About this cabin rental
Whether you enjoy outdoor activities or just want to relax on our deck overlooking the river, you will love this place. Hike the trails nearby, swim, kayak, and picnic at one of many beautiful mountain lakes, gaze at the Sierra Buttes, fish and enjoy the local swimming holes on the Yuba River, or just relax with a view of the river and the Tahoe National Forest. Perfect for a family vacation or group of friends. Great for tele-commuting with a view -- if your boss will let you!
During winter it's a great location to avoid the crowds of the Tahoe area and is great for cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, or sledding with the family. Or just relax by the cozy fire. Borrow our snowshoes and poles or our sled and have some fun.
Enjoy time on the riverside deck, fish on the river below, and sleep to the relaxing sound of the river. Enjoy the restaurants in the picturesque mining town of Sierra City or Downieville or buy groceries at the local Country Store and cook or barbecue at the cabin. Ride your bikes around town, ride the single tracks on your mountain bike, or ride your road bike up Gold Lake Road along many gorgeous lakes.
New: Electric Vehicle charging available if arranged in advance.
Check out our low weekly pricing - may be better to spend a week - there is lots of see and do in the area. Telecommute from the cabin for a few days while the rest of your family enjoys a longer vacation.
There are two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. One king bed, one queen bed, and a queen size air mattress that can go in either room or the living room. One bathroom has a shower, the other has a bathtub with a shower head. The second bedroom has a private entrance to the hall bathroom. There is access to the entire house, except the garage. Living space is about 1200 square feet.
The TV is an old 35 inch model but it is set up with a ROKU box and both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions so you can enjoy great movies, TV shows, news, weather, and music. Although there is no cable TV, most broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, ESPN, etc.) have apps on the ROKU so you can watch those networks live if you have a cable subscription at home. Plug your music player to the stereo system (bring adaptor if required). VHS, CD, and Cassette players are also available.
You are welcome to use the gas barbecue on the back deck facing the river and the washer and dryer in the hall bath. Connect your phones and laptops to our WiFi network for fast internet connectivity.
You may borrow our kayak to enjoy on the lakes nearby (not the river). Fits two adults and a child or dog. Please arrange for kayak ahead of time if interested.
Guests have access to the whole cabin, except the garage.

Notes
For holidays or weekends from June to October we have a 3 night minimum (except with short notice if the dates are still available or if only 2 nights are available on the calendar)
In cases where we have another guest checking in or out on the same day, I need to check our housekeeper's schedule before confirming your reservation request. If our housekeeper's schedule requires a later check-in time or earlier checkout time, I will check with you before confirming your booking. Sorry for this inconvenience. On the positive side, we often have flexible checkin/checkout times if our housekeeper's schedule allows it.
Note: During busy times of the year, if you check in or check out on a Sunday, we may require checkout by 11 am or check in at 6 pm due to availability of the cleaner.
The cabin, including its decor, is from the 60s. Most of our guests appreciate the "vintage" look. Just note it's not a modern home and it is rustic. We have formica and linoleum. We don't have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal. Also, our heaters sometimes make noise when they expand and contract (but we have electric heaters as back up if that bothers you).
There is no big grocery store nearby. It's part of the appeal of the small town. We recommend you shop for groceries at home or on the way up in Auburn, Grass Valley, or Marysville.
If you are coming for snow in the winter please check the weather and snow levels or ask Francisco ahead of time. We sometimes don't have snow at cabin level - depending on the weather and time of the year but you can usually find snow a short drive away. The cabin is at 4200 Feet. Bassetts Station and Gold Lake Road (5500 feet) are 5 miles away and the Yuba Pass SNO Park (6700 feet) is 11 miles away.

Not updated but very well maintained. Great location. Quiet. Great for pets. Very central to town and lakes.
I like to make it easy on housekeeping when I leave and that’s problematic with no dishwasher and 10 am checkout. But owner was very nice about a later checkout.
Overall very positive experience.

Stay was just as described with pictures and owner descriptions. The house was super comfy , clean and spacious for family time. The master bedroom was huge and bed was incredibly comfortable. Kitchen had ample appliances and anything you’d need for cooking. Refrigerator was clean and great size for all the food we brought for our hungry family.
Thank you for an amazing stay.

We enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed. It was as described in listing. I loved being close to the river and listening to it’s soothing sounds while relaxing. The only issue was one in our party has allergies and had an issue with the down pillows. It was a great place to come back to after day outings up the Gold Lake Highway.

We would stay there again.

