There were 5 of us girls going away for an over due long weekend. We were so excited for rest and relaxation, but this just wasn't the place for us. The lake is gorgeous and the views are fantastic, but the accommodations were definitely not what we were expecting. It definitely felt more like glamorous camping than a house. We did not feel that the description on the listing or the photos of the accommodation accurately reflected the actual place.
All of the spaces are very disjointed. There is a separate outdoor entrance to the kitchen, as well as each of the bedrooms. There is no living room, indoor dining room or space for guests to hang out other than the covered deck. The deck is also very nice, but is the only place to gather. The kitchen was very bare bones and also had large ants on the counters, many worms all over the floor and there was a large vent above the microwave that was leaking a significant amount of water onto the floor and into the microwave.
There were a lot of bugs EVERWHERE. Obviously being in nature, near a lake we expected some, but it was really cumbersome and made the weekend less than ideal. We all saw bugs in the beds, bedrooms, bathroom, etc. When I went to shower there was a massive centipede in the bottom of the shower. I grabbed a shoe, smashed it and flushed it. I went back and turned on the water to the shower and a worm shot out of the shower head. I turned off the shower and decided I was better off without a shower.
Again, the views are great and the lake felt amazing, but I wouldn't want to stay in this particular place again. It just wasn't for us and felt very over priced for what you get. Overall very bummed as 3 of us are moms of young children and were so excited about getting away with the girls for a weekend.

The house was clean and very well kept. The host was friendly and readily available should we have needed her. The porch, dock and fire pit area was perfect for outdoor fun. Filled propane tanks and fire wood available prior to check in was a very thoughtful touch. The only problems we encountered were: 1) access to the dock was dangerous. You had to balance down a board that was slick the day it rained. 2) there were 2 metal poles in the ground for securing the dock that were hard to see an night and a potential danger if fell on. 3) on the one day it rained you had to walk through the rain to access a bathroom or bedroom because those walkways were not covered. Overall a lovely home with great outdoor space. Enjoyed our stay here and plan on staying again. Thank you to the host.

Friendly host. The outdoor area was perfect to enjoy and have fun outside. Loved that there were no tvs in the home. Clean and well equipped. A few minor inconveniences, but manageable and didn’t cause problems. Overall wonderful, fun time with family. Plan to stay again.

Wonderful place
This is the neatest set up ever. We loved the place. The beds were super comfortable and it had everything we needed for the weekend. The owner was very responsive and answered any questions we had. The kitchen had plenty of pots, pans and utensils. The Blackstone grill on the deck was great also. There were a ton of chairs on the deck and down in the yard at the fire pit. The walk to the dock was better than most other places we have rented on lakes. We would definitely stay there again.

Great Family Experience
My family enjoyed everything about this home. We all loved the outdoor living area, we all actually “ hung out” together. During the day everyone played in the water. The kids would swim most of the day, and fish in the evening. The black stone grill was used daily, it was great. The location of the cabin is perfect, secluded and peaceful. The view from the deck was amazing. Overall it was a perfect getaway. We will definitely book again.

Rustic House-great time
The property to the lake was perfect. A little steep, but nothing terrible. The outdoor shower, was AWESOME! The large patio was great to hang out under and eat with everyone. The separate unit was great as well to have a little privacy. No TV, which was nice to unplug for the weekend. When we first got there, we were surprised to find no living room, but it was fine. Didn't really need it anyway with being out on the lake the whole time we were there. 4 bedrooms and the separate unit had their own bedroom/bathroom. I was a little confused because when we called before, we asked if we needed our own bedding for the separate unit and they told us yes, but it had a bed and everything in it. IF you are looking for a quiet and rustic getaway, this is the first house for you. The water was amazing! Thank you for the stay!

Great property right on the lake. The blackstone makes cooking a dream. The fire pit area was wonderful. Property requires visitors to climb stairs and hills so keep that in mind when booking. There is no other family gathering area except the covered porch so plan clothing accordingly. A patio heater for fall would be a great addition to the property. Would recommend to family and friends!

