When we arrived at the property we were so excited a couple days away from life. We couldn't help but notice all the post it notes ALL over stating we can't do this and we can't do that. Or this is broken and that was broken don't use. With Limited shower time. Was little annoying but we obliged. The first night we decided to get into the hot tub couldn't stay in for longer then 15min because there was so much bleach in it we could hardly breath. We didn't let that ruin the trip. They state no pets but the place is covered in dog hair thank god no one is allergic. We stayed the rest of the weekend without any issues. It was very nice of the owner to let us know that the cleaning people weren't coming in at check out and we could stay longer. We didn't we had to get home. The owner sends me a message before they even get to the house asking me if we broke things ( like wine glass) fishing to charge me for something... We didn't we brought all of our own things (paper products so we didn't have to wash anything).
But wait the owners get to the house 3 days later and say they are charging me for the hot tub to be drained, cleaned and refilled because it was so dirty. That we didn't take a shower before we got in. How do you know? Not one of us had sunscreen on and we did rinse off before got in. Definitely had to shower when we got out because of all the bleach. Still waiting for the pictures of this so called dirty hot tub.
How can this be there was so much bleach in there. There isn't a sign or a post anywhere that states you would charge if we used the hot tub. Maybe you should lock that up also and STATE its broken or add another sticky note.
Stating that things are broken.. garage door, which we know works..washer/dryer you just dont want to pay the PG&E bill (you definitely make sure everyone can see the bill since its posted and laminated for everyone to see..) I would not recommend renting from these people as there are other nicer homes and honest hosts around. Its way to stressful to rent this one..We took care of your home and did everything you asked for, and all you could do was look for ways to charge me more money.

Please see the messages below between us and the owners - DON"T RENT FROM THEM - There are so many places to rent and much better quality and experiences - DB is awesome - this property is not.
David and Mary (Penny) sent a message
"Thank you for your concern about someone trying to get into our home while you stayed there. I checked with our "lower" neighbor. It was a guest at his house that got confused. A first-timer at DB.
Replacing private property should not qualify for a bad review. VRBO charged your credit card- not us. Dave"
NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY!!
Our response-
"VRBO did charge my account…as your representative, please don’t try to make it sound like they somehow - through mental telepathy figured that the charge for a few stained towels was $45. You obviously reported it and expected them to charge me. I’m stating that it was a dishonest practice for you to do so without letting me know first. Secondly, the next time you do something like this to one of your “guests”, I suggest you take pictures to back up your claims. I don’t know you. You have a nice home and on the outside seem like you’re probably honest and nice people. However, I don’t know you, therefore I don’t trust you. Judging by the way you handled this, I probably shouldn’t trust you. Had it been my home and I was charging high rental costs and clearly making great retirement revenue, I would’ve at minimum had the manners to show evidence to someone if there was a problem. I would have also let them know that I was seeking reimbursement through the rental company. I will write a bad review and let prospective clients know that you’re home albeit nice is very difficult to stay in. Most of your amenities are “locked out” because of potential problems. We all know your garage door works perfectly fine, you just don’t want someone leaving it open. We also both know that your washer and dryer work just fine, (with the exception of getting stains out of towels) you’re just to cheap to pay the utility bills. Evidenced by the PG&E bill left in your book, an example of the high electrical cost of Dillon Beach. You’re little notes telling us that things are broken and don’t work is just because you don’t want to spend the money for repairing them or the usage cost.
I will write a bad review and we will not stay in your property again. “FUTURE RENTERS BEWARE. BREAK-INS AND ROBBERIES ARE PREVALENT AT THIS HOME”.
Again, good luck

Nice location. Less than modern infrastructure
We had a great time. Because of issues not really caused by the owners the local infrastructure (water and sewer) were dated and limited. As far as location, fantastic access to beach. House was a really fun house with jacuzzi and pool table. We would recommend this house but would caution renters about the limited water and sewer systems.

Perfect Getaway
We rented this home for Mother’s Day weekend. It fit us all perfectly and we were very comfortable. The kitchen was great to cook in after our day of clamming. We all were able to work together to make a wonderful homemade meal. We played pool and used the hot tub. It was lovely. There is only parking for one car.

A perfect beach get-away!
This property has it all and just steps to the beach and local general store. From the hot-tub with an ocean view, to the pool table lounge area, the property exceeded my expectations. The beds and bedding are very comfortable, and one of the beds has an amazing ocean view! The kitchen and dinning area are good sized to accommodate meal prep for a family, with dishes, cookware and a full sized fridge- even an outdoor BBQ. The home is super clean and has a nice open flow. The owners are very responsive, and made us feel like we were staying at a friend or family members beach home, rather than a rental. We look forward to staying again!

Great house and wonderful location
We enjoyed our stay very much. Easy walk to the beach and enjoyed the game room. Only issues were kitchen sink not draining and poor quality linens and towels.

