Mango House is a well-appointed modern 2BR 2BA stilt house duplex with an open floor plan, located on its own private lake. The view East from the front of the house is into a protected wildlife refuge owned by the Sanibel/Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF). The view West from the backyard screened-in lanai is across our beautiful lake into another protected wildlife refuge owned by the 'Ding' Darling Wildlife Sanctuary. Sunsets viewed from the Mango House lanai are absolutely breathtaking.
The spacious Mango House master bedroom has a king-sized bed, private bathroom and a private balcony. The Mango House guest bedroom has a queen-sized bed, separate bathroom and a private balcony. Both bed mattresses were replaced new in 2023. With a large desk area, the guest bedroom can also double as an office. Both bedrooms are light and airy, with plenty of window space and sliding glass doors leading to each balcony.
Mango House is configured with a large living area where the kitchen, dining room, and living room are all open to each other - with four sliding glass doors that access the large Mango House Lanai.
The Mango House Beach is unspoiled and secluded. Only private homes have access to our beach - No condominiums or resorts - so it is never crowded. The sand is clean and pure. The shelling is spectacular! Share the beach with osprey, pelicans, herons, egrets, sandpipers, dolphins, sea turtles and more...
Leave all of your beach gear and bikes behind (!) as Mango House comes with all the beach and recreation equipment (chairs, umbrellas, coolers, shovels, pails, mask/fins/snorkels, noodles, tennis rackets, frisbees, etc....) as well as several aluminum beach cruiser bicycles. Bikes have baskets, helmets and locks. There is also a bicycle trailer. We also provide numerous books (a full library with over 350 titles in three bookcases), numerous puzzles, games, and 80+ DVD's to help you enjoy your stay. Another "essential" is our outdoor Hot/Cold shower (under the backyard lanai).
Mango House is centrally located to island shopping and restaurants with easy access to bike paths that cover the entire island. Our secluded beach with private access is 1/2 mile away. The Ding Darling Wildlife Sanctuary entrance is even closer. Both the San-Cap Conservation Foundation and Sanibel Recreation Center are less than 1 mile away.
Mango House has Xfinity high-speed Wireless Internet. Email your friends or conduct business wireless from anywhere you wish - including the Mango House Lanai! We also have a large flat screen panel TV in the living room with a DVD player. This is compatible with streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO Max, ESPN, Disney, etc...
Mango house sits atop a huge garage with ample room for car storage. We have several coconut palms, numerous saw palms, and a mature mango tree (that survived Hurricane Ian!). Help yourself!

Mango House is exactly as described-clean, convenient location, well appointed etc. We stayed 5 weeks and the kitchen, washer/dryer, garage space for bikes was what we needed. Sanibel is still recovering but bike paths, beaches, one grocery, several restaurants are open. Communication with the host was excellent.

It is spotless and has everything you could want or need. Communication with the owner/manager is easy and responsive. We never had an issue. Everything is as described and went perfectly. If the property was directly on the beach is the only way it could be better!

I want to thank you for sharing your home. It was the perfect getaway. The Mango House is stocked with everything that was needed (I way over packed). It was very clean and looked to be freshly painted (inside and out). It had plenty of storage (loved the Ikea closet system in master bedroom). I would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.
Gorgeous sunsets from lanai!

Mango House
Nice layout; awesome lanai overlooking sunsets toward the lake. The place was quiet and well maintained. The beach is a 5 min bike ride away and is very quiet and lovely. 400 Rabbits Restaurant is a close walk up Rabbit road for Margaritas and Mexican food. The Rabbit Road bike path is a short walk away also. We would stay here again.

Living like a local at Mango house
The Mango House was the perfect place for me to work/vacation from. I loved watching the sun come up and seeing the birds in the backyard pond. Sunsets were amazing. Mango house had everything I needed. A JN Ding Darling bike ride was almost a daily occurrence along with the beautiful beach, just a short bike ride away. It was quiet, clean and the beds were comfy. Having the garage was a giant plus for me. I was lucky enough to be able to meet the owners and their family. Everything went smoothly and I will be back next year. Loved it and already missing it.

Mango Love
Mango House is conveniently located near bike paths, nature preserves (five minutes from Ding Darling), shopping and dining. Private beach access is an enjoyable walk or a short bike ride away. Keep an eye out as you cross the Sanibel River for alligators or a native bird feeding frenzy! Choose a book from one of the well stocked bookshelves and enjoy the screened in lanai for a good read or afternoon siesta. The lake behind the property comes to life as the sun rises and sets over the island. The bike path that runs along the lake is excellent for wildlife viewing and makes for an easy ride to the beach. The owner did not intrude and was very easy to work with. We especially enjoyed the waterfall and landscaping features installed by the adjoining duplex owner, who is an extremely talented landscape designer. The outdoor shower is wonderful!

Wonderful quiet place
A great benefit of staying in Mango House is that it is very quiet and we particularly enjoyed the wild life in the small lake behind us. WE also like the simplicity of the furnishing etc. And a great library of best sellers!

