We had stayed here in the past and had a wonderful time. It appears that the place has been neglected a quite bit. The cleaners, did not clean at all. It appears as though, that all they did was make up
Beds. Glass all over the maine house deck, mold and mildew unbearable at the courthouse and all the kitchen cabinets at the lake house has mice droppings in them. We had to vacuum every rug, wash every floor and disinfect everything on arrival day. We were very dissapointed this time around. 6 out of the 14 people that were there, 4 from the court house and 2 from the lake house went home sick with full blown asthma attacks and sinus issues. We as a group ALWAYS vaccuum every room, wash every floor, clean every sink, clean out every refrigerator, before we leave a vacation home. Just very dissapointed. The owners are good people, professional and easy to communicate with.
beds.

The cabins and location are excellent. We loved the waterfront area, and the water is crystal clear. The fishing was good. We would definitely rent it again.

Kevin was great to communicate with. His property on the lake with three houses worked for our family gathering of 18 adults and 3 dogs. We so enjoyed using the tennis and basketball court, along with the paddle boards , kayaks and canoes,

We're a 3-generation family (including 7 children under 7) which has gathered at 3 Sisters for 3 years now. The complex works beautifully for a multi-family group since there are separate homes, separate spaces, multiple activity options. We rent a pontoon boat which opens up lake activities. We set up lawn games and the court is great for scooters and chalk art. Kevin is tremendous with communication. We had trouble with the wifi when we first got there and he responded immediately and reset the system for us.
The only tiny blip this year is that the cleaning staff was a little churlish when the first 2 of us arrived at 3:15 instead of 4. The other 14 arrived later, but it's hard to time traffic exactly. We were told that we couldn't enter the Maine house until the stroke of 4 even though it was already ready. It seemed a bit silly to be sitting outside a clean house for 45 minutes. That said, I'd say the homes were cleaner than they ever have been before.
Highly recommend 3 Sisters!

The accommodations, privacy, Lake, and location were perfect. The kids had a ball in the lake, in the boats, on the float, and fishing. There was everything we needed to entertain and feed our big family. And town and stores are close by. All the kids and adults had a wonderful and memorable time. Great family memories were made.

This was our second year at 3 Sisters and it was even better than the first. The place truly is special for a large, diverse group. Plenty of space to spread out and plenty of activities to keep everyone happy. We rented a pontoon boat for tubing/wake boarding and that really allowed us to maximize the great location on the water. If anyone plans to rent a boat, it helps to know that you should bring two long ropes to tie the boat to a nearby tree for support. The dock is not super sturdy, so reinforcement is necessary. A special thank you to the host(s) for providing two kayaks and a canoe for guests’ use. The kitchen is stocked with pretty much anything you can think of. It may take some time to find, but it’ll be there somewhere.
We’ll be back next year! :)

I gave 5 stars to “accuracy of listing”, but really the listing doesn’t do the compound justice. It’s even nicer in person. The Maine house is more spacious than appears in the pictures, which is a bonus with a large group such as we had. We’re an extended family of 9 adults and 6 young children, so having 3 houses to spread out the families was ideal. During our week, we experienced a summer nor’easter, which was a bummer - but it didn’t ruin the week because the compound is that special. We rented a pontoon boat for the week and the storm winds were so strong that the dock (which is not anchored) flipped and broke, setting the boat loose (a near disaster). Apparently this has never happened before and our host assures us that he’ll be looking into strengthening the dock in case a storm such as we experienced ever happens again.
The courthouse is truly charming. As the matriarch, I’m semi-tempted to claim that for my husband and me should we rent again - but I won’t because that would mess up the family spacing. But, it’s lovely and quiet. The lake house is also delightful. The location near the water made us all think it might be a converted boat house except that it’s so much sturdier and homier than any boat house I’ve ever been in.
Speaking of water, it was awesome to have the watercraft that’s available for use. We rented a pontoon boat for tubing, but there’s a canoe, paddle boat and 3 kayaks to use. This was a real bonus. We had thought the pebbly beach might be an issue, but it really wasn’t. The kids who didn’t like the feel of the rocks wore water shoes and everyone enjoyed the lake water, which we all agreed was the clearest lake we’d ever seen. And loons - so many loons! :)
One note: the listing info notes there’s a crib in the Maine house, but it’s no longer there. We had to do a Walmart run for a substitute. There’s a pack ‘n play still, but not a crib.
I only gave 4 stars for cleanliness because the guests before us had at least a couple dogs and there was quite a bit of dog hair still in the house and 9 piles of different-sized dog doo in the yard. My husband found a shovel in the shed and did a full yard sweep. I blame the renters for this, though, rather than the cleaners since they may not have seen the piles outside. But yuk. How can people not clean up after their dogs??
All in all, despite the bizarre summer nor’easter and two days of rain we loved it and hope to return!

