About this cottage rental
Situated in the heart of a small lobster fishing village, Bridge View is a stylish, 3 bedroom cottage with a renovated scallop boat lounge. Built in the 1890s, Bridge View was recently renovated and decorated to reflect the nostalgia and aesthetic of midcentury Maine.
While Bridge View is the perfect place to just unwind and watch the lobster boats go by, it's also ideal for experiencing Downeast culture. Each morning, go for a short stroll around the fishing village. Breath in the salty sea air and photograph the sea captains hauling in their catch. Buy fresh lobster or shellfish straight from the pier. If you’re looking for more energetic pursuits, kayak Western Bay's countless coves or hike Great Wass Island, a renowned nature reserve connected to Beals by bridge. You can also take the lobster and shellfish hatcheries tour at the Downeast Institute or sample New England’s #1 rated lobster roll at Bayview take-out just down the street. ("Best Lobster Roll in Maine/Massachusetts" - USA today). Coastal boat tours are also available including puffin, seal, whale and lighthouse tours.
Bridge View and Beals are truly unique. The town of Beals is blissfully free of the tourist hordes that crowd most Maine towns in the summer and is the perfect base for visiting other popular Downeast destinations. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are just a little over an hour away. Drive the opposite direction up Route 1 to the historic coastal towns of Eastport, Lubec, and Campobello State Park, FDR’s beautiful summer home. The towns of Machias (host to famous Helen’s restaurant) and Cutler (home of Captain Andy Peterson’s popular Puffin Tour) are both just 30+ minutes away. But wherever you go, you’ll never be far from Maine’s dramatic, rocky coast or boulder-strewn blueberry barrens.

We had a lovely week. The home is beautifully set up and very well kept. Everything was as expected. Host is wonderful, attentive and provided a lot of research on itineraries and suggestions for the area.
This home is well located between Acadia, Machia, Lubec.
I would love to go back!

First - the host could not have been more helpful, and created a great resource library for everything Maine!
Second - the house was just fun, although the stairs were a little daunting for aging knees.
Third - inside the house was a fun treasure hunt. We so enjoyed staying there. Comfortable, cozy. Beds great, shower very good. Little touches - fabulous.
Fourth - Beal's Island was such a great retreat from the busy world we live in. Down to earth folks, hard working, pride in their life. Enjoyed it all!

We loved our late summer getaway to Beals. The house is well-stocked and chic, with quirky mid-mo details (and gorgeous harbor views) everywhere you look. Rich is an exceptionally attentive host, providing various itineraries depending on your interests (hiking, beaching, etc.) as well as securing several discounts and perks (free bottle of wine!) with local vendors. Visitors should be prepared to drive to most local attractions; Beals is definitely a more remote location. And larger parties should note that there is not a dishwasher. Neither of these bothered us, because quiet and peaceful was what we were after, and we're apartment dwellers used to handwashing dishes...but it might be an issue for others. Check-in and out was a breeze.

Rich and Julie are the ultimate “virtual” hosts, they have well crafted guidebooks for Downeast Maine that were invaluable. The house is excellent including the record player and the vibe the house creates. From
Beals and beyond the region is well worth a visit and we hope to be back to the region/house in the not too distant future!

A place to getaway and enjoy Downeast Maine
Easy to find, clean with everything you need when you're away from home.

We loved everything about our stay here. The house is fantastic, and a mid century paradise for those of us who love that style. The house was very comfortable, and very clean. It rained our whole week, so we didn't have a chance to use the outside spaces, but they appeared to be very nice. There was a herd of deer that foraged and played in the brush immediately surrounding the house all week, which was fun to sit and watch. In particular, there was a piebald deer, which I had never seen before. Super cool. We loved the hiking in the area. Many, many amazing hikes within a 30ish minute radius. Rich provided a ton of resources for helping us to enjoy our stay, and was very helpful and communicative. I highly recommend staying here. Thank you Rich and Julie for sharing your adorable home with us.

We highly recommend staying at Bridge View on Beals Island. Lovely home in a picturesque and serenely quiet location. Great deck and private yard. Rick is a fabulous host and very responsive to questions. House is centrally located for anyone who wants to explore Downeast Maine. We had great food at Helen's in Machias and Chipman's Wharf in Milbridge.

