We spent a week here in August-
Swam off end of dock-tied 2 boats and a jet ski to the dock easily. There were stairs to water but that was listed ahead and our crew was able to manage without a problem. We used the bunkhouse and appreciated it! Kitchen was well stocked and it even had a crockpot! Hosts were responsive and even called before the week to give info and help prepare! Great value for a great stay!

The property was as described. Being able to use our boat that we brought along was very easy and the lake was very nice. The only drawback for us was not having a table that seats 6 for meals together or playing games.

Location was perfect and there was plenty of room for our entire family. My wife and I had the upstairs bedroom, my oldest daughter and her fiancé had the downstairs, and our twin 18 year olds shared the bunk house. We all had some private space, but also plenty of room to spend time together. Location is nicely secluded, but also a short drive to anything you want to explore in Hayward. The property is very well maintained by Jon and Andrea and they have everything and then some that you could want or need. We will definitely be returning as long as they’ll have us!! We couldn’t have asked for a better family getaway before we get busy planning a wedding and sending our twins off to college! Thank you so much Jon and Andrea for a great experience!! Also, if you don’t have a boat, the Nelson Resort is very close by and rents well maintained pontoon boats for a reasonable price.

Smaller than some of the cabins we have rented but it was clean, nice beds and beautiful view of the lake. The stairs to the lake and back were good exercise. Was a great vacation.

We had a wonderful time. We always enjoy being on Nelson Lake and the fishing. The house was well stocked, clean and perfect. The owners were very helpful and so nice and came and helped us clean up after a bear got into the garbage outside. We had a great time, beautiful weather and will definitely be back.

This is the third time we’ve stayed at this property; such a great place to stay. We greatly appreciate the fully stocked kitchen and love the updates to the main floor bathroom!

Jon was a very gracious host who made us feel very welcomed.

This Nelson Lake home was a very clean and comfortable place for our group of 6 to stay while enjoying the Hayward area. The hosts were thoughtful in all they included to make it as easy as possible to move right in and start relaxing. We had grandparents (70s), my husband and I (40s), two kids (preteen) and a Lab, and we really enjoyed how the multiple levels allowed us to spread out. The kids loved to adjourn to the "bunkhouse" with full bed and in-wall electric fireplace. Our dog was happy hanging out on the upstairs deck, exploring the backyard with the long cable leashes that were provided, or going for early morning walks on the safe and quiet Hard Rock/Cty T loop. The adults appreciated the comfortable beds and furniture, on-site laundry, and all the extras that are quite often not included, such as toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap and laundry soap. The host also got in touch the week before our rental to make sure we had his contact info and to answer any questions we had ahead of time.
Yes, there are steps to the lake, but we didn't find them to be any more taxing than at other homes with that setup in the Hayward area--of which there are many. A couple extras that might be nice in the future would be additional hooks or shelves in the downstairs bedroom closet and bath, but overall we were extremely impressed by the hospitality shown by Jon and the spotless and well-stocked home we enjoyed for the past week.

We loved our stay at this pet-friendly rental property with beautiful views of Nelson Lake. We rented a pontoon boat from a local vendor and had good luck fishing. Lots of local restaurants and events, too. The dozens of stairs to water's edge might be a challenge for elderly guests, but we're late middle-aged and had no trouble. Host was extremely responsive and helpful. We hope to return!

House was cleaned well and had everything we needed for the stay. The owner was very accommodating and responded quickly when I had questions. The lake it is located on is nice and the fishing is good. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and it was a nice getaway.

We had a great time here. We mostly fished and went to Hayward’s downtown.

Loved this stay so much, and will definitely be back! Location is incredible! It's close enough to town while feeling tucked away and private. We were scheduled to check in in the midst of a huge storm, and the host was so gracious and generous with helping us navigate that. He was on top of shoveling, salting, etc. and was great about checking in!

This is our second time staying at this property and it was fantastic again (even despite the rainy/snowy conditions). The beds are comfy and the fireplace is lovely. I also greatly appreciate on-site laundry. Thanks again for a great stay!

Really nice place to stay and excellent owner to communicate with. Very well stocked for the kitchen and bathrooms and a beautiful view of the lake. We're hoping to go back next year.

Everything was just great, except there was alot of stairs to the lake.

The house is great, pretty basic.the one beds is out in a shed in the drive way which is kind of neat idea.beds were very comfortable.there is ALOT of stairs I'm talking 86 or 87 of them.not a total deal breaker though if you got strong knees.fishing was ok,lots of sunnys, also caught a bas,a few small notherns, and 1 walleye.look up slot limits on Nelson lake though if you come to catch/eat fish.otherwise over all we were all happy with our stay!

Great place.
It was very clean when we arrived. The place had everything we needed. Fishing was great on the lake.