We loved our time at the 3 sisters property. The views of the lake are stunning, and you truly feel like you're the only people around. There were a variety of amenities provided including paddle boat, paddle boards and several floats as well as multiple locations for outdoor fires. We are so grateful to have made so many memories as a family that we will cherish for years to come.

Family Reunion
We were fortunate to find the 3 sisters compound for our family reunion. It was simply outstanding! The 3 homes allowed our family to comfortably spread out. The deck, beach front, boats, raft, quiet lake with loons, ducks, eagles and geese were just fantastic. Many dinners together at the main house with lots of joy watching sunsets. We hope to return next year.

Perfect space for a big extended family week
This is a unique property. We had private space for our adult kids and their spouses/significant others in the smaller houses, good rooms for the older generation in the main house, and plenty of lawn and waterfront for everyone to have fun. We brought our own canoe, used the paddle boards and kayak already there and rented a pontoon boat for part of our week which we were able to moor there. The lake is beautifully clear and deep enough for good swimming. There was plenty of kitchen equipment, space for cooking and eating for our 14 adult group and the deck was superb. Dexter had everything we needed between Hannafords, Ace Hardware and good ol' Renys. We have stayed other places in southern Maine but nothing compared to this.

Family Weekend
Wonderful property for large family. Lake is crystal clear, great for swimming, boating, tubing with the kids. With 3 houses on one property, it allows for community as well as privacy at the same location. 2 firepits were great for bonfires at night and cooking smores with the kids. We boiled fresh Maine Lobsters on the outdoor stone hearth which were enjoyed by all. Great for large group. Hope to return next summer!!

Beautiful property
A fantastic property perfectly suited to a multi-family vacation. The location is absolutely beautiful, very private and right on the lake, but also with a nice expanse of lawn to spread out and relax on. The houses are nicely set up and decorated to match the lakeside vibe, and when small issues came up, the owner and caretaker were very responsive and quick to respond. A wonderful setting for much needed rest and relaxation!

The outdoor space at this rental is absolutely perfect. There are some updates that could be done on the inside spaces/maintenance that the owner and his son were very open to. Lovely owners.

2019 Family Reunion
What a wonderful place for a family or group of friends to spread out and enjoy this beautiful property on Lake Wassookeag! Couldn't have found a better place to enjoy the sunny days, beautiful water, amazing sunsets, bald eagle sightings and the sounds of loons in the evenings. The houses are all well appointed we enjoyed gathering at the Maine house for all our meals, hanging out in the shade or playing in the sun and lounging in the hammock! Our own little paradise. Three Sisters, thank you for sharing your very special spot!!

Beautiful location and homes on this property. We had a wonderful time on the lake ( rental of a pontoon boat was key!) We brought 3 kayaks and 2 SUP boards. Lots of fun playing Pickle Ball too. Suggestions for a 5 star rating: attention to the main house plumbing in down stair bathrooms and new dishwasher. Also, more Queen size beds for couples though that might not work due to the bunks...I wish we could’ve recycled all the trash we created ( plastic) but maybe Dexter doesn’t have recycling??Overall it was a wonderful week at the 3 Sisters! Thank you!

We loved it!! Gorgeous lake and Maine house. Fabulous sun set. We had some problems (broken toilet and oven that went out) that we’re quickly addressed. We hope the owners will take care of some areas that need updating that will make it possible for many more families to have a fantastic experience in the future.

Perfect spot for multi-generation family gathering
We could not have had a more perfect week at Three Sisters. The property is very well maintained, both inside and outside. We were four related families for a total of 20 people- ranging in ages from 2 to 75, and everyone loved it. The Maine House is spacious with an open plan- we spent most of our time there and on the wonderful deck facing the lake. The furnishings are tasteful, and the houses all have a relaxed and comfortable feel- not too "precious". The setting is very private, with a huge lawn that was great for frisbee and tossing a football.
The lake is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The kids enjoyed swimming to the dock, and the kayaks and rowboat. We rented a pontoon boat and brought SUPs, which added to our enjoyment of the lake.
The kitchens in all of the houses were very well stocked with everything we needed to cook for 20. We appreciated the laundry soap, dishwasher soap and the well stocked spice cabinet. For grocery shopping, Hannafords is only 5 minutes away. One night we ordered cooked lobsters from Hannafords. We had originally planned to spend a few nights eating in restaurants, but it was so pleasant at the compound, and so easy to prepare and eat big meals together, we ate in every night and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and evenings on the lake. The Lake House has a nice firepit and the kids enjoyed making s'mores after dinner. There were no mosquitos!
The Court House was perfect for the young family with the 2, 6 and 8 year olds. The house is set back from the other 2 houses- so there was no risk of the kids running out to the lake. The Court House is also on one level, so the parents appreciated not chasing the 2 year old up and down the stairs!
Ron was a pleasure to deal with, and always responded immediately.
The only improvement I can suggest is that one of the bedrooms in the Maine house has a full-size bed and a queen would be more comfortable. However, the master bedroom in the Maine house has a queen bed and is a beautiful and private room with ensuite bath.
We look forward to our next visit. Thank you.

