About this house rental
Charming 2 story beach house. #STR21-1209
This precious gem of a beach cottage offers an outstanding experience in a stand-alone home! That’s right! At the Blue Beach Bungalow, no one is thumping around above you and there's no one to worry about below you. The entire house and property will be your dream home-away-from-home the entire time you are here! Privacy and peace will ease and please you and yours.
Built in 1947, the house was upgraded in the 1960's to accommodate 8 people with an upstairs Master bedroom. Enjoy stunning views up a short stairway to Bedroom #1. There is a large picture window perfect for watching sailboats and sunsets from your comfy, king-size bed. The fresh ocean breeze gently flows through back and side windows. This room boasts a long walk-in closet (large enough for a pack 'n play), shelves full of books and a new 43” flat screen TV with cable & Roku compatibility. Just down the stairs is the Bathroom #1, with a pedestal sink and a bathtub.
The lower level features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open-concept living room/kitchen area with direct beach access to your own private patio from both the living room and the front bedroom. Bedroom #2 is beach front. It includes a master bed a 43“ flat screen TV with cable & Roku compatibility, a panel closet and a sliding glass door leads right to the beach-front patio. The middle Bedroom #3 has two bunk beds (can sleep up to four) is perfect for youngsters. It has a small 24" flat screen TV with Roku compatibility and a DVD player. It also has a small step in closet and easy access to Bathroom #2 down the hall, which includes a shower.
The entire residence can accommodate up to 8 people. Very comfy open layout. The beach directly in front of the house is your own private beach, not shared with anyone else. A moveable fire pit on the sand allows for cozy evenings. The beach front patio is slightly enclosed from the beach. It's fully furnished, with a BBQ, two patio tables with 14 chairs and umbrellas. Enjoy breathtaking views while entertaining with family and friends. The smaller, street side, secluded back patio has a lime tree where, when in season, you can use to garnish your cocktails; great for having coffee in the morning.
The exclusive gated community of Beach Road provides privacy and seclusion not commonly associated with beach-front property. Beach Road in Dana Point, California has the distinct advantage of sitting directly on the beach with the famous Pacific Coast Highway and breathtaking Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train that runs behind the house. Trains usually go by a few times a night and throughout the day. Guests typically say they hardly ever notice it.
Other amenities include:
Soft sand off the patio (many Beach Rod houses don't have this)
Sand Volleyball Court *depending on sand conditions- high tides washed away part of the post in October 2017 - we are waiting for natural sand replenishment this winter
3 parking spots directly behind plus an enclosed, locking garage
Full-size washer and dryer
Gas Fireplace
USB chargers in all bedrooms
Working fishing poles and tackle
Two 7 speed adult beach cruisers bicycles
Two children's bicycles
4 person bicycle surrey
Boogie boards
Children's sand toys
Pack 'n Play
WiFi compatibly
California State Parks Pass (allows access to San Ononfre and Doheny State Beaches) - must be left in the house upon departure
Easy Access to the Freeway
Relax, surf, SUP, play golf, ride bicycles or run along the coastal bike path that runs parallel to Coast Highway in the back of the house; North towards Dana Point and Laguna Beach or south to San Clemente... all the way the San Diego County Line. Walk the beach, gaze at brilliant starlit skies, or just sit on the patio. Watch the pelicans and sea birds soar just above the water line while dolphins and an occasional sea lion swim off shore. It will be hard not to feel the lost romance of the Southern California Riviera sipping a cocktail on your private beach while watching the sunset over the ocean and listening to the pounding of the waves. No shirts, not shoes, no problem!
Enjoy all the great restaurants in Dana Point and San Clemente. Privacy and seclusion. Security of a gate-guarded community Beach front right on the sand with unparalleled views of Catalina Island from the San Clemente Pier to the Dana Point Headlands. 30 minutes from Orange County Airport, 1 hour from either LAX or San Diego airport.

Beach equipment and bike rentals are located nearby in both San Clemente and Dana Point. Dana Point is home to Doheny State Beach and the harbor offers kayak and boat rentals, fishing and whale watching excursions, dining, shopping, sightseeing, as well as Catalina Island cruises. We apologize but we do not accept pets.
The Blue Beach Cottage is located in a quiet beachfront residential community. If you are looking for a quiet retreat to enjoy with family or friends this would be the perfect vacation getaway; great for young children. The beach directly in front of the house is yours!
*The Capistrano Beach is subject to smooth river rocks, which flow down from San Juan Creek. They move up and down the beach with the tides. Occasionally, they move right in front of our beach, but they usually wash away the within a few days. In the past few months, storm surge has washed a great deal of sand from our beach. Thankfully, we have installed a barrier wall to keep sand up near out patio. From there, it is possible to access down a set of stairs to get down to the shore. It's been rocky as of late, so low tide is always best for water play. It's a product of mother nature! We really don't have much say on what the ocean does to our beach.
The entire property is non-smoking. We ask guests who smoke to please do so away from the house.

