About this house rental
This historic home with high ceilings is approximately 1900 sq feet all on one level. No need for a car as you are right in Centro and just steps from restaurants, and a few blocks from the Main Square called the Plaza Grande. You are within walking distance to so many parks and amazing historical architectural sites. A few short blocks away is Santiago Parque where you can enjoy Big Band music and dancing on Tuesday evenings, or just around the other corner is Parque Santa Lucia with fabulous local cuisine. A few short blocks to the English Library for their home tours, and comraderie.
Enjoy the Queen bed 2 bedroom/2 bathroom home with private pool, and covered patio. Two master suites - Both bedrooms are air conditioned, and ceiling fans are throughout the house. High Speed Internet and wifi extender for the patio, and cable TV are provided. The pool is night lit for a romantic dip in the evening, or to sit on the ledge and enjoy a glass of wine. Truly an amazing location in a safe neighbourhood.
The front doors have glass enclosures to help with any street noise although once you step inside, you will find a peaceful oasis, surprisingly quiet for being in the heart of the city. You will find the neighbourhood safe and peaceful - no loud bars near by - although we do have Dzaltbay Cantina, and Negrita Cantina for music nights within walking distance. There are local restaurants - Indian, Sicilian, Italian, and delicious Pola ice cream just around the corners. There is a local school with the children taught by nuns, and sometimes you may hear the sounds of the little children singing songs - truly charming. There is a parking lot close by for those wanting secure parking if you are renting a car although you don't need a car for this location - everything is close. Walking distance to Paseo de Montejo. The bus to Progresso is just up the next street if you need a day at the beach. - Busline is AutoProgresso - about 24 pesos at this time.
The kitchen is totally set up for cooks, and there are 3 places to dine. Enjoy the outdoor patio with full dining for up to 8, or the inside dining room set up for 4, or just sit and have your breakfast at the wrought iron stools in the heart of the kitchen. All of the dishes, and cutlery, glassware etc are there, and you will find all you need to make some great meals if you feel so inclined. The bedrooms are separate from one another so that you can enjoy the utmost privacy. The bedroom in the back of the home which is the Spanish room looks out onto the pool and patio, and its attached bathroom can be accessed from the bedroom or from the patio for your guests. The other bedroom, the Moroccan room is close to the kitchen and living area. All have lots of linens, and the showers are walk in. There are lots of hooks to hang your clothes as well as closets in both bedrooms.
Casa Lola is a comfortable oasis in the vibrant city of Merida. Our elegant home has numerous antiques and vintage curios from around the globe as well as amenities like high speed internet and cable tv with English chanels to make your stay comfortable and convenient. You will love Casa Lola. The house is close to numerous restaurants, like Apoala and Amaro, and the Gastronomic row of restaurants on Calle 49 just to name a few, and within 2 minutes walk, you can find wonderful Yucatecan, Thai and Italian food. Take a cooking class with International chefs and learn how to make the wonderful food. The shops are amazing and you'll delight in finding lots of wonderful treasures. The most wonderful thing, other than the architecture of Merida, is the people. It is like going back in time in Merida, with warm wonderful friendly people in a safe incredible city, and yet its very sophisticated. SO much to explore in the Yucatan, and Merida is a wonderful base to do that. We fell in love with Merida and you will too.
Please note that most vacation rental homes in Merida often charge extra for electricity to cover the use of the Air Conditioning. The reason is that excessive use can bump the electric bill up to a high charge rate where it remains for months. We do have a pre-occupation with energy consumption, and we are trying to do our part, while at the same time, being fair to our guests. You will not be charged for the 1st - 25 kw of electricity useage per day on average (based on the length of your stay) Excess consumption of over 25 kw per day average based on your length of stay, will be charged and paid by the guest at a rate of 4mxn/kw. The meter will be read on your check-in, and then again on your check-out, and the property management team will collect the electricity overcharge in pesos should there be one. The charge is also to deter guests from switching the air conditioning on day and night when they are out of the house. Please turn off the AC when you leave the house. This is very much appreciated, and in doing this, you may have 'free' electrical up to 25kw per day which is average usage. We do hate to charge anything, but knowing how the energy usage can increase the electrical charge, we feel this is the fairest way for everyone, and helps us do our part.
Take an Uber to Soriana, Walmart, Super Aki, or Chedraui for groceries, or just walk to Santiago parque to the market for fresh veggies. You can pick up coffee and snacks etc at the local Santiago Super Aki as well.
Please enjoy our home. We do have a small library of books, and some games and a Smart TV for those rainy days. We do include cleaning 1x per week, and also a gardener, and a pool cleaning 1x per week.
Enjoy Merida, and Casa Lola.

