The house was comfortable and roomy. The lake view was beautiful. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. Comfortable beds. Very quiet area. Location gives an easy drive to Yosemite. Lots of wildlife to watch while we had our morning coffee off the spacious deck.

The house was spacious and had character. Lots of room in the fridge for food and all the cooking utensils you could ask for. Beautiful deck overlooking the pond, and only a short drive to Yosemite. And Mike is a gracious host. Perfect!

Our stay was fantastic. The house is great. It is spacious and well equipped. Mike, the owner, is very knowledgeable and communicative. I would stay here again, and would recommend it to friends. Thanks Mike!

The property is wonderfully located and beautifully furnished in order to remind the guest of the experiences awaiting just beyond the door. If I am ever fortunate to own such a home I hope that I could designate a similar attention to detail. It seems as though a lifetime of adventure was had in this house. For anyone who would like to visit the valley, I would recommend no other stay. I feel contented and hope to soon return.

Spacious rustic home
Initially we had booked it for 2adults and 2 kids but later invited our friends since it could sleep 8. The cottage is spacious and has a cozy lived in feel as if you are staying at an aunts house. The decor is a bit dated but it adds to the rustic appeal. There are a lot of memramblia all over the house and pictures of the owner’s family. Has a nice view of the lake and is walking distance from the public beach. The community pool is at the country club which is 3 miles away. Overall we had a very relaxing Labor Day weekend. It’s great value for money if you don’t mind a bit of a dated but comfortable decor and don’t expect a home that has the latest amenities. Mike the host was responsive and checked in on us multiple times.

Very homey and welcoming. Wonderful weekend.

Old house good location
The location was nice and the size of the home, but needs cleaning. The house was super dirty, cobwebs all over ceiling, dust everywhere, and so cluttered. It was seriously hard finding anything with so much stuff around. This house is need of a deep clean. Also, my family did not like the fact that the owner asked why and when we were using the AC during 95 degree weather. I have rented and stayed at places before and never told what to do during the stay because that is what you are paying for.

Awesome location and character loaded cabin
Had a great week stay at the cabin. We really appreciate Mike, the owner, giving us some great advice about Yosemite and how to get the best from visiting. The cabin is full of things to explore and we loved the decor. The lake and pool were awesome for the kids and we enjoyed horse riding too.

family getaway
The house is awesome, looks much better in real than on pictures. The bottom floor was our entertainment area where we played pool, hanged out, listened to music (there's a blue tooth connected retro speaker), it was definitely a nice extra to our experience.
Close to the lodge beach area and the Marina, 5 min drive.
Best of all, Mike, the owner, was very kind to us when we had realized that we had forgotten an important ring at the house, he arranged it to be mailed back to us free of charge- that says a lot! Thanks, Mike!

Great view, Great games, Great time
The place was perfect for a getaway. When we weren't enjoying the deer walking right up to the porch while we watched the beautiful sunset over the lake, we were downstairs shooting pool, or upstairs relaxing in the living room playing chess and other games. There was plenty of space for us and a lot of extra places to sleep beyond the three bedrooms. I highly recommend it and I am already planning my return trip!

Great location, owener and house with couple notes..
Great location. Great owner. Great price. Agree with some of the other reviews needs a deep clean and some de-cluttering. Great value and location out weighted those details. Our kids had their own floor and having a lot of space was really nice. Plus we love the PML area and resort amenities. We could easily spend 1-2 weeks enjoying the area. Hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, Yosemite, golf, pickle ball, tennis, enjoying downtown area and on and on. Note to parents of toddler/preschooler lots of little exciting things for them to grab and play with so may not be the best fit.

Fire your cleaning crew
House is original and fun, great location, beds are comfortable, pretty much everything we needed was available to us. It's truly a great place, except for the fact that it was dirty, dust everywhere, counter tops were sticky and even some of the dishes inside the cup holders had food residue .
I will suggest hire a new housekeeper inmediately. Thank you.

Great Times with the family
First off Mike was awesome and very accommodating. Our family had the greatest time enjoying the home and the location. We were able to play in the snow right next door to the house, couldn't have worked out better due to the weather. evenings were spent playing pool and enjoying the fire.
Overall one of our best family vacations we had to day.
We will be Back.
Thanks again Mike for your hospitality.

Relaxing at the Lake
Cute cabin by the lake. Plenty of room for me and my daughters including their families. Spent one day in Yosemite and the other two enjoying the lake and Groveland. Spent our final night at Ironstone Vineyards Ampitheatre taking in a Toby Kieth concert.

