About this cabin rental
This cabin was built by the owners and opened July, 2013. Much of the wood in the cabin came from the pine and aspen trees on our own land. All of the boards on the outside of the cabin were cut from Mountain Pine Beetle infested trees on our land. The loft ladder and railing we peeled from our trees. The bathroom vanity and medicine cabinet we built from aspen. The deck has a covered roof on it with lounge chairs and a grill. We have built a fire pit with benches next to the cabin for quests to enjoy and relax beside. We have plenty of fire wood for it on site. You can call me at Six 0 five, 5 one 7, one 7 nine 6. I am glad to answer any questions.
We own 23 acres that is surrounded by National Forest Service Land. There is a creek running thru our land with a pond in it just below the cabin. The Norbeck Wildlife Refuge is just 100 yards from our property. We are approximately 3 miles from Custer State Park. You have a bird's eye view of the Needles from our drive way. We are located in the heart of the Southern Black Hill offering a wonderful base to explore all the Hills have to offer, but is also a perfect getaway for those searching for some peace and tranquility. There are many forest trails near the cabin that you can hike, bike, or ride horse on for all the exploration a heart could desire.
Consumables are provided. We are NOT charging a cleaning fee although we hope all will leave the cabin as clean as you found it in hopes of preventing this fee. You pay one half of your stay when you reserve the cabin with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival.
Cancellation Policy: Re-scheduling your stay is always permissible without loss of deposit monies. Cancellations made 31 or more days prior to arrival will receive a refund of the deposit LESS $50.00 or 10% of the reservation whichever is more. If cancelled within 30 days of arrival the initial deposit will be forfeited. Partial deposit may be refunded if the property is re-rented. There will be NO refunds for no-shows, late arrivals, or early departures.
Starting January 1, 2023 we are raising the rate to $140.00 per night.
We'd love to have you stay with us!
We allow dogs in our cabin with no charge but due to some abusing this, we have to set some rules.
There is a limit of 2 dogs only.
If dogs are going to left in the cabin unattended, they must be in a crate.

Everything was wonderful. Hosts were great we really enjoyed our time there!

Our stay was better than expected. Couldn't imagine someplace could be so quiet--absolute quiet. The cabin was remote but not too remote. The host was delightful, checked in to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, made some small talk and was not intrusive. Host has three small dogs (pugs) who roam the property, but they are friendly--one sat with me for an hour one night on the porch swing--but they scatter if you tell them to. We also had two small dogs with us who I would call not social, but they got along well with the dogs too. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet get away that is remote, but not way off the beaten path. If there was one draw back it was the miller moths, a small annoyance that goes with living in the woods--we learned after the first night not to leave doors open with a light on. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A winding gravel drive leads back to this property surrounding by forest land for hiking. The views are fantastic and it is very quiet and peaceful. The owners live on the property and have great hospitality and friendly dogs, however, there is still good privacy. Great place for 2 adults or a family of 4 to stay and enjoy.

Close to town and attractions but also away from it all! Beautiful view and property, lots of wildlife too. We saw turkeys, deer, jack rabbits and indigo buntings on the road to the cabin. The hosts are fantastic and there if you have any questions. This place is a wonderful little getaway.

Fabulous stay. Cabin was nicely equipped, the land was very peaceful and away from everything. There is even a trail you can take around the property. Owner has little pugs that like most pugs love attention. Great for a family stay while visiting the area. Host Deb was excellent.

We had a wonderful time. Couldn't have asked for a more picturesque setting even with the rain. So relaxing, just what we needed. We couldn't have asked for more. Deb, Dave and the puppies were so friendly and super to work with. I would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful surroundings
Cabin was perfect for our family. Owners are super sweet and friendly. We had a greeting committee of 3 dogs upon every return to the cabin. We loved seeing the dogs each time!! Super close to Custer State Park.

Not ideal...rent a different cozy cabin.
The cabin was cute but desperately needs some cleaning. It is infested with moths we spent our night of check in vacuuming and trying to rid the place or bugs and moths. I messaged the host about check in the day of and after we arrived I was messaged saying it was Vrbo job to give that info. Let me say this I rent from agencies about fifty times a year and I always get messaged about check in from the host. Most people reviewed that it was quiet....well they definitely had a different experience then we did. The host started cutting the grass at 8 one morning, and running a water pump at 9 the other. We also were not fans of how invasive her dogs are...they jumped in our vehicle and came into the cabin while we stayed there. When we asked if accommodations could be made nothing changed. I also didn’t like the fact that there where no curtains...you feel like a fish in a bowl. We are from the country and from someone who rents frequently....I would advice to stay somewhere else.

