About this house rental
When the builder of this condominium wanted to create for his wife a lasting testament to his love and esteem in which he held her he had designed and constructed Roma, a masterpiece of architecture and design that has the look and feel of a Roman palace. However it is on Tamarindo Beach in a tropical paradise where the guests can walk to everything. When you move through Roma you feel like it was created from great inspiration. Every furnishing and decorative object feels like it was selected after much consideration and it looks like it belongs where it is. The marble staircase when you first enter is a work of art. It is not a place you would expect to stay on a holiday. It is, let's say, spiritually appealing. This is 5,000 square feet of mystery where I wondered with each step what would be the next surprise its creator wanted an explorer to see. Two immense terraces on each floor provide you with views you will never forget of the ocean, mountains and coast. The penthouse is the best unit in the Sunrise Condominiums in Tamarindo.
I loved the upper balcony that allowed us to be above the canopy of the trees and above the other buildings. It offered spectacular panoramic views of the ocean to the west and the hills to the east. The sounds of the birds and waves were so relaxing.
The location could not be better. The beach was just across the street, and we walked up the street through town for coffee, dining, and shopping many times each day. You really are in the heart of it all.
The pool area was fun and relaxing in the afternoon and very clean.
The penthouse itself is gorgeous as you can see in the pictures.
We would gladly stay there again and would highly recommend it to friends and family! Enjoy!

- Typical Central America/Mexico style...tile floors, simple nice furniture, etc
- Great outside deck on the very top of building. Great sunsets, etc
- We were a family with two kids in early 20s and two in elementary school (and two parents). More space than we needed but it was nice to spread out. You could easily fit 2-3 families, which would be good to take advantage of the 2 nice balconies
- A few areas of potential improvement...some peeling paint near ceilings (likely old, fixed leaks) and 1-2 of the bedrooms not as AC'd as the main area. No big deal though.
- Property manager generally available and responsive. Booked horseback riding and airport shuttle through her and they were great. Was not able to book another activity through here. All in all positive experience

- Not cheap but found it to be a good value compared to other options
- Would definitely book this location again and recommend to friends.

Spacious 5 bedroom condo, fit our family of 11 very nicely, within walking distance to everything. The beach is directly across the street. The condo complex has a lovely pool which my grand children thoroughly enjoyed. The condo itself is large, has 3 large terraces, 2 overlooking the pool area with ocean views and 1 that that overlooks the parking lot and mountain view where we would hear and sometimes see the Howler Monkeys early in the morning. We also saw large iguanas in the trees. Very exciting for the kids. We spent 15 days here. The condo came with a maid, she was very nice and made up our beds everyday, swept up and washed the towels. I would stay again.

Excellent property, great communication with Managment. Very close to everything, walked everywhere with no issues, property clean and thought the pool looked even better in person. Party of 9- we all enjoyed and would go back.

Amazing large 5 br 2 floor condo in the heart the of Tamarindo right across street from Tamarindo beach. Nice uncrowded pool area. Walking distance from everything and even easier with a golf cart. The housekeeper is very sweet and attentive. The upper patio is one of the best places in the area to view the sunset. Would recommend to all.

What a lovely place. Two amazing terraces, and comfortable rooms. Absolutely must watch the sunset from the top level. There is a maid that comes daily which was a bit strange at first, as I'm used to cleaning and making sure everything is well taken care of. I would recommend this place 100%

We had such a great stay at this unit. We especially enjoyed the upper deck with the cold tub during our children’s nap time. Our only concern with children was the gaps in the rails on the deck, however this is consistent with the entire condo complex. The description doesn’t do this place justice. Lots of room and great for large families or groups. Check in and out was very flexible which we appreciated. We will absolutely be back to stay here again!

Location within tamarindo is amazing. Evila did a great job of keeping the place clean. We did not experience any negative issues while staying here. I would say that the pictures from the top deck do not do justice. Amazing sunsets and ocean view. Everyone was very helpful and overall was a great experience.

