Tucked into a luscious forest, it's the perfect place to escape to the wilderness. Enter the home on the ground level with a warm, rustic feel. The kitchen, living room, and bath with soaking tub are located on the main level and the private upstairs queen suite is complete with a newly renovated, modern bathroom with cozy wood floors.
Be sure to open the doors and windows and take in the naturally cool temperatures and relaxing sounds of the stream though the cabin does offer A/C and heat throughout.
The Hemlock Cabin at Huffman Creek Retreat is located in Robbinsville, North Carolina in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Region of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Known for it's diverse species of flora and fauna, the region is home to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest (home of the largest trees in the east and the annual synchronous fireflies), Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, Natahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
From Huffman Creek, you're only moments to the secluded waters of Lake Santeetlah. The lake boasts almost an entirely undeveloped shoreline with 75% being home to National Forest. With a restricted number of residences, the quiet lake is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and any of your favorite water sports. Boat and Jet Ski rentals are available throughout the spring and summer seasons.
Take a short drive to Highway 129 and take on the adventure of driving the 'Tail of the Dragon.' The world-renowned road is a challenge even for the greatest road warriors with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Continue on your journey and loop back around to Huffman Creek on the Cherohala Skyway, which winds through mountaintop ridges of the Cherokee National Forrest. These views are certainly something to write home about. Be sure to bring your camera! And if you're traveling in June, be sure to make time to experience the blooming of the Native Flame Azaleas!
For the history buffs, you're just a short drive to Cherokee, North Carolina, home to the eastern Band of the Cherokee People. Try your luck at Harrah's Cherokee Casino or visit one of the many restaurants, shops, and museums.
Embrace your inner adventurer and head down the Nantahala River. Featuring a combination of Class II and III rapids, there is something for the novice and full-on adrenaline junkie. Be sure to contact one of the multiple rafting companies in Bryson City to schedule your full day of adventure. Between white water rafting, zip-lining, mountain biking, and horse back riding, you'll be ready to relax when you arrive back at Huffman Creek.
Enjoy the quieter side of your stay just steps outside of your door. Take a nap by the private river while you enjoy friends and family fishing for trout.
There is certainly nothing more therapeutic than curling up in your cabin during the occasional afternoon rain or warming up by your private indoor fireplace or outdoor fire pit and enjoying the undeveloped view of the night stars twinkling above.
Head down to the fire pit for an evening of stories, laughs, good eats, and of course, smores.
The Hemlock's kitchen offers an abundance of opportunity for the culinary enthusiast to prepare a quick picnic to take along for the day's hike or a full feast to celebrate a day of outdoor fun and relaxation. (We can also stock your kitchen with groceries upon request)
Take a trip down a few winding gravel roads for an escape from the complexities of the daily grind and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. A trip to the Hemlock Cabin at Huffman Creek will revitalize the senses and relax the soul.

An absolutely stunning log home set in a surrounding that is surreal. Creek beside is music to the ears and acreage surrounding you is beautiful. This is certainly a nature lover’s paradise. Our dogs absolutely loved it. Will definitely return as well as recommend to friends and family that cherish the great outdoors.

If you want to relax and reconnect with nature this us the place to be. We had such an amazing time with our fur baby hiking and listening to the beautiful music from the creek. Would highly recommend.
4.7
Beautiful and peaceful but very remote.
The negative comments would be bedroom carpet was soiled and needs replaced. Cabin is very dark. Fireplace chimney needs cleaned. Silverware in kitchen is very cheap. Soap provided for bathrooms was inadequate. Too remote for us. Signage to air plane crash, etc. needs improvement.
Positive comments would be beautiful, peaceful property. Loved all the waterfalls and beautiful flowering bushes.

We had such a fabulous New Year's and 1st anniversary get away in this cabin!!! The cabin was simple and just perfect for us and the property couldn't have been more gorgeous -- listening to Huffman Creek tumble below, watching the wind in the trees, hiking the beautiful trails on the property. We absolutely loved our stay and can't wait to come back!