Excellent stay!

Casa Lola is a beautifully furnished and decorated property with a private pool and within 10 minutes walking of Merida’s Grand Plaza. The property managers provide excellent support and advice. Calle 66 is pretty busy and noisy but the sound does not penetrate Casa Lola too much. Well recommended!

Beautiful home, great location, but a few repairs for management to attend to. Also, should factor electrical costs into the rent. Electricity had to be paid in pesos at the end of the stay.

Casa Lola is a lovely respite in Merida. It is well appointed with everything you would need while enjoying the beautiful city of Merida. Property management was very responsive. A/C splits in bedrooms worked well and we enjoyed the relaxing oasis of the back yard.

Perfect home location for us during our visit to Merida. Lovely decorating of each room. So much personality in this home. We were quite pleased and enjoyed our stay.
The bedrooms are super comfortable with the most cushy beds! Kitchen is quite functional with all the necessities for preparing meals. We enjoyed afternoon dips in the pool on some very hot days!
Proximity of the home to sites within Merida was good. We were able to walk into town if we wanted to or could easily take an Uber.
For getting outside Mérida into outlying areas, the homeowner, Janis, suggested we hire Argel, an excellent tour guide with Yucatan Awesome Tours.
He’s the best! So knowledgeable and such a kind person, too.
We had an incredible time. Our stay in Merida really could not have gone any better.

The property is beautiful and comfortably appointed. When we weren't out exploring, we spent most of our time on the covered patio or in the pool. Property managers were personable and attentive.
We experienced a little confusion about whether there was an additional charge for electricity (which was not specified in the VRBO listing) but that was cleared up immediately.

Well appointed, updated home within walking distance of the Main Plaza and all other attractions. Manager communicated often to ensure that everything was well. Enjoyed the pool, and the well-appointed, air- conditioned bedrooms. My only suggestion would be to install a mini-split in the living room. It is too hot and stuffy, especially since all the windows are sealed, to enjoy the nice flat screen TV with a great choice of English channels. Also appreciated the flawless high-speed Internet throughout the house. TVs in the bedrooms and the AC in the living room would make a great property even better. Charge for electricity was modest at $45 a week, considering that it was the middle of summer and we ran the AC in both bedrooms 24-hours a day. Will definitely try to go back.

I have stayed in vacation rentals around the world and I must say Casa Lola ranks in the top 10. Its comfortable, clean, beautiful, and has great energy. Everything is well thought out to make your stay enjoyable. The check-in and out process was easy. Communication with our host was super helpful and responsive. Keep up the good work! I will book again.

Lovely historic town house with a pool. Fantastic location - close to everything. Spent 7 days here and hired a car for 2 days to visit Campeche and Uxmal. Very happy with everything. Host very helpful and communicative. Can highly recommend.

Casa Lola is a bit of Paradise. The high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling French doors, elegant grillwork, charming decorations, and romantic lighting create an enchanting ambiance. The pool and garden are lovely. The French Bakery, Escargot, is just a block over and that became our little second home in Merida. The owner and property managers could not be nicer. For us, it was a sort of writers' retreat. We did our writing on the terrace, took dips in the pool, and went out for dinner in the evenings. We could not have been happier with this experience.

Fully equipped home in a great location less than 10 minute walk to main square. It was a bit noisy since it was on a busy road, but quiet in the evenings for sleep. The pool was a great size, not a plunge pool. You could actually swim in it. The house was filled with beautiful Mexican decor. Only the bedrooms are air conditioned.

Casa Lola had everything we needed and was well situated relative to Merida center. This is a very comfortable home with interesting antiques, nice high ceilings and a perfect private pool! This is a perfect layout for one or two couples. I’ll stay again for sure!!

