About this house rental
Delight in this rare opportunity for seclusion on Crystal Lake. Enjoy natural wonders while staying in this unique home. The Lodge is nestled in 3 acres of woods and enjoys lake views out both the front and the rear of the home. Your150 foot private beachfront on Crystal Lake is directly across the road from the house, 160 feet from your vacation home to the water's edge. Round Lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore adjoin the property to the north and a creek meanders through. Deer, fox, sandhill cranes, (green herons this year!) and bald eagles are frequent visitors.
The Lodge is clean and spacious. There is plenty of room to find private spaces even if you are with a larger group. The fully furnished five bedroom/three bath home sleeps 2 - 12. The two story great room features a field stone wall with a gas fireplace. The loft has 2 bedrooms each with a private deck and spectacular views. Lodge rooms are appointed with artwork from local artists.
A screen 'sleeping' porch with a full size futon couch is attached to one of the main floor bedrooms. The porch over looks Round Lake. The porch can be a quiet place to escape with a book, away from the common areas. Also a real treat for sleeping, the porch offers the comforts of home and the sights, sounds & smells of sleeping outdoors.
The Lodge works well for multiple families & groups. It can also provide a tranquil retreat space for smaller gatherings. It is well suited for reunions of family and friends, yoga retreats, spa weekends, long weekends with the guys or gals, as well as a base location for wedding parties.
The Lodge is located seven miles from the MDNR boat launch on the south side of Crystal Lake. The sandy private beach on Crystal Lake offers a safe, secluded area perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, water skiing, and sailing. If you are bringing or renting a boat, please provide your own mooring. Beach amenities include a dock and a fire pit at the water's edge.
And while we hope for good weather during your stay, the house is equipped with a large generator that turns on automatically in the event of a power outage.
The surrounding area has much to offer for outdoor recreation and site seeing. Nearby communities of Beulah, Frankfort and Empire are unique, charming, and free of traffic and chain stores. Galleries, boutiques and fine dining restaurants abound. We are happy to make recommendations to our favorite restaurants, breweries, wineries and award winning distilleries, all in the immediate area. Point Betsie lighthouse is a 5 mile drive or bike ride from the Lodge. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, begins right here, in our back yard. M-22 is a lovely drive through the park to Lake Michigan beaches, the Platte River, the dune climb and Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Frankfort is a deep water port on Lake Michigan with public boat access. There are many good charter captains in the area for salmon and trout fishing on the big lake. There are seven outstanding golf courses within 20 minutes. Located 2 miles from Crystal Downs Country Club and 24 miles from Arcadia Bluffs, the Lodge is a perfect location for golf weekends.
Fresh, locally grown products are readily available at farmer's markets & farm stands. A wide variety of mostly organic local produce, eggs and meats, flowers, syrups and honey are easily available. Northwestern Michigan wine country is just to the north with over 20 tasting rooms in Leelanau County.
This home is a treasure and a true sanctuary, providing an escape on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Please contact us if you have questions or would like a tour.

Nice place to spend a week with all the many attractions in the area. Family enjoyed the property and accommodations very much.

When staying Up North, space is at a premium and the views are a must-- this property delivers on both. The owner is prompt when replying to texts and was quick to fix the one small issue we had. Truly a delight and can't wait to return.

As a renter you worry, "am I getting what I paid for?" my answer was yes and then some. Everything went smooth from beginnign to end.

The Lodge is quite large and accommodated our group of 3 generations as well as extended family. The upstairs area worked out great for our daughter and her 2 kids. The primary bedroom was spacious and off to one side for privacy. The deck was huge with a lot of seating and a dining area. The location was great - Crystal Lake is a very short walk away. There is a nice seating area on the lake. The water is amazingly clear, and the lake is perfect for kayaking. Grandkids loved the dock and the kayaks! Not a 5-star hotel but lake house rustic. Mary, the owner, has made some significant upgrades. She stayed in touch with us during our visit and was very sweet. We enjoyed our stay there.

We had a lovely time staying at this property. It was amazing for our family of five, including some little ones. The location was great for getting to Sleeping Bear and into Frankfort.

This house has tons of room and a beautiful beach/firepit area just across the street. It was very clean inside and had comfortable furniture. Really great choice for a large group!

This is a spacious house, great for larger groups and mixed family vacations. Most of the bedrooms are on the small size, but since the couples in our group were comfortable sharing queen beds, it wasn’t an issue. We also loved the location, situated in between Beulah and Frankfort. Unfortunately we had high winds while we were there, which limited our time on the water and caused major issues with the boat we rented for the week, but the house itself was great. Would recommend.

Family vacation
We had the most amazing time staying here. Centrally located between Beulah and Frankfort, we had easy access to either town for dining, groceries, shopping and ice cream!
But we also spent much time at the house- 4 kids under 14, and 6 adults, we had plenty of room for sleeping and made quite a few meals to enjoy at the large dining table or outside on the deck.
We spent hours at the dock with paddle boards and rafts, and had a campfire on the nights it wasn’t windy. We also rented a lily pad for a few days from a place in town and it was endless fun for everyone.
Highly recommend staying here- just fabulous!

