About this house rental
Reminiscent of the elegance of a Hawaiian era gone by, this chic and comfortable duplex just had a complete transformation. The two plantation cottages have separate living areas and separate kitchens , each with 2 bedrooms & 1 bath, totaling 4 bedrooms ( 3 king beds, 1 queen) and 2 oversized bathrooms.
Cottage # 1 has a Tommy Bahama King bed in the master suite and a woven Malabar queen bed in the second bedroom along with a queen sleeper sofa in the living room.
Cottage # 2 has king beds in each bedroom along with an oversized completely remodeled bathroom with double lavs.
The two cottages do not share living spaces but there is a huge lanai that connects the cottages so guests can mingle, eat meals & enjoy time after the beach. The separate cottages allow guests to escape when they want quiet time & provide privacy for different families....the best of all worlds !
Located only 4 homes from the most beautiful beach in the world, it is a mere 1 minute walk. The lushly landscaped yard is a tropical paradise with expansive grass area surrounded by banana, papaya, & mango trees. The massive plumeria tree adjacent the huge lanai is the most tranquil setting to lounge.
Our home can easily accommodate 10 people and is beautifully furnished Hawaiian style. There are a total of 3 king beds, 1 queen and a queen sleeper sofa and futons for children as well as a pack n play for infants make this an ideal setting for extended families and large groups
The previous owners of the property called it the ' Beach Huts in the VRBO listing & we realized that this understated the home so we changed the description to the Plantation Cottages which is much more appropriate. All the previous reviews reference the Beach Huts so don't be confused, same property, different name.
We repaired & re-built the secluded swimming pool which was damaged in the last hurricane. This is the only property along the Poipu beach coast with a swimming pool. The previous owners could not afford to make the repairs & it took over a year to complete. The massive lava wall, lush landscaping , gated entry offer a one a kind experience.
We just completed re-building the studio pool house ( June 2018) directly adjacent the pool but separated by a 6' high lava wall. This studio is currently managed by a local friend as a separate vacation rental & listed as VRBO # 1382042. It is available as an extra accommodation for our property at an additional cost of approximately $300 /night plus taxes, fees & has a queen bed, kitchen, full bath & sleeper sofa to accommodate 4 people. Please contact Ej Olsson who manages the pool house & calendar @ [email protected] & tell him you are renting the Kuai cottages from me to get a better deal.
When we renovated the swimming pool we installed a solar powered energy saving circulating pump which functioned extreme well for 5 years. However the 70' towering monkey pod trees on the adjacent property created too much shade & the pump could not keep the pool clean. After receiving numerous complaints, we abandoned the solar system & installed a conventional electric circulating pump. It was installed in June 2023 & the pool now works perfectly and after a day at the beach it is welcome retreat, especially for children

The cottages had it all! Amazing location, everything you need to spend the day at the beach, or just lounge around at the house. Two families totaling 9 people, ages 13-57. The cottages were big enough for all of us. The kids spent lots of time enjoying the pool in the evenings. Did I mention the location? Within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Communication with Lance was easy, and a BIG shoutout to Dorthy! She responded promptly with any questions we had. Would definitely stay here again, and recommend to family and friends. If you’re thinking about it, just do it! You will love it as well.

We enjoyed our 9 days in Poipu. The home is 1 block from the beach, and we could walk everywhere.
Home had a pool which we enjoyed, but the various beach we could walk to made this very worthwhile.

We had a wonderful family experience at this location! They supply everything you need to enjoy your day on the beach, and the location of the property is perfect! Close enough to get what you need, yet tucked away on a quiet little street. There were 8 of us ranging in age from 5 to 84 and we all loved our stay! We hope to be able to enjoy this lovely property again in the future!

