House was amazing. Beds were comfortable, rooms were nice and the kitchen was great. Only thing I didn’t like is there wasn’t a TV in the main living area, but other than that, no complaints at all.

Great house. We had a great time and the house was well equipped with everything you would need. We enjoyed every minute we stayed.

This was by far the best family vacation we’ve had to date. The house is very large and well taken care of. We stayed with another family (4 adults and 5 children) and could have easily had room for another family. The view of the lake is spectacular and we spent every morning drinking coffee and every evening drinking cocktails on the second floor deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen is a dream and left me wanting to go home and remodel mine. The game room on the first floor was a great place for the kids to play and was a nice noise buffer. And you can’t bear the location. Durango, Purgatory, Silverton, and Ouray are all really close. We were able to experience all these areas and easily get back in time to relax with a lake mountain view. John was an amazing host and reached out as soon as we checked in to welcome us and provide additional information. You can tell he loves this home and takes great pride in making sure other families enjoy it as much as his family has. We love this place and can’t wait to come back!! Thank you John for providing a place where our family created life long memories.

John was and is a very congenial guy—easy to contact and easy to work with. His home is beautiful (well stocked) and situated on a gorgeous hill overlooking a pretty lake. That said, the lake is not conducive to swimming or fishing because of a deep marsh that surrounds it. OH WELL…
we had a great time all around the mountains and towns. GOOD LOCATION!!!
There is fishing on all the nearby (famous) rivers, trains, old mining haunts, hiking, ski lift rides, pubs, spas, shops ….and then you can return back to “peace & quiet” at night in this comfortable home. Thanks John & Family!
FYI—We never saw your caretaker (not really needed) but want to mention we found a leaking propane on the BBQ.
We replaced and checked it out before we left! Also, the canoe oars are missing and your fire pit took a hard hit with the heavy snow you had. Hope this info helps you.

The house is great and the host was very gracious and responsive at all times. We couldn't be happier with everything. We'll definitely be coming back to this home!

I am not sure where to begin as this was one of the worst properties we have stayed in all of our travels. A sampling of the issues are as follows.
1) The heat would not turn off in the master bedroom and was 82 degrees 24 hours after entering. The only way to solve was to shut entire heat off for the entire house leaving most parts of the house in the low 60 degree range.
2) No hot tub as depicted in pictures and in description.
3) Internet worked only in one spot in the kitchen with one person online. Also the password for the internet was worn out on the paperwork in house so we had to guess to figure it out.
4) Pool table depicted in house through pictures, but was in the garage.
5) No key to the house so if garage door broke, no way in. Also got locked out once because front door auto lock when you leave.
6) The owner never responded to my questions on the 1st day leaving us to search for a management company number.
7) Dishwasher left a disgusting film on the dishes that had to be rinsed off before use.
8) House needs major maintenance from cleaning, to loose tiles, to paint, etc.
The only redeeming quality was the location and views, but we expected better.
Thanks
The Martins

Great space but needs some repair work. Some window blinds do not work, parking area muddy, mouse in the wall found dead in the kitchen.

Our family (six adults and four young kids) utilizes VRBO's frequently for family get togethers. Lakeview Villa was far and away the cleanest a best equipped place we have ever rented. Purgatory Trail across the road, U.S. 550, from the Purgatory Resort entrance is a great hike and there is a nice set of playground eq. on the north side of the small lake that cannot be seen from the trailhead parking lot. In absence of a hot tub we went to Durango Hot Springs (formerly Trimble Hot Springs) and had a great time. The Hot Springs has a family area as well as an adult area for just the grownups.
We would highly recommend Lakeview Villa to everyone.

