About this house rental
Phoenix Nest, our romantic and spectacular oceanfront vacation home, is nestled on two glorious acres of forest right on the ocean.
The 2500 square foot, newly remodeled home is bright and airy and includes a 44-foot living room with windows throughout overlooking the ocean. The two master bedroom suites also have unsurpassed, sweeping views of the ocean. The house has great privacy. You can hear the waves crash and see the osprey and gulls fly by as the low tide unveils the rocks and sandy beach. Watch gorgeous sunsets from the deck or hot tub.
From the hot tub, enjoy watching sea lions surfing or resting on the rocks on the Havens Neck peninsula. We often see gray and humpback whales and recently blue and killer whales spouting and occasionally breaching out of the ocean.
The bluff is like a garden, covered with plants and natural wildflowers. Known as the 'banana belt,' nearby rivers provide a more fog-free and temperate climate than other coastal areas.
Please No Children, Pets Or Smoking Allowed
Unparalleled Beauty: Dear Pat,
We were greeted by deer and the gentle barking 'hellos' of the sea lions. The house is so comfortable--more space than we imagined and the light so wonderful.. The view rates in our top three--following the Grand Canyon, Positano, Italy and tied with Villa Cinciano in Tuscany. As we say farewell to the deer and sea lions, we'll promise to return and will always remember the beauty by day and the peaceful blanket of the Milky Way by night.
Thank you for sharing your spectacular home with us.

The house was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. A pleasant surprise was the spice drawer. I am used to vrbo properties usually only having salt and pepper. The views from every room were stunning. We enjoyed listening to the sea lions and watching the fog roll in and out. I'd definitely stay here again. Pat the host was great.

This house has absolutely AMAZING views! Two walls of just big windows in the living area. Huge window in the dining area with a little desk if you want to be on the computer and still look at the sea lions and the Pacific Ocean! We saw and listened to sea lions everyday! I have stayed in many VRBO houses before and this house is definitely the most well stocked house that I have ever rented. The kitchen has EVERYTHING. Beautiful and plentiful dishes, pots and pans. A toaster and toaster oven. Very nice coffee maker. Beautiful clean white towels in the bathrooms. Extra towels of every type in the washer and dryer area. The owners definitely go out of their way to make sure that their guests have everything they need and are comfortable.
Very nice hiking at the Gualala Art Center which is just a short drive from the house.
We loved the restaurant in town called VUE. It had views of the ocean at every table.
AND last but not least I loved the weather. It was so nice to get away from the heat and humidity!

My wife and I stayed here for a little over a week to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It was an awesome getaway. The house is perfect. The view from the deck and the house is amazing. Would highly recommend.

Our stay at Phoenix Nest greatly exceeded our expectations. The photos in the listing are good, however they did not prepare us for the jaw-dropping views from the property, they are truly spectacular. The home is very spacious and is larger in person than it appears in the photos. It is comfortable and has been thoughtfully furnished and decorated. This trip was very important to us as it was our first trip out of the city in four years and was also to celebrate my partner’s 60th birthday and Phoenix Nest proved to be the perfect destination. We loved it so much we didn’t feel the need to leave it, we preferred to spend our days relaxing on the patio and using the BBQ for our meals. We are already planning our next visit!

Best vrbo experience I've had. Normally the pictures are better than real life. This time real life was better than the pictures. Communication was great. Home was clean and comfortable. Will be back for sure.

The house has stunning ocean views and could not have been better! The house has everything you need and is exceptionally comfortable. It felt like we were staying at a friend’s home with beautiful artwork, kitchen, and overall design. I highly recommend this beautiful gem!

It truly was a beautiful and relaxing place to be to whisk our daily cares away and enjoy the creation around us.
Pat, our Host, was so very accommodating.

The first sentence I said upon arriving at Phoenix Nest and briefly inspecting it was: "If we had the means I would buy this or something like this and leave East Bay for good."
We take short vacations on Mendocino Coast a couple of times a year for a long time now, but we *never* have seen anything more beautifully situated or with better views. The house itself is large and pleasant, well furnished and well stocked.
WiFi is reliable and fast (cell is neither), so I highly recommend using Phoenix Nest for "working vacations": with the remote work being now the default mode of Silicon Valley I did have to tell my boss that I'll be away for 4 days, and neither have you...

