Our cottage, nestled on the west brow of Lookout Mountain between the historic town of Mentone and Desoto State Park, has a wrap-a-round porch with rockers to enjoy the breathtaking view.
Even though our cottage is equipped with satellite TV which means you won't miss your favorite ball game in the fall, most of you will leave it off to enjoy your restful surroundings. The large porch is the perfect place to enjoy the cool shade of the trees in the summer and colorful fall. The winter months reveal the beauty of the valley below and the ridges in the distance.
Family, friends, or just the two of you can enjoy the rustic pine paneled 'gathering room' where you can read books, play cards or board games, watch TV, or cook up something is the fully equipped kitchen. On a chilly day enjoy a fire in the gas log stove on the stone hearth. There is a small stone patio with a charcoal grill for your cookouts.
The two bedrooms each have a queen sized bed with linens and warm comforts. Each room has storage space in chest of drawers and good closet space. There's a cot in one bedroom. The sofa opens to sleep two if needed. The two bathrooms are equipped with towels, tissue, and hand soap.
The cottage is located 4.6 miles from downtown Mentone and 2 miles from Desoto State Park. Some of the many activities available for you include incredible water falls, hiking, horseback riding at the Dude Ranch and golf at Lil Mole Run. Go to Desoto State park or the Canyon Center for more information on events provided.
If you don't want to cook at the cottage, try some of the wonderful restaurants in Mentone, The Wildflower Cafe, Elevation, Mentone Market and our two new food trucks one at the Mentone Inn and one at Moon Lake Trading Company.
And don't miss the Saturday Farmers Market next to the Mentone Inn, open year round.

The home had everything we needed. It was very clean and location was perfect. The brow view was absolutely beautiful from the back porch. We didn’t cook during our stay because we wanted to try the local restaurants and overall we were very pleased. There is so much to do in the area but relaxing at the house was the favorite part of our getaway. Also, we seen lots of beautiful deer and the property was shaded and quiet. Would stay here again for sure.

This cabin was very clean! We loved the porch and enjoyed the beautiful view. The beds were comfortable and kitchen was well stocked. Enjoyed our visit and would rent this cabin again.

The house was just as described. Getting the key was super easy. Very quiet and comfortable. We came down for the Alabama June Jamboree and the house was just perfect. We will come again! Thank you so much!

My niece and I stayed at this beautiful property for 3 nights, and we loved it! It was so clean, and all the furnishings are comfortable in this cozy cottage. Our favorite spot was on the deck of course. I cannot imagine what the view must be in the fall! The spot is quiet, and we both commented on how well we slept every night. The location is convenient to everything we wanted to see but honestly mostly we just relaxed. Loved it and cannot wait to go again!

We loved this cabin. The back deck overlooks a beautiful valley and we spent every minute out there. It’s like living in a tree house - with all the amenities. The place is very well cared for and spotless. We highly recommend and hope to return!

We really enjoyed the view from the western deck. Good location to visit Desoto Caverns State Park and the town of Mentone. It's not too far from Cloudland Park in Georgia. It was too cold to sit outside on Saturday. The cabin was easy to find.

The rental was spotless. The beds were comfortable. The showerheads were high, which was nice for a tall person like myself. The wraparound porch was nice and it had many rocking chairs to sit and admire the view. We went to some waterfalls in the area, and it was also close to the Boy Scout camp, Camp Comer, where my son was working for the Summer, so we could visit him when we wanted. We also took a day trip to Rome, Georgia. It was a good break from the 100+ temperatures from where we're from! Check in was easy, and communication with the rental agency was great. We would stay here again.

This was a perfect cottage for us to celebrate my 67th birthday! Close to De Soto falls and De Soto State Park. It was very clean and very comfortable and the view was breathtaking! The rockers on the porch is where we spent a couple of afternoons. Communication with manager was spot on!

This property was better than I expected. I was up on some business and selected this property because it was in the brow and rather isolated. The entire house was spacious, clean, well organized, and just right for my needs. The houses nearest were not too close, although one did have an outdoor light that kept going on and off. The industrial site lights down in the valley did distract a little while sitting on the back porch at night, but it probably not any issue when the abundant trees are full of leaves. The kitchen-family room area was HUGE and completely open.

The cabin was just what we needed for our quiet Valentine's getaway. We loved the beautiful view from the back deck and the sounds of nature and the railway in the background. It was a little brisk in the morning, but we warmed right up in front of the gas log stove. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking, but we also ventured into Mentone and Fort Payne for the local restaurants. Make sure you make reservations or accommodate for extra time, as some of those places were quite busy for dinner. We will most definitely come back to this place soon.

We really enjoyed our Thanksgiving stay at “Chestnut Oaks.” Check in and out was a breeze! Our 3 kids really enjoyed having all the room outdoors to explore. The views from the porch were so beautiful! We also enjoyed watching the trains come and go from the porch. The beds were very comfy. Large kitchen with everything needed to cook a large meal. Our only suggestion would be to update the living room furniture. Couch was comfy but definitely worn, and the only other seating were small chairs that were not very comfortable. With a few recliners, the room would be perfect!
The location of the cottage was perfect! Very close drive to Desoto Falls and downtown Mentone. Only 20 minutes or so from Little River Canyon. Thanks again for a great stay!

My friend and I were very pleased with this cabin. It was very clean, neat, loved the furnishings and decorations, great location, all amenities needed and then some, really nice wraparound porch with plenty of seating and a lovely, lovely view. We enjoyed our stay at this cabin very much. We would recommend to anyone.

Would recommend this to anyone, nice clean cabin with everything thing you need as well as info you need for the surrounding area. Lots of info on things to do as well as local eats. The view off backpack was awesome. Will definitely rent this again.
