About this house rental
Aloha and welcome to Hale Kai Ewa,
Input your month's desire (summer, winter, spring or fall--any month will do) and let's tailor an agreement to suit you and your budget. Rental prices will be adjusted based on number of people and services provided. We only take 12 contracts per year. The months starting July 2025 are open for your vacation plans.
Once you've gotten your month secured, check Google Flights. It's a handy tool for searching for airline flights, checking prices, and tracking airfare changes when alerts are set up. Google Flights is an easy-to-use tool for travelers, whether you’re a first-time user or an experienced Hawaii aficionado. Use it to get the best price before purchasing or checking after you buy should the airline drop prices and you wish to cancel and rebook. Let us know if you need also suggestions for a rental car.
Once, that's set up, you're ready to have breakfast with the sand crabs or enjoy outdoor dining in the shade of the lanai. Are you ready to find your month in the sun?
Our rate is for double occupancy. Tax is an additional 17.96%. Hale Kai Ewa can accommodate up to six people--2 couples in queen beds with 2 children in twin beds. Please inquire about early-late check in-out and additional people.
Ewa Beach is a great place to launch your tour of the island. We suggest you take a quarter of the island every few days because you'll want to take more time to explore some places or make reservations to return.
In business since 1998, we are the most reviewed beach house in our town. Ewa Beach doesn't get high ratings for night life, but we have a number of new restaurants from fine dining, ethnic, to slow casual with entertainment.
If you're working remotely or just relaxing and love the ocean and a leisurely pace, Hale Kai Ewa welcomes you with an open floor plan that looks out to the Pacific Ocean. You can enjoy the view of Diamond Head, amazing sunsets, hobie cats bobbing on the ocean, surfers, and relax to the rhythm of the waves.
The trade winds help to keep the house cool, but for extra comfort, the bedrooms have split AC. The bonus room does not have AC.
The roof of the lanai shades the length of the house for enjoyable outdoor dining. If you must work, you can have your zoom meeting with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The adjacent patio within a retaining wall is open to the full sun for your morning coffee and barbequing with sauces or grilling for crispy, charred, caramelized goodness and those picture-perfect grill marks.
The lawn is our green spot that leads to the Pacific Ocean. It's a great spot to read, sunbathe, or have a cool thirst quencher while taking in the salt air. The naupaka hedge is a soothing green wall.
The kitchen is equipped with microwave, Breville toaster oven, Corelle dishware, glassware, cookware, coffee pot, blender, and other small appliances.
The bedrooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. Enough said!
Need help? I'm nearby--just down the driveway. Hope to see you soon.
Mahalo,

Note: Smoking is not permitted on the property and the State does not allow smoking on the beach. More than 2 million cigarette buts can be found on our coastal shores on one day of cleanup. Food wrappers and containers are often ingested by aquatic animals and birds to die of starvation. We need to step up and help our environment to be able to continue to be the paradise everyone enjoys.
Thank you for your understanding and your effort to help Mother Nature.

The house is right on the ocean, just a few minutes walk from a very nice pond that we can swim. We can feel the ocean wind by just opening the windows. Ewa Beach is quite rocky, so we couldn’t swim much on the very windy days when the waves are very strong, but during the nice days it is nice to swim at the nearby pond. Karen and Gary were very nice to my family. They gave us a tour of the surrounding area and leis when we left. They took care of the problems we had with the house right away, and are genuine caring hosts. I would love to stay with them again.

The holiday home is, as described, right by the sea. The facilities also matched the description. We felt at home from the start. The owners, Karen and Gary, welcomed us very warmly. You could turn to them with any questions. We left with a lot of sadness.

I can’t even express how wonderful this experience has been. The property is perfect and the hosts have been so kind and welcoming. Karen and Gary have gone above and beyond when it comes to making us feel at home here and I don’t have sufficient words to thank them for everything. The tiny details and thoughtfulness that they have put into the property have added another layer of enjoyment for our family. The kids have had an absolute blast playing on the beach and using the guides to look for local fauna. We definitely plan to come back and spend more time here. This location helped to make some of the most important memories of our lives and we will be forever grateful for that opportunity.

