Lovely, quiet sanctuary with wonderful ocean view. Very comfortable place to stay--we've stayed there 3 times. Nevertheless, renters should be aware of very steep driveway, and inside stairway that is steep--treads too narrow and rise too high. Both are manageable, but just be aware. In lovely neighborhood between town and the Pt. Cabrillo Lighthouse.

Most of the electrical outlets throughout the home didn’t not work could not plug things in . When the microwave was running the house shorted out and lights flashed and blinked .
There were hardly any light bulbs in most of the outdoors porch lights and fixtures in the home so we could see .
There was a dirty used tampon on the side of the hot tub when we got there . :(. No net to clean out and debris out of the hot tub if needed .
Railings were very flimsy and lose and there were soft spots on the floor of the deck which were super sketchy. Since it’s 20 feet up in the air .
Vaccum had a hole in the cord and smelt like electrical fire when we tried to vacuum..so we didn’t . The washing machine’s thing on the inside was loose . And there were screens missing from the sliding glass door so we could leave the door open to get fresh air with out filling house with. Bugs . Also not enough trash bags were provided for a 5 night 6 guest stay .
And the inside of the house smelled like A old people a house . ( you know what I mean ) like a dirty sweaty baseball cap. Furniture was very old and rickety . No where to put clothes away except in the closet that barely had a hanger .
Had outdoor furniture on the inside 😳 hmmm… Veiw was good . Location was good driveway was a absolutely nightmare. And the WiFi sucked . Never could hook up to it . Ugh even after resetting the modem.

There are three recliners in the living room.

The view was great. The neighborhood was pleasant. The parking was a challenge. Heed their warnings and bring the 4 wheel drive.

The place looks larger in the pictures. We were disappointed in the size of the TV/common space where there is only space for four people, not six and the furniture was old. Luckily we spent time with family at another facility with more space.
This was the biggest complaint.
The dining table had only five chairs, one of which had a wobbly arm. The spa foamed up.
The layout of the kitchen was good and it was well equipped. The second floor was very nice. The view was nice.
Did not understand why parking in the cul-de-sac was prohibited.

We loved our time here! The views were amazing, and we loved using the fireplace on the cool nights.

We enjoyed our stay - very comfortable and everything you need plus wonderful beach views!

The views from the house are beautiful but there are only 2 outdoor plastic chairs on the deck that really need to be replaced and the door going out to the deck won’t stay closed unless you lock it. The house itself was nice but needs some attention…kitchen faucet needs to be fixed and there is a leak in the downstairs bathroom. Also the shower head in the upstairs bathroom should be replaced because it’s corroded. With just a few minor repairs Whale Song would be a 5 star house!

The home is located between Mendocino and Ft Bragg. Clean and appointed well enough for the price point; would definitely return.

Loved our stay! It was quiet and relaxing and the view was amazing!! Totally not the owners fault but there was a skunk that stalked us the entire stay. Just something that happens in nature but loved everything else about our stay.

We have stayed at this property several times over the last 8 years and it is still a wonderful place to pull the plug and enjoy the peace and quiet as well as the view. I will say that the house doesn't have the same family warmth and love that it did years ago. 10 years of online renting and use is taking a toll and it shows. all the lights are now LED which are way way too bright at the standard 6500K light temp/color which is very very sad for the coast and a 'warm' property. look into LED lights that are rated at 2700-3000K otherwise it just looks like warehouse lighting inside. pictures are missing off the walls and other aspects of rental 'entropy' are becoming very evident. there is also trash that previous renters have let fall over the decking and are visible in the brush below....also sad. I'd still come back, but thought I would offer some constructive criticism and input for a place that I do love.

The location, views, hot tub, and decor were incredible! There were too many scraped up teflon pans in the kitchen (likely because management provided a metal spatula), but luckily we found 2 that still worked. Can opener barely worked, and there were 20+ ants per day despite us keeping everything in the fridge and keeping the counters clean. The beds were also very firm. Biggest 3 changes I would encourage management to make are 1)vinegar cleaning spray available to guests to minimize ants 2)go through cookware and remove unusable/incompatible items 3) buy a mattress topper for at least one of the beds. Would recommend to anyone with scoliosis or who doesn't want to cook in the meantime.
1 more tip unrelated to the place! Make sure you drive a bit (10 mins) for gas, otherwise you'll pay way too much

Traveled back for a funeral. Beautiful house. Everything was as described. Would definitely stay there again

Very clean and well thought out floor plan. Back deck with a hot tub was private, relaxing and is the sort of place you want to sit out and enjoy the expansive views! Beautiful!

The view was amazing and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything that anyone who loves to cook would need. There was plenty of room and the house was quite comfortable.

