Our family had a wonderful vacation at this cottage on Cedar Island. The location is great! Dealing with the property manager Jamie was friendly and easy. All questions were answered promptly. Overall a fantastic time was had by all. Thank you so much Jamie!

First of all, the owner was gracious with me forgetting to put in the amount of people we had coming, which I appreciated.
The location was nice. There is a very nice public beach a couple blocks down the road. The neighborhood wasn't high class, but didn't seem bad either.
We had several complaints though unfortunately. We had ten people booked for two nights and there weren't even enough washcloths for the first night. Also, there was dog hair everywhere. We were in the area for a wedding and had to go buy a lint roller because of all the hair. Also, the one bedroom needed more blackout shades because the neighbor's TV flashed a lot of light in late at night.
Overall, an ok experience but a bit of touch-up would make it better.

Jamie was super friendly. Some points of the listing needed updating. The canoe and paddle boat were not available, there was no fireplace. Everything else was great! Lots of things to do nearby, the beach was walking distance, getting into town was easy.

Stay somewhere else
I booked this property December 15/21 through to January 1/21. We left after the first night. Because of mold/bad air quality, by morning, my brother in law was experiencing a severe headache and my sister was coughing. There was mold on the ceilings and water damage in one bedroom along with a sign that said 1 bedroom was prone to flooding and asked you not to use it "unless necessary".. I contacted the owner the first night and stated the issues and have messaged her since but have yet to receive ANY refund from her other than an offer for 7 of the 17 days if I said she wasn't liable for anything. In addition to the unhealthy air, the shower and sink didn't drain properly, the lighting didn't work in the main bathroom and the only source of heat, a gas fireplace, wasn't vented outside. The electrical plugs in the kitchen came up flush with the counter top and weren't GFIs. This property is literally and figuratively a headache.

Weekend getaway
We booked this cottage last minute and it was perfect for our weekend away with family. The cottage was decent clean. It has 4 beds (8 places) to sleep in 3 bedrooms. Kitchen is small, but complete, with almost new stove + oven, works great.
I was happy that I took my own water cooker as theirs was not clean. Beds were good. Toilet paper, towels, linen all on hand We made great memories together and had a nice stay

Wonderfully Relaxing

We loved everything about our stay. We used the onsite fishing pole, canoe and firepit. The BBQ was the perfect size for our 13 pound Thanksgiving Day Turkey to slow cook in. The oven inside was amazing. The living room was a great place open area to watch movies and play games as a family when it rained. The beds were comfy and there was a nice yard with a fence for our dogs. The kitchen had everything but a mixer which the friendly neighbor let us borrow. The WiFi connection was great. They had laundry soap, dish soap...tp..pt.. plenty of towels, everything you would need. We used the AC for one day when we were cooking constantly and it worked great.
The best part though was the back patio and deck area. It was so peaceful to be so close to the backchannel and the bird watching was incredible. I loved the cover patio because when it rained lightly we could still sit outside, drink wine/coffee and fish! Every morning and night we were out there taking in the quiet fresh air and watching fish jump out of the water.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Great Location, but not great for hot summer days
The good:
- fully stocked kitchen (including paper towels, saran wrap and foil)
- linens provided
- ample space for large families
- close to the beach
- comfortable beds
- friendly neighbors
- bathrooms stocked with hand soap, body wash and towels
Not so Good:
- the house is not air-conditioned. There are portable units in the dining room, entrance and the master room but they are loud.
- master bedroom felt damp with the a/c on at night
- there are 2 ceiling fans in the living room, but one looks like it's about to fall off
- portable fans are provided for the 2 bedrooms, but they're just blowing hot air around the room.
- there's a sign requesting that you take your shoes off when you enter, but the floor was dirty so we kept ours on
- spray yourself with big repellant before stepping out of the car cause the bugs are ready to bite!
- cooking pans need to be replaced and the oven wasn't working for us

We had a fantastic week!
This property worked perfectly for our family! We thoroughly enjoyed fishing off the dock in our own backyard every morning and my Grandchildren learned how to waterski at the nearby beach! Great memories were made!

Covered patio unusable causing mould smell in master bedroom
The cottage was very well equipped however it was not as clean as it should have been...and the amount of spiderwebs inside was a little creepy. The spiderwebs and dead bugs all over the windows and outside should have been hosed down before we arrived. Dissapointing water problem on the covered patio which looked like a green swamp and caused the master bedroom to smell mouldy, due to the water just inside the door of the bedroom. This was an issue for us as I have allergies. Once I emptied and cleaned the fridge, got rid of most of the cobwebs and cleaned the garbage can etc and my husband repaired the paddle boat and had to clean the barbeque (because the drip tray had not been cleaned in a long time). I removed evidence of previous guests but was expecting that the guidelines during this pandemic with regard to cleanliness would have been adhered to.

Nice area - cottage could use updating
This cottage was an excellent size for myself, 3 girlfriends and our 4 daughters. At first, we were disappointed that we were unable to sit on the covered patio at the back due to some slime and water coming up and over the barrier wall. Obviously, we understand that this was beyond the owner's control, but the pictures looked so nice online! I did find a shovel on the property and proceeded to scrape away much of the slime once the water retreated into the canal. There were many large cobwebs in corners of the high ceilings of the cottage and it was a bit musty at first. There had been a family there for a few days before us.
I feel that if this cottage had a really good top to bottom cleaning (including cupboards, etc.which had a lot of opened food items such as flour), I would have given it an excellent rating. The patio area at the side of the cottage had used roof shingles to sit upon...not sure why there were no patio stones used?! Jamie and her husband are the caretakers who look after the property for the owners and live down the street. She was very helpful and available when needed (toilet paper supply). Terry, the owner, replied to most of my emails promptly. Due to this area only being in stage 2 of COVID-19 recovery, he eased our fears of coming from an area in Stage 3. We didn't venture out too much except for walks and a quick trip to Colasanti's & Cindy's.
Overall, we had a great time and may come back next year. We made the best of what was available. I do hope more deep cleaning will take place in future!