This rustic Rutledge property provides the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors with beautiful view of Cherokee Lake. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and the kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need for making meals. The black stone grill was excellent when cooking for group as well as having 2 coffee pots!! If you want to camp but want the comfort of home, this is the place to stay! Thank you Butch & Janie for sharing your amazing property, we are thankful and grateful to have stayed there. It truly is a little piece of heaven!!

Wonderful lake to have access to. The layout of the cabin(s) is a little different, but it worked. A little tree trimming and some maintenance the place would be even better. The owners made checking in a breeze and answered all our questions. Nice and peaceful!

Perfect Family hide-a-way
My family (2 adults, 2 teens and 1 toddler) stayed at this wonderful lake house for a week. The build of the house makes it feel like summer camp and it did not disappoint. The house has 4 large sized bedrooms and each has a queen bed. There is plenty of space in each room to have a twin air mattress on the floor if needed. The main structure of the lake house is an "A" frame with a 2 bedroom studio type apartment on top and full bath and shower. One of the rooms above the "A" frame has a lake view and in my opinion is the best room to stay in at this location. The lower unit of the "A" frame is a full functioning kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and Dish Washer. The kitchen has sliding doors for easy access and was in a central location for everyone. The bottom of the "A" frame is joined by a HUGE covered deck with multiple pick-nick tables, chairs, a large bar and 4 ceiling fans to keep you cool and the bugs away. The covered deck comes equipped with a large Blackstone griddle and large propane grill. The Blackstone was amazing and we made most of our meals on it each day. The property has an adjacent connected building that has a full bedroom and half bath. This is where we stayed and the AC was ice cold and the bed was very comfortable. There is also a 2nd half bath that is accessible from the porch of this building for anyone on the deck that needs to go to the restroom. It makes it very convenient for guests that do not want to go through someones bedroom to use the bathroom. The last and 4th bedroom of this property is attached to the bottom side of the "A" Frame and also contains the washer and dryer. This is probably the least desirable of the rooms because of the washer and dryer, but it was also a very nice room with a comfortable queen bed. The house also has an outdoor shower, and this is really the only part of the entire house or set up that I would not give an A+ review on. The shower head is very small and the water only comes out of the outside holes of the shower head. My daughter tried to shower in this and could not wash her hair because while there was enough water pressure, not enough water could reach her head to get the shampoo completely out. Replacing this with a $20 dollar larger shower head would easily fix this problem. The house also has wifi and we brought our Smart TV to watch Netflix movies on the deck in the evening and also our "Alexa" to play music. The dock was perfect for swimming and fishing!

Perfect Lakeside Retreat!
Everyone who was in our party rates this right up there with our beach vacations! Gathering and eating meals together on the covered patio in between water activities was so nice and convenient. We hardly had to leave the property during our stay. We used the dock and firepit area every day/evening. Hoping to go back next year!

Dream Vacation
This place is amazing. It was in a perfect location steps away from the lake. Everyone one of us caught fish. Big fish, right off the dock at the house. The house was clean with everything you needed. The fire pit area is where we spent alot of time in the evenings laughing and talking about funny stories from our family. The grill and the griddle were a nice touch. The Griddle was the bomb. We cooked almost every meal on it. I came home and bought one. We rented a pontoon boat at the boat dock just around the corner, the folks there were extremely helpful, and spent the day riding around the most amazing lake. There was so much beautiful wildlife. The owners were so easy to work with. Do yourself and your family a favor and stay here and make some memories.

Best Weekend Ever
Beautiful place. Kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Property owners were very pleasant. Everything was clean. Gilmore dock was not far away and had parking for our boat trailers. I love that there’s no place to socialize inside, it forces you to enjoy the outdoors. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to anyone.

