The property impressed with its spaciousness, accommodating host, and nearby attractions. Comfortable lodgings with ample room for a large group and convenient amenities.

We are part of a Portuguese Folklore Dance group that gets invited to dance at the annual Portuguese Festival in Point Loma each year. With it being Memorial Weekend and lots of graduations happening, hotels were impossible to find.
We came across this property and it did not disappoint! The owner, Dan, was very communicative and always answered in a timely fashion. He accommodated our check-in needs as we were traveling more than 8 hours to get there. The property itself had more than enough space for all of us (we had 13 of us) and it was super close for us to hang out and do some extra curricular activities in our down time.
We will definitely be booking with Dan and his property again in the future and I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for something that holds at least 10 people.

A great house for a large group, and our family had a good time.
The location was convenient and the neighborhood was sate.
The owner was very accommodating and responsive, despite his not having notified me of possible addition of an earlier check-in date (and therefore charging for earlier check-in time).
But:
The property needs a lot of maintenance.
There were small ceiling leaks in living room and studio.
The washing machine drain was plugged leading to overflow, but the owner had a plumber come out quite promptly to fix it.
There was a great double oven and a convection oven as well.
The kitchen was well-equipped with utensils and implements.
The dishwasher however was in need of replacement; didn't wash, and was rusted, and could only be used as a drying rack..

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is convenient for La Jolla Shores beach and for our group, the multiple bedrooms were a great fit.
The adjacent property has a great, spacious entertainment area which the owner, Dan, very kindly allowed us to use even though we were not renting the house.
Dan as host was very communicative and easy to get along with and made sure we had what we needed.
This is a great venue for a large group who are content with rustic beach accommodation. We had working utilities, jacuzzi, BBQ and comfortable beds in large bedrooms.
We will be back next next year for the same weekend and but rent the entire complex (both houses) if available.
Thank you again to Dan being so accommodating (excuse the pun!).

Our family of 10 adults and 2 children stayed in this rental for a week. We have used VRBO many times and this property was not up to the standards we had come to expect.
Here are the specific issues/concerns/problems we experienced at this property:
1. the dishes silverware and glasses in the cupboard were dirty and had to be washed before we could use them
2. The dishwasher ran a full cycle and DID NOT clean the dishes, had to hand wash during our stay.
3. The kitchen lacked basic equipment and supplies for a house that sleeps 12-15 people. Only one sheet pan, only a few large bowls
4. One dish towel in the kitchen
5. The refrigerator had a non-working icemaker. No ice cube trays. We had to buy ice every other day
6. The clothes washer could only be operated by using a paint can opener to engage the control dial. And that was hit or miss
7. The hot tub did not work the 1st 24 hours. The knob controls were missing or would need a pliers (not provided) to turn them
7. The jets did not work
8. Linens - not enough towels provided, some sheets had tears in them, some were the wrong size for the bed and some beds had sand in them when they were supposed to be clean for our arrival
9. The glass shower door in the king bath fell off the track and just missed hitting a 5 year old boy!
10. Health and Safety issues:
a. the back sliding door does not lock. There is no way to secure the house at night or when you are away
b. A rat jumped out of the brick planter box by the back sliding door
c. The outdoor furniture was filthy. We could not use it
d. There are places in the house where two different types of flooring meet with no smooth transition. This creates a tripping hazard
e. The front porch light did not work making it dangerous to come to the house after dark.
f. The air conditioning did not work
We did not get our money's worth for this rental and would NOT recommend this property to anyone.

The property was clean and spacious. The accuracy of the number of rooms was correct but there had been a change in the types of beds in the rooms which required some adjustments in room assignments. Our stay was great. However, we did have one emergency and, because our host was out of cell phone range it took a while before we could contact him. This was a rare occurance and he has made changes so that it shouldn't happen in the future. I would stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay at Dan’s La Jolla property. It easily accommodated our group of 13 people. Very close to beach access, Birch Aquarium and shopping in La Jolla. Comfortable home.

Property was in good shape and maintained. Spacious interior and very accommodating to our large group. BBQed on the first night and took advantage of the nice jacuzzi. Slept like a baby in the comfortable beds! Would definitely stay again and cheers to Dan for our group flexibility and accommodations!

