About this cottage rental
The Island Girl' is a clean, Sweet Older Cottage which has entertained happy folks for years and has enjoyed some recent renovations and upgrades over the couple years.
The guests who have stayed with her, loved her so much, they say they wish they could stay forever. Pack a bag, throw in some flip flops, a swim suit and leave your worries behind at the Island Girl!
Located JUST ACROSS THE STREET from the BEACH (How Sweet is That?) and only two blocks from the Famous Bert's Market where you can buy anything from ice, to batteries, to organic vegetables, sushi and craft beer, the Island Girl is your key to relaxation. On the first floor, you have plenty of space to relax in the large family room, enjoy a family meal in the dining area or just relax on the screened-in porch while drinking your morning coffee. Upstairs, there are 3 nicely sized bedrooms, a full bath and entry to the sun porch which looks over the palms. Need some time away from the sun? No problem! Our backyard is nicely shaded from all of the beautiful, mature palm trees and there is even an outdoor shower to wash off the sand from your day at the beach.
At Folly Beach, you will discover the beauty and diversity of our quaint beach town! Referred to as the 'Edge of America', the town of Folly is very casual, and the locals are friendly. You will enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets, rich history, good food, expansive beaches, and a town center pier for fishing and sightseeing. Within steps of each other on Center Street, you'll find many restaurants, from upscale to the cool dive. Seafood is always fresh and available everywhere; but no fear, for the non-connoisseur there are taco shops and burger bars. Cool shops abound. And, surfing is big here, so bring your board or sign up for a lesson.
A clean and beautiful beach, there is plenty to do at Folly with wonderful swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sun bathing, people watching, finding seashells, running and biking on the beach, and just doing what you want to do. Need to work off some energy after lounging at the beach? Just two blocks away is a wonderful Public Playground ,Tennis and Basketball Court.
And, if too sunburned, the charming and historic Charleston is just a short drive away. There you can enjoy some of the best restaurants on the East coast, explore the French Market, picnic at Waterfront or take a horse drawn carriage ride through the Holy City. Do some shopping on King Street, stroll through one of our beautiful museums, take a sunset cruise through the harbor or stop by one of the city's hot spots to people watch (including celebrities!)
Looking for a special or romantic weekend getaway and would like to customize your stay? No problem! We would be happy to have a chilled bottle of champagne, fresh flowers, chocolate dipped strawberries or whatever you wish, waiting for you when you arrive. The children and I had a lovely vacation! The house was the perfect size for us and located within walking distance of everything.
3.0 / 5.0
The house was very old and the floors are not even and mini steps that we tripped over several times. The back yard was black dirt where we had to wash off when coming in from the beach and tracked in the house. I sweeped floor every day of course. It may be good for younger folks. But was not for us.

We really enjoyed our stay there at the Island Girl cottage. The location could not be more perfect. It was fully stocked with extra towels and pillows. The initial check in was little unclear at first but the owner reached out to me by phone to ensure we got in ok, which I thought was great!

Island Girl was great. Perfect 2-minute walk to the beach. The only thing that I suggest is adding more beach towels. Listing says plenty, but there were only 2. When traveling via plane, it was nice not to have to bring them, but disappointed when there were not enough. besides that, great little cottage to relax at the beach.

The location is the best part of this home. It is walkable to the beach and restaurants. House was quite dirty. The floors turned our feet and socks brown. The couch had broken down cushions. Mattresses were in bad shape. Many dishes were dirty and the handle to the fridge was broke off. It is such a great location but I would not stay here again unless it had some TLC.

comfortable, well-appointed and equipped, conveniently located, all around great. One caveat: not for those with mobility issues--steep steps to 2nd floor bedrooms and some steps up and down in living area.

The pictures and the real thing were different. The lower porch was totally unusable. Granted, it had rained but with all the trees, that porch never dried enough to use it and the top one was overgrown with the trees and both needed power washed really bad as did the rest of the house. The pictures of the steps in the back were obviously taken just after the steps were built. The cleaning crew missed a lot by not moving furniture. Dressers had broken drawers. The carpets need cleaned or just ripped out. It was furnished with everything we needed inside as far as the kitchen, plenty of sitting room in the living room and table and chairs to play cards or games on. It was a good spot for the beach tho, not too far and an easy walk. It isn't too far from the stores either. It was a safe neighborhood. It just needs a really good cleaning and fresh paint and it'll be a nice house. Also, lots of steps in the house, definitely not for anyone handicapped. The outside shower needs a new deck on it. One of the couples said that their mattress would make them roll to the middle of the bed and the couch needed cleaned or recovered. Toilet seats were all loose and the beach chairs were rusted out and not usable. Washer and dryer worked great.

