The overlook from the deck as beautiful.
Plenty of room inside and out for great family games and face time. I would recommend to everyone.

This is a wonderful property. The views are gorgeous! Good communications with host. We had a great time with family.
My advice is to carefully review the sleeping arrangements listed for the property and ask questions to ensure the beds/bedrooms will meet your party’s needs.

Turning 70 here was the best birthday I’ve ever had! The whole property is clean, comfy, and so fun!

Ten women came to spend a relaxing and fun 3 days at Lion Downe’s Cottage. Our expectations were beyond exceeded! From the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape and stunning views, to the absolute gorgeous cottage, which was just as listed and accurately matched the photos. We couldn’t have had a more fabulous time! We loved the deck and we sooo loved the screened in room downstairs. One minor little detail that did not make a difference but thought you might like to know: there were only 7 or 8 forks total, and there were 10 of us. You might want to add a few more.
Thank you Rob and Heather for sharing your beautiful home with us. We plan on coming back again!

We (7 best friends) so thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous cottage with the billion-dollar view!!! Everything - from the charm, quality, and decor of the cottage, to the extremely comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, extra towels, board games and books, and tons of cozy lap blankies, was absolutely TOP NOTCH. And the best part? Hot-tubbing under the infinite, sparkling stars. Some of us had never seen so many stars in our lives. What a treasure of a place. The memories we’ve made here we will never forget. THANK YOU. 🙏

We recently rented Lion Downe Cottage for our book club annual getaway. What an amazing property and view!! We thoroughly enjoyed the deck and group living space and there were plenty of bathrooms for a group of 8 women. We did need to shuffle sleeping arrangements as we have several older members that were uncomfortable with the access, but the younguns were able to take those beds. The kitchen was well-appointed and the game closet fully loaded. Would definitely choose this property again!!!

Beautiful place. The view overlooking Lake Pepin was amazing, you’ll see barges, tankers and other boats. Great for bird watching. Great layout to the spot. Host was very generous and left a bottle of wine for us.
Would stay again.

Perfect spot for us, two couples and an English setter. Very clean, crazy cool view, and so incredibly private. Lots to see and do within 30 or so minutes. Great amenities. Really enjoyed the screened room downstairs, the architecture, and I’ll say it again - the view.

this is a great property. Very beautiful, deck was amazing. Cottage was very clean, organized. Everything we needed was there.
One negative, the sleeping arrangements. One bed was in a closet. The two beds with the ladder was not used. Two hard to navigate. A great place for 6 adults.

I hate to say it, but I really do not want to say anything nice as I want this place all to myself! This is an amazing home in a beautiful location. I like to cook on vacation and had the most amazing view during my hours in the kitchen. I usually bring all the necessary kitchen items to accomplish the meals I will be preparing but this time I only brought my knives and a couple pans that would be required. The kitchen is outfitted so well I would have been ok without my pans (always want my knives). My husband lived on the deck as much as he could. The home is very comfortable and almost combines the cozy feel of a log home with the magic of a castle. This would be perfect for a large family or a couple families with children. This was the perfect place to get away and just breathe.

We had a wonderful time at the Lions Downe cabin, beautiful and expansive views up and down the river, hot tub for relaxing conversation at sun down, huge kitchen and living areas for having meals and playing games. We hope to be back again!

Beautiful location with a gorgeous view of the
river. The cabin has many nice amenities. They even left us a gift of local cider and wine! Kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook your own meals during your stay. Fireplace was nice and cozy for the evenings. Hosts were communicative. Hot tub was not heating up one evening but hosts got back to us right away with suggestions on how to resolve the issue. We forgot an item at the cabin and the hosts were kind enough to mail it back to us no charge. The only reason I rated a 3 of 5 was due to an issue we experienced with one of the beds. A friend who stayed in one of the loft beds woke up with numerous bites all over her body. She found a bug that appeared to be a bed bug. We immediately reported it to the host and all guests checked their homes to see if it could have been brought in. Unfortunately, it appears to have originated from the cabin . Host advised they would have their pest control come out to investigate and address it. Upon request, they provided a 50% refund and apologized for the inconvenience. Had it not been for the bugs, would have rated 5 stars. Thanks!

Our same foursome and two dogs choose to visit again as we did the previous January. The cottage is perfect for a close getaway from the Twin Cities and makes for a relaxing winter break to read by the fire, hang out, play games and share meals.

