About this cottage rental
45 Mary Ann Drive:
At "Little House by the Ferry" you can relax in hammocks and hear the ferry boats tooting their horns coming and going out of the harbor. Located near Silver Lake Harbor where all the restaurants and shops are located, you will find it easy to stroll or bike from this convenient location.
This charming 3 Bedroom (plus bonus bunk room) 1 Bath cottage has undergone a complete renovation and addition during the Spring of 2009. You will love the professionally decorated cottage decor. There are 2 hammocks for relaxing, a fenced-in dog yard, dishwasher and washer and dryer. While there is only one full bath, there is an exceptional outdoor shower with a star-filled sky above. You will never want to shower indoors again.
The large screened-in porch has vaulted ceilings and big views of open space which makes for a very private setting.
Bonus Items: We have bikes, sand chairs, beach umbrellas and boogie boards you are welcome to use. These items are not a part of the lease because we cannot guarantee they will all be in good working order at the time of your stay. It seems like there is always a bike or two out of commission at any given time.
Most of Ocracoke Island is owned by the National Park Service and there are no cottages located at the beach front. Little House by the Ferry is located in the village about a mile and a half from the beach. If you have a four wheel drive you can drive out on the beach. You can also drive or ride bikes to the life guarded beach and walk over the dunes to the beach.
Our cottage is now on city water which provides great water pressure and makes the our shower absolute heaven!
Maximum of 6 people.
Maximum of 3 parking spaces.
Maximum of 1 pet with $100 Pet Fee. (well behaved please)
Check-in time is 3:00 PM and Check-out time is 11:00 AM.
We hope you love "Little House by the Ferry" as much as we do.

We had a wonderful time and this house was beautiful! The outdoor covered porch was perfect for lunch and dinner with friends. The games were great for the day it rained! We will definitely be back!

Little House by the Ferry is our favorite place to stay on Ocracoke Island! It is tucked away on a quiet street near Silver Lake. You would never know you are so close to all the shops and restaurants. We especially love the porch and the outside shower!

Great island, great cottage - we’ll be back! We really appreciated the owner’s perspective planning wise given the nearby tropical storm during our stay.

The cottage is super cute and was perfect for our family of six. I thought there was only one twin bed listed when booking, but there are actually two queens, one full, and three twins. It was so nice not to hear kids complaining about having to share a bed with a sibling! The home is beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and couches. My husband and daughter loved the screened-in porch and spent hours there. The kitchen is small but nicely equipped with one big exception. There were only four bowls so we ended up buying some styrofoam bowls at the grocery store - not a huge deal. It would have been nice to have more plates too. My family also liked riding the bikes. We’ve stayed in lots of beach houses, and this cottage was the first to have any bikes maintained as well as rental bikes. The cottage is close to shops so it was easy to bike or walk most places.

We loved everything about this adorable cottage! It was well stocked and had lovely decor. There are four bedrooms and a fenced in yard for dogs. The screened porch is prefect for morning coffee and listening to the birds. There is privacy all around and in such a great location.

This was our fourth stay at this location and there are so many reasons we keep coming back! We love the feel of this home, the location, and everything about it. We noticed that the bathroom has been updated since our last visit and it’s looking especially nice. This stay was every bit as lovely as our past stays. I’m sure we will be back!

Would like to have had more information about the amenities, such as what type of coffee maker and I would have liked to be reminder regarding sheets size and towels need.

This cottage was perfect for our little family getaway at Thanksgiving. It’s well laid out, has all you need to be comfortable and relax in a nature surround environment. Will definitely recommend to friends and return for a second stay. The wind was blustery during our stay, but we were toasty warm the entire time.
Look forward to a warm weather visit so we can enjoy the lovely screened porch.

The house was lovely, your typical, Ocracoke cottage. My fault, in not paying better attention to the description of the house as the map is misleading.. Not the house that i was expecting and the owner never responded to my email. Its all good.. Absolutely loved the screen porch.

Cute house, lovely screened porch and comfortable couches. Even the bunk beds were comfortable. House could use a good deep clean but on the surface it was fine. And maybe I missed it but we could only locate a few drinking glasses other than coffee cups so visitors may want to get some disposable cups. If you live remodeled older homes you will love this one 😊

Weather was not what we hoped for, did not expect all the construction noise. House very nice, everything we needed was within walking distance. Thank you.

During our visit, Tropical Storm Ophelia came on shore with threats of high wind gusts and storm surge. We were very comfortable in The Little House by the Ferry! The neighborhood was a quiet area which we liked. We felt safe on the high lot and being over by the ferry. The fenced in backyard was a real plus with a pet. Beds and furniture were cozy and comfortable. A great getaway and adventure!

This house was perfect for our first trip to Ocracoke. It has everything you need. The little kitchen is very well equipped. We enjoyed everything about the island and the location. Everyone we encountered was so nice and friendly.

This was the perfect rental property for our family of 5 plus dog. It would actually be good for even bigger family as we had an empty bedroom. The owner has everything you need and makes packing easier. Boogie boards, skim boards, surf boards, chairs, cooler, outside bar area, outside shower, tools, washer dryer, kitchen utensils. Its a small kitchen but it was fine for us because we didn't do alot of cooking. We would definitely go back and rent here again.

The Little House By the Ferry was perfect for myself and my family. We were able to use the bikes every day and loved how it was so close to Smacnally’s while still feeling tucked away. Even got to take a short little walk to the fig festival. Would definitely stay again! The only suggestion/request I have is for sheets and towels to be provided. It wasn’t a massive hassle, just would’ve been way more convenient.
Thanks LHBTF!

First time at Ocracoke and it was a good experience. The little house by the ferry was not exactly new and up to date but it was clean and good for a beach house. It was a hassle to have to bring bedding with us but understand why it was needed. If your looking for laid back atmosphere and family friendly, it’s a great choice.

At Little House by the Ferry was easy to access all of Ocracoke: tours, parasailing, and the beach! We rode bikes everyday and used beach umbrellas for shade when we drove. The house was relaxed and was a great place to read and chill before our next adventure. (Great place to nap!)

Great house. We love it. Close to town but far enough way that it’s quiet. Very clean and was perfect for 4 women. Plenty of space to spread out and have time to ourselves. Bikes are in working order but need some wd40. I had bike oil and oiled them some but could use more. We are planning on booking again next year.

The cottage was as listed. The Ferry was cancelled due to high winds and the owner was very nice to let us stay longer

We can see that this cottage was likely once quite lovely and we appreciated such a large space in paradise. However, it appears that the property has been neglected. When we entered the hallway smoke detector was chirping. Since we could not find a battery, we removed it. When we went to leave the cottage, we discovered that the exterior door would not lock. Though the owner responded, the problem was not resolved. The hot water in the only bathroom had been turned off because it leaked and the toilet did not flush as the water tank was empty. There was black mold under the sink and on the window in the shower. The heating vent in the bedroom blew directly on our faces while we tried to sleep. As a tip to other renters, you will need to bring your own linens and bath towels. We missed this in the description but, for the cost of the property, were quite surprised to find these things missing.

We so enjoyed our stay at the little house by the ferry, just the right size layout decor and cottage accommodations. Friendly & helpful owner/prop manager, thanks so much!!