Every year we vacation in the Mendocino area, and on this trip we enjoyed our stay here for seven nights. It is a nice home in a great location, and it includes most all necessary amenities. We had a good time here. That said, I would like to make a few recommendations (not wholehearted complaints); First, there is a chair problem. The images on this listing show a number of chairs on each deck. However, on our visit, with three independent decks to enjoy the ocean view, there are now a total of only two outdoor chairs. So you cannot sit out on the top two decks, and the bottom deck does not accommodate more than two people sitting in a proper chair. With beautiful, clear weather all week, that was a problem. (It could use an umbrella or two for when the sun is beating down in the west, but not a deal breaker.) Also, one of the dining table chair arms is broken, which wasn't a big problem, but we had to be careful not to break it further. And there were only five dining chairs, which worked for us, though the home is advertised for six. With the chair situation, plus the very tight parking and the very tight living room (with far too bulky furniture), we think this home is ideally suited for four people, but with some changes could work for six. I will also note that the WiFi did not work at all (but it honestly was pleasant to be unconnected for a week). I sound like a complainer, but we had a good time in this home.

Only negative to report is the house smelled a bit musty. The house is beautiful, and the proximity to Russian gulch State Park, and other view points/parks is great. 10 min north of Mendocino, 10mins south of fort bragg. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay. The house is comfortable and well- equipped. The interior was spotless when we arrived. We were invited to check in early which was a nice bonus. Check in and check out were super easy. Another plus for us was the outdoor outlet where we could plug in our car (not a charger unit - just a plug - we travel with a charger). The management company didn't seem to know that it was there, so it was another nice surprise when we arrived. Eating out on the deck overlooking the ocean was wonderful. Great stay overall - we hope to return!

Beautifully situated with scenic Pacific views.

The home was everything we wanted and more than we expected! Clean, inviting and comfortable with a beautiful view. It had a friendly fox that we saw often. Even though we didn’t use the hot tub ( forgot our suits) it was clean and warm when I checked it out. We didn’t see any whales but we heard them early in the morning, it was too foggy to see them.
We will definitely be back !

This home is wonderfully situated between the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg. It is a short walk to Russian Gulch State Park and the beautiful Point Carrillo Lighthouse park.
The home is perfect for younger, able-footed individuals… we traveled with three people in their 80’s, and found some issues. The staircase to the second floor bedrooms is very steep with narrow, thin steps, and the water can get VERY hot - with some valves that were difficult to figure out.
That being said, the home was large, comfortable and affordable. The kitchen was very well stocked and the beds were comfortable. While not directly on the oceanfront, each bedroom and the dining area offered lovely, expansive views of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean.

Quiet. Relaxing atmosphere. Great ocean view.

The property touts ocean view and hot tub, which are true. That’s about where the amenities end. This listing needs a lot of updates to charge what they charge. The hot tub had literal scum floating in it, hasn’t been cleaned in quite awhile by the looks of it. I couldn’t even get in there I was so grossed out. Interior of house is very dated with both bathrooms smelling of old urine and mildew. Very few towels. We booked 6 guests but there were only 4 towels. The couch smelled like old dog. Living room and dining table only accommodate 4. The stairs are crazy steep and narrow, not kid or elderly friendly. Bathroom would not accommodate a wheelchair user. Ants all over the place, although typical of Mendo county. The driveway is very steep, so we had to unload at the top of hill and carry our stuff down so we didn’t bottom out.
I’ve rented several places in the area, this is my first with this vendor. Definitely going back to other vendors. Bummed, but lesson learned.

The house was infested with ants. Upstairs, downstairs, in the carpet, in our beds and the kitchen was a hot mess. It rained and the rain came in the house through the windows. Some of the windows were fogged over. We lost power and the flash lights were all dead. The toilet leaked on the floor

Wonderful cozy quiet stay, amazing views from every room, clean, comfortable, well-chlorinated hot tub with views. Was on crutches so appreciate that everything on first floor was accessible. Great location to visit light house and Russian Gulch.
Downside Checkout at 10am with a family was a rush.

The house was great and had stunning views. The kitchen had everything we needed and was well stocked. The only downside to the place is the steep driveway and not being able to park flat in the cul-de-sac. It rained most of the time that we were there, and trying to back out of the very steep driveway on wet ground was very very difficult. I don't think we would ever rent this place again because of the parking situation. I think if you have a newer car or SUV, then it might be doable (our car is a 2015 Prius).