We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Bridge View very much. The presentation and photos on VRBO are what first drew us to this property and village. The home is beautifully appointed with Rose family treasures and outfitted with the all necessities that anyone would need. Rich, our host, took great care in providing us with information before our trip and in binders at the house. Beals is a fascinating look into a very friendly, hardworking seafaring community, albeit somewhat removed from some conveniences and attractions. Since we’d already visited the usual tourist areas in Maine on two other vacays, it was the diversion we were looking for. Our favorite dining was eating our own lobsters from Barney’s Cove. Our favorite hike in the Beals area was Seaduck Point with a beautiful view and a pebble beach. Favorite more distant points were Long Point Preserve and Jasper Beach in the Machiasport vicinity. So many options, too little time!

Richard and Julie Rose were wonderful hosts of this beautifully appointed Beals cottage. The amount of research and suggestions of itineraries they put together for their guests is amazing! Nothing was too much to ask of the hosts. Their home is immaculate and eclectic and a whole lot of fun! The antiques and items throughout the house are stunning and add to the warmth of the cozy town of Beals. Beds are very comfortable, too!
My husband and I enjoyed hiking at Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge, Jasper Beach, grabbed a beer and a bite at the Bad Little Brewing Company in Machias and had a delightful and very tasty dinner at the Bluebird Family Restaurant. We hiked at Roque State Park, Great Wass Island and did quite a bit of walking around the very friendly island of Beals. Be sure to wave to all as you walk around the town!
A great place to unwind and escape the hordes of tourists at Acadia and the Bar Harbor area.
Thank you to the Roses for a fun vacation on Beals Island!

Bridgeview and Beals, ME - great place to get away!
Situated in a quiet little Maine town with excellent harbor views, this property exceeded all of our hopes! We did not want a over-bedazzled "touristy" area for our vacation, but wanted to see the wilds and everyday life of Maine and it's residents. This beautifully kept home helped us do just that and made for a great base of operations for all of our adventures throughout the week. It quickly became a welcome place for my wife and I and our two grown children to come back to after days of running and exploring to relax and rejuvenate. Close enough to everything we wanted to see, but far enough away from the tourist hoards! We appreciated all of the great books about local history, etc. and enjoyed the eclectic antique atmosphere. Some of my personal favorite touches are the antique magazines on display ranging from the 1930's through the 1960's and the vinyl record collection. Tons of fun! It seemed like Rich and Julie have thought of everything you might need on a visit and make you comfortable enough to make the house your own during your stay. We appreciated all of the little extras they provided as well and can't express enough how it seems like they REALLY CARE that you have a great time. All of us would go back in a heart-beat and hope to do just that someday. But for now - back to real life I suppose!
You could not go wrong staying here. Highly recommended!

Wonderful Stay in Beals!
We loved our stay at Richard and Julie's place. If you are looking for a property that is tastefully designed, this is the place - modern comforts with a vintage / retro curated design. We love to cook and were very happy with the kitchen complete with all of the kitchenware and space. Comfy beds topped with clean and cozy duvets you can snuggle up in on a cold night. The hosts make the stay feel like you are truly at a friend's home - so much info on the area and tips. And on top of that they were easy and fast to connect with anytime. We will definitely go back!

Charming house in a great location downeast
We had a great one-week stay at this unique cottage on Beals Island. It was quirky in the best way, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore, making it feel a bit like a treasure hunt.
Beautiful, quiet, out-of-way location near the gorgeous Great Wass island but still close to other downeast attractions.
The host was very communicative before and throughout the stay and provided tons of useful information about the area.
Highly recommended!

Wonderful Spot
We had a terrific week in Beals ! The house is very tastefully appointed and lived up to the pictures. Beals is a pretty rural location but we thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Rich was a phenomenal host who went over and above any prior host we have experienced. The binders provided at the house have an incredible amount of helpful information. We struggled to fit everything in ! From wonderful beaches , hikes , lobster straight from fishermen !
Would thoroughly recommend the location. Particularly good if you want to disconnect.

