About this house rental
Our house on the beach has many attributes. These include the house’s seclusion (though still convenient to the Towns of Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor), its walking distance to the Park entrances, and its self-contained activities, especially around the beach.
Located on Peabody Drive between the villages of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor, this well designed, shorefront home offers dramatic views of Bear, Sutton and Cranberry Islands, from each of its three levels. The place offers multiple activities associated with a private and sheltered beach - bird watching, sparkly stone and shell hunting, private picnicking on the picnic bench, boat watching and star gazing from the four linked chairs (with tables), and swimming (if you don’t mind chilly waters). One can spend considerable time, both inside and out, just listening to the ocean sounds of buoys, lobster boats and lapping water. As the house looks out to both the Eastern and Western Way, guests view all kinds of boats - racing sailboats and large yachts, lobster boats and motorboats - traveling into Northeast or Seal Harbor. You can also launch your kayak from the sheltered beach. Local kayak rental companies offer deliver and pick up.
Seal’s Repose's location makes it extremely accessible to the offerings of Acadia National Park. The house is walking distance to three key entrances to the carriage paths and hiking trails. The first carriage path entrance is 1/4 mile up the road. A short distance further up is the entrance to Little Long Pond, with its special walking and viewing attractions. Little Harbor Brook Trail is another key Park entrance (150 yards down the road), offering one of the Park’s most beautiful trails. All of these entrances link to other Park carriage paths and trails enabling you to walk to points of interest without the hassle of finding a parking space. For example, Jordan Pond and the Jordan Pond House is a pleasant 2.5 mile walk. Furthermore, the Jordan Pond entrance to the Park and the Town's public, sandy beach are 1 mile away. The town of Northeast harbor is about a 1.5 mile drive, with its art galleries, shops, market, community house.
When indoors, the house itself is very accommodating. Relatively new for an island house, Its architecture, including size (about 2,000 square feet), three levels, and thoughtful layout, provides numerous social and work settings with ample privacy. It has two cable equipped TV's and Wi-Fi throughout. It is well insulated for a warm and comfortable year–round retreat, with double-pane windows and individual heating controls in every room.
The First Floor has a spacious Living and Dining area and porch that face the ocean. On this floor are also a private den with queen-sized, pullout couch and adjacent full bath and a full kitchen and utility room with all necessary appliances.
Second Floor has a large master bedroom with high, two story cathedral ceiling, king sized bed, sitting area and large picture windows. The Master Bath/Dressing Room is equipped with whirlpool tub, shower and walk-in closets. The second bedroom has two twin beds convertible to a king-sized bed, a bay window and an attached private bathroom.
Third Floor has a good-sized, study above Master Bedroom, commands a view of the entrance to Northeast Harbor and contains a double bed.
Comments from past guests are available on request.
Check-in and Check-out is Saturday. Please check with us before booking for any exceptions.

My family and I had a wonderful week at a beautiful place.
Loved the location--far enough away from Bar Harbor that you had some peace, but close enough to multiple areas of the park. A few mile drive to Jordan Pond.
Loved the view. Gorgeous view from the house/deck of the islands off the coast. Saw a seal swim by one day. Had a barred(?) owl in the yard one day as well.
Loved the fact you could walk out your door and hike trails which can connect to Acadia. We did that one day and hiked to Jordan Pond. (avoiding the parking nightmare over there...)
Loved the library in the house as well.
Communication was great--probably the best I have had throughout my bookings with VRBO.
Do bring bar soap, shampoo, and napkins/paper towels.
No need for coffee filters, as of the time we left there were about 50 ;)
Hope to be back some day!

The pictures can’t do this location justice. Wake up every morning to lightly rolling your waves and island views. A quick drive to Jordan Pond, Cadillac Mountain, and Bar Harbor. Mike was great and easy to work with!