This property was amazing! We had a great time.
The property requests you have a 4 wheel drive. We had rented a 4 wheel drive car but the people before us recked it. So we only had the option of a 2 wheel drive mini van. But we bought some tire chains as a back up. Needless to say the day we arrived there was a huge snow storm. Long story short… we got stuck on the hill and ran into a snow drift. 😅 The neighbors were super nice and helped us to the house.
The next day the property manager Johnaton came to check on us. We told him our story and he was so nice to take to take time out of his day to take us to the mountain to get our ski rental for the next day. He gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The drive way and the neighborhood was plowed the next morning so we could drive our car with the chains. Moral of the story….. 4 wheel drive is really needed in the winter. But it all worked out.
The house WIFI didn’t work very well so the TV’s didn’t have a signal. Our families we forced to actually sit and just talk to each other every night. It was nice.
The view out the back door was breathtaking.
The kitchen was beautiful with a huge table. We made dinner every night and sat at the table with dinner with our families and talked and laughed about our day at the Purgatory Ski Resort. (Which is 5 mins away)
The only con I would have is the master bedroom was so hot. But I am from Texas and we are used to AC and ceiling fans. We survived.
I would love to see this property in the summer.

An amazing retreat
It was the perfect place for our large family vacation. We had 7 adult and 7 kids, and never felt cramped. There was always plenty of hot water and it was honestly more spacious than we expected. We joked that we could get lost in the house. It was well stocked with lovely finishes throughout. The kids loved the hot tub. I enjoyed yoga on the deck each morning with a much more beautiful view than flat Texas.
The location is about a 25 minute drive out of town, but easy and doable (at least in summer). You are literally 3 minutes from Purgatory Ski resort as well and only about 30 minutes from Silverton. In my opinion, it is worth being a bit of a drive out of town to be in the quiet and beauty of the location of the house in the mountains and on the lake.
The owner and manager were responsive. The wifi isn't great but it does work, but honestly, we weren't there for the internet, quite the opposite. Don't hesitate to book this place!

Great house with many amenities and well stocked.
We did have to wash bedding before sleeping in beds - dog hair, stains. The tub in king room on main floor is lightweight and not secured - very dangerous and no warning. The washing machines and ovens were very dirty. It was in the 90’s the whole week we were there. No AC and no blinds so house heated up.

The property was beautiful and unique in layout. The biggest drawback was lack of lighting in bedrooms and baths, as well as lack of shelving on which to put anything. Shower heads were a problem in two of the 5 baths.
There is still a problem with fishing and canoeing on the adjacent lake. The property owner, again, did not pay for a permit to fish. This was disappointing to the kids and guys who looked forward to doing so. I recommend removing "fishing poles/gear" from the advertisement.
I would also add to the advertisement that the building does not meet ADA requirements. There were 3 floors with steps that did not have handrails. The shower also did not have handrails.
The cooks enjoyed the kitchen and having a very large refrigerator. Also having the televisions away from the dining/kitchen/lounging area was nice as it encouraged conversations, etc. (enjoyed not having to listen to sports, etc.)
Parking was very good and the property easy to access. But the directions to get in with keypad access were incomplete and we never could do this. The property manager left the door unlocked so that we could get in. He also later showed us an alternate method of getting in. There were several other issues that he attempted to resolve while we were in residence.
As noted in a previous review, the property manager came into the building without giving us notice and this was disconcerting.
Overall, the stay was nice and enjoyed by the 5 families that were there.

Amazing Ski Vacation
Super close to Purgatory, max a 5 min drive to the parking lot. Amazing amenities! Well stocked home with any extras you may need or have forgotten. We had an awesome time and will definitely be returning!

Amazing house. Super location
Loved the house! Has everything you could want.
Like other reviewers said you will have to have AWD car.
Did have a couple of issues with the heat. Master bed stayed 75 even with the heat off.
Carbon dioxide detectors went off if you try to cook.

Great stay.
Great property. Good for two families. Some of the sleeping arrangements are pull out beds so not super comfy, but good for kiddos. Other beds were comfortable. Nice fireplace with wood supplied. Great kitchen. Fully stocked. Wifi is not great, if you need it for work or school, it might be sufficient. Kids had fun sledding out front. Close to the slopes, great location if you have 4x4 vehicle. Lowest level floor/game room is chilly, but owner sent some heaters over for us. They were responsive to a few small issues. We had a very nice time.

Beautiful Home and Location
We had a wonderful stay at the Lakeview Villa. We would love to come back in the summer to fully appreciate the lake! It snowed the whole weekend we were there and our boys loved that! The views were beautiful and the house was very spacious and comfortable. I especially loved that the kitchen was actually stocked with every tool I could possibly need. Owner and property manager were both great in communication. Location was great as we were doing several activities in and around Purgatory Resort. We really enjoyed our stay.

