About this cottage rental
Sweet adobe casita along the high road to Taos is close to Santa Fe, Tesuque, the opera and is convenient to the beauty and charms of Northern New Mexico. The perfect haven for when you want to explore Georgia O’Keefe country, the ancient pueblos, historic Spanish villages, Taos, Los Alamos, Jemez, Puye Cliffs and Bandelier National Monument. Great location for nature lovers as well, as we are within easy distance of hiking, biking, skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, rock climbing, river rafting, ballooning, fishing, bird watching and more! In fact, you can hike or bike right out of the front door.
Located approximately 17 miles north of Santa Fe plaza near the Nambé Church, this guest house to a private residence has its own entrance, a walled patio and covered portal. From the outdoor areas, enjoy dramatic sunset views over a nearby mesa and the Jemez Mountains beyond and later study the stunning nighttime skies. Additional outdoor areas include a picnic area under an old apricot tree and a seating area along the Acequia del Caño. There are two off-street parking spaces.
The casita has vigas and saltillo tile floors throughout and is decorated in Santa Fe country style with antiques, original art, tribal rugs, and quilts. The main living area has a seating nook with two bancos, a dining area, wood burning kiva fireplace and full kitchen. There is a separate bedroom, bath with tub and shower and a laundry area. The bedroom has a queen sized “Doctor’s Choice” bed and the two bancos can be comfortably converted to twin beds to accommodate up to 3 people. 100% cotton linens and fluffy towels are provided. The kitchen is stocked for basic cooking and has a microwave, coffee maker, electric tea pot, blender and attractive china and serving ware for six.
We provide complimentary tea and coffee. During the season, we will be happy to share the bounty from our no-chemical kitchen garden with you.
This is a comfortable and delightful retreat for the daytime explorer. It is also a perfect writer’s retreat or getaway for those special romantic occasions – honeymoons, anniversaries or birthdays. Light concierge services are available – let us help you plan the perfect vacation, including those special touches that will make it so memorable!
Please note: The Casita has a DVD player but not television. Also, this is a smoke free facility. Casita is generally well stocked but please feel free to ask if there is something special you need.

Beautiful and peaceful. Everything I needed.

We could not have been more pleased. The Casita style was beautifully done and very well equipped. I would have loved warmer weather to enjoy the sunny and plant filled patio. But we did have a beautiful fire in the fireplace! Our host was most welcoming and very helpful for touring. We were happy to leave the city (20 minutes) to enjoy our homey relaxed location. A little hard to find...make sure to study pre visit papers. I hope we can return on another visit.

Everything was wonderful and I am looking forward to staying here sometime in the future!

My husband and I had the best vacation of our lives in Julia’s Casita. The casita is well appointed and just far enough away from the city to feel away and also close enough to visit important sites and get supplies. Julia was exceedingly generous as a host.

This clean and spacious casita provided everything we needed for a home base during our stay in Santa Fe. We enjoyed dinner by the fire every night and slept soundly in the quiet and private setting. Every window either looks out on nature or a private, enclosed patio and it felt very secluded. The casita is thoughtfully appointed and we were so comfortable our only regret was not getting to spend more time there!

My husband and I enjoyed this property so much! It was clean, spacious, well-appointed, so comfortable, quiet. The private courtyard is just precious! Only minutes from Santa Fe restaurants, museums, etc. Julia is a fantastic host. Very communicative and accommodating. We look forward to staying here again!

Julia is a welcoming and thoughtful host, and her casita in Nambe is a peaceful and restorative place to stay. Very comfortable and quiet. I hope to return.

We spent around two months staying at Julia’s Casita during our summer visit to the lab. The Casita was spacious and well-stocked. It has a big kitchen with everything we needed, which was definitely helpful since we cooked pretty often. The location was nice, close to the lab, and it’s also close to Santa Fe, which has more selection of grocery stores. Julia always responded quickly, and she really cared about our stay and made sure everything was good. We had been enjoyed the interaction with her and her puppy dog, and we would highly recommend the place.

I just spent a month at Julia's Nambe Country Retreat and recommend it in the highest possible terms both as a base for someone working in the area (I was doing work in multiple Pueblos of northern New Mexico) and for a small-family vacation (my wife and daughter joined me for a week over Thanksgiving). The casita offers peace and quiet and all the comforts one could wish for. Julia, who lives in the main house right next door, is a superb, friendly and attentive yet non-intrusive hostess. The views from the casita, the patio and the grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed walks around the immediate area and easy access to Santa Fe, Taos (via the breathtakingly scenic High Road), Los Alamos and the Jemez Mountains.
Among places we came to enjoy within a 10-minute drive are the Poeh Cultural Center, three good food options (the Sopaipilla Factory, El Parasol, and especially the hot lunch items in the deli at the Pojoaque Supermarket), the Pojoaque Pueblo Library (which has a phenomenal DVD collection) and -- best of all -- the Pojoaque Pueblo Wellness Center (excellent cardio and weight rooms, gym, swimming pool, racquetball courts and more). We were really happy to have such a well-equipped, low-cost and welcoming workout place so close, especially given our fondness for New Mexican food.
If you are looking for top-notch New Mexican food, we would recommend: Rancho de Chimayo (in Chimayo, less than 15 minutes away); El Paragua (Espanola); Tomasita's, the Pantry and La Choza (Santa Fe); and El Charritos and Tia Betty Blue's (Albuquerque).

We stayed for 9 weeks during the summer and found the casita to be comfortable, nicely furnished and stocked, and very peaceful. Julia was a great host who was not intrusive but was always friendly, stopping by to check on us or assuring us she would look out for the casita when we went away for the weekend. We enjoyed the walled-in patio with beautiful potted plants and great views of the sunset, and having a full-size kitchen and laundry in a small place like this was a huge plus. This is a great place either for a short visit or a prolonged stay. PS: to clarify on one of the few negative comments left by a previous reviewer, there is a television set, but there is no cable or TV service. We were easily able to hook up a device to stream content to the television set. Julia was kind enough to offer to buy such device for us if we did not bring our own.
