Plenty of space for our family and pets! We had good fishing and beach area was clean for kids. Only thing is frequently touched areas ie: stair railings, doors and wood chairs could be cleaned to remove grimy surfaces. We did book again for next year

House is excellent. Host was excellent. We hope to be back!

We only stayed for 1 night since we were getting married nearby. The beds were great, view was fantastic and there was enough room for 12 of us.

The area was awesome and the house was super unique and adorable! Was perfect for a girls weekend! It didn’t have sleep spots for 14. We had 11 girls and someone stayed on the floor because no air mattress. Was hoping to swim off the dock but was flooded. To no fault but weather. Just would have liked to have known haha overall would recommend!!

The interior of the house was pretty nice. We spent a lot of time in the sunroom off the kitchen. We also really enjoyed the deck overlooking the lake. Lindstrom is a very pleasant little town. The exterior of the house was disappointing. Pictures are a bit misleading. Still enjoyed our visit.

so not usable. It was billed as handicap accessible which it is NOT. The thresholds beween rooms were raised so difficult to navigate from room to room in a wheelchair.
The interior badly in need of paint and a deep cleaning.
There was carpeting in the master bathroom which is unsanitary. We were very disappointed!

We used this Swedish cottage as a base for our book club trip to learn about Swedish immigration. It was perfect with so many places to relax. We used them all…the living room, the back porch, the table by the lake as well as the dock. We enjoyed the large table for meals and the small table for games. I texted a question to Jim the owner and he called immediately with the information we needed. We’d stay here again and would highly recommend it. The town is walkable with some neat shops. Highly recommend the fresh brats at the meat market. I bought several packages to take home.

This charming yellow historic house has so many nice areas to hang out. We were a little surprised at the "rustic" feel to it and the original main level is showing its age. But once we got used to the decor and all adults staying with us got settled, we quickly made it our home. The property is perfect for family gatherings around the kitchen or on the porch or by the fire or on the deck overlooking the lake. I would suggest this house for any season booking as it has all year charm and room for 6 adults easily! Thanks to the hosts for providing our perfect VRBO getaway.

Everything you would expect from a historic Minnesota lake house. Plenty of room for everyone to gather. Easy, sandy bottom lake access. The kids and grandkids all had a great time. We just wish we would have stayed longer. We were having such a good time at the house, we never took the time to explore the town!

“Fridhem” is on the Minnesota Historical Registry and like most 100+ year old homes has it’s quirks, like dormered ceilings in places in the upstairs and a deck around the house that dips in certain places. But it is spacious and substantially updated. It is very well stocked and has all you need for a vacation and lots of well labeled places to find them all. Dock is perfect for a pontoon boat that can be rented for 4 or 8 hours at Captain Shawn’s 6 minutes away and fishing was quite good. Firepit time with wine, jazz on our own rock speaker and talking with friends each night was a definite highlight. Dinner at the Stone Inn on night and Jake’s on the Lakes another were a compliment to cooking on the grill. If you want a relaxing place for a large group, it’s great!

12 women of a family, ages 20-80. So much laughter our stomachs hurt! Games stories of life, gifts to each other and we all said how well we slept. Home felt like a place full of other family stories. Old historic cottage full of such tasteful comfortable antiques and a homeowner extremely helpful and kind!!! Can’t beat that for a weekend!😊

We left the kiddos at home and had a slumber party with just us adults! It was so fun to have a night away. The full kitchen was perfect for cooking dinner & breakfast and having so many bedrooms meant only two folks had to share. It was a lovely stay!

This was a wonderful place for our family. The house is charming and has a lot of character. It was very clean and everything was organized well. The owner was very helpful and attentive to any questions or requests that we had. Check in and check out were both easy and quick. The house has five bedrooms (the office has an actual bed in it, not an air mattress as I think one of the old reviews had said). The upstairs master suite is lovely! The downtown area provided some shopping opportunities within walking distance and the coffee shop got rave reviews. The residents of the town were friendly and kind. The lake is beautiful and we enjoyed a lazy morning drinking coffee on the deck. Grocery shopping at Brinks was great (good selection and decent prices). We would love to come back sometime!

This was a great property for our family get together. The home was very comfortable and roomy, and the location was great.

Great experience and I will use this property again!

This home is a great place to stay if you have a bigger group as there is lots of space to gather together, but also seek out privacy too. We loved dining room because it easily accommodated our family of 8. The kitchen was well stocked and we loved gathering around the kitchen island to make meals and visit.
The view of the lake was the best from the kitchen, so beautiful and we watched ice fisherman on the lake.
We really enjoyed the neighborhood where the home is located because you could go for nice walks (they have nice sidewalks) to the park on the lake or, if you want to you can even walk into the cute little town to shop or find a restaurant or bar. The house is located far enough away from the Main Street that you wouldn't even know how close you are. The home is old (historic), and maybe could use a little TLC in a few places, but we did not find this to be a problem at all for our stay (just something to be aware of if you are a person who wants "everything to be perfect"). The home was clean and we loved our stay. The owners were wonderful to communicate with and so kind. Thank you!

This property was spacious for 8 people, and lots of space to sprawl out, but also connect.

Hi all, This property is difficult to review because the history, town and neighbors make it hard to say anything bad. And yet those are the very reasons the house deserves more. The word dilapidated will soon be what describes the house if it doesn’t get much needed attention. The roof is in dire need of repair. The inside has quaint touches, but was also dirty …..crumbs in cabinets, Monostat 7 cream left in bathroom that expired in 2009, stained carpet (let alone carpet in bathrooms is unsanitary. So many remnants of others left behind. The outside view was majestic and yet the leaves weren’t cleaned up. The garage is in front of the house with neighbors close by (not what I expected from pictures). My heart is sad to post this as there as is no easy fix for the owners. A good cleaning in and out will help…but water damaged ceilings, sunken roofing, and sloping porch (with birds nests and poop) are costly. Hopefully the house can be saved.