Amazing stay! The house was perfect, and so cozy! Loved catching and releasing tons of catfish in the channel while having a nice fire! The covered patio area is awesome! Parking our boat right at the house! Amazing home layout for our family :) so close to everything. We will be returning to this property whenever we are in this area!

Great vacation cottage on the water
Terry is a wonderful host. Made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. From listings for attractions in the area, to the cottage which had everything for young children and adults to enjoy.

Excellent vacation in a great location
We had a very comfortable stay at the property. The rooms were clean and done up well. The linen and cutlery were fresh and in sufficient numbers. The Property is well located and has a fantastic ambiance. Thanks to Lily and Terry for making our stay comfortable . Will definitely visit again

High water
It had what we wanted - access to the canal from the back deck; close to fishing charters at the Marina. Unfortunately the water was so high, it was hazardous even thinking of walking on the deck. The back bedroom was more frequently moderately flooded than not. That was liveable (for two people) except it limited better air flow through the house as the hallway door had to be kept closed so the cats wouldn't go fishing. Again liveable but the air conditioner in that room simply helped that room - not the rest of the house. Without the high water situation, the cottage lived up to it's billing: basic cottage with three bedrooms, large living room, bath kitchen and dining room. Ceiling or floor fans; portable air conditioners. Internet availability.

Family vacation
Cedar island property was fantastic, great location, very clean and nicely furnished all the amenities of home. Terry and Lilly were gracious host offering help with anything that was required. We had a few minor setbacks but nothing that Terry didn’t rectify immediately. All and all five stars to the hosts and property. Would do next year.

Cottage for kids and pets
We were very pleased with the cottage. It was a relaxing and my family had a great time. The fishing poles , canoe and paddle boat were big hits. The cottage had everything we needed. The water level was higher than first expected but once we got used to it we still had fun.

Great location, amenities lacking
We didn't really have the most comfortable stay and we were quite tolerant of the situation, by trying to make the best out of it. The area was very beautiful and we had fun at the lake, despite having an uncomfortable stay at the cottage. The day we had got in, it had rained in the morning and early afternoon, and the canal outback was flooded, with water and duckweed all over the deck, and onto the grassy area. When we got in, we discovered that AC was portable units not central in the home, so we cranked them up, along with the the dehumidifier that was left one to deal with the dampness in the house, and within the first hour of being there the fuse for the kitchen and fridge blew. Terry was helpful in troubleshooting when we called. This happened 2 or three more times on the first night. We tried making dinner that night, and the oven gave us some problems, working for a bit and then turning off, the BBQ ignitor wasn't working and we had to use matches, it was also extremely dirty and we had to line it with tin foil. For the three days we were there we basically couldn't make use of the dock because it was literally flooded the entire time. The bikes had deflated wheels and there was no pump, and one of them didn't have a pin cover, when we did manage to find a bike pump from a neighbour. The cleanliness of the places was quite poor as well, but we were prepared for some cottage living and brought some cleaning supplies with us, we re-washed the majority of the towels, because they were dirty and moldy smelling, there were cobwebs everywhere, but what really ruined it was ants and insects getting into our food! The straw that broke the camels back was flooding on the final night, the water had risen so high that it got into the back bedroom from the back door, there was a suit case on the ground that needed to be completely re-washed with everything in it, the water was also getting in through the back near the head board of the beds, and it wasn't safe to sleep in the room, we all ended up cramming in the other two rooms and the couch, and hopeful it would stop rising. When I messaged Terry to considered refunding us for the one night, my request was ignored. Overall we weren't able to make use of the majority of the amenities, and our stay was uncomfortable with the cleanliness issues and the flooding.

Nice layout, but dirty, cluttered and mouldy
The cottage had an open concept layout, which looked nice after we cleaned the counters, the floors, and tucked their clutter out of the way.
One of the bedrooms flooded the second night we were there. The next morning we learned from neighbours that it had happened several times prior. We also learned through the previous-days-newspaper, that Environment Canada was warning of flooding at that time.
The property owner did not warn us that a flood was possible or likely, nor did he caution us against putting our suitcases in the lower bedroom. He scolded us when we phoned him in the night to tell him that his property was flooding. When he arrived, late the next morning, he showed us no concern, no consideration. He was on his cell phone while looking at repairs, while we packed our wet medication, ruined blood pressure cuff, sodden suitcases.

Excellent!!
Nice place to stay..very relaxing!!
Watching the fish jump and the ducks herons and birds right from your patio is amazing!
My only suggestion is a new teakettle and a safety rail across the dock.

Cottage had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Really nice beach and lovely views off the back deck. Terry was a attentive host. No fish flies. Cottage was as advertised.

Better than expected!
This was our first time booking with VRBO and we chose one of the properties that seemed closer to a beach. The outside of this cottage is deceiving because it looks small but it's actually so spacious inside! All the renovations were great, and we were provided with things like firewood, a canoe, and there was a cute little barn bar right next to the home! On top of the great place, Terry was friendly and was extremely helpful. He made sure we were comfortable and gave us recommendations throughout our stay. Definitely somewhere we'd want to stay at again!