We had a Whale of a time! The deTails Beluga us away and we could not have Orca-strated a better weekend. The view from the hot tub was Greyt: no fences Narwhals blocked the view of the ocean. We wish this was our Spermanent home and we felt Blue leaving. We are leaving Whale-rested and are hoping to Humpback soon.
Seriously, this house is great — charming, clean, well-equipped, and absolutely covered in whale imagery, which we loved, as you can maybe tell. The surroundings are gorgeous and you could even walk to Russian Gulch State Park, which has a fabulous 5-mile hike called Falls Loop Trail. Sitting in the hot tub as the sun set over the ocean and the stars came out was totally magical. We were 5 adults here for a Friendsgiving weekend and couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

1. Upon arrival the access code was incorrect (it worked for garage access but this provided no access to the residence).
2. There was no information in any communication informing us of the lock box code (key access). 3. The web access was listed as WhaleSong with a similar password, unfortunately no ISP popped-up with that name so no access -I bring this up right away as we could have made that connection to make a phone call (via wifi calling) support but we had to get back in the car and drive back out to the main road before we had cell signal ( we use Tmobile and AT&T for what it's worth). 4. We did gain access to the house after receiving the key lockbox code. 5. Upon getting settled we wanted to access the hot tub however it was lock with a combination lock - again no code available on paper work in the house or communication so we had to make another phone call to get it. 6. After hot tub we wanted to unwind to watch tv and found that the cable box was missing so zero channels available - had to call again, were told that a box was installed that day but it literally wasn't.
- no tv
7. While dealing with the tv we noted the sofa and recliner were stained and grimy leaving us to question if they were clean
- we used towels on the sofa and chair which really didn't allow us to relax, we spent a lot of time sitting on the hard dinning room chairs. 8. The ants on the counter tops in the kitchen could have certainly been worse but we caught site of them soon enough to move ALL our food items into the refrigerator. 9. I bought two amazing steaks ($67.00) to bbq but unfortunately the bbq would only heat to 250 degrees. This is with all 4 burners activated and set on high. I own 2 grills and BBq regularly and found that one propane tank was half full and the other was completely full. I decided to switch tanks to see if there may have been a restriction at the tank valve causing the reduction in heat however no solution was found. After 25 minutes of letting the grill heat, 250f was the max temp . 10. Had to grill the steak in a skillet indoors with an exhaust fan that simply exhausts back into the house, not such a big deal but what really turned us off were the amount of bugs stuck to the light bulb and the underside of the vent. I don't believe any grease had ever been cleaned from under the stove exhaust judging by the amount of insects stuck to it.
Will never, ever book another Vacasa Property .

Beautiful home in a gorgeous peaceful setting. We enjoyed the quiet of nature and the wonderful views.

We had a great stay at Whale Sound - which included seeing at least 7 whales one day in September. This is a great property for a group with a very large kitchen. We had one request while we were there and the management went above and beyond to make it happen. We would definitely stay again in the future.

Wonderful house in an ideal location.
We loved hearing the seals barking to each other from our deck

We were unable to watch television in the late evening due to lack of internet. We also were never able to get the air conditioner programmed to come on.

The property check in process was easy. Upon arrival, at first glance it seems clean and in order. We found out that the hot tub was not unsatisfactorily sanitized to be used. The outdoor shower was not working. The problem was reported to the Vacasa property management. They agreed to sent someone
the next day to clean it. The property was advertised to have cable TV and there was no cable connected. The DVD player was thrown inside the cabinet and the electrical cord was broken off. We reported the problem and upon returning after a long day spent outdoors, we found a new DVD player hooked up, still no cable though . We were excited to use the hot tub and upon opening the lid to find out that the job was not properly cleaned. There still was a ring of dirt on the tub, which my friend took some paper towels to clean off and the dirt grossly came off. As I looked further to inspect the the opposite of the tub--there was a thick black moldy ring as if this tub had never been cleaned. The problem then was reported it again the property manager sent me a photo indicating it was clean and the photo indicated the tub was running with foam so you can't really see the ring of dirt. We decided not to use it at all, not even to soak our feet. We were hoping to sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery and the chairs had blood stains on them and we looked further, there were blood stains on the glass window as well. Today, when we were taking the sheets down and found dried pee stains on the topper of twin bed. It said the garage could be used to park a car however the pile of wood taken up all the space in the middle of the garage even a small sport Lexus UX could not fit in there.
Overall, the place it very quaint has all the amenities, but definitely very old and not upkeep well. Cleanliness does not pass the state inspection in my opinions and we are all healthcare workers which made our experience very unpleasant. They compensated $88 for dirty hot tub and in my opinion, they should have comp us one day free for the conditions of the property.

Property as described. View much better than described. Internet better than described. All small issues were handled very quickly with Vacasa. Property didn't have a guest stay book so it took a minute to learn ammenities, what to do with trash and helpful check out procedures. So we ran a load of towels and dishes and piled trash bags for housekeeping. Guessing that was right. Overall the home was peaceful, cozy, with lovely views of ocean and wildlife. We had a happy stay.. We hope to return.

Great location and even greater views. It would be good the get the glass panels cleaned up a bit and update the furnitures but lovely and comfortable house.