Paradise
Mango House was a perfect stay for Sanibel. I loved the funky and colorful decorating, which made it a happy place to be. We thoroughly enjoyed the huge porch overlooking the lake with all of the wildlife flying around the place. Seeing the ducks mating was quite the spectacle and seeing Bernie, the alligator. There is a fence between the lake and house. The mattresses were both brand new and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, which was good because we did lots of cooking there while watching the lake through the sliding glass doors. The TV was also new, which made watching the Clemson win even better. We went to the beach 2 ways. One, biking down Rabbit Road, where the drivers were very courteous and drove around us. Two, going toward Sanibel-Captiva Road, then taking the beautiful Rabbit Road West trail, which is behind the lake. The private beach has the BEST shelling on all of the island. We know because we tried them all. We found more unusual and rare shells on this beach, including 2 Alphabet Cones and a large Whelk shell. There were few people on this beach and all are close by home owners who were very friendly. No mass tourist invasion on this beach. We met Jay and Laura and found them very helpful and charming and always quick with answers to any questions we had. Their favorite restaurant, RC Otter’s, was ours, too. They had lots of great recommendations. Having the free, well maintained bikes and chairs was very convenient. Another wonderful feature was the nearness to Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. We had a senior pass and went every day at low tide or around 4:00. We saw beautiful rosette spoonbills fluffing their wings. What a sight! We cried when we had to leave and are definitely coming back next December.

Very nice but some issues
The house was bright and cheerful and very well equipped. The owners were friendly and eager to please. The very few glitches were taken care of immediately.
That said, there were issues. We had two guests for the week who had the same impressions we did. While the printed materials and pictures are truthful they create an inaccurate impression unless you read it all very carefully.
First Rabbit Road is a very busy thoroughfare and walking it is not as comfortable as it might be. The distance to the beach is considerably longer than the impression created. It is also very easy to misunderstand that there is only cable television in the living room. As to pictures, they are edited so that you cannot be aware that the building is a duplex and not a freestanding one family. As to that the next door neighbor and driveway sharer has a thriving landscaping business. Her garage doors are always open; there is some traffic in and out; and at night it looks like a truck terminal with a huge open bed truck parked for the night
The house was well kept. The advertised yard maintenance was non existent.
None of this ruined our time but things were not perfect. Overall we had a good time.

Clean, cute, comfortable and well equipped!
We thoroughly enjoyed the property. Loved its proximity to Ding Darling -- a short bike ride away -- for our birding. Very private.

Nice place to stay on Sanibel Island
I spent the month of December at Mango House and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The house is well appointed and offers visitors close access to the beach, Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, and Doc Ford's Restaurant- all withing walking distance!! The owners provide bicycles for those who choose to use them. I used the house as a base for birding and photography, and it was very well situated for those activities. The neighbors are quite friendly and helpful- that's a plus. It was a nice stay, and I found the owners to be very responsive to any questions or issues. They made wonderful recommendations for places to eat and visit. Anyone who stays here will surely enjoy it.

Wonderful place
This has been my second year renting the Mango House. This home is so comfortable you feel at home! The Mango House is equiped with every thing you need. It is also centrally located to so many wonderful activities. The beach is very private, the sunsets off the Lanai are breath taking. The Mango House is great for families with many books, games and videos to keep you entertained. I would highly recommend this house, you won't be disappointed!

Deserves 5 stars and more
We are getting ready to pack up after a wonderful month at Mango House. We liked it so much, we are booked for next year. We appreciated all of the suggestions provided by the owners for sights to see. Thanks to the bikes provided, we spent many hours on Sanibel's bike paths. We appreciated being able to lock up beach chairs to the beach access path fence and not have to carry them back and forth. The home is well equipped, both in the kitchen and on the bookshelves. We spent lots of time sitting on the screen porch looking over the Sanibel River and did see some alligators swim by. We did buy bike flashers for the bikes for the short time on Rabbit Road, which does not have a bike path. We found drivers to be courteous, giving way to the bikers and pedestrians. Thank you to the owners for making their home available to others so we can escape the winter of MI and enjoy Sanibel.

Such a fabulous place to stay we bought a house across the street!
We’ve been renters at Mango House for the past 5 winters and have loved every minute of our time here. It’s spacious, comfortable, modern and stylish and the open plan main room and lanai have beautiful water and sunset views. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need, from bikes and beach gear, to a library and huge puzzle collection, to a kitchen that has it all. Added to that, Mango is in a great position, right in the middle of the island. That means it’s really peaceful and surrounded by wildlife; we’ve seen eagles, ospreys, woodpeckers, ibis and all kinds of heron from the yard. But you’re only a short bike ride or walk to the famous refuge at Ding Darling, or to the fabulous uncrowded shelling beach at the bottom of the road, or to Doc Fords (a really great restaurant). And it’s only a couple of minutes drive “downtown” to the shops and restaurants along Periwinkle, or the kayak rentals at Tarpon Bay, or a bit further to the boat trips running from Captiva. When you're not busy relaxing, there is just so much to do here.
Sanibel is, pretty much, a perfect place and this has been the perfect Sanibel rental for us. We’ve now lived in the house for 10 months over the past 5 years - we felt completely at home the moment we first arrived and we still really love living here. Thank you Jay and Laura for being fantastic owners and making us feel so welcome, we’re going to miss the place a lot. But we’re not going far, and now we’re your neighbors!