We stayed for a week with our family which included 4 couples, 2 teenagers, 6 children (5 and under). While the house is not new, it was clean and provided the room we needed with such a large group. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen, while on the small side, provided enough space to cook the nights we ate in. The dining room has two tables and plenty of chairs for everyone. The washer and dryer proved to be very useful as we spent much of our time at the beaches. The outdoor shower and sink was a great way to shower off all the little ones and their suits without tracking sand into the house. The weather was the only real drawback to the house for a few of the days. With temps in the mid 80's and humidity around 80% is was pretty hot in the house even with the A/C running. However, the owner was great in providing us with extra fans and we avoided the worst of it by being gone most afternoons anyway. When the humidity and temperatures weren't so high, we were very comfortable. The owner was very accommodating by providing us with whatever we needed. While it is located on a busy road, there is a sense of privacy because of the trees, etc. out front. Getting in and out of the property was really easy and the location made it nice to get wherever we wanted to go easily. There was plenty of parking for our vehicles (2 large SUVs, 1 small SUV, and 1 4door car). Overall we enjoyed our stay!

I took my employees (12 of us in all) to San Diego for a work event. Renting out both of the houses gave us room to spread out and still be together. We were able to set up a quiet house for those who like to go to bed early or sleep in and have all of the festivities at the other house. We saved a lot of money by cooking our own meals in the fully stocked kitchens. The houses were well furnished and comfortable. The property was close to everything and still seemed secluded. The owners were very attentive and accommodating. I would recommend this property to any large groups!

Please be advised the property owner is not easy to work with. He collected a deposit on damages that were existing. He was pushy with our payment and not understanding of our large group. This rental is very dirty and does not meet the description provided. He did not provide adequate supplies such as toilet paper, broom, paper towels etc. The stove had only two working burners and the oven does not work. The BBQ grill was out of propane and disgustingly dirty. The location is very noisy. The only reason we booked here was to accommodate our large group.

Very comfortable and accommodating. Easy to work with. The hot tub is nice. Great place to stay. It used to be a bed and breakfast so there is a lot of room for a big group. It has a big yard for get togethers. I would defiantly stay here again.

We previewed this house a few months ahead of time. It is on a street busy and noisy 24/7. We would have not rented it, but owner assured us that double paned windows on first floor (4 bedrooms are on the first floor; the so-called 5th bedroom - which is one very large space/bunkroom with a bed, a sleeper sofa and a kind of futon - is 1/2 flight up and does not have double paned windows and so is very noisy) and air conditioning our stay would be quiet and comfortable. On arriving, owner showed us the "spa timer" he had installed on the thermostat. This, then, required that one return to the thermostat every 60 minutes in order to keep the AC on. Because several windows, including the sliding glass door in the living room opening to the back yard - the only way to get any outside air into the living room - did not have screens, every time we opened these windows/door for air, we got a huge influx of flies. Also, a possum that we saw in the backyard near the door into the living room resulted in no one being comfortable ever leaving that door open. Owner explained that previous renters' excessive (?) use of AC prompted him to install this timer. Consequently, we were very hot and uncomfortable every night -- couldn't leave windows open due to excessive noise and didn't choose to get up every hour to turn the spa timer. It was choice of not sleeping due to noise vs. not sleeping due to heat vs. not sleeping due to setting alarm for every hour -- so we were tired all the time. Complaints to owner didn't result in problem being solved. Additionally, we had concerns re safety of hot tub due to cover of mechanical equipment (which was in the water) being broken so that it wouldn't stay closed. Not fixed despite telling owner. Ice-maker in frig. did not work - a big inconvenience in the hot weather. We had to request that he bring us adequate pots and pans because they were not in the house on our arrival. No soap, shampoo or conditioner supplied, as they were in other vacation rentals we've had. No dish towels (we went out and bought some) and only one roll of paper towels! Wi-fi went out so many times that a member of our group could not meet a deadline for submitting paper for publication; and cable TV failed right before Olympic women's world championship soccer game - a huge disappointment for us. While the space was sufficient for our group of 11, and the owner is a pleasant guy, we would never have rented if we'd known all of the above.