Beautiful Vacation Spot
We had 24 people in our group and we couldn't have picked a more perfect location. The houses were well maintained and clean. The Maine house was very spacious. Even when we all ate together, there will still lots of space. The Court and Lake Houses were perfect and very quaint. The lake was beautiful and clean. We used the paddle boat and the kayaks and every one of us would go back there in a second. A wonderful week!!!

just fabulous
We rented Three Sisters for a family wedding, we were bringing guests from out of state and needed somewhere big enough to host our group, we probably could have had another ten people and been still more than comfortable. The property is gorgeous, no complaints everyone loved the houses, all very clean. The main house was able to host our entire group comfortably and allow everyone to get together easily. We had a question on heat and owner was very responsive had his maintenance guy over to assist us, even gave us a brief history on the homes. Could not have been more pleased with our arrangements, highly recommend this property for large groups.

Perfect wedding at a perfect location
This is a wonderful location. The homes are clean and amazingly open and comfortable at the same time, the water is clear and awesome to play/adventure in, and the owner is extremely accessible and communicative with any problems/ideas/setup you may have. We held our wedding of about ~30 people (10 stayed in town elsewhere since we didn't want to overload the homes) over a few days, and the place was more than large enough for the outdoor games, social gatherings, and dining for all of them. We've got memories galore and we have no doubt that we'll be asking about this property again in the future, presuming it hasn't been snatched up :).
* Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc?
The number of beds, bathrooms, amenities, and details were all 100% accurate.
* Was the property clean and well-maintained?
The property was immaculate. The owner cleans up before/after each visitor has their stay, and it shows. They also provide cleaning supplies in case you (like us) break an egg or two while cooking, which we made good use of.
* Did the owner or manager provide good customer service?
Ron was phenomenal, easy-going, and great to work with. We were clear about our goals, and he was clear about the ability for the property to meet those needs, and was very clear about what could/could not be done. He was prompt with responses, and was even available on the weekend when we needed a last-minute extension.
* Would you recommend this property to a friend or relative?
Without a doubt. This was a great place for family to gather, and I have no doubt that we'd choose this again. This might just start being a tradition :).
* What activities, attractions and restaurants did you enjoy?
We enjoyed the various water craft (canoe, two kayaks, and a pedal-powered boat) and the dock for the days that the weather held up (we had one cold/rainy day out of 3). We used the local Hannaford to get local groceries (Rowe farms has some amazing apples this time of year), and there were a bunch of stores in town that were fun to shop around for anything you might need (touristy or otherwise).

Perfect spot for our large family vacation
Lake Wassookeag is clean, perfectly clear and was in the 70s. We practically had the whole lake to ourselves for all day fun canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, tubing, wakeboarding and just cruising around in our motor boat. Weather was spectacular and all 19 of us had a blast!!

Beautiful, Family Friendly Property with Stunning Lakeviews
Three Sisters is just about good as good can get. I depend on the reviews I read on VRBO/Home Away and other vacation rental sites when making a decision about renting a property sight unseen. You may not be inclined to read my lengthy review below so here are a few brief descriptors from our family: perfect for a large family gathering; clean, comfortable well equipped homes; pristine, crystal clear lake that is perfect for water sports and fishing; easy entrance to the lake for the little ones; family friendly; relaxing; spectacular sunsets and the list goes on and on. I would add that the online description of Three Sisters is accurate and the owner is very responsive and helpful.
Our family of 20 ranging in age from 5-70 just returned from spending an unforgettable week at Three Sisters celebrating my husband and my 50th Wedding Anniversary. The property exceeded our expectations in all regards. The lakeside setting is gorgeous, the grounds are beautiful and the three homes, each with its own personality are spacious, comfortably furnished, and very well equipped. Every day someone in our family would say “this place is perfect”. And, perfect doesn’t fully describe the property. While the 20 of us were spread among the three houses for sleeping we spent our waking hours outside on the beautiful spacious deck of the Maine House, enjoying the crystal clear lake – swimming, floating, cannon-balling off the raft, kayaking, fishing, canoeing, tubing (you must rent a boat and tubing equipment), stone skipping, duck feeding and more. We would drift in from the lake for a game of ball or cards or to eat and then back out again. Most nights a grouping of cousins, sister, brothers, aunts, uncles and grandparents headed onto the lake in our rented pontoon boat to star gaze. We spotted 8 shooting stars one night (bring your constellation map with you and see how many you can find). Three Sisters is a special place and our family enjoyed every minute of our stay there.