Best place ever!
Mango house is tucked away down a quiet lane. It is the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy a magical island time! We all enjoyed taking out the fun beach cruiser bikes and riding them to the. Each or to the grocery store or just all around the island. There are wonderful bike paths all over the island.
The house is beautiful! It is clean and comfortably furnished. The owners have thought about everything we might want while we are there. We have a wonderful experience with the owners! They went out of their way to think of ways to make our trip better. We loved our beach access and we Re looking forward to returning again and again!

A perfect vacation once again!
Jay and Laura,
Thank you once again for allowing us to share your Mango House. It's been a great month for us to get away from the 'polar vortex' and we've enjoyed almost perfect weather. Thanks for always being available via phone or internet when we have questions. Your attention to detail is outstanding and we certainly appreciate it. We look forward to getting back to 'our' winter getaway next March.

Nice House and Great vacation spot !
My wife and I stay in this house for the month of February. Great weather and great shelling on the beach.
Riding a bike on Rabbit rd is very dangerous at times and you really need to be careful.
The worst part was dealing with the owners since they were not very honest with us. We still had a great time!

Great Place to Stay!
Our family loved this house. It was clean, nicely decorated, and very accomodating for our family of 6. The beds were comfortable (even the sofa bed!), kitchen was fabulous, and the screened in porch delightful. The ammenities were great too...bikes, toys for the kids, games, etc. Owners were easy to work with, and honestly, it was a FABULOUS place for our family!

Marvelous Mango House
What a wonderful "home away from home"! Mango House had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable: well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, bikes, beach toys, and a wonderful lanai to sit on and watch the neighborhood wildlife. The house was a short bike ride to the beach and to a wonderful restaurant, Doc Fords. The owners were extremely helpful, and provided us with tons of suggestions of things to do, restaurants to try, and stores to shop at. We jokingly said many times during our stay, "Did Jay recommend that?" because the few times we veered off of his list, we regretted it! We ate fresh mango and coconut from trees in the yard, enjoyed shelling (and tossing back all the live critters we found in the tidal pools), had a friendly bird identifying competition, and were thrilled at the schools of rays, the sweet manatees, and especially the once in a lifetime opportunity to watch a momma loggerhead, head in to shore to lay her eggs! Definitely a vacation to remember! Thanks Jay and Laura!!!

Love, Love, Love Mango House
We spent the month of April 2013 at Mango House. We were comfortable and happy every day. We loved the lanai and bird watching. We loved riding the bikes everywhere. We loved taste testing oysters at restaurants all over Sanibel and Captiva Island. There is so much to see and do that you should come down and try it all for yourself. Thanks to Jay for sharing his wonderful home and making our stay a pleasant one.

What a great place to stay... we have been to Sanibel many times and this location is perfect. A short bike ride from the beach with great access, a place to lock up the chairs for your trip, and a wonderful beach away from it all! Mango House is beautifully decorated, everything you need in the kitchen, and a great view from the screened-in porch. Jay and Laura are great people to deal with and have everything you need for a wonderful Sanibel vacation.... Melanie

Mango House was a delightful place to stay. The beach was secluded and wonderful for shelling and viewing wildlife. We enjoyed watching dolphins playing in the waves. The house was fully equiped with beach gear as well as in-house entertainment. There was an extensive collection of books, games, and movies. The kitchen had everything you could need. The beds were comfortable and the whole place was very clean. We enjoyed watching birds from the screened porch. I would definitely rent this one again.

Mango House in Sanibel, F...
Mango House in Sanibel, Florida was a perfect warm weather retreat for my companion and myself. The house itself is bright, open, and cheery. It is tastefully furnished, with comfortable beds and seating areas. Whether you cook in, or heat up takeout, the kitchen has everything you might need. My next visit I will know not to bring any reading materials as there are several large bookcases filled with an assortment of books, for at least a month of reading. There are movies and games galore, I have never stayed in a beach house that was so completely furnished that you only need bring your swimsuit and camera. Relaxing on the lanai and watching the herons, egrets, and other birds fly across the lake was one of my favorite activities. Of course the beach, which never had more than 2 other people in sight at any time, was another favorite place. A short bike ride away, it was beautiful from early morning to the daily sunset watching hour. Since the island is so flat, bike riding is very easy, even for a novice. The house is equipped with bicycles, beach chairs, and other paraphernalia, and you can carry a lot of shells back in your bike basket!

We had an outstanding vacation in December at the "Mango House". Looking out at the freshwater lake, we were totally relaxed and surrounded by a natural wild life preserve. The owners were very friendly and had everything we needed.. even binoculars to watch the native birds from our lanai. Furnished with everything new...IKEA Danish modern in tropical colors, complete kitchen, new bikes, a large, private backyard, very close to one of the world's best beaches, spectacular sunsets from the large lanai and the beach, grandchildren loved every minute! Shelling was the best. Close to everything..no need to leave the island. Will be back.
