About this house rental
During the summer months of June - September, we rent weekly from Saturday to Saturday. For the off- season, we rent a minimum of three nights to minimize the wear and tear on our home.
NOTE: We list only on VRBO/HomeAway.
'A Fluke of Nature' is one of the very few beach homes in our community from where you see AND hear the waves crash onto the surf -- all from our veranda.
This is a true oceanfront experience and we're reminded how spectacular it is each time we visit! We named this classic East Coast townhouse 'A Fluke of Nature' because of the unexpected whales swimming in front of our home on our very first weekend here. From our veranda, we also see dolphins swimming most mornings.
Our relaxing home has an open-concept living room, fully-equipped and well-appointed kitchen, spacious outdoor shower, and new beds for naps in the middle of the day.
To round out a terrific beachfront vacation, our home has:
—Two breezy oceanfront screened porches, one on each floor to enjoy the sunrise with your morning coffee. Bring your favorite K-cups for the Keurig machine. There's also a coffee maker if you prefer to brew a fresh pot of your favorite coffee.
—Beach cottage look and feel with open beamed ceilings, shiplap walls, and original wide plank wood floors throughout. New stove and dishwasher too. The home is light and airy.
—A 2/3 bedroom option which means we have two (2) large bedrooms upstairs. The back bedroom can be further divided with a hanging folding divider into two (2) smaller bedrooms. This convertible option is what creates the third bedroom. You choose among the King bed in the primary bedroom, or the two Full-sized beds in the convertible back bedroom. (Please note: Our limit is 4 adults, and a total of 6 guests).
—Full bath upstairs, a half-bath on first floor, and a hot water outdoor shower on the enclosed back deck with storage and a full sized washer and dryer. (The outdoor shower and W&D are in use for summer only).
—Large 54-inch TV in the living room and two TVs upstairs. There is an Xfinity Flex box downstairs; ROKUs and DVD players are in bedrooms with each TV. (This means there is no live cable in our home.) Bring your sign-ins for Netflix, Apple+, AMC, Disney, YouTube TV, etc.
—Bose sound system with Bluetooth for your Pandora and iTunes or for listening to local radio stations and CDs.
—Our local Jolly Trolley stop is a 2-minute walk and you can walk/bike to downtown Rehoboth and Dewey for dining and ice cream. We are just south of Silver Lake, the least crowded and quietest area between Rehoboth and Dewey Beach.
—Off-street parking for two (2) cars where you can leave them without worry. The lovely Fresh Market is five (5) minutes away by car and it has exceptional fresh-cooked meals and a huge selection of gourmet grocery items. With Fresh Market, you don’t have to deal with Route 1 traffic near the outlets for groceries the entire time you’re at “A Fluke of Nature.”
Important information regarding our home:
—Guests must provide their own linens and towels. Bring your pillowcases, fitted and flat sheets for 2 Full size beds, and a sheet set for one King size bed. Also bring your favorite bath and beach towels. We also recommend bringing your own pillows, throws, and blankets.
—Guests provide their own beach chairs, umbrellas, and essentials like laundry detergent and personal toiletries.
—There is no outside grill or BBQ allowed at our home. The structure is a traditional beach house made of wood including our decks and courtyard. If a grill is imperative for your beach week, this is probably not the right beach house for you. (And that’s okay!)
—For summer, rates are weekly plus a cleaning fee, insurance policy, City of Dewey tax, and VRBO processing fee (which we do not control). During the summer months, this is a Saturday to Saturday rental.
—This is a true no-smoking, no-pets, no Senior-week, no large-group property. Smoking is not allowed neither inside or outside. Please do not ask to bring pets. Dewey Beach does not allow pets on the beach between 10am - 5pm so that means your pet would need to stay inside our home all day, every day, and we have no grassy areas nearby. This is not the life we envision for furry family members.
—Since we are not a hotel nor a full-time rental, we have the expectation that our guests will treat our home gently and with respect.
—A fully executed Lease Agreement is required for all paid reservations 45 days prior to check-in; failure of tenant to sign lease or to fill out completely is cancellation and loss of rental payment by tenant.
--Intentional misrepresentation of occupants (eg: number of adults vs. number of children) will result in automatic cancellation and/or immediate eviction.
--We do not have marble countertops nor spa bathrooms. If that's important for an enjoyable beach vacation, our house is probably not for you. (And again, that's OK!)

We had a lovely fall weekend. Steps from the beach, minutes from Rehoboth. Everything super comfortable. Back porches perfect for a quiet afternoon of reading and listening to the waves.

Was amazed how loud and lovely the crashing waves could be while staying at this home. We could hear them all through the house. Coffee on the porch while the sun rose was wonderful looking out at the water. Not a fancy place but clean and comfortable and the location was perfect!

Our stay at A Fluke of Nature was just perfect. The home is everything you could need or want, cozy and warm. The screened in balcony in the master bedroom is one of my favorite places to be, to sit and look at the stars or the moonrise or the sunrise and see and listen to the ocean. The community is special. Can't wait to go back. Marlo is an incredible host.