Karen and Gary were super friendly and hospitable. The home was clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay but the most amazing feature was the views, smells, and sounds of the ocean right in the back of the house. It was beautiful and more

As a first trip to Hawaii with my sister and cousin, we were looking for a cozy place next to the ocean, in a quiet area away from all the tourists. Karen and Gary were very accommodating on our arrival time- we had a 2 hour frustrating experience at the car rental- but the moment we saw our home for the next week, we knew we had chosen the perfect place to stay, all of our previous frustration was forgotten. Seeing the ocean within steps of the home, the large lanai, and the living area with plenty of windows bringing in the breeze and the sound of the waves was breathtaking. We spent mornings and evenings sitting by the ocean watching the sunrise and sunset, the surfers, the view of Honolulu, and the ships coming and going. We especially enjoyed watching the hen and her little chicks nestling in the backyard. We all slept wonderfully, the beds were comfortable, the showers had great water pressure, plenty of bath linens and beach towels, a nicely laid out and equipped kitchen and plenty of space for 3 people. Karen had kindly supplied us with a bag of Kona coffee and came to check on us after a couple of days to see if we needed anything. We absolutely loved our stay and wished we could have extended for a much longer time. Karen and Gary are lovely hosts.

Hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Property was just feet from the ocean. Comfy beds with three bedrooms. Internet TV with a dvd and loads of disc’s available. Well stocked kitchen.

Wonderful
Everyone enjoyed the stay. It was great to be on the water, see sunrises AND sunsets, not have to eat every meal out, get inside advice about thinks to do and local places to try, etc. I thought I would work more, but I didn’t do any work while my guests were there. Only downside was the driving, but it was a fair trade off with the water, sunrises and sunsets.

Our month on Ewa Beach
Hosts Karen and Gary went above and beyond to sure we had everything we needed to make our month-long stay first rate. The house was spotless and fully stocked with any cleaning products we might have needed. Both sunrise and sunset views were spectacular from our beachfront. We fell asleep each night with the ocean waves. We will dearly miss that! As others have said, the kitchen has been remodeled in sparkling white and so have the bathrooms. We very much enjoyed Karen and Gary's hospitality and their wonderful beach house.

perfect place to stay
This is the cutest beach house! As a family of 5 adults we had all the space we needed and loved everything about this property. Karen is a gracious host. The location of this house is perfect. Pictures on this listing don’t show the upgrades we enjoyed - all new flooring, kitchen & bathrooms. AC in the bedrooms, large covered patio & fully stocked with everything you could need. The beach is soft sand & the views of Waikiki & Diamond Head are lovely, especially at night. Awesome sunsets too! We will not hesitate to stay here again!

Amazing family vacation
We just got home and miss this place already! It was a perfect little beach bungalow for our family's long vacation. We traveled with our 11 month old triplets and the space was great for us! Beautifully renovated white kitchen with everything you need to cook a few basic meals. Gorgeous, clean, newly renovated bathrooms with shower/tub combos perfect for bathing sandy babies. The bedrooms are smaller but we had plenty of space for our bed and three pack n plays and our friends had no issues with the guest bedroom. We used the bonus room to store luggage, diapers, etc and never felt cramped! The home is beautifully decorated with Hawaiian style furniture and gorgeous textiles/linens. Tons of towels for bathing and the beach. There is AC in the bedrooms which is nice when it gets hot in the middle of the day. We also had fans for the living areas but it definitely gets hot in July/august. The location can't be beat! right on the water! Gorgeous views and the water is super clear. It can get pretty rough but there is a little swimming hole a few houses down. The house is in a mature neighborhood away from downtown Honolulu/Waikiki. But we have been to hawaii many times and wanted something quieter. It was easy to drive anywhere we wanted to go! Karen was a fantastic host! We truly felt at home the entire time we were there. Great communication. Responded quickly to questions or concerns and even remembered our girls' birthday and brought us a delicious haupia and chocolate pie to celebrate!!! Would definitely recommend and can't wait to go back!

