Ravenscroft is currently undergoing an interior renovation, with completion anticipated by December 15th. A harmony of mahogany tones, travertine textures, and meticulously curated pieces will refresh the space with a modern edge while preserving its timeless allure.
Carefully preserving the architectural brilliance of renowned architect George Washington Smith, Ravenscroft has undergone meticulous restoration and reconstruction, marrying the allure of the past with the demands of modern living. Set on two private acres, the home provides a verdant oasis that offers unparalleled seclusion and serenity. Located in the heart of Montecito and adjacent to Lotusland, you'll be a short drive from the beach and minutes away from Coast Village Road, and a 10 minute walk to Hot Springs Canyon Trailhead.
Step into the dreamy world of Ravenscroft, where its 10,000 square foot interior is bathed in natural light. The 52-foot garden room is draped with vines that have woven across its beams and ceiling since the 1920s. With its enchanting, fairy-tale atmosphere, this space is perfect for intimate, candle-lit dinners. Hand-crafted iron and glass doors, created on-site during Ravenscroft's construction, frame views of the lush exterior, which flow seamlessly into the room. The l’Orangery is Peggy's tribute to Santa Barbara, celebrating her first commercial orchid sales in the area. It provides a magical setting, complemented by a nearby Japanese tea house adorned with authentic GWS tiles.
Guests can take a moonlit dip in the spa, delight in fireside cocktails & alfresco dining, play a match of Bocce or Tennis, and unwind on sun-drenched chaise lounges by the pool. Experience an unforgettable movie night in the Theatre Room where you can sink into plush velvet seats with popcorn in hand. For late-night excitement, gather in the Billiards Room for a game of pool. In the office, a hidden door cleverly within the bookshelves reveals a secret passage leading to the wine cellar. A fireplace and sumptuous leather seating in the tasting room offers an intimate and cozy atmosphere for tastings.
In the 1920s, actress Peggy Ravenscroft channeled her theatrical background into the design of the exquisite 52-foot-long living room. Drawing inspiration from her time on stage, she commissioned architect George Washington Smith to capture the essence of a celebrated London stage production of the era. Smith, acclaimed for his classic Santa Barbara architecture, completed Ravenscroft in 1922. Considered an architectural marvel, the home continues to embody a flair for drama, elegance, and the grandeur of a bygone era. The storied living room embraces two large sofas and ample seating for large gatherings. The over-sized and roaring fireplace compliments the opulence of the space, where Peggy used to bring her cherished saddle horse inside to warm by the flames.
One of the most captivating spaces in Ravenscroft is the kitchen, adorned with original GWS white tiles that stretch from floor to ceiling. The kitchen marries timeless elegance with modern comforts, offering a formal dining room, a cozy dining area with a fireplace, and doors that open to enchanting interior courtyards. It is thoughtfully appointed with an original butler’s pantry and custom “White House Stamped” cabinets from the 1920s, alongside state-of-the-art appliances such as a La Cornue stove, Sub-Zero refrigerator, and dual dishwashers.. Adding to its allure is a breakfast nook with a fireplace, and glass doors which lead to an exterior courtyard. There, a picturesque mosaic fountain, cozy lounge furnishings, and a grill await.
Each bedroom in the villa is designed to provide a tranquil and luxurious retreat, ensuring a restful night's sleep for every guest. The master suite boasts a king-size bed, TV, 2 full bathrooms and 2 walk in closets. The primary bathroom is highlighted by a beautiful, walk-in marble shower with a waterfall-head, heated floors and a soaking tub in an adjacent dressing room, featuring a cozy fireplace. The iron-wrought windows imbue the suite with natural light and views of the gardens and pool. Nestled in one of the walk-in closets, is a hidden door in the shoe shelf, leading you into an enchanting look-out tower above.
The 800 square feet guest house provides a spacious living room with a 50” Smart TV, queen pull-out couch, 1 king bedroom, 2 full bathrooms and the original fully-equipped, charming kitchen. The space is highlighted by an expansive ceiling with original architectural beams exposed, coupled with wide wood plank floors. The kitchen and bathrooms beautifully display original GWS tiles from floor to ceiling as well as original fixtures, doors and hardware.
Jack's Cottage features a queen bedroom, a full bathroom, and a sauna, with exquisite GWS tiles and design details that complement those in Casa Del Herrera. Meanwhile, the charming 'Abigail Cottage,' a lovingly restored 1 BR/1 BA guest house, is nestled amidst a fruit orchard, lush lawns, and a quaint hen house.