Beals is perfectly situated for numerous day trips in coastal Maine. Rich & Julie gave us tons of suggestions for activities and were responsive when we had questions. We loved our stay here and cannot wait to return!

Beautiful cottage in relaxing setting
We had a great stay in beautiful Beals, Maine with our toddler. It was quiet and relaxing, and the home was perfect -- stylish yet very comfortable and homey. We would definitely recommend a stay to anyone looking for a Washington County getaway.

Enchanting Island Cottage
Our stay at this house began with the owner’s attentive responses to our queries. Not only did he answer our questions promptly but he also went out of his way to make sure this was the type of vacation home we were looking for. Once we got to the location, we were enthusiastic with both the house and the location. The cottage itself is a gem: it is delightfully furnished with period pieces (an antique carpenter’s table right in the kitchen!) and filled with wonderful and useful books. It was spotless and functional. The island and its residents are the nicest people we have come across in a long time... and the locations around the area are too beautiful to describe with words. This was a fantastic experience from beginning to end!

Gem of Beals
From the very moment of booking the owners made sure our stay at their beautiful 1890's cottage was perfect. Communications request were answered almost immediately. The cottage was tastefully decorated. It was a joy to explore every room as each had it's on beauty and vibe. All rooms were very clean, the beds very comfortable and the turn table cabinet stocked with many vintage albums was a true pleasure. This is the place if your wanting to experience Beals / down east Maine unfiltered . I would have given the location five stars if the nearby bridge construction equipment wasn't blocking the bay views which is out of the owners control.

Bridge View was a joy to stay at! Beautifully decorated and thoughtfully appointed, our family of 5 loved every minute. The owners were very helpful and communicative before and during our stay. Just as pictured
The Bridge View Cottage was everything it is advertised as. Cozy cottage in the heart of Downeast Maine.
Rich the owner is very responsive to any questions or concerns. He has even compiled tons of places to go, places to eat and things to do. It was very helpful when deciding on adventures for the day.
Beals is a very quiet lobstering town. If you are looking for the bustle of Bar Harbor this is not the place for you. However if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and recharge this is the place. I enjoyed my time in the house and look foward to staying again next summer.
Oh! And make sure you try the food at Bayview Takeout. The fries alone are worth the visit.

My wife and I stayed in Beals for a long weekend. This was the perfect spot to explore Downeast Maine. Rich was incredibly responsive and provided a lot of local information that will benefit you no matter your interests. Everything was immaculate, and every incidental you could need was provided. We have already started discussing our next stay at one of Rich's properties.

Lovely house, great design sense, and super clean
We had a wonderful time - the house was lovely and kept really nicely (and everything was very clean). The owners have a great design sense and the house is furnished with mid century modern and other antiques. The owner was super helpful and checked in several times to be sure all was okay and to give great advice about the area and things to do/see. The area is definitely a bit remote, but we really enjoyed being far away from it all.

Friendly and Warm...
A little jewel in the midst of a lovely fishing village. We were welcomed by neighbors and local people. The home was such a beautiful compliment to the surroundings. Well edited and extremely thoughtful. The hosts, gracious, helpful and just really kind people. Rich and Julie asked what we were interested in and gave suggestions accordingly. They wanted to make our vacation the best! We did not want to leave. It could not have been better. We can't wait to come back! Cheers, Kathleen, Jim and Eileen

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage. Quaint, peaceful, picturesque. The cottage is well maintained and is noticeably decorated with an attention detail which has a warm and welcoming feel to it. The owners are thorough and very responsive to any questions or inquiries. I personally spoke with Rich and he is great to work with. You can immediately sense that he is genuinely interested in each and every one of his guests having a great vacation in this quaint fishing village. I would highly recommend this property.