Our stay was relaxing. Convenient location to Hayward, boat launch and other outdoor activities. We lost power to house one evening because of storms that came through the area. John reached out to us the following morning on when the power would be back. Brought out portable generator to help keep refig powered to help save food. Good host

We really enjoyed our stay on Nelson Lake. The cabin was much bigger than in the pictures and very clean. The back deck was wonderful for drinking coffee, grilling and hanging out. We enjoyed the privacy this property provided. We enjoyed both the fireplace and bonfire pit. Fishing was awesome and so was swimming, off the dock and at near by sandy shorelines. There are a lot of stairs down to the dock, but they are well maintained and safe. We would definitely go back!

Very nice
We enjoyed our stay here. Property was clean, downstairs nicely updated, all the amenities. As advertised there's quite alot of stairs down to dock, harder for some of us older folks. View from top deck is obstructed some. Other then that was a nice time.

Relaxation!
Great cabin, and great lake for fishing. Able to walk right down to our boat and escape life stresses! Thank you for the opportunity to unplug and relax for a few days.

Super clean cabin with lots of room
This property was amazing! There was room for everyone with the remodeled lower level and outside bunkhouse. The cabin was spotless and everything we needed was provided (except food, of course). There was great fishing on the lake and a beautiful view from the patio furniture. Loved it!

Excellent weekend
We came up from southern Minnesota. Rode the atv trails, rented a pontoon and fished the lake. And very much appreciated our place to stay! Very clean, very well stocked for your needs along with excellent customer service from Jon! Area is so beautiful and peaceful. Except the loons calling at night (kidding) Really want to come back next year!

My family and I had a great time! I need to start by saying how impressed we were with how clean the house was upon our arrival and how well equipped the place is. The kitchen was very good and well equipped - this was important since we cooked in most of the time due to having two vegetarians and one gluten sensitive - not a lot of restaurant choices in the area! The beds were comfy and plenty of hot water. Speaking of water, the house has a deep well so the water is amazing! It is the best tasting water probably ever. On another note the lake is spectacular! If you are a fisherman you'll be in heaven. There is plenty of room for both power sports and more Earth friendly sports. We did lots of kayaking and due to this being a man made lake there are lots of quiet areas to explore. There are also several restaurants on the lake to explore - you could spend your entire vacation on the lake and never leave! Of course there are nice things to do do in Hayward too.

We had a nice stay at this Nelson Lake home but there were pros and cons.
Pros-
-Jon and Andy were very friendly and very helpful when it came to something we needed when we were staying at the house.
- The house was stocked quite well and had almost everything we needed for our stay.
-Nelson Lake was beautiful. We sat on the deck a lot watching the water and listening to the loons.
-The beds were very comfortable.
-My 15 year old niece enjoyed the bunk house. It was perfect size for her and very cozy.
-The washer and dryer were very convenient.
-Having wifi and cable for the kids after a long day at play was really nice and appreciated!
-We were close to town and Four Seasons resort. We took the boat to on Friday night and enjoyed a delicious fish fry.
Cons-
-That walk up from the lake was killer. We knew the house is on elevation and we knew there were stairs. So nothing against the homeowners... but please know that if anyone in your group has knee, hip or other health issues... this is probably not the place for you.
-We were told that the swimming area was nice down by the dock. It was sandy but not really easily accessible so we went to the beach at Smith Lake a couple days just to swim.
-There were no curtains in the bunk house or in the downstairs living room. It probably isn't an issue but our 6 year old slept on the pull out couch and the sunrise (beautiful) had him up before 6AM since it shines directly into the window. My niece didn't feel totally comfortable in the bunk house without curtains at night.
-The house wasn't as clean as I would've liked. We had several dishes that needed to be rewashed, the downstairs bathroom had splatter on the mirror, I cleaned the lint trap on the dryer that clearly hadn't been cleaned out in several cycles, there were cobwebs and spider webs throughout the house and outside (obviously you can't always help that), the mattress pad in the bunk house had large stains on it.
-The furniture was pretty out of date. The pull out bed was fine for our 6 year old but not comfortable for an adult. Although, the green chair in the living room was pretty great!
-The upper deck was really nice but lacked decent furniture. I was glad we brought extra camp chairs to put out there.
Overall we had a good stay and we really liked Nelson Lake but we probably wouldn't stay here again. Jon and Andy are very nice and I wanted people to know it's a decent little cottage, it's just not for us.

Great cabin for families & remote work
My family of 4 (+ 2 dogs) stayed a week in this cabin and it was an easy, relaxing experience. The kids were happy with wading and playing in the shallow lake, we watched movies at night, and on the days I had to work the internet was surprisingly fast. The whole space was clean and well maintained, and it was great to have A/C on those weird 90-degree days we had. Close to town too!