Amazing, relaxing, comfortable, and that View!
We were so happy with everything! It was nice to be away from the hussle and bussle of the city to the nice and quiet of the house. The house was comfy and had everything needed. And that view! Wow! So much more beautiful in person or from the kitchen table eating breakfast! Karen was an amazing host in communicating and showing us the house. It was so nice to have the convenience of the house right on the beach and water. We highly recommend this house and will stay here again!

Great family holiday!
Karen’s home worked fantastic for our family! Clean and super comfortable, stocked with all the amenities we needed (and more)! But best of all, just a great location with a big yard backing onto the ocean!
Nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and Waikiki! Karen was great to deal with, and a great host!

Great view and a fun beach
Karen’s beach house was a great spot for my group of 6 (2 were my younger kids). The swimming spot was perfect for us and we really enjoyed such a large view. Everything we needed was there and the house wasn’t too far from everything we wanted to do. Sometimes we could hear everything from the neighbors. But for the price this was a good house for us. We even saw a couple of sea turtles on the shore!

Comfort on the Beach!
Wonderful house decorated Hawaiian style. The place was comfy with all the amenities needed for our family of six. Easy to get to with lots to do within short drives. I would recommend this place highly for families. Level entry and beach right in front of the house. Thanks Karen for your hospitality! Mahalo! The MacLean’s, Edmonton Jan 25 to 31, 2020

Excellent Place to Stay on Oahu!
Karen was so easy to work with and so accommodating to our needs! Even tho the owners are right next door, we hardly ever saw them, but if we needed something or had questions, they were right there to help!
The home was perfect for our needs! We had five adults and one toddler, and the home was the perfect size, we never felt like we were on top of each other, and the two full size bathrooms were wonderful to have! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals and there was enough seating around the table for five, but we ate outside on the patio table a lot. The living area is great with two couches, two large chairs, an ottoman and tables, plus a tv with the most dvd's available I've ever seen! The washer and dryer were awesome to have available!
Let's talk about the view! Amazing! The front door is actually where the kitchen/dining room is and the windows are where the living area is, so you are looking out at the ocean from the main part of the house! There is plenty of privacy, although the houses are very close together and you can sometimes hear the neighbors talking if they are outside. No big deal to us tho!
The beach is amazing and the snorkeling is good, it was hard to swim out past some of the reef with the waves, but some of us eventually made it out there. The coral is beautiful! It was greener and brighter than Hanama Bay, but not as many fish to see. There is also a nice sandy swimming hole just a few houses down.
I thought the location of this home was perfect! It's in a quiet neighborhood where everyone is friendly. We were able to drive almost anywhere on the island in less than an hour (except once when we hit heavy traffic and construction). That being said, avoid rush hour traffic at all cost! Some of our family got caught in rush hour traffic and it will take a lot longer to get to your destination! At first you think you are far away from everything, but if you don't mind driving a bit (I love the scenery), then the location is great. This home is in a quiet residential area, so if you want the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, this is not the place for you. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and grocery stores in the area. Walmart is 7 miles away (take your own carry out bags). There are quite a few local eateries if you are looking for good Hawaiian food.
Karen was an excellent host and we LOVED our stay at her home! I would recommend this beach rental to everyone!

We came as a family to see our son who is stationed in Hawaii. The house worked out perfectly. Plenty of room for all, beautiful sunrise and sunsets. Neighbors were great and owner was Very accommodating and understanding. Would differently recommend to others.

Lovely holiday
We had a lovely time in the sweet cottage on the beach. We used the sand chairs and beach towels provided by our host and hostess. Our morning coffee sunrise and evening sunsets were stunning!

Practically Perfect
The only reason we aren’t giving this property a perfect score is because there wasn’t A/C (I somehow missed that on the listing). While it was clearly evident the owner was extremely thoughtful and provided MANY fans, a bed jet, etc., it just wasn’t enough to cut the heat and humidity of the summer and left us with restless sleep. Having said that, we truly loved this location and would definitely visit again in the cooler months, but would unfortunately choose another location in the summer....but that’s ONLY because of the A/C. The property was clean, the kitchen was well supplied so I was able to cook full meals, and did I mention the beach?! It was absolutely stunning! There were also board games (which our kids loved) and many movies (although we literally turned on the TV once to see if it worked and that was it, lol). We truly enjoyed our stay...minus the A/C.