We had our second annual “Rosettes” weekend at Fridhem and we recently booked our third! We have a large group of ladies and children, and there was comfort for all. We took kids down the block to the park and playground. We shopped the darling Lindstrom shops. We dined at Gustaf’s and had flights of wine at Winehaven. Everyone had a great time. Perfect for our needs!

We had a multi generation family gathering here. Great location and beautiful fall colors!

Historic and Quaint are the operative words as you step into what can only be described as a movie set. The expansive and quirky lay out only add to the charm and provided lots of bedrooms for our party of 7, overnight party of 6. Proximity to town provided a little shopping and a stop at the municipal bar as well as the bakery was in order. At night we drank wine by the fire in the great room, and just laughed and caught up.

Jim was very responsive with all our questions. If you are looking for everything to be perfect, this might not be a property for you. This is a historic home with lots of character. Everything works well, no issues. Worked perfect for our group of 11. Plenty of bedrooms to allow everyone their own space. Beds are dated, and are fine, but are not the newest on the market today. Outdoor space is fantastic with a deck overlooking the lake with plenty of seating and grills. Fire pit separate with plenty of seating. Would definately consider staying here again if we were in the area.

Great location less than 1 hour from our home in the Twin Cities. Very close to a public beach that was a hit with the kids (About 2 blocks away). Communications with host easy & efficient. One minor issue from my perspective, a little more significant for my wife, the house could use a deep cleaning.

We rented this for a small rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding and had the wedding party stay the night there. It was the perfect spot! So beautiful by the water and so quaint. Jim was easy to talk to and always available for questions

This is an interesting place to stay because the house has such a unique history. It has everything you need, but keeps a lot of the historic details. We had 6 adults and 3 young children and there is so much space in this house with so many rooms that we all had privacy. We loved the deck overlooking the lake and being able to walk 1.5 blocks to the sand beach and playground. Lindstrom is a cute little town with many things within walking distance. There are a number of things to do within 20-30 minutes also. The proximity to the Twin Cities and being able to bring pets were big bonuses for us. Definitely recommend for large groups! Thanks to owner Jim for answering my many questions.

The house was clean and attractive, had comfortable beds. Kitchen was well equipped with supplies and useful utensils.
Suggestions: grab bars in the baths and another handrail for the steep stairs. Those would help especially senior citizens.

What a treat to have a siblings reunion at Axel's house (Fridhem). We lived two doors away from 1966-1969 and visited frequently. It was fun to reminisce as we gathered at the kitchen island, on the pavilion and around the fire pit. The Great Room is still impressive and what a transformation from the huge attic! Plenty of room in the bedrooms and the beds are super comfy. We did see alot of cobwebs on the front porch (don't know how often a 125+ year old house has to be sprayed for spiders) but didn't spend any time out there.
Thanks Jim & Caryn!

Clean enough for adults and teens but was concerned with how dirty our infant was after crawling on floors.

We had a wonderful time! We loved the character of the house and the property was just what we were looking for. Plenty to do for all ages. We hope to stay again sometime.

We loved the opportunity to participate in the many local activities associated with Karl Oskar Days. To top it off our grandsons were able to get up on skis for the very first time. The location of the property to downtown Lindstrom is perfectly walkable. We are already looking forward to our Summer 2024 stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the Swedish Cottage, it is a very spacious and clean home with lots of charm. The location was perfect, a combination of lake life along with being close enough to explore downtown Lindstrom. Jim was very kind and responsive. We were so happy that we could bring our precious doggies too. We will definitely be coming back!

The house is a Victorian home built in 1895. It was immaculate inside. Large living spaces and multiple bedrooms and baths accommodate a big family. It’s well equipped with just about anything you need., from kitchen and grilling equipment to bug spray, beach and both towels, life preservers for the kayak and canoe, etc. As an old historic home the floors creak and some slope and there are things to replace, but that’s what an old home is about. For one week it was our home and felt like home. The AC was great and cooled the house nicely during a hot week.
4.8
Nice historical property. Sufficient space for all 11 of us. Comfortable sleeping and house stayed very cool in 90+ temps.
The dock and beach were quite overgrown. After some back and forth, Jim had me pick up some garden sheers on credit from the local hardware store and trim up the dock. Found the steps to the beach and much fun was had.
Overall, good trip. Jim was good with responses and the weather held out.

Overall the stay was fabulous! We enjoyed the house. The rooms were large and the space worked well for different groups of people. The owners checked in to say hello and were very friendly! The only thing was that the photos of the beach were a little outdated and the sandy beach was very small. There wasn’t room to enjoy the sand but there was a dock that was nice to relax on!

We had 5 couples, 3 toddlers, 1 infant, and 4 newborns - the house was perfect! Lots of indoor space that fit us all well. Easy stroller walks to ice cream, coffee, multiple playgrounds, and the beach! The fenced in backyard is mostly dirt and tree covered, so we spent most of our time in the sunny front yard or at the beach between naps. Would love to stay again!

Loved this beautiful home! Perfect accommodation for our needs and very gracious hosts!

We had a fabulous weekend in this beautiful home. We have stayed here in the past and were excited to be able to spend Memorial Day weekend together at this awesome location. Jim was helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended!!