The property was absolutely amazing and the views/hikes were breath taking. We met one of the keepers, Frank, and the owner, Robin, while out walking our dog. They were so kind and friendly. We could tell by the way they spoke of property how much they loved it. I could not have asked for a more peaceful and perfect vacation spot.

We loved this cabin. So inviting and the property was gorgeous. A few things people should be prepared for: it is hard to find your way around at first. Recommend getting there in daylight. The roads are bumpy and 129 is very difficult to stomach if it's on your route😂. The wifi internet situation is not great. HOWEVER, this place is totally worth it if you're looking for beauty and seclusion. We wanted to stay forever. Frank the caretaker was very helpful and kind.

This is a nice little getaway cabin. I loved the sound of the creek on the property and the comfortable bed upstairs. It’s away from everything which I enjoyed. The only drawback was the fact that the fireplace, which is listed under amenities, doesn’t come with firewood. I contacted the owner and he was willing to have some sent over for a fee. I payed PLENTY of money for the rental so I felt like that wasn’t very awesome. Other than that it’s a great cabin.

This lovely cabin was a delightful retreat for us. We love to hike in the Joyce Kilmer/ Slickrock Wilderness, and it was easily accessible from this very remote cabin. The land is thoughtfully developed by a family, with several cabins of different sizes. We retraced some of our favorite hikes (Hangover Lead, Naked Ground trail) and discovered new hikes-including Shuckstack Mountain and the fire tower-up from Fontana Dam. We explored some of the hikes off of the Cherohala Skyway, too. The property itself also has trails.

If you want to be Off The Grid this is the place for you. Very Remote. No Cell service. No Internet service. Difficult road to the house. Cleanliness was sub par. However, if you want to be off the grid that might be ok with you. Pay attention to RETREAT in the name!! We stayed one night of our scheduled 6.

We enjoyed the location of this cabin. Great area to hike and a beautiful creek right out the front door. I was a bit disappointed with the cleanliness of the cabin. The upstairs carpet was filthy and the furniture smelled of smoke from the wood fire place. The smell penetrated our clothing upon return home -even after washing while at cabin. Location was beautiful but would expect a bit cleaner environment for the money we paid

Unexpected, unreal, unparalleled. We were blown away. As we drove further and further into the woods down a clearly less used gravel road, we were unsure if we had made the right decision. Coming into the final turn, we found ourselves on a blind hill and a bit panicked, but clearly that hill, we found ourselves in a secret, hidden hide away with the most beautiful views. There are a few cabins, but none impede the other privacy. The Hemlock is up a very steep hill and we were thankful to have four wheel drive.
The cabin was very very clean for a cabin in the woods. There are heaters, but we preferred the fireplace and the cast iron cook stove. They warm the house nicely and cooking on the cast iron was a delight. There is tons of hot water and a huge tub and a lovely shower.
Frank was a huge surprise. He is the on site property manager and the uncle you wish you had. Super nice and accommodating and a wonderful conversation. He has his sweet dog Nelly by his side at all times.
The hiking and falls were great but playing in the creeks was our families choice for cooling off and collecting rocks.
We hope to return soon with family and book a lodge.

Huffman Creek Retreat is a beautiful place off the beaten path. So secluded and quiet, it would be impossible to not relax, especially with the trance of the creek. We really enjoyed our week at Hemlock Cabin.

We had a fantastic time in the Hemlock cabin. The incredible sound of the creek lulled us into sleep at night and helped us relax during the day. The cabin was cozy and full of modern conveniences and totally charming. Between the wood stove range and the fireplace we stayed cozy even in the snow. Big thanks to Frank who helped keep us in firewood. The hiking trails were beautiful as is the entire property. It is a lovely oasis away from the world, and we will for sure be back in the spring to see a new side of it.Totally reccomend this lovely place of respite.