Quintessential Hawaiian Vacation
Karen’s home was just perfect, she was a lovely host along with her husband. What more could you want then waking up to the beach and ocean their backyard. Their home was well stocked with all the necessary items in the house and for the beach. The beds were all very comfortable. Her neighbors are really friendly and sweet. Our daughters loved walking about five houses down to Silvia’s Store the neighborhood market to buy ice cream and snacks. It was also convenient for us to get ice and alcohol. My husband appreciated living like a local during our stay without the chaos of a hotel, elevators, walking a long way caring all the beach items, crowds and noise of Honolulu. We actually just bought groceries and enjoyed making meals vs. going out and that normally doesn’t happen during a vacation but we just felt so at home. It was the perfect vacation for our family and we know we will make it back to Ewa Beach in the future.

Excellent Get Away
We left the big city behind for a real Hawaiian experience. Aside from the rooster crowing literally at the crack of dawn (which didn’t allow for sleeping in), the property was just what we needed to find ourselves lost in Aloha.

Home Away from Home at Home
If you grew up in Hawaii and had family who lived in Ewa Beach then staying at this home brings back happy memories of time spent with them.
We felt right at home and the house had everything we needed as Karen states online.
People who commented about dogs barking....the walls are made of mason blocks so we really couldn't hear much of anything during our one week stay.
We stayed in July 2019 (one of the hottest month in Hawaii) but the house wasn't as hot as I thought it would be and Karen has lots of fans in the house to cool things if need be.
The neighbors were very nice and kept to themselves most of the time (local style, no bother).
The view of stars at night from Karen's yard are AMAZING and sunsets are EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL.
May lessen our chances of Karen's beautiful home being available when we want to return again BUT it would be remiss of us to not express what a wonderful stay we had.
Mahalo Karen....Malama Pono, A Hui Hou<3

Great EWA beach vacation
We absolutely loved Karen and Gary’s house in paradise. The views are to die for. Waking up every morning to the best views and sounds of the waves. Karen was there to answer any questions and the neighbors were wonderful to talk to. The house has everything you would need and has a shed with all the beach toys. We cooked dinner every night and ate outside with breeze and beautiful views. We would definitely stay again and not deal with all the crowds in Honolulu and Waikiki. If you want real Hawaii this is the place for you.

Only stayed one night
I guess I didn’t do enough research because while Karen and the booking/check in process was great, the house and surroundings were not what we expected. All night dogs were barking. No privacy from neighbors, they could see in to rooms and you couldn’t shut the windows because there is no AC. We also have a baby (11 months) and it was not great for her....90° in her room during naps, etc. We had booked an entire week but left after just one night because of these reasons.

Right on the beach
Karen was great to deal with, very friendly and helpful. On the beach location is great, enjoyed just sitting out and soaking in the view. House has everything you need, lots of towels and all the beach equipment you could ask for. Decor is nice, in good shape. All in all, worked out great for our group of five. Highly recommend.

Extremely accommodating hostess. This beach house was perfect for our family
Enjoyed out stay ; walking , swimming and kayaking from the house’s beach access . The garden and patio provided a wonderful dinning space to share barbecues with family members. The house was adequate size with a well equipped kitchen and good size bedrooms. Also it was clean and well maintained.
Will definitely rent again.

Will never do Hotels for vacation ever again . . . spectacular week on the island
Exactly what we thought and hoped it would be. Cute little 'cottage' right the beach. Home was super comfortable. Open, screened windows with ceiling fans keeps the home cool and breezy. It's got everything you need in the kitchen, small toy shed with chairs / umbrella for the beach, it's just wonderful. We loved how this was in a regular residential area (away from the tourist crush of Waikiki). Every time we went out on the beach, we were essentially the only people we could see in either direction . . . good luck finding that on Oahu. The beach is wonderful, the ocean beneath the water is full of coral but just 30 or 40 yards or so down the beach there's this great big hole in the coral that is like a natural swimming pool. Was perfect for our 9 yr old daughter to safely swim and play. We snorkeled for hours in this little natural swimming pool with all sorts of great little fish. Great golf courses near by, super easy access to groceries and local restaurants. You can of course hop over to Waikiki area and all that but we were happy to stay local most of the time. Spent the day up in Laie at the Polynesian Cultural Center and it was spectacular.
Karen is an absolutely wonderful host. Made sure we had everything we needed. We hope to make this an annual Spring Break trip. Thank you so much for making your home available and taking care of us so well.

