About this house rental
'Spectacular!' 'Awesome!' 'Unique.' 'Beautiful.' 'Fun.' These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the unspoiled natural setting for our vacation home, Sea Forest. Located on Cowpens, a small private island accessible by causeway, the house offers stunning views of marsh, creek and the Atlantic Ocean.
The island itself, with fifteen homes including ours, is situated just behind Edingsville Beach, an uninhabited barrier beach just north of Edisto Beach. The setting is secluded, relaxing, and peaceful.
Our home is designed to maximize enjoyment of its beautiful marsh and ocean views and abundant wildlife. The main level has an open floor plan with living area, dining room, kitchen, and master suite. In the summer you may enjoy the cool ocean breezes, or if you prefer, the air conditioning. In the colder months, the fireplace adds to the cozy comfort provided by central heating.
Large picture windows across the front and front-sides of the house provide unobstructed views of the ocean, creek and marshes. The outside deck provides a perfect seating area to enjoy the afternoon sea breezes while you watch the pelicans, great blue herons, egrets, wood storks and other shore birds fly overhead or feed in the marsh grasses a few feet away.
The back screened porch provides for panoramic views of the beautiful creek, marsh and gorgeous sunsets while you enjoy the peace and quiet. The additional fireplace on the porch provides the luxury of a cozy fire to gather 'round on chilly afternoons or evenings with friends and family, even when it's raining outside!
The master suite offers a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a deck overlooking the creek, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. There are two bedrooms upstairs. One has a double bed and a small deck overlooking the creek and marsh. The other bedroom has a double and a single bed which is perfect for families with young children. There is also a fold-up cot for an additional guest.
A covered fixed pier with floating dock is on the creek behind the house. The dock provides additional 360-degree marsh/creek views and access to the creek for small boats (kayaks, jon boats, etc.), crabbing, fishing, and swimming, This is a wonderful swimming 'hole' and great for lazy afternoons spent relaxing in and on the water. There's a hammock to enjoy the breezes while you read or nap --- the perfect way to while away the hours on vacation.
The creek is navigable for small boats even at dead low tide (about 2 feet of water at the dock at low tide), and provides easy access to Edingsville Beach, Botany Bay Beach, and Frampton Inlet. (OWNER SOMETIMES CAN ASSIST WITH LAUNCHING AND SECURING YOUR BOAT AT OWNER DOCK) Edingsville Beach has historic significance because it was the established beach community in the 1800's for the Edisto Island plantation owners until it was completely destroyed by the hurricane of 1893.
For the serious beachcomber, pieces of fine china and old wine bottles from the old Edingsville community can still be found on this beach today. Both Edingsville and Botany Bay Beaches are literally covered with numerous seashells and fossils, including sharks' teeth, and these beaches are prime locations for swimming, walking, sunning, and surf fishing. It is requested by creek property owners that jet skis not be used on the creek.
In addition to boat access to Edingsville Beach, one can walk or bike from our home to the beach which is a distance of about a half mile through a private residential development. For other beach access, we also use the public path options at Edisto Beach.
Sea Forest is located about five miles from Edisto Beach with its restaurants, gift shops, grocery and hardware stores, golf course, tennis courts, churches, and special community events. It is about a forty-five minute drive south of romantic Charleston, SC, known for its outstanding gourmet restaurants, chic King Street shops, and historic sites and homes.
Yes, Sea Forest really is 'unique!' It's a comfortable home in an incredibly beautiful setting. There is lots to do and see, and yet it's so relaxing that you might not want to do anything at all!

We had a wonderful, restorative visit. We love this house and location so much and have stayed here several times. The creek and dock are perfect; and the walk out to the beach is beautiful. The hosts are consistently helpful and kind.

This is our second VRBO experience in the Charleston area and enjoyed the home, tall trees, ocean and creek view. We loved the uncrowded beaches and small town making parking and beach access easy. Visited the Museum and the Serpentarium and would recommend both.
We preferred the beach at Jeremy Cay for its shelling and tide pools. I would sure return

We really enjoyed our stay. The sunrises and sunsets from the house were amazing. The large sliding windows on the front of the house let in the breeze coming off the water. The owners guestbook and photo collage on the island and their family history was really cool. The only downside was the inability to ride a golf cart to Eddingsville Beach, but we made do with bicycles and kids carts. The privacy and seclusion was great.

Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us again.

A beautiful setting for a relaxing get-away. Sunrise over the ocean from the house and a sunset over the marsh from the dock. Couldn’t be more perfect.

My family and I adore staying here! We love the cozy feeling of the house and the incredible natural setting. We saw dolphins in the canal as well as the bald eagle who nests in the area. We enjoyed collecting many beautiful seashells on the nearby beach! The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. Looking forward to when we can return to this very special place!

Our stay at Sea Forest was just what we were looking for. We loved the view from the well placed rocking chairs, in front of the picture window, looking out at the marsh and ocean and watching the amazing transformation as the tides changed. Mike was responsive to our questions and answered them promptly. We had a great time and hope to return next year.