Great cabin and launching point
The cabin was perfect and just as advertised. It is a great location for relaxing on the deck, in the river and as a launching point for the numerous excursions available in the Lakes Basin Area. Will definitely be back, and will need to make a winter trip as well.

Fun snow experience getaway
We had a great stay at the cabin, thank you! I would recommend this place for a short fun winter getaway. Myself, my husband, children ages 5 & 7 and our dog stayed there for 2 nights. The pictures and description were very accurate and Fransisco was a great with communicating both before and during our stay which was very much appreciated. One of the showers was clogged from the start but luckily there were two available, so it worked out fine. Fransisco said he was going to have it fixed ASAP after we left before nexts guests arrived. My kids were hoping there would be more young children's games and books available in the cabin also. The games that were available were for older kids/adults and many appeared really worn with missing pieces.

Winter Wonderland
Arrived during a snowstorm. Fortunately the cabin is gas heated as there was a power outage. There was plenty of wood for the fire and the kitchen is well equipped. The cabin has lots of character. The area is lovely with lots of walks close by.
Our host was very responsive to the situation which was outside of his control.

Perfect Getaway
The location of this house was so wonderful that I already have dreams of returning. I was craving time away by a river or stream, and could not have found a more perfect rental. The large, expansive deck looks over the beautiful Yuba River. One mile away there is a campground on Haypress Creek with wonderful places to sit and enjoy the creek plus a trailhead for some great hiking. My husband, adult daughter and I started and ended our days on the deck with the soothing sound of the river, cups of tea in the morning and dinners prepared on the gas grill in the evening. The house itself is older and has a couple quirks, but is homey, well maintained and clean, and had everything we needed, from a well-stocked kitchen to comfortable beds. Francisco was a fantastic host: engaged, available and responsive. He provided wonderful tips and guides to the surrounding area. What a great rental!

Amazing!
Great house, clean and well stocked, very comfortable. Private and quiet. Fantastic location at the edge of a national forest and along the river. Was great to be able to walk the dogs in such a lovely forest. Owner very responsive and helpful. We have an electric vehicle (Tesla) and the owner helped us determine that we could use the outlets in the garage to charge making us feel so good about this remote area. Cute little Sierra City close with a couple restaurants and nice little store with great lunch meat.

Stunning location, Roomy Cabin, GREAT owner!
Big roomy cabin off the beaten path with a small waterfall right outside our bedroom window! STUNNING buttes and scenery all around. Walking distance to two hiking trails. Absolute BEST communication of any VRBO owner we ever had (and we've had dozens) We will be back!

This is the perfect place for a rustic retreat away from the stress of work and school. Great communication from host and check in/out is a breeze. Our favorite parts were the fireplace and the river running right through the back yard! The sight and sound of the river melts your cares away. Our kids enjoyed the unique checkerboard table. The kitchen is equipped with everything a family needs to prepare meals. The location is really away from it all with fun day hikes and lakes near by. The decor is charmingly vintage and cozy. The deck is perfect for enjoying the river view. There was one small thing that was an issue for us. The heaters in the bedrooms really need to be replaced. You can not adjust the temperature easily and they are extremely noisy. The host provides space heaters as an alternative, but again temperature control at night is a challenge. Space heaters aren't the safest while sleeping. If you are sensitive to night time temperatures or noise when you sleep this could be an issue. That said, this is an exceptional place with a top notch host. We would return for sure!

Step back in time - and just relax!
Lovingly preserved vintage family house in the woods - beside the beautiful Yuba River. Clean, comfortable, un-fussy, good WiFi, dog welcoming. Family of 4 had a nice getaway to this house near Sierra City - lots of walking (on and off snow) and relaxing. We’d have enjoyed spending more time out on the front and back decks if it had been warmer - front has awesome close-up view of Sierra Buttes, and the back deck looks over the rushing river. Owners are fantastic - Francisco was super responsive, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. So much to do here in any season - bring your swimsuits, bikes, paddle boards, hiking boots, binoculars, watercolors - or just a good book. There’s even a kayak provided for summer and snowshoes for winter.

Great stay
What a special place; right on the beautiful river, and minutes away from great hiking. The home has every thing you need. I had brought many groceries along and the kitchen was the best outfitted of any rental I’ve stayed. Tools, dishes, seasonings, etc. The owners were extremely responsive and even offered early check in unprompted. I can’t wait to stay again.

Cabin in the woods...
... with just enough modern touches to keep you comfortable. We were in town to ride mountain bikes so we didn't spend a lot of time at the house, and it was late October so it was cold at night, and dark early. Because of all that we didn't really get to take advantage of some of the best things about this place like hanging out on the deck, by the river, and BBQ'ing. Fabulous place. Mabye next time.

