About this house rental
Thanksgiving weekend is open, three night minimum.
All rentals include use of my snowmobile, strictly for going to and from the house. (With waivers stating your responsibility for any accidents or damages.)
There's no predicting snowfall but the neighborhood roads are generally closed by late December.
Short Term Rental Permit #2023-275
Beautiful private home 7000 feet up in the High Sierras, 20 feet from the Stanislaus National Forest. Panoramic forest and mountain views to the South and East. Hiking and skiing trails right out the front door. Complete privacy and solitude. So many windows that you feel like you're outside when you're inside.
Most quiet during the spring thaw, when "The snow is melting into music." (John Muir). Wildflowers abounding in July and August, during the annual music festival. Glorious warm days and blazing aspens in the Autumn.
Winter brings the full California ski experience. Once there's a good base of snow, the roads in the residential area are closed and groomed, so no cars are allowed to enter, and everything remains completely white. The snowmobile ride up from the village adds to the adventure! Road's end location is perfect for sledding.
The two bedrooms, each with an adjoining full bath, are on the entry level. The master bedroom has a wood stove and panoramic views. It has a king-size bed and a twin. The smaller bedroom has a twin bed, and also a trundle bed which can be used as one or two twins. The whole second story is one large room, with a wood stove and windows all around. It has a half bath and futons for three or four.

While I wasn't able to stay at Stefani’s house in Bear Valley, I felt compelled to offer a kind review as she was a gracious and very communicative host throughout our booking and ultimate cancellation. Due to the pandemic, shelter-in-place orders, and extreme weather, our reserved dates were at risk of being cancelled for situations beyond our control. Stefani sent us updated information around lockdown and graciously worked with us to hold alternate dates. We ultimately had to cancel and she made the process very easy. We hope to return in the future during simpler times as the property looks beautiful. Caroline - Berkeley CA
The views from your cabin are outstanding and they just made us want to sit and relax and enjoy the comfortable surroundings. I ski at Bear Valley often, mostly just to be in the Sierras and take in the view, and that feeling was even better in the nice summer weather from the comfort of your dining room table with a glass of wine! John and Carol - Livermore CA
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in your mountain home. The views were spectacular, and the house was very comfortable. We had a couple of days of great weather and one day to enjoy a rainy day by the fire. Neither of us had been to Bear Valley before, and we found lots to see and do. It must be beautiful there in the winter, and when all of the wild flowers are in bloom. We also enjoyed driving around the neighborhood and looking at the many beautiful homes.

'My wife and I had a wonderful relaxing weekend at your cabin. Everything went fine and everything worked. Loved the view from the top of the hill behind the cabin. Reading a book and taking our morning coffee on the deck was so serene. You have a great location and a great cabin. We'll tell our friends and family about this Bear Valley jewel.' Chuck - Martinez CA
'Everything in the cabin worked great for us, with the fire keeping us plenty warm at night. We hope to go up again next year and add a couple more days to the stay. Really enjoyed the deck and views along with all the stars at night...Thanks again and great place!!' John - Livermore CA
'We would like to thank you for letting us use your beautiful treetop home in Bear Valley. It was more than we expected. The views were fantastic and the furnishings, etc. were just like home! Very comfortable and in good taste.' Gail - San Jose, CA
'Over the past few years, we have stayed in a number of Bear Valley homes... I must say, however, that I enjoyed the time my family spent at your home more so than the rest. What a view!' Chris and Pam - La Mesa, CA
'Thank you so much for the opportunity to rent your cabin for a couple of weeks. We had a great time, and never tired of the incredible view and comfortable accommodations. We look forward to staying at your place again in the future!' Jeri and Tom - Berkeley CA
'Although this was our first trip to Bear, we'll definitely be coming again this winter. We've stayed in many parts of the Sierra over the years, but were really impressed with Bear Valley, especially as a multi-activity family area. I hope our plans and the availability of your cabin coincide again.' Peter - Los Altos CA

This was our first overnight winter trip to Bear Valley and we will definitely be back. We appreciated how comfortable and clean the cabin was, but what made it truly special were the views, and the fact that our kids could play in the snow right by the cabin. We had a nice walk up to the top of Bloods Ridge from the end of the cul-de-sac where the cabin is located.
The design of the cabin worked well with our two children (ages 2 and 5) and one of the best things was that our dogs were welcome too. The open concept main level lets everyone interact while cooking, playing games, watching movies, etc.
Having a snowmobile included in the rental was another feature we appreciated. Because the neighborhood is only accessible by snowmobile in the winter, it feels far more peaceful, quiet, and remote than most winter destinations. The night sky is incredible and I was able to walk our dogs without a headlamp because the moon was so bright.
We will definitely be back! Thank you, Stefani, for sharing your beautiful cabin!

We loved staying in Stefani's Bear Valley house. Super cozy and comfortable, great views, totally quiet, and an amazing location at the edge of open space that goes for miles and miles. For those who like sledding, there is an epic run right outside the house.
Stefani is friendly, helpful, easygoing and always available. Overall, we would be glad to return.
This is not a criticism, but for prospective guests I would note that the location of the house comes with some things to consider:
1. The house is at the end of a steep road, and with snow you need at least an AWD vehicle to get there. (We used AWD and chains.)
2. If there is lots of snow the roads are closed and access is by snowmobile only. We didn't do this, but given that the house is 1.5 miles from the parking lot this would not be for everyone. We imagined that it would be challenging for a family to get to and from the ski resort every day if the road to the house were closed.

