About this cottage rental
Summerhaven Beach House is a spectacular fully updated century home located oceanfront and overlooking miles of surf and sand; a vacation spot that is truly PEI. Breathtaking views in all directions - beach combing at your doorstep with new treasures to find each day. Relax on the oceanfront deck with views of both the sunset and sunrise.
Southern exposure makes this one of the warmest beaches on the Island. At low tide hundreds of acres of sand are exposed leaving shallow tide pools that are warmed by the sun. It is a perfect spot for swimming, walking, and exploring. The waters here are warm and inviting and perfect for families and young children.
Located within minutes of the charming village of Victoria-by-the-Sea there is theatre, fishing, kayaking, antiquing and restaurants nearby.
The living room and kitchen both overlook the beach and stunning blue ocean so when you aren’t sitting outside, you can still keep it in view from indoors.
Eight people can sleep comfortably at Summerhaven. There are three spacious bedrooms upstairs - each one with a big window to let in the fresh ocean breezes and a view of the ocean.
The history of Summerhaven is unique - Designed by Island architect C.B. Chappell and originally built for the PEI Railroad, it was home to Railroad Stationmasters since 1900. The house was recently fully restored and moved here to the ocean.
Your PEI vacation awaits!

This is an amazing summer home. We were a group of five women (my partner and her three sisters). The house was clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The living room has a big window where you can sit and enjoy the always changing view of the ocean or look at the moon shining on the water at night. We swam. We walked the beach. We read books on the deck. I hope we can go back again some day. It was magical!

Paradise in PEI!
We were so lucky to stay in this beautiful home in PEI. My parents and I had a wonderful time on the Island, and particularly sitting in the front room of Summerhaven or outside, enjoying the sunshine. Everything was wonderful. Ms. MacLellan has a well-deserved reputation for being a super host and everything was perfect!
The house has a lovely beachy vibe and all of the three bedrooms are beautiful and roomy. The house was incredibly clean and tidy and very welcoming. The bathroom and half bath are both on the first floor so if you have to get up in the night then you need to head down the stairs but that was fine! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, and there was a barbecue out back. We had quite a few meals 'at home' and that was lovely. The back room is the star of the house with its amazingly big window and even more amazing view of the water. You can have your coffee, drenched in sunshine and admiring the view.
Due to the big storm Dorian that had just passed, the stairs to the beach had been lifted up. Although, it would have been nice to have that incredibly easy access, we were able to access the beach (at low and higher (but not high) tides!!) just down the road. It was lovely to wander out there at low tides.
The area around Borden-Carleton was lovely and easy to get around, we hung out at the house, but we also took trips up to Cavendish, Summerside, and spent many a happy hour wandering Victory By the Sea. There are some lovely crafty places there and several delicious places to eat. In particular we loved the Lobster Barn (book ahead and make a reservation for lunch or dinner), as well as the Landmark Oyster House. We also had a wonderful meal at the By the Road Side Café (amazing clam chowder and fresh bread) and the store has many reasonably priced and beautiful art and crafts.
It really was a slice of paradise! I would love to come back sometime in the summer to take advantage of even more spectacular things on PEI and to once again enjoy being at Summerhaven! It is very aptly named.

First time in PEI - but not our last
Windows facing in every direction invite the sea breeze throughout the cottage. We had evening temps of 20 C, but the breezes may it comfortable. At high tide, the water is amazing and deep enough to swim freely. At low tide, you can walk for miles and the water reaches hip height. The cottage itself was exceptionally comfortable and filled with little extras, such as children's books and toys in the shed. The only shortcoming is that the bathroom and powder room are both on the main floor, and the bedrooms are all on the second floor, so nighttime visits to the washroom can be tricky for the very young and very old. We are already dreaming of our next visit.

Rustic Well Located Cottage For The Whole Family To Enjoy
The location and decor of the property were great. Centrally located to access all areas of the island and with a beach that was enjoyed by young and old.
The cottage/house has all the amenities of home and more. There were three bedrooms but with a small den area with a pull out couch could make four bedrooms if required . Lots of room between neighbours and lots of comfortable chairs for sitting. This is an older home but the decor and room available gives a large living space for everyone to enjoy.
Communication with the owner was easy and information provided by the owner helped plan our vacation.
Our family would stay here again. Loved the ambiance and location.

Authentic PEI Experience
This was our 4th trip to PEI and this house offered the best experience yet! I travelled with my 3 teenage daughters and we loved this house! We visited during the first week in July and the beautiful ocean view was framed by the lupins. Most mornings and evenings we were treated to visits by 3 baby foxes playing on the edge of the yard. The beach directly in front of the house was great for waking and frisbee during the low tide. The short walk to the beach with the bridge view provided the best beaches we’ve seen for sea glass.
The house was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. It’s an old house but not lacking in any area - other than not having a bathroom on the second floor.
The location is great and allows easy access to the entire island. The beach view and access make this a one of a kind experience. The house is in a quiet area with very few neighbors. We enjoyed riding the bikes on the roads in the neighborhood. The bikes accommodated 3 of us at a time and there were a couple of additional bikes for younger kids.
Carol was great to work with. She was very responsive to my questions leading up to the trip and she made sure we had everything we needed upon check in. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Delightful house and beautiful view
Summerhaven was just as described. The house is charming, clean and comfortable, with interesting and delightful touches. It felt like home! It had everything we needed and more. But best of all was the spectacular view from the patio, two of the bedrooms and the large window in the living room! Our granddaughter loved combing the beach and wading in the water, and she learned about tides and the Northumberland Strait, because we were right on it! Carol was very responsive and helpful. We are so glad we booked Summerhaven!