This is an amazing property! The views exceeded the photos…..absolutely spectacular. This is a comfortable and well maintained home. Probably the most relaxing vacation we’ve had. The kitchen is well equipped. We didn’t feel any need to eat out. We enjoyed the quiet and the stars with a glass of wine in the hot tub every night. Easy access to Gualala for groceries. Owner is very responsive to communications.
This was an anniversary/ birthday trip that more than met our expectations.

Our host Pat was amazing. She sent us a list of activities nearby and was very responsive. She also treated us to a bottle of sparkling wine for our stay. The location is terrific, with a breathtaking view. There are a lot of activities nearby. The towns are small, quaint and very relaxing and the locals were so friendly. We enjoyed the deck and hot tub, both were perfect for relaxing or taking in the sunset. Highly recommend, would definitely stay again!

We loved it. Beautifully designed and decorated. Spectacular location. We would have liked staying much longer to delay our return to the "real world".
We look forward to returning again and again.
Pat, thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

What more can be said that other reviewers haven’t already raved about? Simply put, this place is a heaven like no other! For me, had been at least 4 years without a true vacation and staying here for a few nights was something we chose to start off a longer trip in hopes of decompressing first. Within an hour of arriving, we saw whales and seals and sat on the comfy couch just staring out the window at the closest, most unobstructed, and “personal” view of the Pacific Coast we could never have imagined possible. I was instantly melted into the relaxation I had been craving for years! We got lucky to experience what seemed like every type of weather to be able to experience the changes it brought to the views. When it was cold and rainy, we were snug and warm in the house! The kitchen was perfectly equipped to be able to make dinner “at home” which only added to our relaxation. One day, we made it to the north beach of the private land preserve and were stunned to be able to witness so much unspoiled nature-in-action right before our eyes.
The house was very clean and well kept and had one of everything that you’ll need for some decompression time of your own. You will never want to leave!

We had a terrific anniversary at this home and everything was perfect and the views were amazing. The home is very close to numerous beaches with access to a private beach as well. A outdoor deck, perfect for reading (the owners have a wonderful collection of books) and lounging. And a very thoughtful host. The hot tub was great and the beds were very comfortable. I would say "amazing" best describes our stay.

Spacious, comfortable, bright, cheerful super clean home. Nice bed. Large kitchen. Awesome location on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Clean, functioning hot tub. Fabulous views. Incredible reading library. Very relaxing. We had a wonderful time. 5 stars all around.

We loved our stay at Phoenix Nest! Absolutely loved that we could hear the waves and sea lions from the house. We couldn’t be peeled away from either the deck, the couch in front of the large SW facing windows or the hot tub. It was great to get some true rest and relaxation from the fast paced life we live at home.

Truly wonderful views and nice house. Sunsets in the hot tub are amazing. Downstairs bathroom could use updating but all else is well. Very comfortable beds.

Staying at Pat’s home was perfect for my mom, sister and I. My mom is 86 and I needed to find a place with bedroom and living areas on one level and had a view. It exceeded my expectations.
My mom only had to sit by the window or go on the deck to take in the breathtaking beauty.
My sister and I could walk to Haven’s Neck to get a closer look at the seals. The home includes a key to access this private sanctuary.
When you are in this home you feel like you are on top of the ocean. It is unforgettable.

Unparalleled surroundings and a comfortable home filled with unique art and furnishings. We love relaxing at the house, enjoying the hot tub and exploring the beautiful Gualala area. Hikes on the trails, picnics on the beach and wine and sunsets on the deck. Wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing Phoenix Nest.

