About this apartment rental
A charming apartment on several levels in a 16th century aristocratic building including: kitchen, bathroom and living room downstairs; bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The living room enjoys a view over Menton's old port and Sablettes beach.
Detailed description
The apartment is located in one of the oldest buildings of the city, next to the famous staircase leading from Quai Bonaparte to Saint Michel's Cathedral.
The building surface is 70 square meters and it has been recently renovated, keeping its original appearance.
The priest of the nearby cathedral may have dwelt in it in the past, as it is proved by the engraving with religious motifs, dated 1533, on the jamb of the front door.
Three levels:
Street level: entrance with a coat hook and some room for beach items.
Downstairs: kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, bathroom and living room with a sofa bed.
Upstairs: bedroom with one double bed and two single beds, all with futon mattress, and a small bathroom.
Note: The floors can be accessed throughout an old-fashioned, and therefore narrow, slate staircase.
The living room overlooks Sablettes beach and the old port, and beyond the French-Italian border, the view reaches up to Balzi Rossi rocks, with their prehistoric caves.
The kitchen, in masonry with a stone sink, is equipped with electric hotplates, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. It is furnished with old furniture and overlooks the staircase leading to the cathedral through a basement window. A small bathroom with shower (without window) and a closet is located next to the kitchen.
The upstairs level houses the bedroom, converted from what once was a local warehouse, and a small bathroom. The main feature of this area is a vaulted ceiling whose top height is 170 cm in the bedroom and 160 cm in the bathroom.
However, the highest spot is just over the double bed with an approximately 190 cm height.
The bedroom has two windows facing the inner street and the bathroom has got a basement window overlooking the staircase.

To know about summer
In summer time Menton is full of people, there are many things to do in the evening (shows, concerts...) whatever you like you can find, but sometimes the night could be noisy.

My teen daughter and I stayed here for a week at the end of May and it was the perfect homebase for us to explore the region by train. The apartment had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and we loved the bedding! My daughter had a nap in the hammock every day when we got in from our adventures! I enjoyed the well appointed kitchen and the comfy couch with a view and ocean breeze. Watching the beach from the living room windows and listening to the chatter of people going up and down the stairs from the bedroom was very entertaining. The old town of Menton was beautiful and ease of finding groceries, snacks and places to shop and eat was fantastic! It was also convenient to be a mere 15 minute walk from either train station! The owners did a great job of describing the apartment in their posting.

Characterful apartment with stunning sea view in beautiful Menton Old Town
If you want to live as a tourist in a standardised environment, find yourself a big international hotel. If you want to spend a couple of weeks living a la Mentonaise in an ancient, quirky, seafront apartment a short walk from the beach and everything Menton has to offer, book this apartment. Steep steps and some low ceilings means that this apartment won't necessarily suit everyone, but if you're after character and authenticity you'll love it. The sea view from the large, stone-floored lounge is amazing and it's only a five minute walk to the town's many cafes, restaurants, bars and shops or down to the beach. The owners are helpful and easy to communicate with. We flew to Nice and caught the train to Menton; a really lovely way to arrive.

super Ort
Ansonsten top Adresse.

A beautiful and unique place, highly recommended
We had a lovely time in this fascinating and ancient apartment, whose picturesque position could not be improved. Andrea and Giulia were extremely helpful in their communication before the stay, and Zohra, her husband, and her daughter were on hand throughout the time that we were there. It is quite noisy, as some of the reviews mention, but this is to be expected and is a small sacrifice for an otherwise wonderful apartment in a perfect location. Certainly somewhere we would love to visit again!

Excellent sejour!!