Wonderful Oceanfront Property
This property was great. The house is located right on the ocean with a stairway leading down to the water. Low tide uncovers a large red sand beach. The location is private and quiet, but it is still easy to get around the island. The house has been well cared for and is well equipped. Carol, the owner, is very responsive and helpful. I would definitely return to this property.

Beautiful relaxing setting where you can hear the waves on the shore from the house at night.
Lovely, clean, old house charm and detail, that is well decorated with sea side accents that provide a coziness..

Wonderful stay!
Delightful cottage on the sea. Near bridge for travel ease onto and off PEI. I felt it was centrally located to Green Gables, antique shops, lighthouses, and hiking trails. Travelled entire island except northwestern corner and easy to get back to the cottage at the end of the day. Delightful breakfast place called Anna's in nearby Crapaud which was on central routes used during the trip. I will definitely be back to the wonderful island and stay at this cottage.

Amazing!!!!
I did a lot of research to find the perfect property for our stay on PEI. It did not disappoint. The house is wonderful and the location is incredible. We walked just a little way along the beach and saw the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen in my life!!! We fell in love with the town Victoria that is about 10 minutes away. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it an 11. 😊

Beautiful sea cottage & beach access, amazing natural scenery.
Wonderful vacation property by the sea, the best beach access, most beautiful natural scenery on a quiet road with pastoral surroundings. Quick access to Victoria by the Sea and some quaint local stops such as a Cafe and Antique shops.
The property had all the amenities required plus some lovely extras - heated outdoor beach shower, propane seafood cooker etc. It was also beautifully decorated with art from the island, and very clean and well maintained.
Overall a wonderful PEI experience.

Hard to leave...
It was hard to leave Summerhaven. This place quickly became 'home' to our kids- they settled in and felt comfortable right away. Nothing can beat the view in the morning with a coffee in hand. The private beach was something we all had to visit everyday, multiple times, especially at low tide- a cove within a cove. We stayed here as a family of 5 (kids aged 9, 8, and 5), plus my parents, as a multi-generational family vacation. Endless beach combing, fox-spotting, walks, and swimming for us all. The house has so much charm, the rooms are comfortable, and Carol was so responsive to any questions we had. If we return someday, we will definitely be booking Summerhaven again! Thank you for hosting us, and the special touches to make us feel welcomed and valued as renters.

Lovely
Beautiful view. Lovely house,
Maison très agréable et confortable. Une vue magnifique sur la mer et les marées. Les chambres pourraient bénéficier de stores, car le soleil matinal réveille tôt. Cuisine très bien pourvue. Très satisfaite dans l'ensemble.

Summerhaven
This is a lovely property that made our vacation all the more special. It is right on the water, making for delightful views. The house is very well equipped and everything you need is there. At low tide there is plenty of beach to explore.
The location of the house makes for easy exploration of PEI, no matter which direction you go. Victoria by the Sea is close by with a number of great restaurants.
Lastly, dealing with VRBO and Carol, the owner, was very easy, and made for a worry free vacation.

A truly amazing experience
My family and I holidayed at Summerhaven for one week in June of 2016, it was a truly amazing experience! It was a real pleasure dealing with Carol; she was very responsive making our reservation and associated logistics a breeze. For a minor fee Carol accommodated our two well behaved but extremely “large” dogs allowing for the full family vacation experience. The location was simply brilliant, close to amenities, the extremely friendly neighbours and the house just simply charming. Truly a home away from home, the property balanced a classic cliff side home with every convenience including audio and visual systems with content to meet all tastes. Summerhaven delivered on everything it promised and our family will definitely return. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a family seaside getaway. Thanks Carol!

A Piece of Paradise!
This was not our first time on Prince Edward Island but it was our first time at Summerhaven, and on that part of the Island. It was clean and comfortable, and exactly as described. Although our time was short we enjoyed amazing views, gorgeous sunsets and at low tide the most beautiful beach. If you are thinking about visiting the Island and looking for a place to relax and unwind, away from city life, you should consider staying here. You won't be disappointed. We weren't!

My heart home . . .
Thanks Carol & Mike for sharing paradise. I wait all year for my escape to the island. The tides, red sand beach and Summerhaven! The details in every room make it feel like home to me. I know many times through the winter ahead I will close my eyes and feel myself sitting in front of the big picture window watching the ocean and it's changing faces. I always leave a piece of my heart at Summerhaven. I'll be back to look for it next year.* Cindy

Location, location, location
We just returned from a wonderful week at Summerhaven. Our sibling reunion wouldn't have been the same anywhere else. We enjoyed crisp mornings overlooking the ocean, long walks at low tide, amazing lobster dinners, bike rides along the country roads and much more. We were astonished everyday by the care the owners took to ensure everything we could need or want was there for us. This cottage has so much charm to enjoy on cool or rainy days, but on most days, the social spaces outside are perfect to gather everyone. The location was central enough that we were easily able to take in all the regions on the island. The pictures really don't do it justice... you will be pleasantly surprised.