The pictures don’t do it justice. Pat/Sid’s home is beautiful. We didn’t need for anything and loved it! So clean, beautifully appointed, multiple/great sitting areas to watch sea lions (the binoculars were great!), watch/listen to the waters, and daily naps. A perfect vacay for us to celebrate our retirement/anniv/bdays. At the Sat farmers market, we had Gabriel’s delicious tacos Al pastor and got some homemade Chinese chili oil. (To die for!) The bakery and markets had everything we needed, including cooking dinners, building a nightly fire in the great room and enjoying the hot tub while watching the sunsets. (Anchor bay for Thai takeout, tacos from Seafood shack) Day trip to the Point Arena lighthouse and Mendocino (Trillium for lunch, Meyer Family Cellar tasting room-you will get taken good care of by Casey) Pat was east to reach, if needed. we hope to be back soon! Thank you!

Spent a wonderful week here. Such a special location and access included with this listing. House was well stocked with anything you may need! Wonderful communication with the owner as well. This was our second time staying “on the coast” In the point arena area and this house made it even more special.

We loved our stay at Havens Nest. The views were spectacular and we enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the flocks of birds soar by and peering at the elephant seals' antics across the bay. We appreciated that the kitchen was well-appointed. We had everything we needed to prepare most of our meals there. And the bedding and mattress was super comfortable. We found many gorgeous hiking trails nearby. Our favorite was Salt Point bluff trail about 45 minute drive south where we saw an explosion of wildflowers. We will return.

Simply amazing location! I was there with a good friend and both of us needed to have some getaway time. Having two bedrooms meant we also had our privacy. Beds are very comfortable. The description is accurate and truthful. The views from every room are spectacular! Pat is a great hostess and always responded to my questions within minutes.
This would be a great place for a romantic getaway or for two couples. Don't miss driving up the coast to Mendocino (eat at Trillium Cafe!), but remember to fill up with gas before... I was nearly on empty and the only gas station there charged almost $10/gallon!
Another great thing to do is to take CA128 to the Anderson Valley for great wine tasting... Navarro and Hush wineries are very good.
For nearby eating, we tried and loved, the Vue Coastal Kitchen.

Our visit was fantastic. The property is private, but super close to town. Watching the sunset each night was a special treat. Great kitchen and internet- so we were set!

My sister and I had a wonderful time at Phoenix Nest! The sound of the waves could be heard inside as well as outside the house the whole time — it washes the tension right out of your body! The views were unbelievable. The owner was very responsive. The house was equipped with everything we needed, including binoculars at every window location in the house so we could see the harbor seals and the various birds which soared past the house during the day! This was the highlight of our 3-week road trip so far. We should have stayed a whole week!

Phoenix nest was everything we hoped for. The views from every single room were magnificent - from the view of ocean waves crashing on the peninsula from the master bedroom and sunset views from the living room to the gorgeous landscape and forest view from the kitchen. We had a special trip for just the two of us but this would be a great spot for two couples to call home for a few days. The setup allows for views and privacy from both bedrooms and plenty of room to hang out together in the living room or catch the sunset on the deck. The house was perfectly clean and as described. We had all the linens, towels, pillows, blankets we needed and the kitchen was stocked for cooking. Pat was available and communicative and had some wonderful recommendations for other beaches as well as for a nice dinner just a few minutes down the coast.
We particularly enjoyed our walk down to the preserve and had the pleasure of viewing sea lions (from afar, thanks for the binoculars!) on the north beach. We also met the sheep! It was such a treat to experience that beautiful place.
We hope to return again. The only thing we will change is to ensure we get to stay longer next time!

Phoenix Nest is a wonderful property--really private and remote, yet within 10 minutes of stores and restaurants. The views from the upstairs great room (dining/den/living/TV area) are jaw-dropping. Because the weather was quite chilly and windy (and a bit rainy) while we were there, we were able to enjoy the views while being comfortable indoors. The bedrooms are large and well-appointed...and we loved looking over the extensive collection of books on the shelves in several rooms. The galley kitchen is big enough, and remarkably well stocked with dishes/glasses, pots and pans, flatware/gadgets, and appliances. Even the herbs and spices drawer was filled with options.
The hot tub on the deck was delightful...warm water offset by the chilly air surrounding us. And the sunset view while soaking...!!!
Owner Pat was great, answering all questions pretty much immediately.
Overall, we loved our stay there, and it was a great jumping off point for locations east, north and south.
We hope to return at a future time to enjoy more of the beauty and comfort.

