to go out and explore you could. We will defiantly be coming back!

Wonderful
My family and I stayed at the cabin for five nights in July 2013 and had an amazing time. The cabin was just as explained in the listing. The caretaker was very helpful and we received quick response times and good information from the owner. This cabin along with the island are very relaxing. We cannot wait until we can visit again. Thank you very much!

Peace and Quiet
Great place to stay if you want to relax. The cabin is rustic, and yes, the large addition is not completed, but the working toilet was nice to have! And the property will look wonderful upon completion. Will definitely consider staying here again.

Not what I was expecting
This is a lovely setting and the cabin is sort of like what is pictured. The problem for me was the building it is attached to (not shown in the photo) which is currently half built. No longer rustic, and more like a construction site if you like that sort of thing. I made the best of it but felt duped. As far as peace and quiet, I was treated to several evenings of fireworks from a nearby property, which terrorized my dog and almost made me wish I had stayed home. Beaver Island is great and I will come back, but not to this property. There are alot of better options.