We had a great time at the house. Plenty of room for all 10 of us for a girls trip!

This home was absolutely perfect for our group of 6 adults and 5 kids under 5, and is even better than the picturesh! The house had plenty of space, was right by the dunes, and had a beach area that was the highlight of our stay. We spent every day playing in the sand, sitting by the water, and even swimming (in October!!!). Every night we watched the sunset and had bonfires on the beach with shooting stars soaring overhead. The host went out of her way to give us a list hof kid friendly restaurants and things to do in the area. Highly recommend this VRBO! Thanks for the memories!

Perfect spot for our fall family getaway. House had everything we could have needed and more with a private beach, dock and sooo much more.
We will be back!

I’ve been going to Crystal Lake for 50+ years, and this stay did not disappoint!
This is my second time staying here- one in the winter where we had tons of snow- and wanted to try the summer. We really enjoyed our stay here— and we had perfect weather that did not disappoint. It was perfect for our family that lives to cook and spend time together. Had a couple small issues and Happt to report that Mary, our host was super responsive and addressed questions immediately and addressed little requests immediately. The dryer knob was broken and she warned us in advance and the replacement part installed just days after arrival. Thumbs up!
While the house doesn’t have a sandy beach, it has a great dock and a sandy, rock free bottom when you can wade waist deep for hundreds of yards. Bring your own beach towels and sunshade. I ended up buying one of those pop up beach cabanas to get out of the sun.
The large table and well equipped kitchen handles our family of cooks working together at one time. Grocery stores and restaurants are 20min away- so urge to arrive with refreshments, dinner and breakfast in hand so you don’t have to arrive and the go back out immediately after a long drive.
The beds were comfortable and no fights finding a bathroom. The Lodge is lovely and oozes classic lodge up north charm without feeling out of date. My favorite part was that it is set back and surrounded by lush woods. Felt very private and secluded with.lots of natural Michigan beauty. It could be tamed a bit for better views and the exterior deck could use a little staining - but that is nit-picking due to the higher price point. You only get one set of bath towels per person- so plan accordingly! (Learned sadly this is because each season guest towels disappear as they depart). I wished for a small wagon the many times we trudged up the stairs or ramp with luggage and groceries- bring a collapsible one if you have it!.
It sits on Huntsman Cove, so it is a little protected). I was very sad to leave which is always a good indicator.
Thank you for sharing your home again, Mary!

Crystal Lake Lodge really has a lot of room to spread out. Bedrooms were plentiful. Great views of the lake. Close to many cities. Had a great time

Great vacation
We had a family of 11 stay at this property and we had a wonderful week! Anything we needed, Mary was very quick to respond. The house had ample room for our group including bedrooms and extra sleeping spaces (loft w/ futon, screened in porch, etc). It was nice to feel like we were out in the woods yet we were only a short walk to our private beach.

We had a group of families staying together . The house was able to accommodate everyone . We really enjoyed the deck overlooking the lake and my brother and his wife loved the sleeping porch. The lake is wonderful, very clean and clear. We rented the kayaks and the lake was a beautiful place to try that!

What a great getaway!
The beautiful house and beach did not disappoint! My husband and I spent a week with our two children, my daughter's friend, and my two nephews (all are twenty-somethings). Despite the weather being a bit iffy, we enjoyed bonfires by the lake, cards at the big table in the evening, and the view from the front porch! We had plenty of space for privacy or family gatherings. Everyone enjoyed Mary's kayaks, too! Mary was extremely informative and helpful. What a gorgeous area -- we checked out the lighthouse, dunes, Traverse City, local breweries, etc. Overall, it was a relaxing, bonding, and fun-filled week! I highly recommend the area and this house!

This was a great place to stay while checking out the area. It was quiet and cozy to come back to after being out exploring in the fall weather. Although we didn’t need anything while there the property manager was quick to respond to questions we had before arriving.

Our family of adults ages 24 to 74 had a great time reconnecting at this property. There was plenty of space for quiet conversations and reading as well as for the whole crowd to be together. Owner Mary was very helpful and the property was as described and decently equipped and she even managed to provide perfect weather. Four of us are over 6 ft tall and had some challenges with the Low beams upstairs, but hey - it was vacation and mostly we weren’t up there. Beds were comfortable with low or no foot boards. The sofas downstairs were Uncomfortable for us too, as mentioned by a shorter family, and while nice looking their best days are definitely over. Lots to do in the area and the beach was perfect.