A Diamond in the Rough
Our kids quote at the end of the vacation "That was our most favorite vacation ever"
My family of six which included my wife and I, our 10, 12, and 22 year old daughters and my oldest daughter's boyfriend along with a friend family of 4 stayed at this property. Instructions prior to arrival were clear and concise and our questions we had ahead of time were answered promptly. We brought along our 2 Waverunners and were relieved that there was a dock at the property that worked perfect for them as well as the marina that was located inside the cove where the property is located. The marina staff even let us store our trailer there for free. We highly recommend you do not attempt to drive any large trailers down the driveway to the property as it is fairly narrow and steep with a tight turn at the end. Upon arrival the property and housing was very clean and organized. The bedding was neat and clean as well. Having a stocked kitchen, with a stove, microwave, gas griddle, and gas grill let us with plenty of options for meals and we never once went out to eat. I truly loved the griddle on the deck and used it every day. As others have mentioned the simplicity of the property and lack of televisions or internet was a true blessing in disguise as our children all learned new card games and we played a lot of board games that prompted a lot of family interaction and bonding that we had not seen in a long time. The layout of buildings includes 2 structures; the main house and the side house. In the main house is a the main living quarters upstairs which has an entrance off of the upper parking area and includes 2 separate bedrooms with queen beds. The larger of the 2 has room for another queen size air mattress on the floor. In this area is a shared hall with plenty of room of luggage or more sleeping arrangements if needed, a sink and mirror and bathroom behind a door with a toilet and shower. On the lower level of the main house is a kitchen which is it's own room with sliding glass doors leading out onto the deck and then a 3rd bedroom which is separate and includes a queen bed and a washer, dryer, and a door that leads to the side of the deck facing the side house. The side house has a community bathroom and another bedroom with a queen bed and it's own half bath. The outdoor shower is behind the side house. The lake access is a little steep but the reward is an amazing lake with beautiful views and plenty of room to play. We highly recommend this!!!

Great property and hosts
Butch and Janie have a great piece of property here. Overlooks the lake for a great sunrise view. Fire pit is a very spacious area with supplied fire wood. Dock works well, we put our boat in at Gilmore Boat Docks which is about a 5 min drive and a 1 min boat ride to the cabin. Note that you'll need to put your boat in and leave your trailer at Gilmore before you come down to the cabin as the road to the cabin will not accommodate a trailer. Ice and gas are very reasonably priced here. They also have a fairly well stocked beer selection.
They have pretty much everything you'll need with a well stocked kitchen. Also on the deck are a grill and a griddle. We used the griddle for every meal, very convenient.
The outdoor shower is very convenient and pretty cool! It has an instant hot water heater hooked up to it so you can shower to your hearts content. We had a small issue with the water heater which Butch rectified over the phone very quickly.
All of the living space is outside, we had a very severe storm come through including hail and we were fine under the covered deck. Bugs weren't too big of an issue as the deck has 4 ceiling fans and 2 air movers on each side of the deck. We met a couple of the neighbors who were very friendly. The lake had almost no traffic so it was really fun and stress free to be out wakesurfing. It seems to be almost exclusively a fishing lake, with bass boats around the edges of coves and islands. The attendant at Gilmore did mention that there are a lot of unmarked hazards in the lake so to be sure to pay special attention when the lake isn't full pool. However the water levels were fine for us in June.
Loved it!

Wonderful experience!
I fell in love with this place. We had 4 couples in our group. We appreciated the fact that the home didn’t have internet or TV. It gave us an opportunity to enjoy our friends, truly disconnect & only used our cellular phones to take pictures & stream music. We had a beautiful weekend weather wise. If we were not boating we stayed under the covered deck during the day & by the fire at night. We had two boats so the private, nice size dock set this property apart from the rest. We also loved the close proximity to Gilmore Dock to get onto the water. Super great service there as well! The outdoor grill was awesome for breakfast & we even put some thick cut steaks on it one night. I promise if you like being outdoors, want to truly connect with family or friends this is the place for you!

Beautiful in every way!
Loved the property! Beautiful view, easy access to nearby marinas. We have 4 family’s staying and it was the perfect amount of space! We enjoyed many nights by the fire pit or sitting and watching the sunrise over the lake! The lake itself was very calm and not overcrowded! We did two half day boat rentals from Huffs Greman Creek Marina which is only a 5-10min drive! Our family defiantly will be back!

Excellent weekend getaway
The cabin was spotless and we enjoyed being there. The cabin is totally geared to lake living and boating. We came late in the season and without a boat, however it was so very relaxing to disconnect and enjoy just being still. We would like to rent this cabin again.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.