Stylish Menton maisonette
We stayed at this apartment for 12 nights in late October 2019. The flat is extremely well located, with exceptional views of the gravelly / sandy plage des Sablettes and the Mediterranean beyond.
The most important point is that the description of the apartment by the owner is entirely honest and accurate. The building is old (perhaps not quite ancient) but the accommodation is warm, comfortable, clean, basically / tastefully furnished and decorated, and clearly cared for. Without exception the kitchen equipment, and other electrical equipment, worked well. The wi-fi was reliable, and adequate for our purposes. There was plentiful hot water and, because of the building’s thick walls, little if any noise from other apartments. With some adjustments, we slept well, even though some nights were very humid.
Communication with the owner during the booking process and throughout our stay was satisfactory, and Jane helped us settle in and pointed out the locality’s amenities.
Issues that prospective renters should be aware of are (1) the living / kitchen area and the bedroom are two floors apart, separated by the entrance hall (2) the bedroom and ensuite ceilings are very low, and will be awkward for tall people (3) it is difficult to understand why the mattress on the main double-bed is of a thin futon-type, which I suggest makes it unsuitable for long stayers (4) the spiral staircase connecting the floors is narrow, in parts poorly lit, and may be difficult to manage for the elderly and infirm (5) there is a road between the building and the beach which is busy and noisy throughout the day - despite the local administration’s best efforts - in common with most towns on this coast.

Thanks a lot for a wonderful time in Menton !!!

A perfect location for a short break
The apartment was perfect for our short break to Menton - it's got a great old-fashion charm (although this does mean narrow staircases and low ceilings in the bedroom - wasn't a problem for us, but could be for those less mobile).
The location was perfect in the old town, overlooking the beach and coast towards Ventimiglia, and near some nice restaurants and bars. Some local bus routes ran nearby, but the longer distance buses and the train station are 15mins walk away.
We didn't meet Andrea, but Jane welcomed us and checked us out. She was friendly and helpful, and happily accommodated our arrival/departure times.
Overall, a great stay and would thoroughly recommend.

Menton, December
We enjoyed the quirks of the house and the attractiveness of the area. It was warm enough to swim in the sea! We'd recommend to others.

Great apartment in a perfect location
My wife and I could not have been happier with our stay in Andrea's apartment. While we didn't meet Andrea, Simone checked us in/out and he was most friendly/helpful. Communication with both Andrea and Simone was always timely and professional.
The apartment was clean, well-furnished and in an excellent location (directly across the street from the beach and very near many great dining options). We especially enjoyed spending time in the breezy living room, where we would relax in the hammock overlooking the beach (my new happy place) or enjoy a happy hour at the table by the windows.
The one call-out I'd make is to be aware that given it's location so near the beach, noise from passerby at night can be a factor, but it certainly wasn't significant enough to stop us from giving our stay 5 stars.
Our only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay!

The other reviews summarize the unique nature of this wonderful apartment. Andrea communicated quickly and effectively and made our stay as perfect as possible. Yes, this is an old building - the date above the outside door reads in the 1500s. If you have been to Menton you can imagine the feeling of staying in a place that opens out onto a view of Basillica St. Michel - a view from your bedroom and your front door. The location is so amazing we often noted looks of jealousy as we walked by/through tourists taking pictures of the Basillica and steps and into our very own front door right off the steps. Although we were tourists ourselves, there is something about what this place does to your mind and soul if you can relax and take in the location, the feel and the history of the place and it makes you feel a part of Menton and its soul. The pictures actually fail to capture the breathtaking view out of the windows and yes, the noise is there, but these are the sounds of summer on the beach - a piano bar and other restaurants on the street below and just life in general - it easy to close the shutters but never was necesary. We were able to prepare several amazing meals from the nearby markets and found that everything we had to adapt to was part of the experience of truly being in Menton. If you have not been to Menton and want to truly get the feel and have the city affect you - this is the place to stay - you will never be the same. We have left part of our hearts in Menton and we have taken some amazing memories with us - a fair exchange. We will be back and we will make sure it is at a time when we can stay here again.

A Romantic Apartment in Old Menton
This was the second time we stayed in this charming apartment with a wonderful view of the Mediterranean. Morning coffee at the window looking out to the sea provided an experience we will never forget. Andrea and Maria Giulia are excellent landlords and were responsive to our needs. They arranged for their representative in Menton to pick us up at the gare routière, being there for us despite our flight delays. Residing in old Menton in an ancient building was a special experience in itself.