Lovely cottage in delightful Beals, Maine
We just spent a terrific week in this wonderfully renovated cottage overlooking Beals harbor. The nicely equipped property is a delight; decorated with style but functional and comfortable. The location in the working lobstering village of Beals is a perfect base for exploring Downeast Maine. It's away from the crowds but well situated for hiking Great Wass, Roque Bluffs, Schoodic and Cutler. It's also an easy drive to Lubec and Campobello. We especially enjoyed our morning walks around the friendly village, visiting Bayview Takeout, buying lobsters at the dock, and taking in the magnificent view from the deck. We are kayakers and spent a memorable day paddling around the lovely Great Wass archipelago. Just gorgeous! The owner, Rich, was great to work with and provided lots of helpful information. All in all a wonderful vacation and highly recommended.

This was a wonderful vacation for us. Beals Island is a working lobstering community. We love to bird and this location was well positioned to see migrating species. In addition the house is newly renovated and a pleasure to live in. Beds really comfortable and fully equipped kitchen. Highly recommended all the way around

Perfect location to go to Lubic & Bar Harbor & Great Wass while avoiding big crowds! Feels like home
Living in NYC, we are used to seeing all kinds of lifestyles. My husband and kids wanted to enjoy some of nature without compromising too many commodities. Our little New Yorkers are very hard to impress, yet as soon as they walked in the door they went "wooow! This is awesome!!" This says a lot about the home & its owners and the attention & care they've put into their home.
At 1st, my husband wanted a waterfront but we're so close to the water on all sides it really didn't affect us at all, we preferred this home 100x over any other waterfront experience. This home's location in Beals was perfect for us to ride bikes with our kids, 8 & 11 yr old, around town & it was very safe. Honestly, this was not my husband's 1st choice -but it was mine. We had a really bad experience with the beachfront home my husband wanted right across the bridge in Jonesport. Once we "met" Rich, the owner, we were SOOO relieved the other property fell through! This home was the best thing that ever happened to us!!! Rich kept communication during our entire vacation. From the welcome, to when we got "home", to recommending best restaurants, even surprised us with a gift card to one of the best local restaurants at Machias. He was within reach throughout our entire stay even wishing us a safe trip back home.
We honestly didn't feel like we were renting, it felt like we were house sitting for a family friend. The linens and housewares were all high quality, even cuisinart knives! -I wish I had time for more cooking...This home is beautiful & feels homie from the time you set foot in it.
They are definitely not the usual renters, they are lending out their home and you feel it all the way throughout the trip. This was our perfect 15 yr anniversary/nature getaway!!! Will do it again in a heartbeat!!! My kids were not ready to come back home, this was a true accomplishment! Thanks Rich for such an awesome vacation!!!! -From true NYers: we were very impressed!!

Thank you Richard! ;)

This house is a designer's delight!
The house is totally remodeled and incorporates the best that the tiny fishing village of Beals Island has to offer and the dedication to mid-century modern design detail. It is wonderful!
I highly recommend it for anybody that wants to get away and relax in a very "Norman Rockwell-esque" setting while being treated to the modern updates and features that mid-century design offers.
Rich is a fantastic communicator and really helped us get our bearings and finalize our daily trip plans. There is alot to see and do and thanks to him we accomplished all we set out to do.
Well done Rich and Julie!

Beautiful cottage and lovely location
The cottage and its location were exactly as described on the website. In fact, it was even better than we imagined. Hundred year old cottage just recently renovated with everything you need in the kitchen and a grill on the deck. Fabulous view from both decks of the harbor. Wonderful to be in a village with a working lobster fleet and neighbors who were extremely friendly and generous. The owners were so helpful and provided great service prior to and throughout our stay. We feel like they are now friends. The location provides access to the whole downeast region. So many wonderful places to hike and great food everywhere we went. We especially liked the Bayside Takeout that we could walk to in 5 minutes and loved the sunsets on Cranberry Cove just around the corner. Highly recommend! Hope we get to go back.

Perfect!!
We loved this home! It was my family's first visit to Maine and this was the perfect home and perfect location. This lovely cottage is beautifully decorated and quite comfortable for our family of 5. Rich checked in several times and graciously suggested a list of "must sees". We relished in the immersion of the hustle and bustle of the fishing village and spent many hours at the docks or watching the boats lazily navigate the bay after a long day of lobstering. All the fine amenities were including in the house from lush white linens to thirsty thick bathroom towels. Will definitely go back!!