The views were amazing! Nice place to have a quiet retreat. The town was charming and had everything we needed.

Our first visit to Phoenix Nest and this is the beginning of many more. We have been coming to the Mendocino area for over 20 years and have never stayed in Gualala. We loved it…everything is so low key and relaxing. The house is warm and welcoming and really provides an atmosphere for real rejuvenation. The location is amazing. You feel like you are on a boat treehouse and the ocean is right there. The sound of the waves provides a soothing background for reading, sleeping or relaxing with a nice glass of wine. The house is super clean and has everything you need to feel at home. The bonus is that the hosts, Pat and Sid, are very responsive and really interested in making sure your stay is everything you want it to be. We can’t wait to come back!

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had high expectations going in, given the reviews, and the experience even exceeded those expectations. We spent so much time staring out into the ocean from the couch and hot tub, mystified by the view. We also loved taking small trips into Gualala for coffee & food and coming back to this cozy home. The home is well decorated and incredibly spacious. I'm already thinking about the next time I can come back.
On top of all this, Pat is an exceptional host. Pat answered all my questions in a timely manner and was so kind and friendly throughout. This was a 10/10 stay.
Thank you Pat for opening up your home to VRBO so we could experience the magic of the Gualala coast.

Incredible location on the ocean! We could hear the waves crashing all day and night, and even the occasional seal barking. Can't be beat for the view.
The beds were super comfortable and the house was adequately appointed with everything we needed. The indoor spaces provided multiple options for relaxing, reading, enjoying the view, watching TV, etc.
The hot tub was wonderful and provided an impressive view of the ocean and the stars.

We are frequent visitors to the Gualala area but this was our first stay at Phoenix Nest, and it brought the trip to an entirely new level. The view is amazing, and the house is clean, bright, comfortable, and well-stocked just as the other guests have described. The only thing that I can add to other reviews is that because the house is so very close to the water, we were able to see beautiful bioluminescent plankton glowing in the ocean on the first night of our stay. This is something I have hoped to see my whole life, and I couldn't believe that we were able to finally see this magical phenomenon while remaining comfortably indoors! A once in a lifetime experience for sure.

Phoenix Nest is a magical place on so many levels. The natural beauty of the Phoenix Nest location & surroundings easily stimulates all your senses while being totally relaxed. The layout of Phoenix Nest provides plenty of comfortable living space. The main living space on the top floor has four living zones for everyone to enjoy as a group or individually; dining, entertainment (tv), lounging in front of wood burning fireplace or sinking into the cozy sectional couch looking out over the ocean through floor to ceiling windows. Just open the door leading to the outside deck. The sound & smell of the surf fills the room with a calming sound & aroma only the ocean can provide. Four good binoculars are provided by the host to take in all the marine life & natural beauty. A person can spend the entire day on the outdoor deck and feel their day was completely fulfilled. Your sense of taste can easily be stimulated creating meals in the more than adequately equipped kitchen. The knives at Phoenix Nest are sharper than the knives you have at home. If the Gualala Supermarket, less than 6 miles from Phoenix Nest, doesn’t have what you need for making delicious meals then you’re trying to hard, relax. Steeler Nation is alive & well at Phoenix Nest. We informed Pat, Phoenix Nest host, we are Pittsburgh Steeler fans. I asked Pat if the Phoenix Nest TV provider included the NFL Network ( so we could watch Steeler football on Christmas Eve) she said she was not a sports fan and most likely did not have the NFL Network as part of her TV entertainment. Pat, went above & beyond & contacted her TV provider and negotiated a deal that provided us with the joy of watching Steeler football on Christmas Eve 2022. Thank you Pat!! Oh, did I forget to mention the pristinely clean hot tub, well use your imagination. Don’t forget to checkout Haven’s Neck private preserve. We had a fantastic time at Phoenix Nest and are confident you will too.