Ideal Location & Charming Apt in Menton
It was easy to communicate with Maria and Andrea. This was very helpful as we booked only one week in advance. They also offered great suggestions for food. The location of the apartment is absolutely amazing. It's situated among the charming streets of the old town in Menton while also being directly across from a public beach. This section of public beach was under construction (gladly they weren't working over the weekend) during our visit so we opted to pay for lounge chairs at a private beach, just a 5 minute walk further.
We really loved the interesting architecture of the apartment and the decor. It was lovely to lay on the hammock and read while looking out at the beautiful water. All of their pictures on HomeAway represent the apt well. The only reason my review is 4-stars (instead of five) is because the beds are all futon mattresses. This was not in the description and I find futon mattresses very stiff and uncomfortable. This made it hard to sleep well. Also, it's good to note that if you visit during a hot time of year, the bedroom does feel warm. It is on the top floor so air circulation isn't as good as the living room. They have one standing fan for the bedroom, but an additional would help.
If futon mattresses do not bother you then this is a 5-star HomeAway apartment in Menton.

Charming Apartment with Great Location and View
We rented this lovely apartment in Vieux Menton during spring 2017. It was a delightful and interesting experience. A relaxing highlight was sitting at the windows overlooking the blue Mediterranean while having coffee or a glass of wine. As evident in the photos, the simple decor is asthetically pleasing. Although the building is ancient, the apartment has modern conveniences, all of which worked well. The owners were most helpful and even installed a range extender to strengthen the Internet signal, which then worked perfectly for us. The apartment is on two levels with two flights of stairs to be navigated. For us, it was no problem. We enjoyed the convenient location, situated in the Old Town, across the street from the sandy beach. Barbara, the owners' agent in Menton, was also very helpful. We hope to return.

Traumhaft schöne Wohnung an traumhafter Lage

A unique property with an amazing location
This was one of our favorite stays of the many we have done with various websites. I appreciated that they checked in with us since we had a small baby to let us know they didn't feel it was appropriate because of the layout and the floors. We went ahead with it anyway and it still worked out well for us. I do think if our baby was walking we would have gone elsewhere but nevertheless it was a unique and beautiful property in such a cool location. We will definitely go back if we make it to Menton when our little one gets a little bigger.
I love this part of the world, and this property highlighted so many of the things that I love about it: amazing light, view of the ocean, the charm of old town, the bells of the old church right outside, the feel of inhabiting such an old building... all was magical for us.

Excellent apartment at the heart of the old town
A truly wonderful apartment in a historic building, and furnished with class. A lovely space for relaxing and resting in between trips to the market, sightseeing and swimming at the Sablettes beach. Having a coffee or meal by the window, watching the world go by is a wonderful memory.
Andrea and Barbara were very welcoming and helpful. We had no problems whatsoever with our stay. The kitchen and bathrooms are very good, modern and spacious. Spotlessly clean, with a good supply of clean sheets and towels. The kitchen had everything you need to cook a decent meal.
There is some noise from the road below, as well as the street, but nothing closing the windows wouldn't solve. We will certainly be returning soon. Many thanks Andrea and Barbara, hopefully we will meet again soon!

We loved this apartment in old town Menton!
We loved our stay in this charming apartment in Old Town Menton. The apartment was extremely well located and just short walk from the beach and charming town. We were welcomed off the train by Lorenzo who walked us to apartment and he was extremely helpful with suggestions about things to do and see. He was helpful throughout the week if we had any questions and prompt with replies. The apartment has spectacular views of Sablette beach which we used daily due to its close proximity. We enjoyed walking the town at night because there was always something to do or see. The apartment was very clean and well decorated and had the old world charm. The kitchen was well supplied and had a washer and dishwasher which was appreciated. The owners were very agreeable to comumincate with and did as they promised when it came to making any arrangements for key pickup or drop off. The town felt extremely safe and we had no concerns when our teenagers ventured out on their own. Due to its very central location, potential renters must keep in mind that there can be some noise due to pedestrians which we often thought was part of the apartments charm. Also, if WiFi is important keep in mind that the apartment doesn't have any. When we come back to Mento we would definitely consider this apartment again. It would be difficult to beat this location and I would recommend it to friends and family.
