About this house rental
Almost Heaven.
This gracious, award-winning Kenmare townhouse is tucked away in the heart of the village. The secluded location is perfect. Instead of driving into Kenmare for a daily visit, you’re already there. Everything—groceries, pubs, restaurants, entertainment, shops, churches—are close at hand.
No searching around town for a parking spot.
You walk everywhere.
You don’t feel like a visitor.
You’ll live like locals.
Nestled in a copse of eleven white birch trees, Stoneybrough contains 1540 square feet of living area, complete with a full length deck overlooking the River Finnehy, and a fine garden between. You’ll discover an ancient, beautifully designed drystone bridge, known as the Cromwell Bridge, in full view of this highly acclaimed property. A carefully tended Druid stone circle, predating Stonehenge by 2000 years, is around the corner and up toward the end of Market Street, a pleasant ten minute walk rewarded with quiet moments contemplating the ancient stonework and the hardy folk who built it.
Stoneybrough boasts solid Burmese teak woodwork, wall to wall hotel grade wool carpeting throughout, beveled glass French doors and other design and decorating touches you'll find nowhere else.
Guests enjoy blazing fast Starlink WiFi (Download 154; Upload 57 Mbps) along with Sky TV in the lounge, dining room, and the master suite as well. A Bluetooth-enabled stereo radio/CD player with a variety of mostly Irish music—to put you in the mood— is on the bar next to the kitchen. Play your own favorite playlists, but we challenge you to put on “Galway Girl” by The Kilkenny Boys and not sing along!
Stoneybrough is now fitted with a Gen2 Alexa device for information and entertainment.
Two sculptured marble fireplaces provide warmth and comfort, one with a classic Liscannor stone hearth. You'll enjoy pressured showers and powerful built-in hair dryers. A state of the art Apple iMAC computer, free WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen and private off street parking round out the amenities. For a second car, a free public car park is found just across the footbridge.
Looking forward to a night on the town? With sufficient notice, we can arrange for a responsible baby sitter for you.
Stoneybrough furnishes locally made, all natural non-allergenic guest soaps and luxurious robes for all our guests. The cook will find everything needed, right down to alderwood planks for those freshly caught salmon filets on the grill and a DeLonghi cappuccino/espresso machine for your pleasant, tranquil mornings on the deck.
Stoneybrough is not an investment property rented and operated by an impersonal management company. Rather, it’s our second home, managed by us with the help of Joanne, our amazing housekeeper. We believe Stoneybrough strikes the perfect balance between upscale luxury and personalized, carefree service that promotes enjoyment, relaxation and genuine satisfaction, knowing you’ve made the right choice.
Befitting the honor of achieving VRBO/Homeaway’s coveted “Premier Partner” level, we proudly feature premium Boll and Branch linens on every bed, and luxurious Merino lambswool-filled pillows in the Master Suite. At Stoneybrough, you’ll find American comforts you’d expect, but with an Irish accent.
Along with carefully chosen period art and antiques, you'll notice a decorative battle sword mounted on a wall opposite the kitchen, and a genuine Irish drum called a boudran'. These symbolize the great paradox of Irish civilization: their fierce, warlike history melded with their fun-loving, lively and charming musical traditions.
A two-minute stroll takes you to the heart of downtown, with the finest restaurants, pubs, two five star hotels, live music, and busy shops and galleries for which Kenmare is justly famous. The five-star Park and Sheen Falls hotels provide fine cuisine as well, along with luxurious spa experiences judged by Fodor's as the best in Europe.
Kenmare Golf Club, with beautiful views of Kenmare Bay, is only a short walk away. The Ring of Kerry course overlooking Kenmare Bay and the majestic mountains beyond is only a ten-minute drive.
You'll also find Kenmare centrally located for many of the finest golfing experiences in Ireland: the Ballybunion, Waterville, Beaufort, Dooks, Glengariff, Old Head, Tralee and Killarney courses are all within reasonable driving distances.
Kenmare rests astride The Wild Atlantic Way, at the foot of the Ring of Kerry, the most popular travel destination in Ireland. There you'll find breathtaking scenery, stone age ring forts, many unforgettable stops and the striking 6th century monastic site on the island of Skellig Michael, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The island hosted the final scenes in Star Wars VII, when Rae delivers the lost light saber to a brooding Luke Skywalker, and now, a more extensive exposure to the island in Star Wars VIII. A stunning place just an hour away from Stoneybrough. You can even visit a long string of pre-historic fossilized tetrapod tracks on nearby Valencia Island.
A full day exploring the Ring, another on the wild and less-traveled Beara Peninsula, and still another spent on the equally spectacular Dingle Peninsula (Ryan's Daughter and Far And Away were filmed there) will leave you with the most indelible experiences and memories imaginable.
By special arrangement, a private tour guide can customize the perfect day trips to meet your requirements, and our housekeeper, Joanne, is on call to provide flawless concierge-level service throughout your stay.
Returning home, you might whip up a gourmet dinner served on Ralph Lauren Wedgwood china, with the freshest locally sourced ingredients from Roger O'Sullivan's butcher shop and the delightful small grocery just across the cobbled street from Stoneybrough. Feast on local grass fed beef, or fresh Kerry lamb, seasoned and garnished with rosemary picked from your own garden. Or indulge yourself with savory alderwood-grilled Atlantic salmon caught just offshore, with fresh dill from the deck planter.
Or not! Take in an evening of fine dining, fun, music and entertainment at any of the amazing pubs and gourmet restaurants just a five minute walk away. There you’ll enjoy the freshest salmon, shrimp, whitefish, cod, and bay mussels, a local delicacy, in every bowl of steamy, creamy Kenmare seafood chowder. And try the grass-fed beef, venison, Kerry lamb, and the traditional colcannon potato dish with a bit of rich Kerry Gold butter. Delicious!
Then, after an evening of fine food, drink and entertainment, stroll home under the stars, and fall asleep to the enchanting music of the River Finnehy.