This was our first visit to Kauai to celebrate a milestone birthday. This property is in a wonderful location, walking to the beach was very quick. The property is gorgeous, beautiful trees and flowers, and the pool was terrific. The house is well appointed with just about everything you could want in the kitchen, lots of towels, beach chairs, and mats. Lots of restaurants within easy driving distance and location on the island is central for exploring other beaches and island treasures such as the Waimea Canyon and hiking trails. I would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time in Poipu! So close to the beaches! The house was comfortable and well equipped for days at the beach. Plenty of towels, beach chairs, beach toys, umbrellas. Also everything for the little ones, high chair, pack n play, strollers. The kitchens also had everything we needed to cook at home.
The yard was spacious and offered plenty exploration opportunities for kids, lizards, geckos, chickens!

Awesome option for body surfing and a baby friendly beach with playground, all within walking distance of this huge property. Our family loved having common space to hang out and enjoy meals in. Would love to come back year after year--thanks for having us!

This was definitely home away from home. You cannot beat the location. We did not want to leave. The house had everything you needed and was so comfortable and clean. We toured the entire island and all were in agreement that we could not have found a better location. The beaches were breathtaking. One evening we got to see 100 sea turtles. We have traveled around the world and this was the place that we said we have to return to. If you can rent this piece of paradise for your family you will absolutely not regret it. We will be back!

We had a pre-wedding get together at the property. There is plenty of beautiful outdoor space making it a very nice and relaxing event. The property is very nice, clean and a great location to the beach and getting to see the turtles was a huge plus. Thank you for letting us stay at your wonderful place.

The location was amazing. We were only a few houses from the beach and I walked every morning on a near by path watching the turtles and some dolphin sightings. My parents came with me and the setup of the home was perfect for that. I stayed on one side with my husband and kids and my parents stayed on the other side. It allowed time for us all to get a break and have some quiet time away from everyone. The house had all the essentials including snorkel and beach equipment. We thought we’d use the pool more, but we didn’t because the kids loved the ocean. The pool was clean and really nice though. If we needed anything we got a response quickly. We look forward to coming back again and really built some great memories. I’d highly recommend the home and location.

We had a great time staying in the cottages. The beach was just a short walk and the family enjoyed ending each day with a walk down to see the turtles. Having the semi-private pool for the kids when they were not feeling up to a crowded beach was a life saver too. The place is well-stocked for a family and we had a blast.

It was perfect! Great location! Walking distance to beach, restaurant, shopping and it had everything we needed! Snorkles, beach chairs, towels & umbrella for beach etc! The Poipu -turtle bay- we saw so many turtles everyday! Then when we needed a break from beach we all gathered at the pool! It was amazing!

This property is the best place we have stayed, ever. This is the 2nd time we stayed here. Walking distance (down the cul de sac) to the park and beach. Boogie board to the left with waves, baby beach in the center (protected, shallow, no waves), snorkel area to the right with fish and turtles swimming, and surfing waves to the right further. The pool is perfect, cannot even see it from the small road in front. Heaven on earth, for a large group (10-15), like ours.

I have a major issue with this property and the owner! On our second day at the property my young children were leaning on the deck railing looking at a gecko. The railing collapsed and they fell to the ground with the railing. It was a 4ft. drop. Both posts were rotted out! It was extremely dangerous. The owner did send his handyman to fix the railing over the next couple of days. Besides my children falling off his deck, which he offered no compensation for our very expensive stay, he made a property damage claim to ensure he would not have to pay for the deck repair on the insurance that we purchased to protect our trip! Pretty shady if you ask me. He has not reached out to rectify this so I have made a claim to VRBO and will be following up in hopes of some compensation. The deck NEEDS to be replaced! There were also several board that were up with nails sticking out and other rotting rails. Beware of your safety if you rent here.

Absolutely wonderful for families or a group of friends. There is also a studio guest house that can be included and is quite lovely.
The property also has use of a very nice pool. All sorts of pool toys and sand toys were available and you have a short half block walk to the beach. Lance, the owner, responds quickly if you have any concerns. All in all a wonderful experience and would love to go back.