We have stayed in this beautiful beach cottage more than a few times...and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. It's a well maintained (very clean) cottage stocked with all the essentials! And the ocean view from the upstairs porch is just what you want. AND I have to mention how comfortable the primary bedroom is-- great bed! The location is perfect -- close to Dewey's restaurants and not far from Rehoboth.

So happy my wife and I found this listing years ago on VRBO!! We return as often as possible. We especially like the Autumn at the beach but will visit anytime the timing works out : ) Not only close to the beach, but within walking distance to both Rehoboth and Dewey.

The location is absolutely perfect. The condo is right on the beach which makes very easy travel back and forth..especially with children. The house has everything you need for a great beach stay, though don’t expect luxury. This is a house for people who want to be at the beach, not to stay in a fancy home away from home. The house is walking distance to restaurants in Dewey and Rehoboth, but still provides a very calm and relaxed beach experience - all of the commotion and crowds are also a walking away.

This is our 4th season at Fluke of Nature and we’ve already booked our 5th for 2024. It’s the perfect combination of family fun and relaxation. The host couldn’t be nicer or easier to communicate with. Please just book and don’t think. Just don’t book my week. Thank you Marlo!

A Fluke of Nature is the perfect location! In addition to the beautiful ocean views on both floors, we were an easy walking distance from the Rehoboth boardwalk and Dewey dining and entertainment. When staying in, there was plenty of space for a family of 4 and we all enjoyed napping in the comfortable accommodations or outside on the screened-in decks. You can’t go wrong with this rental.

Perfect set-up for our family of 4 to enjoy a beachfront getaway. Home was stocked with everything we needed to be comfortable during our vacation. Views from the upstairs deck were perfect for dolphin watching. Location is perfect to run/walk/bike straight into downtown Rehoboth Beach. Steps right onto the beach where chair/umbrella service is available for a fee, hot dog stand, and a shaved ice golf cart went by daily. Easy peasy!

We love this property so much. This is our fourth time staying here. This is it if you are looking for the perfect beach vacation property. On the beach, within walking distance to both Dewey and Rehoboth. Marlo is always so helpful. We will be back!

We have stayed at this beach house for a few years now and would not think of staying anywhere else since you can't beat perfection! The views from the balcony are stunning, the walk to the beach is just steps away and the dining experiences in Dewey and Rehoboth are so close by. And the hosts have thought of everything to make it a very comfortable and relaxing getaway!

We are pretty well traveled from adventuring in the mountains to destination beach trips, and I have to say - the stay at Marlo’s property was as close to perfect as it gets.
The location centers you with picturesque views of the beach, dunes, and water - and the lodging has a cozy cottage vibe with thoughtful touches at every turn.
It’s rare to leave a trip and think * wow, that was perfect * but our trip this summer was truly 10/10. Would absolutely recommend this place, Marlo, and the location for anyone looking to get away and truly relax in a picture perfect beach town. Thank you Marlo!

If you don’t like it here then you don’t like it anywhere. This place is bliss for the beach lover. I live 5min from the beach but I’ll still travel 5hrs to stay here. The experience is second to none for the salt life experience. Just don’t book my week next year!!

Best Beach House 2.0
Our second year at Fluke of Nature did not disappoint. The property is clean and quant, perfect for folks who want great beach access and privacy. Chesapeake street is an incredible location offering an easy walk or bike ride to both Dewey and Rehoboth. And because it borders Silver Lake the beach isn't overly crowded. We love taking early morning and evening beach walks to enjoy the surfers, skim boarders, dogs, fisherman, and bond fires.
Marlo is an awesome host and responded quickly when we locked ourselves out. Fluke of Nature is our family's favorite trip of the year (and we travel a lot) because it gives us a chance to unplug and be together. We will be back in 2023!

Perfect Beach Experience
A Fluke of Nature was simply magical--the perfect fit for us. Everything was well-appointed and thought-out with great care. The main bedroom was magnificent. The bed was so comfortable, and we could hear and see the waves through the French doors.
We loved both screened-in porches.
But this is all about location, location, location. My daughter and grand kids stayed a few blocks away. Every morning my husband "set up" the beach. I could see the umbrellas from the upstairs deck. We'd meet for lunch at the house and head back for more beach time.
Marlo is lovely to work with. I hesitate to say too much about it only because we want to rent it again and again. And, yes! We did see dolphins from the veranda.
We could also walk to both Dewey and Rehoboth. We loved the open concept main floor and the beach cottage look and feel. Perfect.

Step out onto the sand!
We enjoyed a lovely stay. The highlight without a doubt was how close we were to the beach - able watch the sunrise without leaving the house and step out onto the sand just by leaving out the back porch. I could have easily stayed on the the back porch or the master bedroom balcony enjoying the views all day, but I didn't :) We walked into the town or Rehoboth every morning, about a mile, via the sidewalks, and then returned via the boardwalk and the beach. I stayed with my husband. The place would also fit a couple with 1-2 kids, given the second bedroom with a privacy divider. But might be snug for two couples - and be warned the master bedroom has a WAY better view. Plenty of information was provided before our arrival, and communication and response was easy and fast. Thanks for a lovely getaway!

