We had a family reunion. It was perfect size for our family. Everyone had a bed. We had a lovely time together lots of room for playing games and eating at the lovely tables indoors and out. Lots of games to play. Grandkids had a ball. Yuba river felt really good, hot days. Air conditioning was awesome. wild turkeys were cool. Came to visit in the yard one day. lovely hikes down to the creek

Lots of room, great hiking from the house, two areas where groups of people could comfortably congregate. There were two kitchens! The family staying downstairs (one of my sons and his partner and my brother-in-law and his daughter) stored their drinks and snacks downstairs. There is an outside entrance to the downstairs family room and kitchen.
If you fill all the bedrooms, the bathroom situation will be a little tight. There is one full bath in the master, another full bath upstairs that the other three bedrooms share, a third full bath upstairs between the kitchen and the fifth bedroom upstairs and a full bath downstairs for the two bedrooms to share. The house easily accommodated 14 people. Several of the generation in their 20's and 30's hiked down to the river. Deer and turkeys came right up to the house and hung out. There was even a baby deer on the property. The property manager was friendly, responsive and very accommodating, offering to find vendors for the various activities we planned. This is a very comfortable house with all the amenities.

This property was the perfect place for our wedding party to stay. We got married in the area, and this house was nearly big enough to accommodate all of us.
My only comment would be to possibly have more trash bags available to the guests, maybe under the kitchen sink? While completing the checkout list, taking all the trash to the big trash cans would have been easier if there were more large trash bags available.
Overall, great stay! Thanks!

This place was amazing! We had a very large group and had everything we needed. There were well maintained walking trails, plenty of chairs and areas to sit and enjoy the outdoors, and a wide variety of games and activities for ALL ages available (indoor and outdoor). Alicia, our host, was super helpful. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!

Our group of 16 had an amazing stay here! We are a group of homeschooling families and we all found comfy spots to sleep. The beds and bedding are all comfy and in great condition. Everything was clean and well supplied.
Several people in the group love to cook and appreciated the very well-stocked kitchen. There were many different areas in the the house so that people could do different activities but there was also room for us all to be together. And it is beautiful outside! The view from the deck is gorgeous. We went on some really special hikes on the property and didn't feel the need to go explore elsewhere, actually! Several members of the group went horseback riding and said it was really an exceptional experience.
When we reached out to the host with any questions, she responded quickly and seemed happy to help. We plan to go back for sure!

This house fit our needs perfectly, with separation between children and adults. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The house was in an area that provided hikes and seclusion. The property manager was very responsive to needs and questions, and we had no problems. We would definitely come back. Thank you.

Roomy, well equipped home with amazing trails and views. Watched the wild turkeys and deer wonder about. The deck overlooking the changing fall trees in the canyon was magical.

The homestead was a perfect home base for our large group getaway. It was clean, spacious and close to the river and town. Will definitely be back and recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing place with plenty of outdoor activities.

Homestead at Yuba Retreat was a beautiful setting and a very relaxing environment. The house easily accommodated 2 small children and 7 adults with separate spaces for everyone.

Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered here for the weekend to celebrate our matriarch's 85th birthday. We filled every bedroom plus the fold out couches and made use of both kitchens plus the game room. Hiking the fabulous network of trails was a highlight! This is an amazing property for a group like ours, with space for everyone to stay and dine together. It's not too fancy, (a plus for us) very clean and thoughtfully stocked with all the necessities. The deck overlooking the canyon is a great place to relax in the daytime and stargaze at night. There was something for everyone in our diverse collection of ages and interests; we look forward to returning for another stay soon!

This was our third time staying at the Forest Homestead. It’s hard to find a nice place with room for 10 adults, 7 kids, and 3 dogs that also has things to do on the property or nearby. The house is large and has plenty of comfortable spaces for eating, playing games, hanging out, and entertaining the kiddos (ages 10m to pre-teens). When the weather is nice, we’ve enjoyed frisbee golf and the outdoor lounging areas. This year we drove about 35 minutes to play in the snow and everyone enjoyed hiking the property or down to the water — there are lots of options depending on energy level and abilities. Communicating with Alicia is extremely easy as are the check in and out procedures. We enjoyed our stay once again and plan to come back.

Plenty of space and beds for all the grown ups in our group! We cooked amazing meals in the roomy kitchen and ate at the big dining table. We hiked around the beautiful trails and found the Moss house. The dog run was spacious and perfect for a 3yr old chocolate lab. We can’t wait to come back.
6.0
The location is wonderful if you go and stay and do not want to leave the property once you are there. If you want to visit friends or go into town, the road is windy and long. The draw to the place is the outside with trails and privacy.
The house itself is tired and uninteresting with no relationship to the outside: balconies, windows, or porches. There are lots of beds and baths to accommodate a large group but lacked any kind of architectural integrity or ambiance.
The kitchen has very little in the way of pots, pans, bowls, trays, or cooking utensils. Most of the kitchen cabinets were completely bare. The house was overall clean but end tables, tv, etc were dusty and the entire place needs a good scrub down and a little TLC. It was nice to have a couple of little Christmas trees inside but most of the strand of lights didn't go on-it was a little lame.
Our family will not be renting this house again.