Perfectly Remote
Staying at this cabin was a wonderful experience. It, literally, puts the Black Hills right out your back door. There are not enough words to describe how perfect the location was. There are wonderful views a short hike away from the cabin. There is no "city" noise to speak of. You are a short drive away from wonderful hiking trails in Custer State Park and Black Hills National Forest.
There was more than one occasion my wife and I found ourselves considering a move out to the country when we got back home. All because of the wonderful experience of being off the beaten path with Deb and Dave. Speaking of Deb and Dave, they were both wonderful hosts. They are right up the hill if you ever have any questions and are more than willing to talk about what the area has to offer.
This property is definitely worth it!!

Perfect Place to Unwind and Relax
The property was just perfect for our trip to Custer State park. Deb and Dave were perfect hosts and were gracious to let our daughter interact with their pet cows. She was in heaven. It was delightful to look out the window in the evenings to see the wild deer grazing just steps away from the sliding glass door. The cabin in conveniently located and just a short drive to Custer State Park. We would most definitely stay here again. And, the next time, we will stay longer.

Southern Black Hills
Very nice place to stay proximate to Custer State Park. Custer City, with all the amenities was a few minutes away. We had brought our springer Millie, who spent much of the time playing with Mollie, the bull dog. There were deer in the yard in the morning and at night. The pond attracted a heron, and a pair of kingfishers. The owners were very helpful and accommodating.

Remote and Quiet Cabin
We were only here for a long weekend and it seemed way too short. This cabin is perfect for some peace and quiet. The owners were very welcoming and the cabin was lovely, especially the covered porch that looked out over the property. Great find!

Beautiful little getaway cabin!!
A perfect little get away cabin off the beaten path. This place was perfect for us on our 4 day vacation to South Dakota. It was close to town or to visit Custer state park or the Black hills. It was so peaceful and relaxing to be out in nature and away from the noise of the city. Dave and Deb were incredible hosts and made sure the place was spotless and we had everything we needed. If we ever venture to Custer again we will be sure to book again!

We loved our 3 night stay in this cabin! It was perfect for our family of 4. Our kids, ages 11 & 13 loved tge ladder & loft! We loved the view of the needles hwy & of the cows. Kids also loved the dog, cat & tire swing. My husband & I loved the gas grill & firepit. This cabin had everything we needed down to a lighter for the firepit & chopped wood ready to go. Highly recommend!!! Thank you for your hospitality, Deb!

Completely surrounded by National Forest, driving up to this place is driving through the wilderness to a bit of modern convenience and peace. While this part of the country is known for its pilgrimage of road trip vacationers, you can slip away to your own quiet natural reserve. Get away from the lines of cars in Custer State Park (amazing views of Bison by the way), or the many people stopping to take pictures of Mt. Rushmore, Needles, Crazy Horse, etc (you can see the Needles from your deck) and just relax after a long day of sightseeing.
The cabin is small, but it is well stocked and well described in the listing. And the owners are on site and EXTREMELY helpful if you need anything.
We would love to go back, just plan ahead as it books out pretty far in advance.

We've stayed in many vrbo's and this one is top of our list! Not only is there so much to do in Custer State Park, the cabin made our trip that much more magical. Deb and Dave are amazing hosts. They are available if you need them. Libby the dog and the kitty my kids named Checkers were definitely a high light. If we ever return to Custer, this is where we will stay.

We just left the cabin and had a wonderful time. Deb and Dave were wonderful and their property is absolutely amazing. My kids loved the loft and having their own special room. The location was perfect - 20 to 30 minutes from Mt Rushmore, Hot Springs etc. My favorite part was sitting outside the cabin and listening to the wind hit the beautiful trees. A vacation we will always remember!

What a nice, cozy cabin! The scenery was fantastic and the owners were overly accommodating. We liked that it was so close to the areas we wanted, and loved the rustic (with modern conveniences) feel when we came "home" after a long day. The use of the grill was nice, and the fire pit was an added bonus for our family. My boys so enjoyed sleeping in the loft as well as climbing the rocks. If you stay here, don't forget to pet the cows, cats, and Libby!! Thank you Dave and Deb for a wonderful and memorable vacation!