Beachin’ in Beulah, Mi
Awesome location, lake, and private beach. The cabin had a lot of space for 3 couples. We loved the beach area by the lake and utilized it daily. Mary provided plenty of beach chairs, a small deck, and a bonfire pit by the water edge. We rented a boat for a few days, which was nice, but we really preferred to float in rafts by the cottage. The kitchen was very functional, although the stove top was difficult to work with -wobbly burners and no indicators of heat on the dials. The rest of the appliances and grill were fine. We had to buy a disposable sheet pan since none were available. Otherwise we had everything we needed. The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and provided enough storage for personal items. We were also glad that fans were available since it did get a little hot. The location was perfect for exploring many up north towns such as: Beulah, Frankfort, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor
Overall, this cabin had everything we needed and expected.

Crystal Lake Lodge
Our family of 10 stayed at the lodge in mid June; the property is located on a shallow bay which meant the water was a little warmer than other areas of Crystal Lake.
The lodge is very nice with lots of storage, huge dining table, large deck and smaller decks. Quiet, secluded, woods surrounds the lodge which makes you feel you are isolated even though you are in a neighborhood.
My husband and I stayed in the master bedroom which is massive, includes an upper sitting/futon area and 2 step down sleeping area. The master bath consists of 2 small sections with 1 having a Jacuzzi and exercise bike and the other containing the shower tub, vanity, toilet and 2 large built in storage cabinets. Storage in this unit is more than spacious, with double dresser, 2 more built in dressers, closet. There is a gas fireplace, ceiling fan and lots of windows. The best room in the house, hands down.
The 4 other bedrooms were much, much smaller and the 2 other bathrooms were small as well. The sleeping porch was enjoyed by the youngest grandchild who loved it immensely even though the nightly temperatures did dip for several nights. 2 other grandchildren shared the loft, 1 on the futon and the other sleeping on a mattress on the floor. My only granddaughter had a room of her own and my daughter and son/spouse took the other 2 bedrooms.
We cooked all our meals at the lodge and enjoyed a cookout on the beach. We did make a trip to the Cherry Hut for pie which was the best. Also visited 2 lighthouses nearby, hiked in Sleeping Bear NP (a little over 4 mile walk to the entrance of Old Indian Trail which can take you to Lake Michigan, did some rock hunting and visited the cute town of Frankfort. played miniature golf, rented kayaks from Mary and toured the lake in a rented pontoon for a few hours and just enjoyed the lake at the house. There is plenty to do in this Covid-19 self-isolating vacation spot and when we did venture out, face masks and distancing rules did apply and I felt safe.
Mary keeps the lodge in excellent condition and is there for you when help is needed and quickly responds to any questions,
We traveled here from Missouri wanting to get away from the heat and having become dissatisfied with crowded Lake of the Ozarks and Branson. We found Crystal Lake Lodge and the surrounding area to be lovely and would certainly consider returning to beautiful Michigan.

Wooded setting on beautiful Crystal Lake
This beautiful property in the woods provides lovely privacy but yet only 100 feet from the clear waters of Crystal Lake. There were no neighbors to see or hear! The deck was quite large and accommodated extra family one evening during a family reunion. We did bring along extra chairs for the occasion. Kitchen was well stocked except for small bowls, with plenty of space to prepare large multi-family meals.
The fire pit and surrounding Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake will provide memories for years to come. Awesome dock and shallow water was great for kids! We brought along a kayak and paddle board that we kept on the beach. We also enjoyed biking in the area.
We liked the screened in porch and also used it as an extra bedroom. The surrounding nature was a bonus.
Mary answered all of our questions quickly and gave us suggestions when needed. We hope to rent this property again!!!

Rustic retreat
Loved the fireplace & hearth. our stay was cool with sun. A few suggestions: Towel quality could be improved, grill too, instructions for fireplace lighting, living room furniture nice but not meant for short statured people or the nine adults we had. Loved the dining table-easy to have all us together & room for food. Enjoyed seeing the birds& deer. Mary was very responsive. We’d stay again! “The up north cruisers”

Perfect location for our getaway
The Crystal Lake Lodge was the perfect location for our multi-family vacation. The lodge offered plenty of sleeping, dining and living room for our three families. The beach area was perfect for the kids to play and great for campfires. The owner is great - very responsive and helpful. Crystal Lake is absolutely beautiful and it is very easy to spend the day hanging out in the water, but the house is also conveniently located near other great destinations like the dunes, hiking trails, rivers for canoe trips and cute towns worth a visit. We would definitely return!

Amazing Family vacation at beautiful Crystal Lake Lodge !
We loved our stay at Mary's place on Crystal Lake - gorgeous home, views, and water. Mary was so kind and purchased kayaks for us to rent from her during out stay, saved us time and money renting from somewhere else! The house was impeccable and suited our group of 13, 3 families, perfectly. The nearby Indian Trail was an amazing hike that takes you down to the Lake Michigan shore. The location of this home is incredible to do some site seeing, hiking and water activities. We can't wait to come back again next year!

Great family getaway
What a peaceful spot on Crystal Lake. Convenient to golf, lighthouses, parks and more.
The house is comfortable for an extended family group. Lots of space for everyone. So much fun to watch the grandchild play on the beach and then come back to grill up dinner. Highly recommend it!!