Beautiful property inside and out! Owners were great and easily reachable if needed, and the property had all the extras we needed! Can't beat the views or the quick drive to the beach! 100% would stay here again!

Exactly the escape we were looking for. As others have commented, the beach is about a 20-minute walk away, but it’s worth it - best shell collection we’ve ever come across, better than Sanibel/Captiva (Florida beach famed for its shells). And you pretty much have the beach to yourself, as the only access is the private road serving these two communities (maybe 50 homes total) - we biked up and down the beach with our dog each day. The best part is the unobstructed coastal breeze - nothing but marsh between you and the ocean. A few older reviews mentioned bugs - seems that the owner found the right pest control service, as we had zero inside the house. Would not hesitate to recommend or come back!

Just as it was the first time my husband and I visited, the Lumpkin home was terrific. We brought the 3 kids. They had a blast kayaking and swimming from the dock. It was a little rainy and there were gale force winds on two of the days, but that didn't stop us from walking to the beach and collecting the most amazing shells and fossils! If you love nature, just book it now. ♥️

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sea Forest! In fact, we rarely left the area. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. Best of all it was so comfortable that we were able to relax. Just sitting in the rocking chairs, surrounded by large windows, while watching the sunrise every morning, was heaven. Not to mention the sunsets from the back dock. On the few cloudy mornings we would spend time on the screened in porch with a nice fire in the fireplace. You never knew what neat wildlife you might see out the windows. A bald eagle was a frequent visitor. We also saw osprey, hawks, egrets and herons. Plus, the birdfeeders attracted many different birds. We never knew that bluebirds liked beachy areas or that the yellow rumped warblers would be so plentiful. Edingsville Beach is about a 16 minute brisk walk away. That beach is a hidden gem. It is one of the prettiest we have seen and more shells than you could ever imagine. The best part is that there were hardly any other people on it. It was so very quiet. We walked there 2-3 times a day. This house is located perfectly for day trips to Beaufort/Hunting Island, Magnolia Gardens and Charleston to just name a few. We could go on and on. We definitely recommend the Sea Forest and plan on going back! Thanks so much to the Lumpkin Family for opening their wonderful home to us!

We loved the charm and location of this home! We stayed over Christmas so it was chilly, but the fireplace made the home very cozy. We had a great time walking the beach and collecting sea shells. The sunrises and sunsets can’t be missed. The view out the front of the house has amazing views of the ocean. Communication with the owners was great and the home had a well supplied kitchen. Would not hesitate to book again.

This property is amazing. There aren't many places in the world left like this island, where nature is untouched. If you want seclusion, a beautiful beach, and access to inshore creeks, this place is for you. We caught many red fish from our skiffs, and also caught plenty of crabs for a crab boil. Everything here is on tide time. It feels far away from the usual hustle and bustle. The home was immaculate. The dock was perfect. We'll be back. Thank you, Lumpkin family!

We loved our stay. We saw lots of wildlife some in our group even saw dolphins while canoeing in the creek. The one and only complaint which has nothing to do with the house, is the distance you have to walk for beach access. It's a good 20 minutes walk 30 minutes if you stroll. Again it has nothing to do with the house, but some review had put that it was a short 5 minute walk and that is not accurate. As a whole we loved our stay.

Fantastic neighborhood... extremely peaceful and quiet. The house has stunning views we could of stayed in the rocking chairs all day long. We loved the covered dock. The house was clean just we did have a problem with roaches. Edingsville Beach is gorgeous and covered in shells.... just a little further walk than expected.

Lovely home, very comfortable, great views, wonderful location. The neighborhood is quiet and secluded. One of my adult children said to me the first night we were there that "it feels like someone just picked me up and dropped me in paradise." Communication with the owner was fast and easy. Highly recommend staying here. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful home with unbeatable views!
We have been visiting Edisto several times every year since 2011. Sea Forest is definitely one of our favorite stays! It is a cozy, clean, charming home. The kitchen is stocked and the beds are very comfortable. Most of our time was spent out on the dock and in the kayaks fishing. The front and back views are spectacular! Thank you for sharing your home with us. It is a a true gem😊

Can't wait to go back!!!
This place is absolutely incredible. This trip was our second time visiting the "Sea Forest" property. It was so hard to leave after 5 nights there, which is a sign of a good time by all! We spent most of our time on the covered dock, watching sunrises and sunsets, fishing, shrimping, watching wildlife and just enjoying being together in such a beautiful setting. The house if very close to Botany Bay and just a quick drive to Edisto beach, where the boys enjoyed boogie boarding!
The house has a beautiful beach view as well, with bird-watching galore! The house has everything you need and the Lumpkins are the best hosts!
Thanks for another wonderful family vacation at "Sea Forest". We can't wait to go back!

Special Hideaway
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The location was amazing, with a beautiful, secluded beach nearby. We loved the wildlife around and the views to the bird feeders. The house was very comfortable. One note to future guests: The listing indicates that you should bring your own bedding, towels, and TP. We also recommend bringing paper towels for the kitchen.
