About this bed and breakfast
The Hay Loft sits in the middle of 43 beautiful acres, overlooking our working hay farm with stunning views of the Shenandoah Mountains. We are conveniently located a few minutes off of I-81 in Mt. Jackson, Virginia, near vineyards, antiquing, battlefields, golf resorts, ski resorts and caverns. A short 30 minute drive will take you hiking or driving in Shenandoah National Park.
Address: 949 Buck Hill Road, Mt Jackson, VA
The Hay Loft is a new, custom built Rustic/Luxe suite, spacious and open with all the amenities that you will need for a couple or solo vacation getaway. Custom made king bed and bathroom with tiled shower (no tub); linens and towels provided. You'll find a kitchenette with a single serve and 12-cup coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, ice maker, dishes and glasses. Enjoy cozying up on the couch in front of the gas fireplace to watch the flat screen TV with a DVD movie or play board games. Cook up a meal or BBQ on the outdoor gas grill, or lounge around the outdoor fire pit with plenty of logs to keep you warm.
Wake up to the beautiful sunrise over the mountains from you private balcony or bed as you sip your coffee. As the neighboring farms come alive, you can enjoy the sound of roosters crowing and cows calling to their calves. Take a walk or a bike ride along our dirt road and you may catch a glimpse of our hay farming; from cutting, raking or baling hay to unloading from the wagons into our barn. In the evening, relax on your balcony with a glass of wine and soak in the vistas of the sun setting over the barn and mountains.
THE HAY LOFT is Non-Smoking within the building, however moderate smoking is permitted outside; please do not dispose of cigarette butts on the landscape, forests or toilet.
- Wireless internet provided (limited, no streaming)
- no pets - Please note we have two outdoor farm dogs that are people and pet friendly, a Maremma livestock guard dog and a chocolate lab.
You can check yourself in anytime after 3pm with your own security code. Check out time at 11:00am.
We respect your desire for privacy. We are available next door in our home to answer any questions or help with any needs you may have. We are also always accessible by phone when we are not home.
We have a security camera facing the driveway and parking area and the bottom of the steps to the Hay Loft ONLY.
Country living: The Hay Loft sits on and next to 200 acres of hay and corn fields, and woods and trees. There are insects and animals in the country. You will occasionally see flies, lady bugs, stink bugs, mosquitoes, ants, etc outdoors, be mindful of open doors as some insects can get inside if doors and windows are left open by guests. We clean with bleach and sanitize thoroughly after each guest but you may on occasion see an insect inside (stink bugs usually) which is beyond our control. They are more prevalent in the spring (March and April). We provide a hand vac so you can suck it up in the vacuum for us to dispose the dead insect later. The home is spray foam insulated and an insect treatment sprayed around the exterior of the home on a monthly basis. When it warms up, the stink bugs and lady bugs occasionally tend to congregate on the warm door/windows. These are small nuisances to enjoy the beauty of the mountains and valley (we also get them in our own home). We cannot control nature and do not provide refunds for acts of nature beyond our control to include a few stink bugs that may get inside the home. We have windows that attract stinkbugs ladybugs, so if you have a ladybug or stinkbug phobia this probably isn’t the place for you. This is only problem normally in the Spring. We have a pest control service to handle the problem and they use people and pet safe products. However, we never completely win the battle with nature so there may be some around.

I can not say enough good things about “The Hay Loft”
Beautiful property! The views were incredible! Kim was super responsive and gave us many recommendations and suggestions of places to visit and eat. Unfortunately we were only there for one night, but will definitely be visiting again sometime in the near future. The dogs are the sweetest! The Loft was super clean, and cozy and offered every amenity you could need! What a charming place! We can’t wait to come back!