Stoneybrough in Kenmare exceeded all expectations with its fantastic location, cozy atmosphere, and well-equipped facilities. The host, John, and property manager, Joanne, ensured a memorable and comfortable stay. Highly recommended for a perfect Irish experience!

This was our favorite stay during our trip to Ireland. The location was very nice, but it was the quality of the house that stood out. A lovely welcome with some food items, thick robes in the bedroom, the outdoor space overlooking the stream were among the things that added up to make this our favorite. We were a group of family -- three single retired women and a couple, and we appreciated the room to spread out.

Lovely home in Kenmare, down a quiet side lane but just steps from all the great restaurants and shops in town. The sound of the river right outside the windows is so soothing. We appreciated all the extras that made us feel welcome, including some basic groceries and snacks, wine and chocolate. The owner provided lots of helpful tips about the area. Really above and beyond hospitality! 100% recommend.

This is a wonderful house that has a lot of character. It has everything you need. It is easy to stay at the house all day, either inside or on the patio overlooking the river. Very nice and peaceful. Short walk to town that is classic Ireland with two Michelin star restaurants, shopping, sightseeing and plenty of pubs. Good place to take tours from.

Great location in a beautiful setting by the river.
The property manager did a warm welcome and explained
operation of everything and was available for any questions. Far above any ordinary rental property and we would return anytime we are in the area.

We spent a week at Stoneybrough, this idyllic home on the bank of the Finnihy River and located just around the corner from the main square of Kenmare. We weren’t planning on a week, but a hurricane arrived, and we had to change our plans quickly. The owner was incredibly responsive in accommodating our needs, and in every other form of support, for that matter. He was a wealth of knowledge and advice about local sights, restaurants, shops, golf destinations, etc. The house is furnished as a real home, with comfort and convenience outfitted everywhere. Being a couple who enjoy cooking in when we can, we especially appreciated the fully-equipped kitchen set up to be truly functional — even the kitchen knives are sharp! The view out the windows of the river running by is both soothing and romantic (except perhaps when a hurricane is visiting), and the house location at the end of a short lane is perfect for being in the middle of town in two minutes yet still being secluded from village activities when at home. We’ve traveled a lot, and this was the best home-stay experience we’ve ever had.

Great home, location, and town. Everything near by: Restaurants, pubs, beautiful scenery. Great base of operations for day trips around Kerry and SW Cork. The house was comfortable, welcoming, and the perfect place for our family of 5 (all adult children)

This property has traditional Irish charm. It is as depicted in pictures and even better you can easily walk to downtown. Great restaurants and shops. It was everything we had hoped for and more. The host and caretaker were always available for any questions or requests.