We had an amazing stay in this beachfront cottage! The owners were responsive and communicative at all times for questions. They graciously allowed us to stage a small elopement ceremony on the beach directly in the sand in front of the property. With a photographer and officiant, we were 7 people total. It was perfect! The cottage is cute, clean and comfortable. It is an older property on the ocean, so it has vintage vibes and “character” as well as modern amenities. They provide anything you could possibly need! Instructions were clear. Loved the quiet and safe community. Thank you to Nancy and Dave for being wonderful to work with. We want to return for all our wedding anniversaries! I wish I could post photos of our amazing ceremony and beach photo shoot here, we have had so many friends and family asking how we scored such an awesome location!!

I booked this for 1 week in July as part of my 80th birthday celebration with family, cost of $7000. It was a very bad experience. Brief summary: very rundown overall; torn living room cushions; food remnants behind furniture and under cushions; mold in bathroom showers; dust and dirt throughout; rickety bunk bed for child; kitchen toaster worked only one side, many other problems.

The property was perfect and we had a wonderful time. Booking was easy, everything we needed was provided and we loved being so close to the ocean. We would definitely book with Nancy & Dave again.

We had the best relaxing time! The house was great for our family of 8. It is a little dated inside but we spent so much time enjoying the beach. The owner Nancy lives next door she was very sweet and helpful. The dishwasher was broken when we got there and she had it replaced with a new one the next day. The house is very well stocked with everything you’d need. Plenty of kitchen things and tons of towels, beach towels and beach toys. The garage is full of bikes and being a gated community there is very little traffic so it’s very safe for riding. There is a train track that runs behind the home, you can hear it but it’s not bothersome at all. All of the sand in the yard was replaced while we were there and it’s very soft to walk on and play in. If we’re ever in the area again we would definitely consider staying here. Thanks for the great time!

Had a great stay for our daughter’s 16th. Perfect amount of space for 5 kids and 2 adults. Would book again!
Communication was perfect. Sand toys, fire pit, bikes, sand and sun….couldn't have asked for anything better

This gem offered an amazing stay for my family. Its has all everything you need to a beach vacation or a getaway. The weather wasnt great to go into the water, but overall had an amazing time. The beach and the sand in the back is a little rocky and great for kiddos to "dig" and build sand castles.

The house offers great views and sounds of the Pacific Ocean. It is clean, has plenty of amenities and the property manager was responsive when we needed her. We were there in October when the tides were up, so couldn’t walk on the beach from the house. Also, my daughter could hear the train rush by in the evening from her room, but otherwise it was a perfect beach vacation for the two of us!

This is a wonderful place to stay. It was quiet and the security steps made me feel very safe. My hosts were very accommodating to all my needs. They have equipment for every thing you could imagine doing. I would recommend this location for people of all ages. You can find something to do and rest easy at night while listening to the waves. Thank you Nancy for allowing me to visit you wonderful house.

We loved our stay! We knew when we booked the home that it was an older home, so that was no surprise to us. But even though it’s an older home it was comfortable, clean and was just the right amount of space for our family. Our intention was to be able to enjoy the ocean views, spending most of our time outside, so quite honestly, the home being older and slightly outdated did not bother any of us at all! Me, my husband and our 2 year old slept in the upstairs bedroom and it was plenty of space & even had space to spare. The upstairs bedroom has a view of the ocean from the bed, and it also overlooks the front courtyard and the road (Beach Rd). We definitely heard the train (and it does literally shake the room) but that also didn’t bother us! Our 2 year old thought it was awesome being able to see & hear the “choo-choo trains”!
We stayed for 3 nights & cooked most meals there. The home had all items needed in order to cook/grill. Unfortunately, we ran out of propane in the middle of grilling, and there was not an extra one in the garage, as we were told, but we were able to finish cooking the chicken in the oven and it was a non-issue. We did let the owner know via private message that the propane ran out, and that there was not an extra tank, so I am sure that won’t be an issue for the next group of visitors!
If you are looking for a cute little beach house in a safe, quiet gated community, then look no further!! Our family had an amazing time & plan on returning!

Thank you for our host for providing a wonderful experience. The beach house was the perfect size for our group of adults staying the weekend. The beach house comes fully equipped with everything needed for a great stay! It came clean, comfortable and accommodating. Our favorite area was the outdoor patio and beachfront access to our own private beach! We enjoyed the bonfire area, patio tables/chairs and the fishing we were able to enjoy right from the house. The community where the house was located was clean, safe and allowed for enough parking for our family members. The town of Dana Point and San Clemente were great areas to visit. We will definitely be back in the future.

