Wanted to bring the family down to experience the wilds of the Everglades and spend some time in a part of Florida that hadn’t been turned into a tourist trap. Chokoloskee and Big Blue came through spectacularly.
The natural beauty and experiences here are something that will always stick with us. The host Walter was top notch in offering ideas of places to go and things to see, great in communicating with us. We had a snag with our plans on staying elsewhere the night before we were supposed to check in. Messaged Walter the morning before we were supposed to check in and he was able to get us in a day early which was a true lifesaver(wife was going to murder me if we’d have had to sleep in the car).
The home was clean, beds comfortable, apppliances all in good working order and new. Nothing but good things to say about our host and our stay. Wife and kids are already trying to plan out our return trip and we haven’t even made it home yet.
Location-wise, it’s just a short trip to Marco Island and Naples which were impressive to check out for a day but the real joy for us was the Everglades and the trails and two tracking available to see the abundant wildlife and forbidding beauty of the marshes and swamps. Fishing was excellent as well with both salt and freshwater options available everywhere.
Truly enjoyed everything about the trip.

Our stay was great. Walter, the property owner, was super to work with. He stayed in communication to make sure our stay was excellent. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed our stay in Chokoloskee. The trailer is clean and spacious. Walter was very helpful and easy to reach. It was great to get away from the city and explore the Everglades. We'll be back again!

Stayed for 11 days to do some fishing and get away from the northern US cold weather. Nice place for relaxing.

Clean, nicely furnished double-wide, with recent update including new kitchen appliances/large HDTV. Roomy with cold air and plenty of hot water. Comfortable beds with new mattresses. Close proximity to marina with deeded boat dock. Just right for some fishing in 10,000 islands or exploring the nearby area.

I had the pleasure of staying at this VRBO for a fishing trip in the Everglades, and it was truly an amazing experience. The location and the boat slip were both excellent, making it easy to explore both up and down the coast.
One of the standout features of this rental is the convenience it offers. The availability of gas, fresh shrimp, a small store, and a lift for getting your boat in and out of the water right at the docks was a big plus. It made our fishing trip hassle-free and enjoyable.
"Big Blue" exceeded our expectations. The property was clean, modern, and well-maintained. It had everything we needed for our stay, and more. The hosts, Walter and Margret, were exceptional. They were accommodating and made us feel very welcome.
In summary, if you're looking for a fantastic place to stay for a fishing trip in the Everglades, this VRBO is an excellent choice. The location, amenities, and the hospitality of the hosts all contributed to a memorable and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it.

This house was perfect for our needs, we came for the weekend to explore and fish. They have a slip you can leave your boat but we decided to just take the boat in and out everyday because of the tides. The boat ramp we used was just 10-15 min drive to Everglades City. The house was equipped with what you need to cook, like a home away from home. Walter was very communicative, we even chatted with him prior to our arrival.

This was the best hands down. Clean house very spacious we loved big blue!!! Don’t let the outside fool you ❤️ look forward to our next stay here Walter the owner was great and provided great hospitality. 500/500 recommend. First trip to 10,000 islands was amazing. The guys that help with the parkway marina and help out at havanna Cuba was amazing too awesome hospitality all the away around thank you for a great weekend!

Walter was great with the communications and information about the area. Was a perfect location to see the Southern Everglades. House was clean and had many amenities we used. It does need a little TLC but overall a good value for the price. Thank you Walter!!!!

My family of 5 enjoyed our stay at Big Blue in Chokoloskee Island. The host was very friendly and helpful. The accommodations are not high end, and there were a few things that could use updating but all the basics were covered and it is spacious with an excellent location! We had a fun family vacation.