Our expectations were high given our research on Kenmare and the great reviews that Stoneybrough received from others. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. There were 6 of us staying at Stoneybrough and we did not have a car, but the townhome was ideally located with everything we needed within easy walking distance: pubs & restaurants (loved the Rookery & Mulcahy’s!), shops and grocers (the butcher shop just across the street was excellent!), pharmacies and a very nice golf course (Kenmare Golf Club). Stoneybrough itself was well appointed and easily accommodated all of us. The bedrooms and living areas were extremely comfortable, and the relaxing sound of the River Finnehy just outside was a nice addition to our stay. The thorough documentation on Kenmare provided by the owner prior to our arrival was invaluable in helping us plan our meals & sightseeing, and the property manager Joanne was extremely responsive and effective in addressing all our questions and helping us settle in. Kenmare’s location between the Ring of Kerry & the Beara Peninsula was ideal for exploring both. Couldn’t have been more perfect. Our group has definitely decided to return to Kenmare, and we would all look forward to staying at Stoneybrough again.

We had a great stay in Kenmare. The location is incredible and everything was aligned with the descriptions and positive reviews. Joanne was attentive and did a great job helping us on our stay.

This was our second stay at Stoneybrough….it is perfectly located to walk everywhere in Downtown Kenmare. The home is very, very nice with 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths and a toilet and lavatory downstairs. The washer and dryer come in very handy for longer stays in Ireland. The outside deck is nice and it is peaceful as the river Finney rushes by just below you.
We enjoyed our stay just as much as we did 5 years ago.

We stayed four nights in Kenmare.
The location couldn't be more ideal - situated along a pleasant brook it seemed remote from town, but all the restaurants and pubs were just a short walk away. We had great weather when we were there, but the location and layout would be fine in any weather.
This apartment was perfect for our family of three, but could easily accommodate a larger group as it has three smaller bedrooms in addition to the master bedroom.
The host provided ample and detailed information in advance of our arrival. His assistant met us at the appointed hour and showed us anything we would need to know about the apartment. She also checked in to see if we needed anything additional.
While we didn't do any cooking, the kitchen is very well appointed and had pretty much anything you would need.
If we are ever back in Kenmare, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. Very highly recommended.

My wife and I took our Moms for Mother's Day to County Kerry, Ireland. Stoneybrough is the best location I have ever had for a central travel point. John, the host, delivers everything you need before you take off to make things so simple once you land. Thankful that John and his family allowed my family to enjoy the area in style.
Kenmare is the best base for the area if you explore the Rings of Kerry & Berea. The Stoneybrough house is the best base within the center of Kenmare. Everything is walkable, even for my 78-year-old mom, six months after a knee replacement. The house was clean, homey, and had everything we could have wanted. Finding an authentic place with your desired modern luxuries is hard, but they get it perfectly right here.
John prepares you before you arrive, but he has the perfect partner in Joanne once you land. She went above and beyond, ensuring we were settled in and cared for on arrival. Joanne also checked in throughout our stay, not in an intrusive way, but offering guidance as we needed it. We reached out to Joanne when we had questions, and she always delivered.
The extras are too numerous to mention, but let's say you will be ready to rest after a long journey when you arrive. The Finnihy River alongside the house will lull you into a daydream or fast asleep after a day of exploring. Everything that Stoneybrough offers, and then the bonus of the river and natural beauty of Kenmare, is almost unbelievable. Fairy tale stuff, folks!
If you are a trip planner, you will be a hero by choosing Stoneybrough.

Easy checkin, offsite parking at a perfect location, very comfortable for our three seniors. Thoughtfully stocked and very clean. Beds were quite comfortable, and the deck was a huge plus. We were in Kenmare during an auto rally and it was still very quiet. One of our very best vrbo rentals.

We loved staying at Stoneybrough! The home was clean, VERY spacious, and in an idyllic location. Joanne was a pleasure to talk with. We would definitely stay here again!