This was our fourth time staying at Lion Downe and it was excellent as always. This year, due to the unseasonably warm weather, we got to try out some of the amazing hiking trails in Red Wing.
The log cabin is unique and that is exactly what we look for in a vacation rental. The hot tub views overlooking Lake Pepin are second to none. The cabin was clean and kitchen fully stocked for our fancy meal making. Communication with the owners is prompt and they are very helpful if needed.

My college girlfriends and I meet up for a much needed reunion. The check-in process was easy and the cabin was clean. We enjoyed Maiden Rock Winery and Cidery and had lunch and did some shopping in Red Wing. The hot tub was a nice touch. Great place for a reunion or girls weekend.

We enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage! The views are amazing and the vibes inside the cottage are warm and cozy. The hosts were excellent and very responsive. It is essentially just one large room, so definitely bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper!

What a unique cabin in a private setting! The view from the deck was amazing! The welcome gift was such a thoughtful touch. I would like to also add that Rob went above and beyond when I left something behind. He not only contacted me by phone call and text to notify me, but also very graciously mailed it to me. Thank you for a lovely stay!

There is no doubt that this property is beautiful and cabin cozy. The view from the deck and hot tub can't be beat. The hot tub was listed as new, however it was not and did not work for the last night of our trip which was a big bummer as that was a big reason we paid the premium price to stay at this VRBO. The hosts also market the property as sleeping up to 13, however charge an additional $25 per person after 1 person, which is very misleading in general and sets a certain expectation. Our group was confused what these additional fees paid for as we didn't feel the place was super clean upon arrival (we swept up many bugs and dirt on the main floor when we first arrived). Also small things like the watered down soap offered, lack of paper towels, etc. that you'd normally find in most standard rentals – that didn't sit well when required to pay an extra per person fee. It wasn't an issue for our group, but it's worth it to mention that all but one of the bedrooms are completely lofted and in an open space. Bedroom 2 is really a loft, with the second bed being in a cabinet. It wasn't a problem for our group, but something to note. Overall, it’s a beautiful property and fun space, but don’t think the price matches the value.

A great place tucked off the road. Beautiful surroundings filled with awesome fall colors/weather. A calm and peaceful place to share with friends and family. A nice big kitchen with a comfortable table that easily seat all of us. The fireplace is epic as it is the overall tranquility of being nestled in the woods & incredible views. Super rolling farmland hills for walking. Fun and friendly close by towns for interesting gift shopping.
Thank you!

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the Lion Downe Cottage for a long weekend. We really liked, what we call the 'hobbit room' in the basement. It is like a stoned in 3-season room with screens and comfy furniture. We sat out there quite a while watching a thunderstorm for a few hours. My one complaint is too many bees on the deck, but after all, we are in the woods and bees are part of nature. The other thing I would like to comment on is the beds in the loft are not accessible to 50+ year old ladies, so the bedding situation was a little tight for 8 of us. Otherwise, the cabin is very beautiful, unique, and very secluded. Loved it.

We loved the Lions Downe! There were little things like a nightlight by the toilet, lots of outlets for charging, lots of blankets that were added bonuses. The owners went above and beyond to acquire a wheelchair for us that we forgot to rent! Which made things for my husband a lot easier! We really enjoyed the beautiful view and hot tub!

Lion Downe Cottage is absolutely beautiful!
We loved everything about it, the pictures do not do it justice!
The view from the deck was stunning and we loved sitting in the sun room and just relaxing.
It was secluded and private and peaceful which was exactly what we were looking for.
The owners are very responsive and it was a very easy check in.
Would definitely stay again, I can imagine the fall colors would be breathtaking!

We loved the chalet/rustic wood and stone design of the exterior. The interior was also cleverly designed and fun to explore. Our family enjoyed their stay. The home was well stocked and supplied with kitchen items.
The only drawback was sleeping. With the open design it was easy to hear most of the other people during the night. A problem if you have snorers. Also, with no window coverings, it’s easy to wake with the dawn.

Our favorite escape with all the ingredients for a comfortable and blissful oasis. The huge hot tub with view and lower level magical grotto are fabulous!

This is a beautiful location and a very unique home that has everything you need. There were a few very minor maintenance items, but nothing that impacted our stay or complete enjoyment of the home.
We enjoyed the hot tub every morning, the house stayed cool during the hottest days of the summer, and there were plenty of different sleeping options and places to get away to, if needed.
There were plenty of towels, all the kitchen equipment you need, reliable Internet, lots of good seating, and the property is incredibly private and quiet. It was a great escape from the city with friends, and we visited the towns of Red Wing, Wabasha, Pepin, and Stockholm to enhance our time.
The owners were responsive and provide everything you need through the VRBO site. We will definitely consider staying here again!