We had a great family vacation. Kitchen well stocked with various sized cookware. Entryway room was amazing for storing our things and leaving our shoes in so we didn't have sand in the whole house! Beds were comfortable! Hosts were very responsive. We would definitely stay here again!

Highly Recommend!!
Island Girl was literally the perfect place to stay to enjoy our vacation! The house was perfect and the check in process was very simple. We were one block away from the beach and within walking distance of town. This house and location was absolutely perfect! We will be coming back!

We are in love with Island Girl!!
Such a great time!! We stayed for ten days and found nothing wanting. The cottage has everything we needed to enjoy breakfast on the deck and days at the beach. Check in was so simple and the property manager answered all questions within minutes of us asking them. The cottage is clean, roomy and just plain old fun!!
Just a two block walk to the beach and 5 blocks to downtown. Loved the bo-ho style of the area, the great food at all the restaurants, and the cheery dispositions of all the employees. We ate dinner at one of the restaurants every night and enjoyed them all. Couldn't pick a favorite because all the menus were different and each place had it's own vibe.
We have future plans to return to Folly Beach and Island Girl. We definitely recommend that others pick this house for a memorable vacation.

Lovely Place
The Island Girl was perfect for a week away with my husband and 6 year old. Well stocked, very clean, great backyard, superb location. Owner was very responsive. Only downside is, it’s not quiet. It’s a busy street and you can hear everything. The price to pay for fantastic location! Would recommend and would visit again!

Island girl getaway
We had a fantastic girls weekend at the island girl . We loved the relax atmosphere of Folly Beach and the short walk to the beach . It was an easy drive into Charleston for sight seeing and then returned to enjoy a laid back dinner in Folly. The owner was quick to respond with any questions and issues we had. We would definitely visit again

This house was perfect for our long weekend at the beach. The house was very nice, well stocked with cleaning supplies, cookware, and spices. Only 1 block from the beach made for easy access.

Charmingly perfect
Island Girl is a great little house with loads of character. Easy access to the beach as well as shops and restaurants. 3 bedrooms, king, queen and twin beds. Ore windows then I could count allowing for plenty of light. Beds are reasonably comfortable, towels in every room.
Kitchen has all the amenities from blue ray player to a Nintendo Wii
Kitchen is stocked with all the essentials and any utensils you may need, it even has a Kureg.
The upstairs balcony was my favorite, The downstairs screened in patio needs a few repairs.
I recommend bringing some air freshener as the upstairs bathroom and the twin bed bedroom closet smells of urine but thankfully doesn’t travel through the whole house. Lots of little touches that show the owners really care about your vacation experience. Hopefully we’ll be able to return soon. Would recommend to anyone

We would consider staying here again for sure. The owners made it very nice for guests.

AMAZING!!!
My family and I had the perfect trip, every thing about The Island Girl was amazing. Every detail was thought of from beach towels to a fully stocked kitchen, we were not left without a thing. For us the location might have been the best part, a 2 minute walk from the beach(1 block) and a short drive from restaurants and shops. The island girl is the perfect fit for a family vacation, we would definitely stay again!

Cockroaches!
Pros: close to the beach, spacious for four guests, has everything you need
Cons: dirty, bathroom smells like urine, the house is infested with cockroaches. We saw 50 or more roaches during our stay. We had to squish bugs everyday, and they were in the entire house. The kitchen has several roaches in the cupboards and under the microwave and sink. There is roach feces on the countertops. They sent someone out to spray on the first day of our stay, but it didn't help at all. They did nothing further other than offering a 30% refund. We were all disgusted and tried to find somewhere else to stay, but we couldn't find anything so short notice on Folly. We will not be returning.

Family wedding
We were so excited to stay at Island Girl during our son's wedding week.
The pros:
-the kitchen was well stocked
-the house was very close (1 block) to the beach
-close proximity to Bert’s Market and the downtown area
-charming bedrooms with comfy beds
-reasonable price
The cons:
-the downstairs was adequate at best (sloped floors, choppy floor plan due to the home being old and added on to, and the stairs as others mentioned, were a little scary etc.).
-upstairs bathroom smelled like cat urine
-screened in porch unusable due to dirt and grime
-opened the outside shed to take out bikes and saw multiple cockroaches (although they may have been palmetto bugs which I know they have in the south)
We had other family members who were there for the wedding also renting homes at Folly. All of the other homes we visited were really nice, clean, and had been updated with newer furnishings. I was happy that at least our out of town guests were staying at better places than us and we did spend quite a bit of time at their places. Due to some of the above cons, we probably would not rent Island Girl in the future.