Felt right at home, if home had its own beach! Plenty of beds for the kids. Grill worked, fire pit was great for roasting marshmallows. Ate outside and ate inside. The bedrooms were very comfortable, slept the first night with the sliding door slightly open to hear the ocean! Owners were friendly and helpful. New dish soap and sponge were left for us, and the place was very clean. Great place to stay!

spent a few days here with our kids. beautiful view, access to the beach was good other than a little bit of drop to get down to the water but not that big of a deal. kids enjoyed some of the bikes available to ride. Had a little trouble with internet but owner responded quickly. Overall no complaints and would be happy to return!

Everything worked out great! Will be going again next year.! The experience was smooth. The owner lived next door and we left a silver trinket and she found it and packaged it and sent it back to us. What great service and degree of caring.! Do not hesitate to go to this place!

Just the sounds of the waves was worth it, waking up to the waves and ocean view. Cottage steps from sand and water. Wonderful weekend.

One of the owners lives next door. The community is private, which is nice, but you have to ask permission from the owner to have any guests over or any visitors at all. This means the owner knows everyone you have over. In my case we rented the house to stay in during the week of my daughter’s wedding. We had lots of family and friends in the area and it was a complete hassle/disaster to have anyone over. On the day my daughter and the bridesmaids were getting ready for the wedding, hair and makeup and stuff. The owners son, (middle aged man) he had full knowledge of what was taking place at the house that day, cause you need permission for all visitors, came to the house unannounced, proceeded to move about the back patio area shirtless! While my daughter and the bridesmaids are trying to have a relaxed day and get ready for the wedding. And a strange shirtless man is looking in the back sliding glass doors! When confronted of why he was there he said he was fixing something. This was not correct and absolutely unnecessary. It absolutely creeped my daughter, her bridesmaids and the hair and makeup persons out. I was very concerned at that point. We woke up one morning to see toys and other items on the sand area right in front of the patio. As we have no young children and the house next door was unoccupied and there are strict rules about only using the area in front of the house you are staying in, we can only guess that it was again the owners family that were at the house when we were not there. The house sits above the beach and the beach is not very accessible. The furniture is absolutely used. My husband had to fix the table in several areas as nails would rip clothes and skin. Some of the lights did not work and the kitchen is stocked with very used items as well. Wish I had know these things before renting, so I decided to post this account.

We loved our stay at this lovely home. It is right on the beach and gorgeous. The home is stocked with anything you could possibly need! Wetsuits, fishing poles, toys, games, kitchen supplies, tons of towels and linens. We didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be back.

We all thought this was a beautiful, older property (which added to the charm) and everything worked great. It is on the beach and all the beach toys, bikes and amenities worked very well. Easy check in/out and we loved our stay. We appreciated Nancy and Davids help on our wonderful vacation...

This property was perfect for us! It was very private with all the fun toys for the kids to play in the Ocean or biking along the beach. David and Nancy were wonderful hosts. We definitely want to come back again soon. I highly recommend renting this beach home.

We loved our time at this beach cottage. It was clean and provided a welcome retreat after long days at the horse show in SJC. We will be back for sure next year! Nancy and David were great to work with and I can't recommend it enough!

The Beach Cottage is a fantastic launchpad for a family to enjoy the area of Beach Road. A garage full of bikes, games, and movies. A 2-bunk room and a protected dry sand area right off the patio. Getting to the beach is done by a set of stairs made from bagged rocks. Wear shoes. This is typical for any Beach Road property and frankly better than I’ve seen before. Very responsive hosts. Great time and hope to return as we only scratched the surface of everything the property had to offer.

We are so thrilled with our stay at Nancy's beautiful beachside home. We live in Maryland and only get to California every couple of years. Our kids 8 and 10 loved being able to walk outside and play in the sand. The first morning we saw dolphins swimming in the distance. The house was convenient to grocery store as well as restaurants. The kids had surf lessons just up the road at Doheny Beach. The rooms were spacious and the kitchen had everything you could want to make meals. The board games were great and we enjoyed our stay and will definitely book next time we are in California.

We have always wanted to stay in a house right on the beach and this was that! A fabulous location indeed. We explored several nearby seaside communities including Dana Point, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and Laguna on our way home. We enjoyed daily walks in the afternoon when the tide allowed as well as morning coffee and evening sunsets on the lounge chairs soaking in the waves.
This house was extremely clean. The pictures are very accurate. What you see is what you get.. We appreciated the gated community and friendly guards. We felt very safe here. The owners were lovely and extremely responsive which is always a plus. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . Thank you Nancy and David!

We so enjoyed our long Memorial Day weekend in this lovely home! There was plenty of space for our family of eight - six adults and two children.
The sand and beach areas were perfect for our two grandsons. They played out there all day! And the surrey bicycle - what a hit!
The magnificent sunsets were a wonderful accompaniment to our s’mores.
Thank you for all the special touches to help us make the best memories!