My mother, kids and i decided on a spur of the moment trip to the Everglades. We weren't sure whether or not my husband would be able to fly in or not so we wanted to make sure we felt like we were in a safe area and that the accommodations were clean. We came across this place and the reviews were good so we decided to book it for 3 nights. The property manager was extremely helpful and made great recommendations on what restaurants and activities were in the area. The trailer is older but very clean and had plenty of room for the 5 of us. As it turned out, my husband did fly in and we picked him up on our way through Fort Meyer. The beds were as comfortable as any of the hotels we stayed in on the trip. The ONLY issue we had was the heavy use of febrez or some type of airfreshener. My 9 yr old and I bpth have severe allergies and even the slightest trace of any frangrances cause immediate allergy flare ups. When we first arrived i honestly didn't know if we would be able to stay. The bedding, towels, washrags, etc.. and it was in the air really heavy. We had to wash the towels, bedding, etc.. a few times before my son and i could use them or sleep in the beds. We also had to take quite a few allergy meds while we were there. When the air-conditioning kicked on it did help to clear the air some and it was more bearable the next day. So, if you have allergies you might speak with the property manager ahead of time to prevent the use of those products. Great location too!

This was a perfect fit for me and my family. The house was comfortable and clean and large enough for our group of 5 adults. The neighborhood was great and we enjoyed walks and sunset watching. Three of our group went for a 3 day kayaking and camping trip on nearby islands, a big success. Walter was incredibly helpful and responsive to questions I had in advance. I would definitely stay here again.

We arrived late and found the unit to be exactly as described and very welcoming. The host Walter was such a font of information and spot on for guidance on things to do and places to eat. Very prompt to answer even the most minute questions. If we hadn't been moving to visit the other side of Florida we well could have stayed the entire 8 days we visited the lovely state.

Friendly, informative host provided recommendations for places to visit, eat and fish.
Property was spacious and had a well appointed kitchen. Thanks Walter and Margery

Rented this place for a boating trip with my dad and brother and we had a blast! The unit is located on chokoloskee island about 2-3 short blocks from the water.
We trailered my brothers boat out there and there’s plenty of space for a car and trailer at the unit. It also came with a dock slip which was great so we didn’t have to trailer our boat every day before and after fishing. We even caught our dinner one night which always makes the trip even better. Walt the Host was extremely communicative and answered all my questions well in advance. The unit was clean and had everything we needed to cook, shower and do our laundry. Overall, great spot if you want to get out in 10,000 islands to explore and fish. Would highly recommend!

We knew what to expect from Big Blue as we have stayed here previously. The place accommodates our family well, and has all the accommodations you need to be comfortable during your stay. Great access to fishing and all you need for your trip. Will be back again!

This is our second time to stay at "Big Blue" and we had a great time! Our host has been very accommodating in working with us and our schedules. I hesitate to say to much for fear that the property will become the favorite of others and we won't be able to get a reservation in the future.

"Big Blue" was the perfect property for our Everglades vacation. We came to Chokoloskee in order to have a central location to experience both the Everglades and the 10,000 Islands.
The home was exactly as advertised, with ample room for two couples with children or even three couples if one couple is willing to sleep separately. The kitchen is a nice size and well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc. The pantry items were ok. Plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, etc, located in the laundry room. Full size laundry, refrigerator, stove, and microwave. The deck outside is wonderful, seating is comfortable and it is nicely shaded even in the late afternoon.
The location in town is within walking distance of everything! The primary reason we chose this location was that they provided a boat dock. It worked perfectly for us. Be aware of the tides. There is about a 4-5 foot difference and you need to pay attention when tying up at the dock. Also, make sure you are familiar with how low the tide is before you put in if you are a larger vessel. We have a 20' flat bottom skiff and had no problem. It is imperative to have maps for the area if you do not have a local with you!
"Big Blue" is close enough to the Everglades that we spent two days hiking different areas and even had lunch in Miami before returning home. Many great parks to see different wildlife and habitat.
Overall, our stay in Chokoloskee was outstanding. Our host was very attentive and happy to help with any questions or concerns. And the neighbors and locals were fun to meet and get to know over the week. I would definitely recommend staying at "Big Blue". You wont be disappointed!

“Big Blue” was clean, roomy and comfortable. Walking distance to the Smallwood Store museum and Havana Cuban restaurant. The owner, Walter was a wealth of information about the area and things to do. Admittedly, we were a little skeptical at first about staying in a mobile home but once there we were very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again. Walter was a great host!