My daughter and I wanted to enjoy a girls trip of hiking and relaxation. We certainly achieved both by staying here. From booking to checking out, everything went smoothly and efficiently. Communication was excellent, so much so, I feel I've made new friends. The house and location were perfect to explore everything Acadia has to offer. Crisp mornings started each day, sitting on the Adirondack chairs watching the tide go in out. We found some beautiful pieces of sea glass and listened to the harbor bell daily. If you are looking for peace and quiet, relaxation and tranquility then you'll find it here!

The location of the house was okay, not directly on the water but nice big windows in the living room brought in a lot of light and views of the water. The house was dated and carpets had spots and stains. The screen door on the slider actually fell off when we tried to use it because there was so much dirt and mold in the tracks. There was only a small charcoal grill and it was dirty!! Full of water from the rain and old charcoal. We cleaned the windows looking out on the water becasue they were so dirty, the toilet paper holder in the bathroom was coming out of the wall, the placemats on the dining room table were so outdated they were crispy and faded to a diffferent color. It was little things like this that turned us off but we had a good time and we made it work.

We loved the location of the Sea Harbor house. It was close to Bar Harbor and other smaller towns. We enjoyed the view from the house. Those big picture windows gave us a great view of the trees and the water. It was a very comfortable and clean house. We enjoyed our stay very much.

This was the perfect spot to unwind after a day in busy Bar Harbor or hiking in Acadia. The views are spectacular! We will be back!

A wonderful place to stay, my daughter worked remotely for 2 days and loved the upstairs office area, our family enjoyed walking the private cove beach area to start out our days and would return each day after our hikes and enjoy the house. Micheal was very responsive and helpful. Thank you again for allowing us to make your house our home for the week.

We loved the location. Peaceful with great views of the harbor. The home was comfortable and had everything we were looking for. Its location was removed enough from Bar Harbor to avoid the hustle/bustle but close enough to go in for dinner if we wanted to. Also, very close to other towns that have dining options. There are several off the beaten path hiking trails in close proximity that we really nice with varying degrees of difficulty. Enjoyed hiking without seeing other hikers. Beds were very comfortable. WiFi and the TV's worked well in the evenings when we were ready for inside entertainment.

We enjoyed our stay at Seal's Repose...a nice quiet spot to land at the end of a day on the trails or after the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor.

Once again we had an amazing stay. The location of this home is just the best. Access to park trails, Bar Harbor, great restaurants and more is right at your fingertips. The house is stocked with everything you could possibly need. Nothing beats waking up in the morning and having coffee with the Atlantic Ocean right in front of you.

The house was perfect for our group of 4 adults. The views from the house were just spectacular! We were in a great location - quiet area, but not too far away from all that we wanted to do. Loved our week there!

Stunning
Words can not adequately describe the feeling when we pulled in the driveway. The view simply takes your breath away. That is until you enter the house and realize the view from inside is even more amazing. And don’t get me started on the master bedroom. You don’t even need to lift your head off the pillow to see the view.
The house is open and filled with natural light. I was able to set up my sewing machine. And quilt away with the view right in front of me since we had a couple of cold rainy days. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need. We were so comfortable and immediately felt at home.
The house’s location is perfect. So close to Acadia National Park, beautiful hiking trails, Bar Harbor, golfing and so much more. Within 2 days of being there we cancelled our fall vacation and booked another week here in September!!!!!!!

Perfect location
This property is in a perfect location. So convenient to everything the Island has to offer. We spent our mornings having our coffee and evenings with our glass of wine on the private cobblestone beach. We hope to visit again.