"A Fluke of Nature" is where we want to be every September! We come every year because of everything this house and location offers! It is just the best?! And don't want to forget to mention how great the owner is-- she thinks of everything to make our stay very welcoming!

Amazing beach getaway!
What a beautiful property!!! Awesome beach access location and great place to entertain a toddler. The owner was highly responsive, which was appreciated.
We took a family vacation that included our 2.5 year old. He loved the beach / sand toys provided, and the backyard is pretty much a giant sandbox that he loved to dig, scoop and play in. Huge hit!!
The owners bedroom ocean views were awesome. I loved sitting in both the first floor and 2nd floor patios and looking at the water.
A minor concern- the shower head is leaking from the hose and I had to wiggle it to get the water to filter more to the nozzle. I had a difficult time getting my hair fully wet. This said, its not a big deal because the outdoor shower is the one you'll wind up using most anyway, the water pressure there is perfect.
We saw dolphins multiple days here, and for the first time in life I saw a jelly fish in the ocean! It was neat to experience this.
The waves / currents are strong here so we & our little one weren't able to go in the ocean, but we did get our feet wet which was more than enough.
I appreciated the beautiful property, ocean views and thoughtfulness the owner took in the little things like fresh flowers.
It was pretty quiet for a labor day weekend here too, surprisingly at a townhome on the beach.
I would highly recommend staying here, and would 100% go back in the future!

Love this location! So convenient to the beach and the house was perfect. Had EVERYTHING that we needed and it’s super cute. The view from the 2nd floor deck is priceless! Beds were super comfy and the house was so clean. We are a family of 4 and very comfortable. My daughter is 17 and my son is 13 so the divider in the 2nd bedroom was great for privacy when they needed to change; etc. The owner, Marlo, was also a dream to work with. Couldn’t have been any nicer! Highly recommend for family vacation at the beach!

Simply Amazing
Yet again a wonderful week on the beach. Property is just perfect for a family to enjoy the coast of Delaware. Location is perfect to enjoy both Rehoboth and Dewey yet it’s quietly hidden from the crowds. Owner is great and easy to deal with. I’ll be visiting again.

Best Beach House
My husband, two young daughters (5 and 6), and I had the best beach vacation at Fluke of Nature. The location is amazing, nestled on a quiet beach right between the action of Dewey and Rehoboth. We could walk the Rehoboth Boardwalk home at night and a few blocks down for ice cream in Dewey. The condo feels like a perfect beach bungalow. We loved the sandy area out front screened in porches, and proximity to the beach. The divider wall in the back bedroom even provided enough privacy for grandma to stay with us for two nights without feeling too cramped. We absolutely loved Fluke of Nature and are hopeful we'll be able to book it again for summer 2022!

We walked in and the house smelled clean and was immaculate.The color scheme is so relaxing and the furniture and decorations, inside and out, are in great shape and welcoming. And the view of the beach, both upstairs snd downstairs, is spectacular. Sleeping with the windows open and listening to the ocean waves was the best!! It is exactly as it is in the pictures! The location is perfect, quiet compared to Rehobeth, but walking distance to the boardwalk whether by sand or street. It was also walking distance to several local restaurants and stores. Marlo, the owner, is gracious and very concerned about the well-being of her guests. She was available to respond to any question or concern. Such a lovely location at the base of the sand dunes. Couldn’t get any closer to the beach ! The views from both porches are stunning ! The home has updated beach decor and everything needed. Marlo was an attentive host. I will return next summer !

Everything you ever imagined for a beach vacation, location and comfort, rolled into one amazing package! Entering this townhome, A Fluke of Nature, you are immediately impressed by both the crispness of its fully equipped, sparkling white kitchen and the warmth of its cozy, perfectly decorated living room, all yellows, blues, and orange beach hues. You hear the pounding waves, look through the screened porch to the dunes, and beyond them is the never-ending beauty of the ocean. You head upstairs, where there are two large bedrooms, one subdividable for children’s privacy, and the other the most wonderful master bedroom on earth, all blues and comfortable king-sized bed. Opening its French doors, you step out onto the truest gem of the townhome – the screened veranda. You sit in the cushioned yellow Adirondack rocking chairs, watch and hear the waves below, and understand that this is the peace you have ALWAYS been looking for. From the townhouse’s location at the north end of the quieter Dewey Beach, you can easily walk to the excitement and restaurants of Rehoboth Beach. Inveterate walkers, we hiked north to the fascinating Cape Henlopen State Park and south towards the Indian River Inlet Bridge, collecting sea shells as we went. Marlo, the owner, is ever the perfect communicator. Will we return? You can count on it!