Magical Estate
Ravenscroft Historic Estate is a perfect step back to the magical, glory days of Montecito. It is has been painstakingly restored to shine in all its romantic glory. Every area of the estate offers an experience for everyone who stays there. My grandchildren enjoyed the tennis and swimming while my husband (who is a landscaper) found total joy in the beautiful grounds. The kitchen is a wonderful place to connect with family while cooking in a perfectly appointed kitchen with a cozy fireplace. The grand living room is the epitome of entertaining and singing out tunes to the piano. Todd is an amazing host who offers all the help you could ask for. His passion for the home is contagious. I would highly recommend Ravenscroft if you are looking for a first class, five star experience.

Amazing & Wonderful Estate to rent for family vacation
My family (15 adults & teens) just enjoyed a perfect family vacation at Ravenscroft. It is a spectacular and unique property. The owners have lovingly restored the home to it's original grandeur and it was a special treat to be able to call this estate home for a week.
The grounds are stunning. The pool, jacuzzi and tennis court were so well maintained. There's a chicken coop on the property and we were able to get fresh eggs for breakfast. Upon our arrival, the kitchen was stocked with everything we'd requested and a full dinner was left for us so we didn't have to cook or shop on that first night. On a different night, we hired the private chef recommended to us and she was outstanding.
There is air conditioning in the master suite and fans provided in the other rooms although the gorgeous Montecito weather doesn't often require their use. Aside from the Maine House bedrooms, there is a one-bedroom guest suite that is beautifully decorated and has an extremely comfortable king bed as well as a pull-out sofa in the living room. There is a 9 seat movie theater with exceptionally comfortable reclining chairs. There is an outdoor ping pong patio, indoor billiard room and gym, outdoor fireplaces in several locations... honestly, this property is virtually perfection.
The only thing I'd change is the WiFi signal. It's available in a few spots in the house, but not across the entire property. That said, it was rather nice putting the phone/iPad down for the better part of every day.
There are so many places to relax and have fun on the property that it was hard to venture beyond the beautiful wrought iron gates. However, there are many great restaurant choices right in Montecito.
This is a special place and the owners are beyond accommodating. I could not recommend it more highly.

Splendid for the whole family!
We had a fantastic famiy reunion celebrating our dad's 80th birthday. We ranged in age from 7 years old to 80 and there was something for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful gardens and the gorgeous estate. There is no need to leave the Ravenscroft Estate because there is so much to do. My neice enjoyed finding fresh eggs every morning in the chicken coop, we all loved swimming in the pool, relaxing in the jacuzzi and playing family tennis. The lawn was perfect for bocce ball. We watched family movies in the theater, played ping pong, rode bikes and went hiking. There are so many lovely gardens to choose from to just sit and read a book or listen to the birds chirping. The kitchen was well equiped with gorgeous appliances which made it a joy to cook family meals. It was truly hard to leave and we all hope to be able to return soon.

This is the finest house we have ever rented or had access to.
The owner is beyond gracious and helpful.
The grounds are spectacular.
There are so many priceless trees here you are just in amazement .
The house is a historic trove yet comfortable and decorated perfectly.
My wife and I are already planning when we can come back and if we can lengthen our next stay.
Frankly experiences like this are never forgotten.
All information on this house is highly accurate.
The truth is the amazing pictures hardly give you the full beauty of staying here.

A magical setting for memories
Ravenscroft is appointed with such thoughtful detail. Photos do not do it justice. Melanie and Todd clearly have thought of all the comforts and luxuries to allow for relaxation, fun and creating memories. The kitchen is enviable. And there are so many picturesque places to relax and have a meal or just a glass of wine. From the sitting area near the outdoor fireplace to the indescribable room with vines on the ceilings. With a tennis court, pool and gorgeous gardens, you never have to leave Ravenscroft for a perfect holiday. It is really a magical place.