Presidents Windy Weekend
The address on Ocean View was very telling. Just steps from the beautiful Dillon Beach. The house was well featured and my granddaughter and I had some giggling games of pool. We enjoyed the hot tub and BBQ. The warnings of water shortages led to a shower less weekend, but hey, we're at the beach. If it's yellow, let it mellow....Our only concern was a very finicky sink, that even though we were careful to not let put any food or grease down the drain was still a slow drain. Can we spend a weekend anywhere without an accident. No. One wine glass bit the dust. It was a wonderful stay watching the massive kites and kite surfers and enjoying the great feeling of a California beach getaway.

Tense environment
Dillon Beach is a cute, small, pretty town. Like many local communities it seems to be suffering from septic and drought issues. The home is in an ideal location with great views. Parking, as the listing implies, is a challenge. We had my toddler grandson with us and the hosts graciously provided gates throughout the house which we appreciated. The vibe in the home itself was tense as there were signs posted throughout the home on what not to do. There was a constant feel amongst my family on whether we were behaving properly so that the hosts would not keep our deposit. Unlike the photos, even the dining table and living room table were covered in thick solid green vinyl blankets. I imagine they’ve had awful experiences with previous guests that have driven them to expect awful behavior from all future guests. That is unfortunate. All the signs took comfort out of the stay. They mistakenly kept some of our deposit for what likely turned out to be vandalism on the side gate. They graciously returned a check to me later. I would return to Dillon Beach in a heartbeat, but not to this rental.

Good not Great
This was a girls getaway weekend with 6 women;
Overall our stay at the Oyster Shell House was good. However, as with everything there are pros and cons.
PROS-
Great location
Great views
The kitchen is well stocked
The owners are very responsive
CONS-
The house has a hot tub but you are not allowed to turn the heat over 100*, that is warm, not hot, so we didn't even use it.
We were told we couldn't use the fireplace due to "fires being on hold" we saw several homes using their fireplaces.
The "futon" in the bedroom is actually a futon pad on the floor, so we had to double up as no one wanted to sleep on the floor.
One of the full bathrooms is actually in the garage, they call it the Gameroom but it is the garage.
These were all things that we would like to have known before we rented so that we could make a more informed decision to rent and avoid being disappointed when we arrived.

A great getaway place for a small family or group, walking distance to the beach. I have no complaints and definitely will use again, time and availability permitting.

Disappointed.
We struggled quite a bit with parking our larger SUV. So parking is definitely an issue here. Also many times throughout the day, there was a sewer smell in the house. We couldn’t tell if it was actually coming from the house or the outside neighborhood. Linens were very scarce and not a good quality. Lots and lots of do not do rules posted all over the house which was a bit stressful. It’s almost as if the owners maybe shouldn’t use this as a rental because it seems like it overwhelms them as well. We received several text messages and emails just reminding us of all these rules. Overall the view from the backyard was the best part of the stay. We will NOT be staying here again however. And NOT a good place for kids. And also to note, is they had some kind of custom-made bedspread in this rental house that they accused us of leaving two stains on. They automatically charged are credit card a couple of hundred dollars. And we never received pictures or an opportunity to explain it or anything. So we are obviously contesting that charge. We use Vrbo many times around the world and our ranking as renters is five stars. I hope the owners take this input from us and implement some changes so there are better experiences for future renters.

Would Not Recommend
When we pulled up we were so excited but once we entered our opinion changed. The cleanliness of the house was very poor, they do not allow pets but the floors were full of dog hair and dirt. We had to look for everything as nothing was easily accessible and the bathrooms were poorly stocked. I tried to reach out privately to the owners as I sent pictures of the floors and my concerns but their response did not seem like they cared and offered no apologies only responses to my concerns that really didn't make a difference. I have never written a bad review but felt that their lack of concern for the price you pay to rent this home was less then stellar.

Great Stay!!
Communication was great, the house was clean, 50 yards from the ocean, loved the new kitchen, and we used the outdoor showers every time we came back from the beach.
We will definitely be staying here again.

Wonderful Dillon Beach getaway
Fantastic location in the heart of the small town of Dillon Beach - perfect setup for our family with two young boys, where we could walk right on down to the beach. Home was clean and spacious. It is on a delicate septic system so you have to be conscientious, but we didn't find this to be an issue. We had a great stay.

Overall nice not great
The property was decent, loved the pool table.
Bring your own spices and extra toilet paper. You have to take your trash with you... that was annoying, but we were aware of it.

Sweet little family home
This is a lovely place with some views of the ocean, tucked among several other houses on a small cozy street. It's a nice place to relax either in sunny weather or fog and rain. We really enjoyed introducing our kids to the game of pool, and the hot tub was really a treat. Everyone in our group was happy to be mindful of water use and avoid stressing the septic system, and we found most of what we needed to cook the meals we planned. We brought our own towels for using the hot tub which was helpful, we only wished there had been a place to hang them to dry. There are measures in place to take care to keep the sand out of the house, we still did find it tricky to get into the house from the hot tub without tracking in dirt from the back yard. We ended up vacuuming the entire house, washing dishes and drying them, and walking the trash to the beach parking lot which resulted in a stink eye from the attendant at the pay station, so the cleaning requirements on top of paying a cleaning fee does feel a little unbalanced. The one thing we yearned for was a welcome binder, that provided information about the area, and gave us clear instructions on house rules. We found what we needed eventually, but there was a fair amount of poking around before we were able to find things like how to use the various showers, and where to find parking for a second vehicle, and the task list upon departure. I would definitely recommend this place, and would have been completely content if I had understood everything in the beginning from a welcome packet of some sort. Dillon beach is a great spot for true respite!