Family and Friends Ski Trip
Everyone in our group had a fantastic time! The house was much larger in person than what the property photos conveyed. It fit our large group of adults and kids comfortably, everyone had a lot of space to spread out. The kids really enjoyed the game room, upstairs loft and heated floors. The kitchen was a hit, we cooked almost every meal during our stay. It was very well stocked with all of the kitchen necessities and then some! We felt right at home. The ski resort was super close which made it very easy to get to the slopes. The only minor issue we ran into during our stay was that one of our vehicles had trouble getting up the driveway on the last day, we had to contact John to pull us out. He was very responsive though and came over immediately to assist us. I would recommend when staying here during the winter you bring a set of chains for your vehicles.

This home was beautiful! 3 floors that were all very uniquely decorated and felt very homey, not like a hotel. When the owner says 'fully stocked' he wasn't kidding! We had 7 adults and 5 kiddos and never ran out of dishes, even eating 3 meals a day there! The game room, hot tub and lake equipment was thoroughly used and enjoyed by all! The door locks are a bit tricky but we all enjoyed the deck areas as much as the surrounding trails. The drive to Durango and the train station were just the right distance. It was quiet, peaceful and fun for all! Thank you for this great place to get my family all together!!

Lots of Cleaning supplies available.. disinfecting spray, dish soap, hand soap, dishwasher pods, laundry detergent, etc.Tons of dish towels (though only 2 bath towels per bathroom, no extra sheets).Couple of CONs but I would absolutely stay here again!- There are 2 dead aspen trees by the garage; we were worried, as they will eventually fall on a car.- There are at least 5 lock boxes out front, all with different codes. I wish we had clarified ahead of time WHICH box we had a code for. I also wish the property mgr had communicated that he had unlocked the house for us.- Only 1 king bed (in master) and no closet or dresser in the master.- We had a lot of very slow/near-death flies (we killed at least 40) in the kitchen corner by big window. Could just be from house not being in use right before us. They showed no interest in our food so I wasn’t too bothered.- WiFi ranged from mediocre to bad.- Hot tub with views from the lower deck was fabulous but next time we want the chlorine tabs added before checkin.- Like a previous reviewer mentioned, we were booted off from fishing in the lake — Tim the lake manager is controlling the narrative on your feud. Please just pay the $150 annual fishing fee.- Some general wear and tear on the house.Couple of items need repair:1 Dining table pendant light is burned out1 Dishwasher is not heating/cleaning (the one by the kitchen sink) — don’t worry bc there’s a second dishwasher!1 Oven (the right side) was constantly re-lighting and had temp settings in Celsius — don’t worry bc there’s a second oven!2 Screens in the Bear Room, and the right window won’t crank.

Respite from the heat and CoVid
One of the best properties we have stayed at. The scenery and location are beautiful. The home is very well decorated and well equipped. Located just minutes from summer fun at Purgatory. Tranquility on the lake with the backdrop of the mountains. The house itself is very unique, with a Romeo/Juliet balcony and exterior medieval feel, but with the interior home feel of a Lake retreat. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future.

Let me explain...
Let me jump to my main reason for the poor review. We wanted a place where the family could fish from the property. I specifically only looked for this type of property. I spent way more than I should for 5 people to stay at a house this size because the title of the property stated, “And fishing at the doorstep”. Within 10 minutes of arriving, my boys sprint to the lake behind the property. Within another 10 minutes a man shows up and says that the property owner didn’t pay the restocking fee and implied there was bad blood between the owner and the management of the lake. I contacted the owner who said that it should be fine anyway and that he would look into it. I never heard back. The next day the kids tried to fish again, and again within 15 minutes were told no fishing for the same reason. I gave up after that and drove them to a nearby lake everyday, but it definitely put a damper on the trip as the convenience of having a property to fish from was the sole reason for the stay. I contacted the owner again on the last day stating that I was still upset. He said he contacted the HOA, but it was too late. I felt stuck between a couple of people in a feud over a restocking fee and not sure who to believe, but at the end of the day didn’t get what I paid for and didn’t receive anything but “sorry for the hassle” from the owner.
The were a few other smaller issues that were easy to overlook because the property was beautiful, but the inability to fish killed it for us.