This property matched our best expectations! It is located at the southern end of a dead end road, so is the last property in that direction. The second-story deck is on the south side, with views to the west and south over a sloping meadow, past granite and forested mountains to the distant snow-capped peaks. There is not even a neighboring cabin to disrupt the view. We felt total privacy as promised.
During our stay (late August) the south-facing deck is in shade until mid morning, then again from mid-afternoon onward. There is a (smallish) canvas umbrella for some limited help with shade otherwise.
The kitchen feels large for a mountain home, and is well provisioned -- almost over-provisioned (who needs that many wine glasses!) -- with every kind of kitchen implement and appliance we needed. The two bedrooms (both downstairs) are large each with their own bathroom. The one king-sized bed was comfortable.
There is indeed a hiking trail starting essentially next to the entrance to the property. We enjoyed several of the many wilderness hikes that are short drives from Bear Valley.
The property owner was friendly, cheery, and quick to respond. We had a wonderful, relaxing time in paradise, and felt kind of sad to leave!

Great stay! Lots of snow and winter fun! Thanks Stefani!

This is a great little cabin. It feels like it was put together in the 90's and not much has changed. If you can hang with that, the views are incredible. Once we got there, we stayed close by - sledding in the driveways up by the road. Stef, the owner, is a great communicator.

We had a lovely time in Stefani's cabin! It is small but very cozy and has everything you'll need for a winter stay in BV.

The cabin makes a great get-away. We slept fine. We found everything we needed for meal preparation. The decor could use some refurbishing but everything was clean and functional.

We loved being able to walk out the door and go on a hike. Plus, it felt so private with a patio looking out on a mountain slope with wildflowers. We enjoyed our stay.

Alpine view
We had a great short stay at this alpine house in January. The kitchen was excellently equipped, and the fireplace heated up the house very nicely. The beds were very comfortable. Being so far up the hill, the views and alpenglow were first rate. When we didn't use the snowmobile, it was about a 20 min walk down the hill in the morning to the lodge area on a snowy road. Longer to walk up of course. The host was timely and informative in her responses. I highly recommend this house for those who like to be off the beaten trail.

We made the best of our short trip to bear valley. The trail to get to the front door is difficult and steep. Inside the home could use some updating. It could use some more couch space if your going to accommodate big families. The view is beautiful and it was quite so that was a plus.

We really enjoy the stay in this place. It is clean and at good location. The snowmobile ride to the cabin is also a very unique experience to our family.

This home is more beautiful than the photos indicate. I felt like we were in the treetops! The views were incredible. Quick access to a nearby hiking trail which has lovely views of the surrounding mountains. Overall, an excellent stay. We home to come back in the wintertime.

The photos don't do the view justice, it's breathtaking! The location is great: the house feels isolated and private, close to hiking trails. It's very clean and well maintained with a fully equipped kitchen. Beds are comfortable. The only downside is the VERY old TV.

Awesome view
Located in a perfect location with stunning views of the mountains and snow. Amenities are all good. Plenty of blankets, towels, utensils and other household items to let you enjoy the stay and not to worry about anything else. Very quiet neighborhood.
Wished the carpets and stovetop were a bit more thoroughly cleaned, but not a major concern. Arrive early if traveling in winter as getting to the property may be a bit challenging. Not all cell phone carriers have good coverage there.
Overall, my family liked the stay. Kids loved the winter getaway in the ski week. We'll return for sure.

We are a big family of 6 including our 3 dogs and it was big enough for all of us! The kids and dogs really enjoyed exploring the area and playing in the snow. The home heated up very easily when it got really cold too which was very nice. There were many board games and movies that we can choose from. Maybe it wasn't rented out much before we got there because some things were a bit dusty and looked like they haven't been used in a while. All was good though and we enjoyed our time there a lot. The views are amazing!

Stayed during the Fall time. The views are amazing! The place was very clean. Furnishings and carpet are a bit outdated, but I would absolutely stay again. I think it'd be beautiful in any season.

Wonderful spot - secluded, private, natural, gorgeous views, and trail access! Ten-minute drive to Alpine Lake activities. Owner was great and very responsive. The property is extremely comfortable and fully-equipped. A little simple updating and refreshing would make it perfect, but I would go back as-is in a minute. Thank you!

Love Bear Valley!
This is a great cabin with access to the Bear Valley Lake and great views. Enjoyed every minute at the cabin.

Beautiful rustic cabin with spectacular views
This is a beautiful rustic cabin with spectacular views. Our family loves to hike, and this cabin is literally steps away from an amazing trail leading up to Bloods Ridge. In less than 10 minutes, we were able to experience breathtaking views that would typically require many hours of hiking in most locations. We especially loved the open floor plan of the cabin on the second floor, and the huge windows which allowed us to take in all of the lush beauty around us. Our 13-year-old son is an avid nature lover, and he spent hours outside exploring the wildflowers and running around in the yard. Stef was extremely attentive to our questions. Thank you!