Cute little house, perfect location!
Even with our toddler it was just over a 5 minute walk to the beach. The house was cute, and nicely kept. We love folly beach, and it's closeness to Charleston!

The house was a short walk to the beach. Had everything we needed and would definetly recommend this home for rental.

LOVED FOLLY BEACH
We (Family of 6) assisted to a wedding .
Some of our relatives also rented houses nearby. Some of them, at the beach itself.
So, we had the chance to compare benefits.
Our Island Girl made it great! It has everything we needed. The location was perfect (Close to the beach, to restaurants and markets, and to the main road) and it is well equiped. In general, we could enjoy our stay quite much. We would love to come back and will recommend the property to our friends.
Apart from the previous, if something has to be mentioned for improving the renting experience:
Perhaps the house could be delivered a little cleaner. The other visited houses were free of dust and bugs.
My wife noticed it when checked in but we were too busy and did not claim for it.
Anyway, before checking out we cleaned it (it is a family custom).
And it took us a couple of additional hours than usual to leave it (clean) in a way that made us feel confortable.
A balance: Very good experience!

Great location adorable old Folly feel
Island Girl is just around the corner from the beach. The public beach access is quiet and clean and the far enough from the pier and hotel to be uncrowded. We used the bikes that were provided to go to the shops and Lost Dog. We had little ones so walking to the shops was too far. We did walk to Berts which is two and a half blocks away. We loved that the bedrooms were upstairs and living area was downstairs. Coffee on the screened porch in the mornings and sun deck was nice. Our family has stayed on Folly in the large ocean front homes and we were worried that downsizing would be painful. However the price and easy beach access made up for it. This is an old school beach house and it is adorable. It is one of the reasons Folly is charming.

Perfect for family. Wonderful week with our toddler and mothers at Folly Beach!
We spent an amazing week with my mother, mother in law and 2 year old at the Island Girl. Everything was perfect for our diverse group. Everyone had their own cute, comfortable and clean room. We did a equal mix of eating out, ordering in (don't miss Taco Boy) and cooking. We had a great table to eat together at, and the Island Girl had everything we needed!
We would spend the morning going into Charleston, visiting nearby gardens, walking up to the adorable pirate ship park one block away or kayaking. Then we would all have an afternoon nap (toddler needed one but we all followed her lead) and then we would take the short walk to the beach for a few hours of fun.
It was nice to know we could come back to the comfort of the Island Girl. We were able to connect to our netflix account through the Wii for a movie night, and the wifi was blazing fast (thank you!!).
Usually we are ready to go home at the end of our vacations but everyone said they could have stayed a few more days. It was all the comforts of home and none of the stresses. This is our third time staying on Folly and by far the absolute best. I will always look to book Island Girl in the future.

Girls Getaway
Had a lovely stay at "Island Girl". Everything we needed was provided. The weather was gorgeous. Could not have asked for a better vacation.

Very Cute
The beach house was great! Each bedroom was decorated very nicely and the beach is a minute walk across the street and over the boardwalk. The weather was cool while we were there (March), but Folly was a still great location to see downtown Charleston and visit a plantation. Bert's Market is right down the street and is a good local place to buy groceries. Also, being from LA, we were shocked at how little traffic there was, which was a welcome surprise :D

Clean, comfortable & convenient!
There were 3 of us sharing the house for a long weekend and it was perfect. The pictures represented the house fairly and despite being only 3 weeks after Hurricane Joaquin, it was in very good shape. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Everything worked as expected. The kitchen was small, but we weren't cooking, so no complaints. The best thing was the notebook with the "Best of Folly" giving the owners' suggestions for the best places to go. We like the Lost Dog Café for breakfast and enjoyed sitting outside at Rita's listening to live music with a drink (or two) And of course, Bert's Market is great, although you may miss some of their specials if you go later in the day. The house is a short block from the beach and about 4 long blocks from "downtown" Folly, where you find most of the restaurants, bars and shops. The owners were very accommodating, and promptly answered any questions we had. I would be very happy to return to Folly and the Island Girl!