John's property was perfect for our Irish & American family. Cozy and roomy, with tranquil river views and steps from Kenmare's best. The hero of the story is Joanne, the kind and welcoming property manager who expertly, patiently, guides you through every step of your stay. There's plenty to go on about Kenmare--I'll leave that to the guide books, your curiosity, and John and Joanne's inside tips--safe to say is the you'll have every opportunity to discover all of it from this prime location. Grateful for the sincere hospitality, the "starter package" in the fridge, the bottle of wine and carafe of Jameson to properly initiate. That tidy town will steal your heart while the scenery robs you of breath. Give yourself the time to find the community cadence, best if based at John's spot in the center of it all.

A wonderful Home from Home, cosy, comfortable, spacious, spotless, every modern facility at our fingertips.
And a surprise welcome package that surpassed any welcome package we’ve ever received & we’ve travelled extensively all over the world.
We had perfect rooms with a view of luscious vegetation, a fast flowing river & historical landmarks.
The surrounding village of colourful Kenmare was a delight, all within a stones throw of our beautiful cottage with interesting restaurants, a lovely hotel, singing pubs, organic shops, regular shops & a local supermarkets nearby.
There was easy access to the amazing stunning scenery of the surrounding famous Kerry locations making Kenmare the perfect location.
The local people were as expected in Ireland friendly, helpful, funny & entertaining.
The bonus was the Private Parking, a must in any village & outside our door.
So what more do you want in such a great place.
We really wanted to keep this fabulous place a great Christmas secret!

The house was attractively and comfortably furnished in an excellent location to access restaurants, shopping, and local points of interest. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed and more. We especially enjoyed having a dining table and a seating area with TV and a lovely gas fireplace immediately adjacent to the kitchen. It was a cozy and comfortable place to relax.
Especially notable was the support and asset available from the housekeeper wo menus on arrival to orient us to the house and provide instructions on how to work the appliances and televisions. She as well as the owner, John, were available by phone and email/text to assist us with information as needed. She made a return visit during our stay when we needed more assistance with operating some equipment. We have used VRBO properties many times and this was definitely one of the best!

Kenmare Beauty
Everything about this property was perfect. The location (right in town), it was very clean and had plenty of space for the 5 of us. John, the owner, gave us plenty of information-from directions to the property to restaurant/pub recommendations and great day trips.

Beautiful Retreat
We loved the house and our stay in Kenmare. In addition to the lovely accomadations and town we enjoyed wonderful weather as we toured the area. We felt very fortunate to begin out trip there. The deck was very welcoming and private, but a great vantage point for viewing children splashing and a dog running about in the stream. A little wine did not hurt the occasion either!

Wonderful, wonderful stay.
The painters and gardener were a little intrusive but that was the only problem we encountered.
The house was very well equipped and we all felt at home immediately. Lovely touches from Joanne.

Family week in kenmare
We spent a week in this fabulous house that is right in the heart of kenmare so you can walk to everywhere. The master bedroom is incredible and like the veranda at the back of the house looks over a babbling stream.
So lovely touches in the welcome pack and the Irish whiskey was very appreciated in the evening.
Overall feel of the house is cosy and a great base for seeing all that Kerry had to offer

Our recent stay @1 Finnehy Ct was special in so many ways.We immediately felt at home in the comfort of an artfully decorated townhome steps from town center.Listening to the river flow @ nite added to the ambiance.
With the guidance of John,Janelle and Joanne we were pleasantly immersed in the happenings of Kenmare town.
We will return to our favorite Kenmare and townhome again.

Stoneybrough
Exquisite for a number of reasons. Location - out the front door & steps away is lovely Kenmare. Yet condo is quiet with only sound of stream running alongside property. Amenities - condo quite comfortable. Exquisite master bedroom & bath; other bedrooms with en suite bath - hot water, on wall hair dryer. Linens, comforters, & bath accessories high quality. Joanne meets you on arrival & is available for questions/support as needed. John provides tons of information to help you plan your day/stay. Kenmare smaller & less crowded than Killarney - we very much enjoyed this difference.