Perfect Family Vacation
We vacation every year with the kids and grandkids. As our family has grown it has become more and more difficult to find a place to accommodate our group. This house met all of our needs! Comfy beds, large kitchens, plenty of bathrooms, lots of outdoor seating. The game room was a huge hit and provided hours of entertainment, especially for the young adults. The view from the deck is spectacular! We appreciate that our dogs, important members of our family, were welcome too. Alicia and Mike were wonderful hosts. This was probably our best trip ever.

Great trail system
We enjoyed our family gathering and hiking trails to the creek. Overgrowth of poison oak meant close supervision of younger kids was required.

Elizaldi and Gonzalez Family Trip
The property is beautiful and the house is very cozy. Our families and dogs enjoyed the trails, the river and it natural water falls. Also having two stories gave some sense of independence to our teens as the took over the lower level of the house. We are very thankful in letting us stay and are looking forward in making it an annual family vacation spot.

Family getaway “not the snow house”
We were a multigenerational family getting together. Our dad who is 95 and great grandkids who are 5 and ages in between with teenagers and young adults. I asked the group what their favorite part of trip was and unanimously they answered the deck and the hike. The guys tried several fishing spots. The ladies took a hike to the creek. This property is amazing. The house is beautiful and well spaced out. It definitely is a retreat center. We had all the pots and pans and dishes we needed to prepare amazing meals. Alicia was a great host and always responded quickly.

We had a great time at this home. Everything was clean and ready for us to use at the time of check in. The kids and teens enjoyed the game room and the outdoors too. We also like the trails to the creek.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with my family!!!

Great time had by all!
We stayed here for a family wedding in Nevada City. The house was perfect for our family. We especially enjoyed the trail system down to the creek and the game room for the all of us... kids at heart. The younger kids didn't want to leave!
Alicia, thanks again for being so supportive and helpful with our reservation and stay. Hope to return sometime in the future! Cheers the Real-Fletcher Family

A beautiful house in lovely setting
Alicia has been amazing with this trip. Really appreciate how quick she is to communicate and her flexibility. We also went to this property last year and love how spacious the house is and the beautiful grounds with access to the river.

Family had a great time. Kids had so much fun without internet ( choosing not to give the kids password) and was surprise they were all sad it was time to go. Really great space.

The description doesn't do this place place justice...it was even better than the description. The whole family enjoyed it. It was safe for the toddlers, the teens and young adults enjoyed the hikes and the creek and the countless activities provided by the host. The size of the cabin fit everyone comfortably, everything was in excellent condition except for the bathrooms doors and locks. The game room was probably where most of the older guys spent their time. We also loved that we didn't have anyone else near us to bother us or get bothered by us. We do tend to be a bit loud not in a rude way but we are naturally load...lol.Overall if we plan on another trip like this I would definitely rent this place out again.

Relaxing and beautiful
Again, a lovely stay in a thoughtfully prepared vacation rental, with a lot of space, in a gorgeous location. We have a pretty large family get together every year and have stayed here before and came back for a second year. It is a very comfortable space for our extended family. The house is thoughtfully curated with enough decoration that it is homey and not so much that having a 3 year old and 5 year old in the living room is a safety concern for them and everyone else. The kitchen is the same, it had everything that we without having to dig through piles of kitchen miscellany to find what you need. The owner is helpful when asked but also very respectful of privacy. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back in the future since it is truly a gem.

Great Family Trip
Every year my extended family of adults between 25 and 88 years rent a home in California. This was one of our favorites.
The home was clean, spacious and well equipped. The only thing we could complain about were the poison oak and not great cell service, things the owner cannot improve! This is a getaway so that is Okay by me.
The owner was close and very responsive , though we did not have any issues.

Fantastic property
My family, friends and I had a fantastic stay at the property. It was so spacious and laid out so nicely. We also loved the outdoor space and kids had so much fun playing laser tag, corn hole and in the river. The owners are also very thoughtful with details - extra towels, chairs and seating in different areas etc. The creek is a short walk from the house and perfect for a quick dip and hanging out. We would absolutely stay here again.

What a Great Place for a Group Gathering!
Our family has been staying in homes for quite a few years as our yearly gathering. This has to be one of the best. The home owner communicates quickly, provides great information and is flexible. The house is lovely and true to the pictures. We used every square inch of the facility (except the campgrounds) and felt we had everything we needed - from quiet places to get away, places to gather, room to cook and eat, to great hiking trails and water access. What a beautiful piece of property.
2 negatives delivered by Mother Nature: mosquitoes and poison oak. Just be prepared.
So many extras were provided from baby pools to gold panning equipment to camping gear. Plenty of towels, sheets and pillows were available. The bathrooms made life easy, with the bath house being an extra bonus. The studio apartment was wonderful, adding not only extra bedrooms, a bath and sitting area but having an extra frig was very helpful. The game room was enjoyed by all.
We loved it.