Great cottage, great location
I came here for a girls weekend and we had a great stay! The cottage was cute and clean, just like in the pictures. The beach was less than a 5 minute walk, and everything we needed was provided- down to the beach towels, boogie boards, and beach chairs. The owner happily came out and fixed a problem we had with the wifi. There were plenty of restaurants close by in Folly Beach, and we also drove about 25 minutes to explore downtown Charleston. It was a great trip- would stay here again!

My family and I, including two pre-schoolers, had one of our most relaxing vacations at Folly while staying at the Island Girl. This is a precious little house that had everything we needed during our time there. It was immaculately clean with high quality linens and towels. Being so close to the beach was a definite plus, especially when carrying all the things we needed for two active beach-loving children. The house comes equipped with beach chairs and towels, floats, two adult bikes and even a fold up beach buggy. We loaded everything on that and, in just a few minutes' walk, we were sinking our toes into the sandy surf! Upon returning to the house, we were able to wash off the beach sand under the outdoor shower in the privacy of the lush and tropical backyard. The new deck off the second story was nice to use at night for relaxing after a day at the beach and counting stars.
Desiree was a joy to work with and quickly responded to my initial inquiry and questions. Everything was perfect in this quaint little cottage. There were many unique touches throughout the house. Our favorite was the stained glass window leading up the staircase! The neighborhood was quiet and convenient to everything on the Island. We come to Folly two or three times a year and have stayed in many island homes. The Island Girl is one we definitely recommend and will be returning! Thank you, Desiree, for sharing your charming cottage with us and for being truly concerned about our welfare and making sure our stay was as nice as possible! We will be back!

We wanted a small, unfussy cottage for a short vacation to Folly Beach. With two teen-aged girls, this 3 bedroom house worked perfectly, giving everyone a little bit of privacy and space. The location could not have been better - a VERY short walk around the corner to the beach and just a few blocks from the main commercial strip. The house was clean, tidy and had all the necessities we needed for our stay. The owner, Desiree, was prompt and helpful with our reservation. We rented bikes one day and they were delivered to our door and picked up exactly when we requested, which was very nice. The beach was uncrowded and clean. We were able to collect shells, boogie board and walk to the fishing pier. Overall, a lovely time and a perfect house for a small group.

Great location, one week from beach, few blocks to downtown. House very comfortable. Weather was not the best and we were disappointed that we couldn't use the screened in porch when it rained, there was no ceiling on deck above. Close to downtown for shopping and dinner, owners great to deal with, very nice vacation, would definitely return. Also need outside light by grill to cook out after dark
4.0 / 5.0
The cottage was clean, cute, comfortable and the owner was very helpful in finalizing our plans. The only issue we had was the uneven flooring. You had to be very careful when you walked down the stairs and then into the dining room because the flooring camouflaged the extra step before you get to the table. There should be something on the floor at the top of that step and on the floor near the table to catch your eye and prevent someone from tripping or falling.
5.0 / 5.0
Not only is the house extremely close to the beach, but the owners thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and as uncomplicated as possible. There were boogie boards, coolers, a cart to haul your stuff to the beach (which we used every day), a Wii, a grill with propane, and recommendations on everything there is to do in Folly Beach. We also really enjoyed hanging out on the back screened-in porch. We had an amazing time and will definitely be considering another stay at the Island Girl in the future.

I took my 9 yr. old and twin 5 yr. old daughters away to Folly Beach for the week and the Island Girl was the perfect beach house for us. Incredibly well appointed, we went from brewing iced tea to cooking out and then to the beach, without having to pack any of our own stuff. The games and DVDs were especially useful at night and for those days where the kids needed a break from the sun. Walking distance Bert's Market and the beach meant we could leave our car parked, a truly memorable break, the girls and I will be back again soon for sure!

Really enjoyed the house. One house away from beach access. Beach was great. Water 82 degrees. House was perfectly comfortable. Had everything we needed to go to the beach. Umbrella was perfectly unbendable and able to withstand the wind. My kids are 5 yr old twin boys and they had a great time. Only thing the house didn't have was movies for kids. And I'm not saying this as a fault but as a heads up if you need to hypnotize the kids in order to make dinner. We had them from the car so we were fine.

We had a wonderful stay at your home!! It was very nice and comfortable. This was our first family vacation and it was an excellent choice! The home was in a perfect place.. It gave us privacy and was a short walk away from the beach and everywhere we wanted to go in Folly. Thanks so much for allowing us to share such wonderful memories!! We will be planning our next stay very soon :-)