Ravenscroft Estate
Our family spent Labor Day weekend at the Ravenscroft Estate and it was the most pleasant family trips we've experienced. The estate is filled with history and the amenities gave us plenty to do and enjoy.

Fabulous Experience!
We had a fabulous week away at Ravenscroft over Easter. We were 2 families from Los Angeles with young children.
Todd and Melanie were fabulous to work with during the booking and organization phase. When we arrived on Easter Sunday afternoon, they had stocked the fridge and cupboards with the groceries we requested and also left a lovely spread of wine, cheese and cake for us.
The photos on the website of course look fabulous but almost don't do this amazing and historic property justice. It is in one of the most prime Montecito locations - right next to Lotus Land (which is also a must see!).
We had 2 nannys with us during the week who had great accommodations in the 2 bedroom plus living area guest cottage. The grounds are absolutely amazing and a real highlight were the fireside dinners and smores we cooked over the wood burning outdoor fireplace.
A great experience and thanks to Todd and Melanie for being great to work with.

The Qunitessential Montecito Experience....Feels like the Santa Barbara Biltmore
With great care, the owners have meticulously restored this beautiful 1922 G.W. Smith property, carefully maintaining the original integrity, and it feels as if you've stepped back in time. The house and grounds have a luxurious vintage feel and yet, despite the "old world grandeur", it is extremely warm and comfortable. Whether exploring the property or sitting by one of the many fireplaces, our family from young to old (4-88) loved our stay, and I would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative.

Spectacular & Luxurious Rental
Exceeded all our expectations! Perfect for a reunion or special occasion. Convenient location to hiking and biking. Had every amenity, and many special touches. Owners were thoughtful and responsive to every request. We all felt very priviledged to stay at this historic estate.

A magical piece of history
Three generations of our family stayed in this magnificent residence in July, and it was one of our most memorable vacations yet. The property is truly magical, just as Melanie described it, with spectacular gardens and a home that has been restored to its original grandeur in all the right ways. Melanie & Todd's pride of ownership and attention to detail is apparent everywhere you look. Particular focus has been given to maintaining the original integrity of the home, while still making it functional and beautifully updated where needed. The outdoor fireplace was our favorite gathering spot each evening, but there were also many other wonderful places to sit and enjoy the ambiance of our surroundings. We appreciated the special touches upon our arrival as well - fresh flowers in every room, the beer and soda in the refrigerator, and the wine and cheese platter. All reminders that we were about to experience a memorable week, and we certainly did. Oh, and the fresh eggs each morning from the delightful chickens were an added bonus! Just can't say enough about this exquisite property. We hope to return again one day soon.

Pleasantly Happy
We come to Santa Barbara every year to enjoy southern california and have previewed most of the properties available. There is no other property like this one - period! The pictures do not do it justice. The history of the property permeates throughout, the architecture and gardens deserve the published acclaim that it has earned. This is not just another big california house, this is a truly special and very rare piece of art. We were in awe upon arrival, from the magical gates, to expansive lawns and sitting areas. And the inside of the home is sprinkled with exquisite art and antique furnishings that add to its magic. At night time we sat outside next to the fireplace and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. During the sunny days we loved the pool and tennis court with this unbelievable garden room that opens up to them all. For dinners there are too many locations to describe and to select from, but all of them were priceless memories. This is not just another large commercial property - this house has spirit. Read its history. We highly recommend it to any one and given its price, for what the property offers - it is a bargain compared to properties we have stayed in world wide and inparticular in Santa Barbara. We will be returning as long is it is available.

Exceeded our Families Expectattions
Just wanted to say that Ravenscroft was as nice as Melanie said it would be. It exceeded all of our family's expectations. We all had a very nice reunion, and yes, we went to the beach and to the vineyards, but mostly we enjoyed the house and the grounds - the pool, the spa, the tennis court, the fire place, and all the very nice places to sit and talk.
In addition, we were all impressed with the nice touches that were left for us - the fresh flowers in various rooms, the kitchen with "supplies" like the beer and soda, spices, etc, tennis balls, and probably many other things that don't come to mind right now. Even the chickens added a little extra that we were not expecting.
What impressed me the most was the way the home combined the new with the old. It all fit together very very nicely.