Absolutely Great Stay
Completely satisfied with our stay. Would stay here again and have already recommended to friends.
---Pros:
1- Location is perfect. Most everything in the city is within walking distance. We used our car only for out-of-town excursions. Parking spot was also set-up for us!
2- Property is amazing. It's more than I expected. Great lay out. Space is plenty and thought-through. Fun decor.
3- Property manager was very* responsive throughout or stay
4- Tech: good smartTV, WiFi, Stereo, etc.
5- Kitchen: Equipped! Actually. Minus dull-knives and perhaps lack of storage containers for extended stays, this is the best kitchen we've had in some time... maybe ever.
6- Pool: perfect temperature. 4.5? feet deep. Regularly serviced. Easily fits of family for lounging.
7- Thoughtful planning for guests: beach towels, guest book (needs updated), labels, maps, books, schedules (gardener, cleanings, etc), parking, etc.
---LessThanPros (these were not 'problems' but if you want the full picture):
1- Mosquitos were an issue in the second bedroom. Once this was identified, some bug spray & PJ pants solved the issue.
2- Beds are comfy... enough. No pain or discomfort, but we were happy to be back on ours.
3- Check-in/Check-out: the actual process* was easy. Super easy. But I had to 'track down' property manager the day of arrival because I hadn't received check-in info.
None of these are deal-breakers for me -- at all. But I find that different things matter to different people :)
You won't regret staying at Casa Lola. Not even a little bit. In fact, once you get to know the city a little, I'm sure you'll be glad* you scored Lola.

A great retreat in the heart of the city
The property is beautiful and well maintained, the pool is wonderful and there are lots of great restaurants, markets and other attractions within easy walking distance.
Even though it’s in the heart of the city, the high walls and foliage make it feel like a private oasis.
Every time we had a question, the manager or owner’s response was very quick and helpful.

Beautiful house
We really appreciate Janis' support as we were repeatedly delayed by Covid restrictions. We finally had a great holiday in the lovely Casa Lola. Great location for central Merida. Liz, the property manager and her team were excellent to deal with.

Beautiful home in heart of Colonial Merida.
The property description is very accurate. Ceiling fans throughout and both bedrooms have quiet a/c if needed as well. House is beautifully decorated with solid furniture, lovely Mayan textiles, good walk-in showers and comfortable beds. Once inside, the ambiance is like a retreat. Patio walls are high, so there is great privacy. The small school next door was not in session at this time. As Merida is the Yucatán, here may be mosquitoes at various times of the year, so recommend bringing insect repellant. I would definitely stay here again when in Merida.

Stay here, it's a gem!
Casa Lola is strategically located in safe walking distance to many neighborhoods of Merida. The photos on-line are an accurate representation of this beautifully decorated and well appointed property. The property manager was quick to respond to our questions prior to and during our stay. High marks go to the owners' excellent taste in decorating. We would most definately stay at this location again.

This beautiful home is exquisitely furnished and very comfortable. We used the refreshing pool daily! We really enjoyed the food and market at the nearby Santiago Mercado. Also very close to the main Plaza. Property manager was awesome and always available. We want to return soon!

Idyllic!
We had the most relaxing stay in this calm and beautiful setting. The backyard provides a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life in Merida. The house is large, airy and comfortable. Our only complaint is that the showers need to be modernized - the shower heads themselves are too high up on the wall and it is difficult to direct them. Lots of hot water though. Property management is very responsive and dealt with minor issues quickly. Overall, a delightful stay!

Perfect location
There were for of us (2 couples) starting for a week in Merida. The location could not have been better. Blocks from the different squares with music, restaurants, street vendors and more! Liz was the best. She answered text quickly, arranged for a taxi to the airport and made a great recommendation for car rental (Veloz on calle 60 was awesome). The pool was very refreshing after a day out. He aware of the electricity bill on the last day, which was very reasonable (654 pesos fo f 6 days of running fans and air conditioning). Hot water and shower water pressure was excellent as well. We would definitely stay here again.

Best Place in Town!
Casa Lola is beautiful and the property management team makes everything simple and comfortable. We stayed for almost 3 weeks and loved hanging out at home by the pool. If this place is available you should book it asap.

great location and experience
Great home in El Centro Merida architectural design is classic colonial and well executed. Buildings are built to property lines and Casa Lola uses skylights, lights wells and courtyard to make this a well lit gem. The tile floors are beautiful and elegant,
Well equipped and functional kitchen with indoor and outdoor dining options make this very livable. Air conditioning and ceiling fans keep the home comfortable as Merida is a very warm area. The high ceilings make the large rooms seem even larger. Local staff was very responsive and helpful,
Location close to many of the squares and parks and historic Paseo del Montejo, many great restaurants within easy walking distance. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and book for any future return.

Great Location/Beautiful Property
The house shows like a model home. I was surprised of the rules where it required us to clean our dishes yet charges a cleaning fee. The beds were not comfortable, and we left a day early because of the back issues the bed created for myself and my wife. The house is not children friendly with the second room located outside of the main house. Fortunately, there was a blow up mattress. There was also many easy to break items located through out the house. Other than that, we loved the look of the house and the location.