Great location but disappointed with the house. Yet another rental that asks you to take your garbage with you. The house has an apparently sensitive septic system, so you are asked not to flush often and even put toilet paper in the trash rather than the bowl. Bring some extra toilet paper with you as they didn’t provide much for a family for an entire weekend. There was an occasional odd odor in the kitchen that I believe might be from the septic system. I never figured it out. There is a nice back yard, but not a chair or table to be able to enjoy it. The washer and dryer is marked out of order, and there is no place to hang beach towels (bring your own) outside.

Vacation disappointment
Lots of Hidden information until you arrive
There is something wrong with the septic system because they have signs everywhere If it’s yellow let it mellow if it’s brown flush it down.! Had I known this before paying $$$$ a night I would of never chose this house . The Hot Tub says don’t turn up the heat so you’re basically sitting in warm water . We received one towel each for three nights ! There is a washer and dryer that you are not allowed to use there is no trash service so you are expected to haul your trash away in the car with you with dirty toilet paper in the trash! The parking spot is for a little tiny car and I drive a suburban! They ask you to throw your trash away at the beach which is a $10 fee to go into the beach so basically I feel like you’re paying for their trash service! There was other rentals with garbage is that they ask you to throw away on Cliff Street to be creative I think that’s wrong! Their video (library) was only six DVDs and the player did not work and the remotes did not work the batteries were rotted. There is only one bathroom downstairs that is a toilet you have to leave the house to go outside into a garage where there is another shower , but they never shower inside they recommend you shower outside with your family and your children all around ! I got this house as a gift for my parents and I was hugely disappointed I would’ve never rented this house had I known all these things were gonna be wrong with it everything in the kitchen was not clean and it had dried food on some of the plates so we had to wash everything before we used it .

Superb Location
We had no cellphone coverage therefore it was hard to contact our landlord. We were notified by the owner that beach towels were not going to be provided so I was not sure if they meant bath towels as well because there was none to be found. The last minute change in the amenities like working fireplace, working washer dryer, and in door shower have taken away from our experience.

Fantastic Beach Location
This property is in a fantastic location! The owner was so easy to work with and quick to respond to any questions. We had plenty to do at the house with the Pool Table in the garage game room area which was so cool, then there was the huge table to gather, eat or play games while still feeling together with those in the living area on the large COMFY sofa or cooking in the kitchen. There are a couple minor details we found out after check in regarding trash and septic but nothing that would make me feel i would not want to return!! Be ready to enjoy the amazing beach and the views form some of the rooms!!!! SUNSETS WOW Thanks Penny & Dave

Our family had a wonderful reunion at this house. With the beach only a few blocks away, we were able to easily access the beach and ocean. The house was roomy and comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and we especially enjoyed the reading nook with spectacular views. Penny was accommodating, helpful and easily accessible. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Great location but not as listed
Oyster shell house is a roomy multi level house hosted by Dave and Penny who reached out after I made the reservation to have me complete the contract and let me know only pod families were able to stay together, due to Corona19. I requested information on fishing charters and Dave kindly gave me a contact.
In preparation a few days before leaving I reviewed the contract and noticed a new review that mentioned not flushing toilet paper. I reached out again and was told no toilet paper is septic safe and I could place used TP in the trash and by the way they had stopped trash service so it's my responsibility to find a place to dump our trash.
The day we are heading out I get word from Penny the hot tub circulation pump went out last week and a repair man would be out on day two of our stay. The hot tub was a top reason why I picked this rental so this information was upsetting. When I mentioned this to Penny she asked if I would like to reschedule however we already off work and on our way. The response to this was, check in is not until 3pm. We knew this.
I was never told the outcome of the spa repair, we had to reach out over our stay to ask if the tub was repaired. At one point Penny said she was at a spa store and to call her! It was 5pm on our last night and we were worn out from the he back and forth confusing communication.
There was a smell that came from the septic system our entire stay. If someone flushed (even#1) or was in the shower the unpleasant smell filled the downstairs.
With our contract it was clearly stated on the last day check out was at 11am and if we were going to hang around town longer we would have to move our car from the house. The morning we left we received a message at 9am saying to stay as long as we like that day because the cleaners weren't coming until the next day. Would have been nice if Penny would have mentioned that at check in for planning purposes.
This was a very disappointing and expensive rental and did not add to our 50th birthday celebration getaway.

Excellent location and size
We had a great stay. House isn’t newly remodeled or anything but it’s a great house. Has some quirks - ie could use some touch up paint here and there, shower handle is finicky, nothing major. Overall it’s clean and well kept with a cool nautical theme and some nice old antiques. Beautiful views from upstairs and you can’t beat the location - just half block to beach trail. It’s a great spot to stay!