Our White Christmas Dreams Came True! Hidden Gem!
If I could give more stars - I would!! What an amazing property! A hidden Gem for sure!! My Husband and I, along with our 3 kids and small puppy stayed here for Christmas week. It was everything and more! The cabin was very spacious, clean and had everything we could possibly need.
We were blessed to have a White Christmas Eve and Christmas Day- something we've always dreamed of having!
It was truly breathtaking! The back deck overlooked the River, which was so amazing to listen to each day- very relaxing. Our kids enjoyed finding hiking sticks and walking along the river. Our pup could not get enough of the outdoors and playing in the snow! I really appreciated that this place was very dog friendly.
The Family/Living room was very spacious and had really comfortable sofas with a fire place. It was so cozy! There were games and books included, not to mention Wifi and Roku and Netflix - which really helped with the kids at night time. We had Movie Night every night complete with s'mores and hot cocoa!!
The Bedrooms and Bathrooms were so clean, beds really comfortable and I especially appreciated having a heater in the bathrooms!!
The cabin is tucked away, but still close enough to town, which we enjoyed visiting as well.
Our Family had so much fun and made lots of memories. We will definitely be back again and again! In fact - we are already planning to book sometime this summer!!
Francisco was super responsive and we can't wait to come back!

Wonderful place
We spent a week at Francisco's wonderful cabin over Thanksgiving holiday. The cabin is welcoming and very comfortable, and has everything one can ask for. Views are breathtaking, beds are comfortable and the vibe is so relaxing, I wish we were still there. Our 9 year old son thoroughly enjoyed a new experience of clearing snow off of the decks, and I cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner in the lovely kitchen. We are sure to be back!

Amazing!!!
Where to start? My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cabin and area. While we love the Lakes Basin, our stay in this home made the experience even better than we expected. Francisco is amazingly responsive and so easy to communicate with. The information about the cabin and the surrounding area gives you a lot to go with to help with planning your stay (mountain biking, hiking, fishing, boating) whether you want to cram in a lot of adventure or do nothing. The cabin is so comfortable it was hard to leave to do the things we planned. Sitting outside and watching the river flow for nearly all of our meals was a real treat. We borrowed the binoculars to look at the Milky Way at night and the stars were dizzying due to a lack of light pollution. We did bike to town as recommended to get our ice cream which was so worth it. From the cabin, it is an easy walk to some really cold swimming. We cannot wait until we can return for a full week! Thank you for sharing your home Linda and Francisco! We had an amazing stay!

Wonderful Cabin Near River
Our family really enjoyed Thanskgiving holiday in River Front Mountain Cabin. It's very well equiped, very comfortable and has great location near the river. great cabin on the river
We had a great stay at Francisco's place. It is set in the woods, right on the river with a great deck overlooking the water. I could have spent lots of time on that deck, although in Oct it was a bit cold. Francisco is an active owner, always trying to make your stay better and ready to help with any concerns. He has provided plenty of instructions on things in the house so you can figure everything out. Everything we needed was there and we enjoyed our stay very much. Lots of hiking, fall colors, views of lakes, nice drives, and good lunches at nearby restaurants, although their hours in Oct were a bit iffy. It would be fun to see in winter.

Perfect Sierra getaway!
We just enjoyed our second weekend at the cabin. September was a great time to visit -- fall color, but still warm enough to swim and have happy hour on the deck. This place is the perfect base camp for all the Lakes Basin day hikes. We'll be back for sure!

Private waterfront home
Hate to give this jewel away, but the property and owners were so wonderful that this place deserves all the praise. Spent a week at this property, so clean and well stocked, and I mean everything you could need from kitchen supplies to outdoor dining, etc... The view from the deck is priceless over the running water and tranquil private surroundings! Only regret is we had to go back to reality. Never met an owner so attentive to making the trip go well and ensured all our needs were met!

Perfect!
We loved our time at the cabin. It's the perfect summer getaway. The deck may have been our favorite part -- perfect for morning coffee, afternoon reading, and dinner alfresco. Your can hear the river from every room in the house. The master bedroom is spacious, and the bed is comfy. The kitchen is well equipped. The vintage furnishings made us smile.
Each of the two bedrooms has its own bath, so this would be a nice place to come with another couple.
We appreciated Francisco's friendly and thorough communication about the cabin itself and things to do in the area.
We can't wait to return!