Perfect for multi-generation family reunions
We had another wonderful week at Three Sisters again this summer. Your place is really perfect for our large group and we are so grateful for the opportunity to rent from you! The set up is so perfect for multiple generations, as everyone has their own space to retreat to, but the main house remains the primary gathering space for meals, games, etc. The tennis courts are a HUGE bonus! In years past we also sought out town tennis courts in other rentals, but here, it's all available in one place. We also really appreciate the use of your kayaks. Finally, we don't have to lug our own all the way from Pennsylvania! The beach area, dock, deck and main house are our favorite spots, but there is really not a single thing we can complain about. This is a gorgeous property with every amenity. We have been here two summers now, and everyone in our family is hooked. We have made special memories already, and we hope to keep coming back for many more years. Thank you so much for sharing Three Sisters so that we can all enjoy this perfect place for families to reconnect, make memories and enjoy a wonderful vacation together.

Girls Getaway/College Reunion
Three Sisters was the perfect location for a "Girls' Getaway". My college friends meet annually at a different location to renew friendships and catch up on each other's lives. We have been doing this for 20+ years and Three Sisters was the most accomodating, friendly, beautiful and fun location we have ever encountered. It allows privacy, if you want it.....as well as a beautiful "Maine" house where all can congregate for coffee, cooking, laughing or whatever.... THREE SISTERS IS THE BEST!!!!!!

Family gathering at Three Sisters...and a wedding!
My new husband and I booked the Three Sisters for a family getaway, inviting 18 family members to meet us in Dexter for some fun, relaxation, and a wedding, which we held on the property. While it was a long drive for our guests from Ontario, once they reached the property everyone thought that the trip was more than worthwhile.
This property is even more beautiful than we could have imagined. It has beautiful wood features and cottage touches with modern amenities thrown in (wireless internet, satellite TV, dishwasher, washer/dryer). The gathering room in the Maine House is enormous and easily allowed for a simple reception meal after our wedding ceremony (which was conducted outside beside the lake). The other two houses are also lovely. With three different meeting areas, our guests were able to spread out and have both together and alone time.
The deck is also huge with beautiful views of the lake. We spent most nights sitting out on the deck enjoying the gorgeous sunsets and then making our way down to the bonfire pit beside the Lake House where we made smores and enjoyed the calls of the loons. Surprisingly, the bugs at night (and during the day) were scarce.
The lake is extremely clean and was a pleasure to swim and play in. We rented a couple of boats from a local rental shop and skied, tubed, and fished all week. We also took a couple of trips by water to the local seafood shack which is located on the smaller side of the lake. We all piled into the small fishing boat, the canoe, the kayaks, and paddle boats and enjoyed a yummy dinner and ice cream on the water. On the way back, the lake was usually calm and it was awesome to experience the sunset from the water.
As other reviewers have noted, Dexter is small but has all needed amenities. Bud's Shop & Save is great, as well as Reny's. Guests could easily purchase forgotten items in town and be back to the cottage in about 15 minutes.
We took a single day trip up to Millinocket to go white water rafting with Three Rivers Outpost on the Penobscot river. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLY FUN!!! While there were a few Class V rapids, we all felt safe and had a great daylong excursion. The river also afforded great views of Mount Katahdin.
Needless to say the end of the week came much too quickly. Hopefully we will be able to return to the Three Sisters for another family vacation in the future (maybe for our 10 year wedding anniversary).
Thanks for renting your beautiful property!

This place has it all!
Fabulous place to stay for families of all ages! There were 19 of us and we never felt crowded. Kids (and the young at heart) were swimming, canoeing, kayaking and playing tennis & soccer all week long. Sunsets over the lake are beautiful and the sound of the loons at night is magical.
We took a short (20 minute) road trip to Dover-Foxcroft for the annual Whoopie Pie Festival and experienced a true slice of Americana along with the Whoopie Pies! Another jaunt was to Moosehead Lake in Greenville. It's only 45 minutes away and worth the drive. However, it is hard to leave the 3 Sisters because there is os much to do there and it is so comfortable! All of our material needs were easily met in the local stores of Dexter: Bud's (groceries) Reny's (everything--and I mean everything--talk about another slice of Americana) and a Rite-Aid.
After hearing about the trip and seeing the photos, many of my friends are interested in gathering their families in Maine. I do not hestitate to recommend it to anyone!