Fun Family Getaway!
We can't say enough about this cute cabin! The cabin was the perfect size for our family of three and our dog. It is tastefully decorated and super cozy! The sound of the river in front of the house was amazing to listen to. We hiked during the day on the numerous trails that are all over the property. My 10 yr. old son played in the river on a daily basis and then we would have a fire in the fire pit every night. Frank, the retreats caretaker was very kind and helpful with anything that we needed. We suggest the hike in the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. We hated to leave our cozy cabin in the woods!!!

Perfect western NC getaway!
This cabin exceeded our expectations, a truly lovely cabin in a beautiful location. Our family of three (plus two dogs) fit perfectly in the Hemlock Cabin. We enjoyed the front porch, the stream, campfires in the fire pit at night, and hiking the private trails. Easy communication with the owners. We would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely perfect!
This is a perfect cabin for a couple with a pooch! The property manager, Frank, was wonderful and super-smiley. The cabin is so darn cute! There is nothing we didn’t love. Our dog loved to go for walks off-leash with us. She never gets to do that at home. Other family members rented the large Creekside Lodge a five-minute walk away, so that added to the perfect vacation. Thank you!!!

Outstanding
I can't say enough to describe the beauty of this property. My wife, dog and I enjoyed exploring the beautiful creek and surrounding areas. Joyce Kilmer was a fantastic hike. I would highly recommend that you bring everything you need since Robbinsville was very underwhelming as far as towns are concerned. Wehrloom Honey is probably the only place worth visiting in the entire town. Ingles was a nice enough grocery store to pick up what we didn't bring with us. The creek and surrounding mountains of the property will more than make you want to stay on the retreat. The cabin was clean and the supplied firewood was a great touch. I would absolutely consider staying here again. Leaving was tremendously hard!

Exactly what I wanted!
I found this property by searching for a place that would allow me to bring my big dog and was fairly secluded. So peaceful and beautiful! The weather wasn’t the best while we were there but we still enjoyed the property. Living in Nashville, close to the interstate, and being married to a workaholic, you forget that you need to reset. We did hikes on the property, had a fire, put together a puzzle, and basically watched the day go by. It was fabulous!! We came prepared with food so we didn’t leave and check out local restaurants. After reading other reviews, we borrowed a friends crossover vehicle, neither my car or my husband’s old truck would of faired well getting up the driveway. I would definitely come back and extend the trip. My dog would of stayed there forever.

This place is wonderful! So secluded, relaxing and restful. The caretaker, Frank, is the kindest, most welcoming with that huge smile. The cleaning staff does an amazing job! We cannot wait to go back!

Cozy and comfortable in a beautiful and serene setting
Hemlock Cabin is “cozy rustic” with some luxury comforts (big bathtub, nice bed, comfy couch and chairs), but best of all is the amazing forest setting with 360 degree green views and the relaxing sound (and view) of the nearby stream. The front porch is a lovely place to sit and sip tea in the morning and the nearby fire pit is a great place for a sunset fire pit happy hour!
Frank and Robin welcomed us by helping to build a beautiful fire in the indoor fireplace and they are so friendly and helpful! The kitchen is mostly well equipped pots/pans/dishes-wise but we brought our own butter/seasonings etc. They did provide coffee and accessories. There’s no close place to eat so you will be cooking. We enjoyed it!
This is a wonderful property with responsive management and we would highly recommend it!

My husband and I had the most amazing time. It was so nice to just get away from the everyday hustle and bustle. We honestly spent most of our time sitting on the porch and listening to the creek that was right by the house. Out did, Titan, had the time of his life running around and enjoying his time. We will definitely be back!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Hemlock Cabin at Huffman Creek this past weekend. It was a late honeymoon as we got married and started a small business earlier this summer and hadn't had a chance to get away. Also, it was very important for us to find a spot that would welcome our dogs... they needed to get away too!
This cabin, and the property it sits on, is absolutely stunning. The roar of the creek is a constant reminder that you are here to relax and enjoy nature. Unplug. Set the phone down. Take a hike (literally). The hiking trails are well kept with signage to keep you pointed in the right direction.
I can't say enough good things about this cabin, the property and the owners. We hope to be able to come back to this spot again in the future.