Awesome House, Perfect Location!
We have made many trips to Merida and have stayed in perhaps six or more different houses. I would say this one is the best.............it is a great house and such a fabulous location if you want to take advantage of all the downtown activities and restaurants.
Also the management team is by far the best I have encountered in Merida. Extremely responsive and attentive to all details.
I have to mention the house decor. I don't think I can adequately describe it and you won't believe it when you see it. They have collected all kinds of wonderful items.....I honestly don't know that I saw everything that is in the house. It just defies words.
Also very safe area, Street is quiet at night. Like all the other reviews have said, this house is first class!

Beautiful house in a great location!
The house is comfortable, beautifully decorated, and within walking distance of almost everything! We did have some challenges with the washing machine and no hot water on our last morning.

great location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Lola. The house is on a bus line but we barely noticed inside. The back patio and dip pool is where one can truly relax after spending fun in the heart of the historic central district! The appointments are very nice...they have done a great job of mixing the old with new, and melding cultures in their decorating. (so nice to have comfortable furniture in the salon!)
We had a great time there and would recommend this house as an excellent place for up to 2 couples.
My reason for not awarding a full 5 stars is due to not clearly realizing the cost of 2 incidentals...although small, it did seem as nickle and diming:
I would like to point out that if you are not staying a full week, you will be paying an additional $10-$12usd for parking on the next block.
It seems to be in vogue to charge extra for the electric bill at Merida transient rentals. I find it hard to believe that the electricity in Yucatan State is so much more than is is in Quintana Roo. I get that summer months use a lot of ac but they seem to manage just fine elsewhere.
Like I said, these are small disqualifiers but thought I would note them. If you haven't been to Merida, make your reservation now...you will love it!

Comfortable and restful stay at Casa Lola during Christmastime.
Casa Lola (CL) treated our family to a restful and relaxing 4 nights. Clean, well maintained and managed, we were very happy about our choice and alternative to a hotel, in beautiful historic Merida. As a young family of 4, our two kids (18 months and 4) by foot and baby carriers soaked up the old-town during a beautiful time of year. We spent a lot of time in the home while visiting and found CL very comfortable. CL supported our cooking (breakfast) and rests during the day. We had quiet and restful sleeps at night. Thanks to Liz and Janis (the owner) for your help and advise ahead of and during our stay. Janis, your home is a gem with the different antiques we wondered how many trips you must've taken to get some of them there. My personal favorites are the horse hitching posts. My wife and I highly recommend this property to families. We hope to come back in the future when our girls are older. Merida, its people and CL has left an impact on us.
A few points for those staying at CL:
-Additional electricity charge is minimal. $10 for us.
-Took about 5 minutes to run water for hot showers/dishes. Run pump in am for 10 minutes to get water for the day.
-Lockbox out front holds keys to get in (was not there when we arrived but was soon resolved) and when leaving
-Calle 66 can be car busy. Noise is limited to front room morning rush hour) and we found the back part of the house very peaceful. These noises did not bother us.
-Proximity to central square, markets, Paseo is 15 minutes by foot.
-Lots of restaurants, Good take out Pizza on Calle 57 around the corner
-Cars parked out front of CL on the street overnight. Calle 64 and Calle 59 has daytime parking.
-24 hour parking on Calle 62 at Calle 57 (beside La Chaya Maya). Very clean.
-Pool is not heated but its refreshing after a hot day of sightseeing. Pool cleaners
came one afternoon while we were in the residence at no disruption to us.

Wonderful home nestled in the heart of Centro Merida
Spacious and exotic feelings in the courtyard next to the pool. Ceiling fans throughout create a breeze where the need for air conditioners is forgotten. Fully stocked kitchen. Ample bath and beach towels. Purified water available in the kitchen for drinking and coffee. Location was excellent allowing walks to markets and restaurants. Irregular for HomeAways but totally normal for Merida’s homeaway is a small electricity charged for you actual use. This was about $20US per day. But totally offset by very reasonable nightly rates. Wish we could have stayed another 2-3 weeks. Thanks for a 6 Star HomeAway vacation.

A stay at Casa Lola is a special treat. Every aspect of the home is beautiful. We loved the pool area - and the soft sound of children playing was an added bonus. Book this house now and you will not be disappointed.