We picked this property because of the great location and the fact there are 2 cottages back to back as this was a family vacay with grown children, thought would give privacy and it didn't not disappoint. On arrival we were however disappointed with the cleanliness of the the cottages, everything was clean except the floors, they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. My son mopped and vacuumed both places, the vacuum cleaner canister after one carpet was 1/3 fill. Pool wasn't usable, area was overgrown, dirt in the pool no pool sweep and filtration not on long enough. Yard wasn't a comfortable yard as is very overgrown/overplanted. All beds need new mattresses, they've put foam toppers on which is fine but the bottom sheets (on all 4 beds) didn't fit so every morning you would wake up in a puddle of bottom sheet. Did not make for a good nights sleep. I relayed this information to the owner directly thinking if I were the owner I'd want to know what was going on since there was a house manager, he was a bit miffed and defensive. I just think the property needs some TLC. All that said, addressing these items, I would definitely recommend this place, is perfect for 4 couples or a family vacation in a wonderful location.

We rented both units.
The location was so great for our group of 6 adults and 3 young children - a short walk to the park and beach, a large property for the kids to run around & explore, a nice little pool, and a beautiful lanai surrounded by greenery.
The weather was predicted to be stormy - typical March weather - but we were rewarded with very little rain during the day and tons of sunshine.
Well furnished, very nice beds, lots of stuff for outdoors(beach chairs, towels and sand toys), spacious kitchens.
Lance was a great host and very patient with our inquiries!!

Overall the trip was fantastic. Home is in a great location. Well laid out for large group and very close to beach and activities. Unfortunately, the pool was not usable and the gas grill was falling apart. One quick call to manager and a replacement grill was sent over but that also was not working properly.

We had an amazing 12 day trip with a group of 9 of us. Long time friends who are more like family enjoyed being close, but also able to do what we wanted--walking distance of the beach or pool days! We were also able to take a couple longer walks to shopping, food, bars and just all in all good times! We hit Costco before we settled in and it was ideal. We would definitely look into staying here again if our future travels find us in Kauai again. Thank you Lance!

We traveled with our young children and our parents. The property is walking distance to a beautiful beach. We walked there often during the trip. Also, the cottages are well-equipped with everything you need--including several items for children which was incredibly helpful. Beautiful fauna and the smell of plumeria in the yard. Walk to a variety of beaches! Walk to restaurants! And yet, the property is very private, between two high-end resorts. This was a perfect place for 8 adults. The property and amenities were not fancy, but it had everything we needed. The pool is a nice bonus - even though we had beaches a 2 min walk away, we used the pool every day as well.

I got married here about a week ago! My husband and I stayed in the adjoining cottage while our wedding party stayed in the big house. It was a gorgeous setting and amazing place to gather for a week with family and friends. Lance was communicative before and during our stay- he had us pay an extra fee to host the event but it was well worth it. The location was stellar and everyone loved the pool and spacious house. We rented the 2 duplexes for a family & friend vacation and had a great time! The 2 units worked great for our group because we put the old folks in one unit and the youngsters in another. The units were great but the sleeping arrangements were disappointing. The sofa sleeper in one unit was completely broken and unusable. The other unit was supposed to have a futon but didn't. But there was an air mattress and mats that we laid on the floors for a couple of people. I'd also recommend keeping the blinds closed in Unit 1 as the place really heats up with the west facing windows. Overall, very minor inconveniences. The units are really close to the beach and we enjoyed seeing the sea turtles every morning and evening. We could even hear the waves at night. And the pool and large shaded yard were perfect for relaxing when you've had enough sand. I'd definitely stay there again and can't wait for our next trip! Cottages were perfect for our family. The pool an added bonus! The location and layout of the cottage work well with the large porch area for meals together and card playing. All the beach chairs and towels a great help.

This was a girls’ trip away after one of our friend’s husbands passed away. It was the perfect getaway. Located really close to the beach, really close to excellent food, and the pool ended up being our saving grace when the weather was super hot.
