Wonderful stay. The suite was clean, roomy and well equipped for two. The highway is close and noisy at times but inside is quiet. The James Ranch Grill (just down the road) has excellent locally sourced food.

The cottage was cozy and nicely decorated and furnished . Would have liked a deck facing the mountains as we like to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Bring your own washcloths, we only had 1 washcloth and 3 towels.

Quite a view from the back window overlooking the pastures and mountains... Place is very cozy to just read a book and glance out the window.... And of course head north on US 550 towards Silverton and Ouray and the scenery is breath taking... Don't forget to frequent the James Ranch Grill for lunch and dinner... stunningly fresh and healthy menu and for a excellent breakfast , head into down town Durango and eat at Oscars.

This property is fantastic. Very well designed with awesome views of the valley. Proximity to the James Ranch and the Durango hot springs really elevate it to the next level. Highly recommend booking this place.

Julie is a warm, friendly, wonderful host, who made us feel so very welcome! She provided everything we needed and more! And we were absolutely thrilled with the location ~ just a short walk to the James Ranch Grill and Market! The space was just perfect for us, and the views were spectacular!

James Ranch and the place at James Ranch are amazing. Julie has created a relaxing experience, wonderfully appointed with everything you could want or need. The view is amazing. We have stayed there twice and hope this won’t be the last. A true gem in all regards .

My Wife and I stayed at this amazing cottage on James Ranch for New Years Eve and day. The setting was perfect, the cottage above the old barn was beautifully done, comfortable, warm and romantic. We knew of James Ranch from many previous trips to the area, but we had never stayed on the property. There is no better place to stay than here. Waking up to stare out onto the pastures of the Animas river valley was amazing. We were greeted by the most amazing host, Julie, when we arrived. Julie made sure we were content and had everything we needed. The food at the James Ranch restaurant grill and the ranch market is also something to speak about...AMAZING. Both the dinner we had at the grill and then the fresh meal we picked up at the market were incredible. Imagine a homemade chicken pot pie, warming in the oven after a perfect day of skiing, having a smooth drink as the sun goes down over a pasture of grazing cattle, then a super comfortable bed and a cottage warmed by a fire, thats this place at James Ranch...we will definetly be back.

Julie and her sons were wonderful hosts. We loved the ranch store and the views of the cows and mountains. The courtyard and cabin had everything we could possibly need. CD

My wife and I stayed here for two nights during a mini-vacation within our state (we live in Denver). We timed the trip to coincide with peak fall foliage, and weren’t disappointed!
Julie is friendly and helpful during check-in and was accessible by text until we left. The unit is spotless, overlooks the James Ranch, and we slept very well, as it was very quiet and the Queen bed has an excellent mattress, sheets, and pillows. The eggs in the refrigerator were an added bonus!
If there was one thing I’d improve, I’d like Julie to stock the unit with shampoo and conditioner. There wasn’t any to be found, and Julie said they don’t provide them. Other than that little oops, the stay was perfect.
Oh, and the burgers at the James Ranch Grill, a quarter mile up the road, are to die for. Maybe the best burgers in Colorado!

My husband and I had a lovely stay at the cabin on James Ranch. The location enabled us to see the movements of the beef herd and we were very close to the Market and Grill for delicious food. The local farmers bring in fresh produce regularly. It’s just far enough away from Durango to feel spacious and see the stars and just close enough to go into town if you want to. Julie extends great hospitality; feels like a friend.

My wife and I stayed here this last week, and it was just beyond words to describe it. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The pictures do not do it justice. The picture windows look out over their large farm framed in by the beautiful mountains in the background. It was breathtaking. And the cabin is laid out perfectly for 2. The location is very close to Durango, and 5 minutes from the Durango Hot Springs. Nearby to the Million Dollar Highway, Silverton, etc…And this farm has an incredible market where they sell what they raise- vegetables, meats, cheeses, etc… mostly raised on their farm. And then the best thing of all is the Grill next to the Market where they sell the very best hamburgers on the planet and the meat and cheeses are farmed right there. Literally farm to table. Julie was amazing and even worked us in a day early. Over all this is a perfect stay! Again, these words cannot describe this home!

Stayed for three wonderul weeks. "A Place" was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It was close to hiking, biking, and other outdoor actvities, as well as Durango for dining and shopping. We never got tired of the front window view. Host Julie was great. We highly recommend staying there.

We liked the view of the mountain cliffs from the studio on the James Ranch and that it had all we needed to live there longterm. Julie Ott was very helpful and charming. From the studio we could hike in the mountains, eat in Durango, rest at their excellent public library (highly recommend) and take walks along the Animas River. As walkers, we would have liked to have a path at the studio that we could use to walk without having to go far. Excellent place close to a busy highway. We miss it already.

Really enjoyed our stay at A Place at James Ranch. Convenient to Durango and Silverton, just down the road from Honeyville, yet isolated from all of those. Though James Ranch is a working ranch, staying on the property is not a "ranch" experience, though the market and restaurant are good and watching the cows get milked in the morning was a unique experience. The hospitality couldn't have been better and my wife and I enjoyed our time there.

Fabulous cottage, amazing views, and on a working ranch! 10 minutes from Durango. Organic market near by run by the super nice host. Stocked with everything you will need and the personal touches that make renting from an owner so fantastic. So fortunate to stay here!!

My wife and I stayed at James Ranch for a couple nights while on a weeklong road trip. We had a wonderful stay! Communication with Julie, the owner of the property was great. She was very detailed and quick to respond. Her and her family have made a very comfortable place to stay. The space has everything you need and if you’re lucky you might find a half dozen farm fresh eggs in the fridge when you arrive. We enjoyed the grill and marketplace just 1/4 of mile down the road. I’d definitely recommend staying here, very peaceful and relaxing.

So happy we found this hidden gem. Comfortable for two adults and two children. Views are majestic right out of bedroom windows. No A/C required here windows open will make you comfortable.
Very quiet, and cool property. Nice driving to town and tons to do. Folks are lovely and inviting. We will come back when we can stay longer. It’s exactly what we needed to just get away from it all.

This was a beautiful retreat to rest and unwind at the tail end of our two week vacation of hiking and exploring the National Parks in Southern Utah and Western Colorado. We enjoyed relaxing in this cozy cabin and watching the cows and their calves! Spring is just perfect here! Thank you for sharing your little slice of paradise with us.

This place is the cozy cabin of your dreams! There are two large windows that bring the view and a gas stove that is so charming! This place is comfy and charming! We even found a bowl of fresh eggs and some butter in the refrigerator! Yum!

Rustic and homey, but with all the convenience of home. Beautiful views, prime location and accommodating hosts.

We had such relaxing time! Rustic to me refers to the homey ranch feel, not pretentious, yet attention given to the things that were important. We were pleasantly surprised by the quietness, even though being so close to the main road. Location was great for what were looking for, and we truly melted! Thank you!

Loved spending time in this light, bright, comfy home. The host, Julie is fantastic and a visit to the James Ranch Market and the Grill were an unforgettable experience. I could have sat and watched the cows from the window for hours and the views of the peaks across the valley are amazing. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

We loved every aspect of our stay at The James Ranch. The hospitality and warmth of everyone associated with the ranch made our stay extra special.
The home is equipped with every comfort and we enjoyed views from inside by the fireplace and outside, touring around the ranch.
Durango, with its myriad of activities never disappoints and we enjoyed fall colors, biking, Mesa Verde and the steam train to Silverton.
We’ll be back!

Just off the road which makes it noisy and next door to owner. They are great and we didn't even see them. The view from inside the cottage is amazing. Just wish you could see more from the outdoor space. Cute rustic cottage.