The Best Place Ever!
This wonderful townhouse more than met my expectations! After a week in Ireland and keeping up a frantic pace, not to mention driving on the left on curvy, narrow roads and sharing the road with sheep, tourist buses and farm equipment, we arrived in Kenmare--tired and a little stressed. Joanne greeted us and showed us around--what a welcoming person she is! The property is lovely, quiet (except for the birds and the river nearby), the master suite is large, comfortable and fully appointed. The bed is super comfortable and the mattress was heated! There is so much natural light, with the windows and skylights, but it is also very private. The 2 fireplaces are wonderful to enjoy while sipping port and munching on local cheese and crackers. The location in town is perfect and the location of Kenmare is also a perfect base to explore (if you ever want to leave Kenmare) After our first week of running and driving around, our stay in Kenmare was the perfect way to unwind and just hang around the beautiful and charming town. TONS of places to eat, pubs galore and plenty of shopping. The Wednesday market was great, with local cheeses, meats, eggs (duck and goose!) and more. John gave us loads of information about everything you would need to know, but we would have had to stay a month to cover even half of it. John was great, very responsive, flexible (we came in a day early) and a font of knowledge; Joanne, the housekeeper was warm, friendly and responsive. I'd give this property a 15 out of 10!

Perfection
There are many reasons for all the rave reviews of John and Janelle Stonebraker's Stoneybrough in Kenmare. For us it was perfection. Having toured County Kerry twice before we wanted to stay put without a car to enjoy everyday life in picture-perfect Kenmare for two weeks. Stoneybrough was perfect for our purposes. Located on the river and only steps to all our resources it is in town yet close to nature. Two doors from a vegetarian restaurant and across the street from an organic food co-op, it is only a block from lively pubs, first class restaurants, excellent bakeries and within a 15 minute walk to a large sophisticated supermarket. A small weekly farmers market on the town square offers some excellent specialty items. We also enjoyed daily walks just across the pedestrian bridge and along a single lane road between lush hedgerows bursting with ferns and wildflowers and flanked by rolling farmland in "40 shades of green" or through the nature preserve in a tidal area only 15 minutes walk to the south.
You approach the house through a bower of clematis and muguet de bois. The house itself is cozy and so comfortable with all modern conveniences including an American style washer and dryer and a superior en suite master bedroom. Adding
to our pleasure was the tasteful, interesting and elegant decor, much of it reflecting the owners' interest in antique furniture and fine art. Outside we spent many happy hours lounging on the long veranda by the rock garden featuring camellias, roses and rhododendron and watching visitors exploring the medieval bridge a stone's throw away.
Joanne the housekeeper is simply outstanding as are the Stonebrakers.
And you won't find more charming people than the denizens of Kenmare.

Very conveniently located house in Kenmare
We had a great time in Johns house over the Christmas. It was very comfortable and homely and we really relaxed and enjoyed our time there.
We know Kenmare very well and often stay with relatives but it was lovely to have our own base after celebrating Christmas and the following days with our families in their houses. Thanks to my brother and his wife for all their catering and hospitality over the few days.
This lovely house has everything one would need for cooking and baking but luckily I didn’t have to use anything!
It is very centrally located for restaurants and pubs and we enjoyed plenty of good brunches in Mick and Jimmys, and Boka, as well as music in the pubs in the evenings, without having to order a taxi to get home.
Thank you John for renting your house to us, and Joanne for looking after us while we were there.
We would highly recommend this house for any couples who like to be very close to the centre of the town and wish to have a comfortable luxury few days!

Far exceeded our expectations!
We traveled to Kenmare with our 3 adult children and wanted to be walkable to town so those who wanted to enjoy pub life could do so easily. The photos don't truly show how big this home is. It was large enough to truly spread out and give everyone space to be alone and not on top of each other, but cozy enough for us all to be together and watch a movie or eat meals together or just sit in front of one of the two gas fireplaces and enjoy reading or talking. It was walkable to everything! Pubs, shops, stone ring, large park. You could check in and never leave the village. I wish we'd had time to stay longer before the next part of our irish adventure. I would love to come back with the family again and also with a group of friends. Thank you for sharing your home John, and Joanne was wonderful in her greeting and help and gift of wine and chocolates!
Kenmare is such a friendly town and a surprise in having so much to offer! Multiple bookshops, loads of pubs with great music, cafes, bakeries, friendly people at every turn, fun shops to visit. Don't hesitate to book this perfect townhome on the banks of a sweet river in this fabulous town!