Great place close to lake
No wifi or phone service, but Mike (the owner) was great to work with me and contacted my family members to let them know how to contact the house. Kitchen has everthing you need to cook a meal. Nice view from the deck. We had a very nice stay.

Very Beautiful Cabin
We spent 3 nights at "Escape By The Lake". Overall very good experience.
Cabin itself is very nice. The whole house is fully decorated with bears and fishing theme. You can find everything you need in the kitchen, including pots and pans, plates and cups. Nice wooden kitchen table. We enjoyed our dinner one time on the deck while watching sunset.
There's a game room downstairs with a pool table. Lots of kids games there as well. We had a good time.
There's a visitor pass ($27) required per vehicle in order to stay inside this gated resort.
The cabin is only a little bit more than 20 miles from the Yosemite National Park entrance.
We are a group of two families with 3 adults and 4 kids. This cabin can comfortably fit 10 people.
Mike gave us directions on how to get to the cabin before we started the trip there. He called twice during our stay at the cabin to make sure we had everything we need.
The only downside is no wifi there. But it's understandable. I strongly recommend this cabin.

Great times near Yosemite
This place was extremely unique. I took my wife and parents-in-law here for a weekend getaway near Yosemite. It certainly didn't disappoint. The decor was incredible and the proximity to the National Park was great. We went into Yosemite Valley one day, saw the amazing waterfalls of Spring 2017, then went into Hetch-Hetchy Valley the second day. To have been able to see the "twin valleys" like that (one dammed up and one left free) was very powerful. If you have time to see both valleys, please do so. You'll definitely be close enough if you stay at the "Escape by the Lake."
Perhaps the most interesting part of the trip was the strange "thunder hail" storm that we experienced. It was 75 all day long until at around 5pm, the clouds rolled in and the thunder and lightning started. But there wasn't rain! It was sleet and hail falling from the sky - definitely a first for all of us.
The owner was very responsive to all of my annoying texts and emails and had the courtesy to call us on the landline at his house (cell phones are very light on reception) just after we arrived and just before we were ready to leave. I appreciated this more than anything. He offered us thoughts on where to buy food and drink and suggested some particular places to explore in Yosemite.
So if you're looking for a nice place for a good price near John Muir's getaway, this place is it for you :-)

Escape by the Lake - the name says it all
Location! Walk to Fisherman's Cove or Lodge Beach from your Escape by the Lake. Play cards and enjoy grilling on the expansive deck while the sun drops behind the lake and the deer gather to watch from the yard below. When is the last time you really saw the Milky Way? Every night we were there... just out the front door! The kitchen is fully stocked - don't bring anything but your favorite chef's knife. The owner, Mike, was very attentive and called a few times to make sure everything was okay. He even encouraged us to make use of his canoe, which we did. The 11 year old boy with us could have lived at Lodge Beach, I think! Groveland is fun to explore and Yosemite National Park is a short drive away and my favorite destination. Columbia State Historical Park near Sonora was an educational, fun day trip, with another stop in the historical town of Jamestown, where over 100 movies were filmed! We brought our two pups ... "Escape" is dog friendly, though there was no fenced area, so keep that in mind. WIFI is available at the Iron Door Saloon, an historical gem in Groveland. The 11 year old and I enjoyed a visit to the nicely curated museum attached to the Groveland library. There's only one grocery store - on the corner of 120 and Ferretti Road, a bit pricey but certainly convenient. Now, back to the house: Yes, the bathrooms and kitchen could use some updating. Yes, it could have been cleaner. But, hey, you're at a cabin on a lake not the Ritz. Enjoy it. We did!!

Great family getaway
Plenty of room for our family. We enjoyed the large deck and the short walk to the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed. The house has the feeling of a true mountain lodge, a perfect setting for our Father's Day weekend.

A highly decorated lake house full of charm. Comfortable beds and plenty of space for the entire family. We enjoyed meals on the deck and cozying up in the family room.

Great place for families with kids
We enjoyed spending time on the large porch which had a fantastic view of the lake. It was nice to have a beach within walking distance for the kids. The owner called several times to make sure everything was in order. Overall, it was a good experience

Lovely home in a lovely community
WE enjoyed our stay here although our main purpose was to visit Yosemite which is a good 40-50 minute drive away. The home is cosy with alot of amenties--good for kids. Not very dog friendly though because there is nowhere for them to run or swim that we could find. The house needs some repairs and a deep cleaning but if you can overlook those things it has a wonderful view, is near a beach and close to wildlife.