The view and location can’t be beat!!!
I’m NGL this house was SO MUCH closer to everything a person travels there to do than we expected and still felt very private with your own private rock beach on the harbor. We saw seals and lobster fisherman. There are gorgeous views from the living room and master suite. Was comfortable for our family of two couples and two teenagers. Do note… the double bed is in a loft of the master… which is open. It would be perfect for your own kids, but they’re not private from each other. Mike was the best host I think we’ve ever had in our years of renting vacation homes. So helpful and attentive to the one issue we had with the TV in den… which even fixed we didn't watch to look out the windows. Sadly, it wasn’t very clean, but I’m a little particular. I did have to clean a little and air the place out… it must be the moist air up there musting it up. Febreeze and I was happy. Dated furnishing , but honestly this was the perfect harbor house to just experience Maine… 20 minutes to Cadillac Mountain… making that early drive to sunrise short enough to go experience it… and then look around and see the very same Bear island, off house beach, from the tip of Acadia! It truly was very cool. Look! I spotted our house kinda fun! Trails, seriously, steps from the property. What a special find! Thanks again for sharing such a great piece of Maine with us, Mike!

Base Camp
The location is great with a fabulous view!
Every morning and evening we relaxed by, or watching, the tides.
We kayaked a couple of times from our back door.
The location was good for us to do some activities, come back, and then go again. We did not feel comfortable walking or biking the road, though. It is a very busy, and often noisy, road.
The house is comfortable and has three levels with plenty of space. The kitchen is small, but the three of us managed to use it together.
The parking area appears small, but we managed three cars in and out with no problems.
There are some quirks with the house, but overall it was very comfortable and pleasant.
A very nice location for a relaxing vacation.

Family Vacation
Seal's Repose was a wonderful home base for us as we spent the week exploring Bar Harbor and parts of Acadia. Our whole family (myself, my husband, and our 2 year old son) enjoyed unhurried afternoons exploring low tide on the rocky beach behind the house- we found sea glass and plenty of sand dollars! The house was spacious and comfortable, and couldn't be better located to experience all that Mt Desert Island has to offer!

Location x3
Short walk to many trails. Beautiful views from the property - saw otters and many seabirds. Wifi/Internet sufficient for remote work (we were able to have several video calls at once). Short drives (<15min) to Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Kitchen had all of the equipment needed to cook for the week.

Great location and extremely private. The house has everything you need. We would return if the opportunity arises.

We loved our stay at Seal Repose; it was even better than the photos! The house was so big, bright and comfortable; it had everything we could possibly need! The water views from the house/yard were incredible and it was so nice to have our own private beach! We enjoyed sitting on the chairs near the beach - just gazing at the water, listening the soft sounds of the sea and walking on the rocks - so much that we didn’t even want to go anywhere! It was our own little slice of Maine and it was just what we needed!! I’m a photographer so I was thrilled to find such beautiful scenery right in the backyard! The house is fairly close to the street, but we barely ever heard any traffic. And to be honest, there really didn’t seem to be much traffic. We did some hiking and 2 of our favorite scenic trails that were close to the house were the Little Harbor Brook Trail and the Little Long Pond Trail. We also liked that the house was close to Acadia National Park and away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Habor, but close enough that it only took us 15-20 mins to get there. And Northeast Harbor (aka the quiet side) is close so we went there several times and picked up dinner. (The Colonel’s Restaurant and Bakery is our new favorite!) Mike (the owner) contacted us a few times, just to ensure that all was okay. We had no problems when we were there and didn’t need to contact him; it was great to know he was available if we did. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful home with us Mike, we hope to come back again someday!

Summer 2020
We loved it. The kids played on the beach, the lawn and the house. Adults enjoyed quiet and views of the water and Bear Island when the kids left. Overall an amazing place not to be missed.

Amazing house! Perfect Location!
This house is exactly as advertised. The location is beautiful and even nicer than the photos showed. For a landing place to enjoy Acadia, you cannot do better.
The owner was very responsive to all our questions about the house and area. Counting the den, you have three large, private bedrooms with their own baths. The loft is open to the master bedroom, so there is less privacy from that bedroom if you need a fourth bedroom but we did not.
It was so amazing to watch lobster boats empty their traps in the bay in front of the house and see sailboats sailing by. We strongly recommend this house and owner,

Return to Seals Repose
Our return trip to this house was as enjoyable as the last one. The view is spectacular from both upstairs and down. Clean, well kept, and comfortable. Even the rain did not damper our enjoyment. We love sitting by the beach listening to the waves and taking in that view. How fortunate we were to be there for the peak of the color. Look forward to next year.