Lovely beach and oceanfront location
The beach is wonderful and never busy. A swimming hole is available nearby. We were able to see seals on the beach twice during our stay. Sunsets are beautiful. Lovely night views of Honolulu. Located centrally for our touring around Oahu. Couldn’t ask for a better equipped property, inside and out. Karen and her family were very kind and welcoming and helped us whenever we asked for anything. We would definitely stay here again. Perfect for visiting with family and friends.

Our family of 5 just returned home after spending 7 nights in Karen's lovely cottage. It is an older home, in an older neighborhood. With a stunning view right from the back lawn. The home is very private with a fully stocked kitchen, plenty of towels, fans, games, and books. A whole shed full of beach tools! There is even a shower bench and grab bar in master bathroom for elderly/disabled. We fully enjoyed watching the sunrise near Honolulu then the sunset to the west. Mahalo Karen!

Words cant say enough for how wonderful our vacation was here. The house was clean and with every amenity that you could imagine. My grandfather kept repeating over and over how much he enjoyed the house instead of a stuffy hotel that pushes their overpriced food and gift stores at you. It was everything I dreamed of. I bought water shoes for my family and there was even those at the property as well. We left ours there as well so hopefully others can use them. Karen and her husband were so nice and helpful, but you have all the privacy in the world! We are looking at already planning our next trip in 2 years. We can't wait to see you again Karen!!

To celebrate my fathers 90th Birthday and Thanksgiving we stayed at friendly, low key beach house in Ewa Beach. With views of Diamond Head / Waikiki to the east and Barbers Point to the west this house had all spectacular sunrise and sunset views from the back yard. The beach is directly behind the house with sandy access to the coral bottomed ocean. The home had just about everything we needed to prepare our meals since at the house. Access to shopping was only a few minutes drive away including a Costco, Foodland Supermarket, Safeway as well as the Commisaries on Hickman, Schofield Barracks, Barbers Point .... We have family and friends here so luvkiy dining out became just about unnecessary. The property has a full kitchen complete with a 4 burner electric cooktop, electric oven, microwave, large toaster oven , rice cooker, stand mixer and even a Vitamix Blender! Full fridge freezer and ample storage easily handled all the supplies we needed for an 8 day stay. The central location ensured we were no more than 30-45 drive to just about anywhere on the island. If you want a relaxing environment where the beaches aren’t all packed to gills with people or there isn’t an ABC Store in site this place is for you. After spending an afternoon, evening in Waikiki you’ll appreciate the laid back atmosphere of this property. The backyard has trees and bushes to provide ample privacy on both the left and right side of the yard. There is also both a gas and charcoal BBQ grills, nothing like a BBQ at the beach that just happens to be your backyard!!. Karen the owner is as friendly as could be as well as very respectfully professional about her property. No detail went unatteded, she even ensured there was ice in the freezer!! Plenty towels for bathing as well as beach towels were readily available. She also had a storage shed full of beach activity items, body boards, surfboards, masks, snorkels, fins and importantly reef shoes (make sure you bring your own though, that coral underwater bottom can tear your feet, ankles and legs up if you’re unprepared, The rooms were comfortable with both ceiling fans and room fans the breezes cooled the rooms off nicely! Could not ask for better spot for a family centered relaxation destination. Recharge your bodies batteries here, you will not regret the choice. Thank you for everything Karen, it was a wonderful, memorable stay!!

We are a family of 5 and I took our kids for the first time to Hawaii and they had a blast. The place is great and Karen is took care of us perfectly. The house is a great location out of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. I highly recommend renting a car and tour the entire island. It is located about 30 mins to an hour of most everything. The only reason I didn't give 5 Stars is because there was no AC. Not that you need it normally, but we just so happen to go when it was extremely hot so it would have been nice in our case. Other than that, the place was great for a family our size. Overall a great place to stay.