My wife and I stayed one night at the Hay Loft, for a short get away to celebrate our recent marriage. Kim responded instantly with recommendations and suggestions on places to visit within the area which surly further enhanced our stay. Upon arrival to their beautiful property, we were welcomed with open arms from Kim, Jerry and their two friendly pups Tedder & Grover! The Hay Loft provided a breathtaking view of the country side and front row seat of the sun rising over the mountains. The Loft was very clean, had amazing decor, comfortable bed, stocked with snacks and coffee. The hospitality from Kim & Jerry was simply unmatched, we can’t wait to return! Thank you again!!

It was a welcomed “get away”. I do wish the gas logs would have been functioning, but I do understand that things happen. I will recommend this location and VRBO to anyone! Beautiful setting, great bedding, greeting dogs, easy location to reach! I will return!

We were met at gate by huge friendly dog, Tedder, who led us the entire way to our cabin. The property was amazing and the suite was perfect. Just what we needed to getaway, relax and have morning coffee with Mountain View’s. The pictures don’t do it justice.
Will definitely look to come back.

The hay loft was absolutely perfect. It is decorated so well and includes everything you might need. We grilled out steaks one night and had bagels for breakfast. The location is stunning and the real bosses, the pups, were so sweet and friendly. We really felt at home. The checkin and out process was a breeze and we appreciated all the easy communication. Oh, the bed is so comfortable and the double comforters - perfect!!
Would totally reserve again.

My wife and I have had a crazy Summer, and this was exactly the place we needed to unwind for a bit and reconnect. The Hay Loft is clean, beautiful, and so, so comfortable. The views are outstanding and it is very easy to get to Shenandoah, wineries, and breweries and restaurants in the area. Listen to the advice of the host's! They know all the best spots and you won't be sorry you listened to them. We will for sure be back.

Gorgeous, well-kept room with lovely views. Lots of extra specials that made our stay much more memorable. Very comfortable king size bed and more than adequate kitchen space. Definitely coming back again in the fall to enjoy the firepit and local hiking trails. Thank you, Kim and Jerry.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here over the weekend to celebrate his birthday. Coming from Washington DC, the peace and quiet of The Hay Loft was incredible. The dogs greeted us the second we got out of the car and throughout our stay. The interior is lovely; cozy, clean and welcoming. Views of the mountains and the surrounding valley are gorgeous. Incredible amenities, our favorites being the deck which is great to enjoy the sunset and the stone tiled shower. Fair warning - vrbo has a different address listed (at no fault of the host!) and we got very lost lol! Definitely message the hosts to get the correct one before traveling. Would love love love to stay here again :)

We stayed two nights in the Hay Loft over the holiday weekend. Loved the quiet, peaceful and beautiful location. We were welcomed by Tedder and Grover and loved having a chance to meet them. The loft was perfect for us; the decor, the wine and snacks, the most comfy bed and the deck with a view! Kim’s communication throughout our stay was also very helpful. They are awesome and generous hosts! Thanks again! We look forward to returning!

We had a wonderful stay at The Hayloft! Bucolic setting. Immaculately clean. More than comfy bed. Decorated for a country setting with lots of appreciation for local and family history. Enjoyed a walk on graveled roads Saturday evening and Sunday morning. We were treated to a family of fox kits on our walk Sunday morning, peeking out and frolicking from their dens, in the early morning sunshine. Saturday was rainy on and off throughout the day, but cleared in the evening for relaxing around the fire pit. Grover and Tedder are fantastic farmdog ambassadors. The low clouds in the valley Sunday morning amid the rising sun were spectacular. Just wow.

We stayed overnight at the Hay Loft and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing scenery surrounding the charming guest house- it was breathtaking! The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. As we stepped into the home, we were so pleased with the attention to detail and the personal touches (special soaps, shampoos, cookies, muffins, assorted coffees and much more). The furniture pieces are one of a kind and we loved the way the home was decorated. The bed is wonderfully comfortable, the fireplace is beautiful, and the inside as well as the outside is all very neat, clean and well kept. The online pictures are great but seeing it in person is way better! We would definitely come back in a heartbeat!!! Thanks for a lovely and very, very peaceful stay!!