Seal Harbor Joy
The home was perfect for two couples. We had the 2cd room set up as a king by combining the beds. It had a wonderful view out to the islands and ocean. It was located very close to great hiking to Jordan Pond and a long hike to Eagle Lake. The owner, Michael, was responsive and worked to let us in early. We had a great time there.

Amazing
What an awesome trip with so many great memories made for our family! The house was perfect for our needs and could not have asked for a better spot to stay. Super convenient to an Acadia entrance and many other great spots on Mt. Desert Island. As many beautiful places as there are to see, our favorite spot was right in the back yard of the house...a private rocky shoreline. At the house, we saw sand dollars, starfish, a couple seals, bald eagles. Absolutely breathtaking. We really can't wait to come back.
Mike (owner) was very kind, helpful, and responsive. Thank you again for sharing your home!

Beautiful view, everything we needed.
This house was perfect for our needs and the view was picture perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare a meal or two and the family room and living room were very comfortable. We even had a memorable time sitting on the beach watching the stars and listening to the waves. It’s location close to one of the Park entrances was very convenient.

Beautiful island, lovely home!
The home was perfect for our needs. We were traveling with my sister and her family, so there were four adults and two teens. The view from the living room and master bedroom is so pretty and allows you to enjoy the beautiful beach even while indoors. We had a question while we were there, and Michael could not have been more accomodating We loved Seals Repose and MDI. I look forward to returning!

Beautiful house in a great location!
Mike and Diane's house is beautiful! Couldn't get over the double-tall windows in the master bedroom overlooking the ocean - gorgeous. We were up here in October when the leaves were changing, and the park was at its finest. Highly recommended!

Fabulous location and views
This is a very spacious and comfortable vacation home with a fantastic setting and location. It is situated very close to the charming towns of Northeast Harbor and Seal Harbor, and very close to the south entrance to Acadia National Park. It’s a short 15- to 20-minute drive to Bar Harbor. You can also get to interesting trails and sites on the “quiet side” of the island in relatively short drives. The house is very close to Asticou Inn and the Thuya Gardens, both worth a visit or two.
Then there are the views—lovely, peaceful vistas of the water as well as access to a large stone beach. We rented kayaks for the week, and when the water was smooth, we could go out. It was a treat to be able to do that when the water and schedule allowed. We also had a fire on the beach but you definitely need a permit from the local police station, which we secured. Whether they grant you a fire or not is dependent on the amount of rain they’ve had.
The set-up of the home was very comfortable. We were there with another couple and each had their own space and bathroom. The master bedroom has spectacular views, and the second bedroom has nice side window views. There are also full, lovely views of the water from the living room, dining room, and back porch. We saw eagles, a seal, and a good amount of boat traffic, including some lobster boats. There is a third bedroom that is a den on the back of the house with a pull-out couch and access to a full bath.
We often went out exploring for the day and came home to eat dinner and gaze at the water. This place is a find and the owners are extremely nice to work with.

Very nice place for hiking
Just a few hundred feet of travel in either direction on Rt. 3 and you find yourself at either a carriage road (no bikes) or a hiking trail. Each of these options gets you into the park within an hour's hike, or other beautiful places outside the park on the network of trails that are open to the public. We could launch our kayaks right from the rocky beach which was nice. While we were there, Jose was in the Atlantic and there were high surf warnings, so not very inviting for kayaking and swimming. Lovely for watching boats and listening to the waves. The Burning Tree restaurant is very close and delicious. The cottage's three full baths were the crowning touch of a homey place in a lovely setting. Thank you to our hosts.