Nice place with great views
The property was very nice. Everyone had plenty of space. We all enjoyed the views from the deck and family room. Good location with easy access to lots of hiking and a relatively short drive into town.

A Dream Come True!
We had a very relaxing beautiful stay at the Villa. Our family really enjoyed the spacious layout if the Villa and the fishing! I caught a 20” rainbow trout. Incredible!

Beyond expectations
Firstly, the views from the balconies are absolutely breathtaking. You'll want to wake up early (before the kids get up) sit outside with a fresh cup of coffee and just savor the mountain air, birds singing and the glass reflection of the sky bouncing off the lake. Then there's the house! Detail in every nook and cranny - there's even a hot cocoa bar! The hot tub is enormous and well kept as well (a kid favorite!) All the rooms are beautiful and the beds are incredibly comfy. I'm reluctant on even writing this review because I want this place all to myself lol. But the communication with John and his wife has been so great that i feel like we're kinda already friends so i'm doing this. This place is the nicest rental house we've ever stayed in and we will definitely be coming back to create more unforgettable memories with our family.

The gourmet kitchen and pantry are well stocked and the open floor plan Is fantastic. We really enjoyed the grand fireplace and gorgeous views.

Unique Spacious Dwelling
Two kitchens but minimal closet space & not for anyone having mobility issues. Fishing & canoeing were not what we anticipated. However, spectacular views, great hot tub & perfect weather made for a wonderful family vacation.

Large family
We loved the house, plenty of room for our extended family, kids and grandkids. The grandkids enjoyed paddling the canoe around the lake. Beautiful views from the three decks. The garage space was a bonus for storing all of gear. Perfectly located halfway between Durango and Silverton, right across from Purgatory resort. The only downside was the mosquitos, but a little Off took care of that. The front door was a little tricky, remember to push the button on the edge of the door so you don't lock yourself out.

Beautiful home, Beautiful property, Beautiful area!
Overall, our stay was wonderful! The home & property are beautiful - we enjoyed exploring it & enjoyed the serene lake & scenery (even though the lake level was low due to the drought...also we were sad that the zipline was broken). I wish I could have packed up the scenery & the cool, refreshing morning air & taken it home with me! The lake had a couple resident beavers & some ducks, & I think some geese, & there was one evening that we saw a bald eagle in a tree on the opposite side of the lake! The huge kitchen is absolutely amazing. Everything you could ever need & beautiful appliances - I especially loved the big frig & the digital toaster! The kitchen is well stocked with seasonings, pots & pans, etc. Home is well stocked with extra pillows, toilet paper, etc. All the bedrooms were nice & comfy & clean...likewise the bathrooms. The gameroom could use some attention though - old/torn carpet & some bugs in the window sill & closet. One complaint about the Bear bathroom & Bear bedroom - the lighting is VERY dim in both. Other than that, the room was comfortable & the views from the bear room - stunning! I loved waking up to the views & to the birds chirping every morning! Wish I could have taken that view home with me too! The kids in our group loved the loft area. We all loved the large dining table & comfortable living room. The older kids in our group (& even some adults!) enjoyed the game room, especially the pool table! ...Although the room is not quite wide enough to make some of the shots. We used that small pool stick that someone made - very ingenious! But, because the small stick didn't have a proper chalked end on it, most of our shots using this stick were horrible, LOL! Overall, we all loved the home & had a wonderful time. Only the minor issues mentioned...oh, ALSO - the front door handle/lock would sometimes get stuck in the locked position & it couldn't be opened from the outside. I really think this issue should be addressed soon. The owner & the caretaker are both great. Right before our scheduled stay, the wildfires caused temporary closures in the area, so the owner delayed taking our final payment until we were certain that the wildfire danger had passed. The caretaker was nice & did a great job removing trash, answering questions, etc. Again, we loved our stay, loved your home & we hated to leave. We will definitely stay again if the opportunity arises! (also, it was fun adding a rock to the collection!)