This is the most interesting unit I’ve ever stayed in at the sunrise condo complex. It is big, great views, and very comfortable. Everyone was super helpful, the property managers, the housekeeping, and as always the gate guards. I’d definitely stay there again.

Property was roomy and large enough to fit our large group. Location was convenient to everything in Tamarindo; beach, restaurants, shops, etc. Would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend to others. Thanks for a great vacation.

Location is the brightest of many bright stars for this rental
I can't say enough about the location. Waffle Monkey, deep sea fishing, live music, horseback on the beach, many restaurants, surfing, casino; all less than a 10 minute walk away. In the case of surfing, its literally across the street. The view from the second and third floor balconies can't be beat.
Check-in: Flexible and 100% functional. It was a physical key handoff. I personally prefer keycode or lockbox; but this worked perfect.
Cleanliness: We've done more than a half dozen VRBO rentals and this was the cleanest. Eliza does a great job. The availability of a full size washer and dryer(in unit) was a god-send for us.
Accuracy of listing: It is as listed. Beautiful in every way. One nice feature thing that didn't come across in the listing is that the property is walled and gated with a guard on duty. We never felt in danger walking around outside the condo area but I liked the idea of the gate and guard anyway.
Housekeeping: This weirded me out. I've never had a housekeeper or even a monthly maid service so the idea of someone being around was just odd to me. I was the only person in our party of six that this bothered so that is totally on me. She was not a surprise, it was clear in the listing. As the reviews suggest: she is quiet, good at her job, efficient, and speaks little to no English.
I think the rental was excellent, good value, and if we return to Tamarindo with a party big enough I would definitely try to get the exact same place.

This property is as beautiful as the pictures and a short walk to restaurants, shops and the beach. The best part was watching the sunrise and sunset from the upper deck.

Luxurious 2 Story Penthouse Walking Distance to the Beach!
This place blew my mind when first walking in. It was absolutely gorgeous! It's two stories with 4 bedrooms downstairs, each with their own bathroom and shower. There's another room with bathroom and shower upstairs which also leads to the outside terrace. The view up there is spectacular which shows the entire skyline of the ocean! There is a spa, but no hot water so we never went in it.
There is another terrace on the main floor with tons of furniture to lounge in while viewing the ocean and pool with waterfalls down below. The kitchen was huge so it's a great place to cook if needed. It's on the top, 4th floor of a condo complex and walking distance to the beach! You can also walk to the main road with all the shops and restaurants. There is an elevator as well as stairs which weren't too bad. It was easy to go back and forth from the pool to the condo. We loved the pool too! There were a few cats roaming the property and seemed very friendly.
I thought the place was better than the pictures in the ad. You will not be disappointed! I would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location for a large varied group
We recently celebrated Thanksgiving in Tamarindo with our grown kids and their spouses. This property provided a spacious comfortable bedroom for each of 4 couples each with its own private bath. The fifth bedroom allowed space for a friend to visit during the time we were there. The WiFi allowed several people to work while there with no problem. The surfers in the crowd were able to surf as much as they wanted with easy access to lessons and beach daily. The location is walking distance to multiple options in restaurants and bars - most of the group walked everywhere and the food was very good. There was secure parking right next to the elevator for our car and the location was great to use as a home base to explore the area for those not wanting to spend all day on the beach. An additional family member is married with children and they were able to secure a condo in the same unit right off the pool so we were co-located. We walked to the Pangass Beach Club for a stunning seafood feast on the beach for Thanksgiving - it was a perfect celebration. For those like me that want to be able to fix breakfast and sometimes other meals in - there is a spacious fully equipped kitchen with a full sized stove and refrigerator. There are grocery stores within walking distance with limited items and on the way out of town there is an Automercado that is very upscale with a seafood and meat market and good wine and coffee selections as well as a lot of other harder to find cooking ingredients. We had coffee every morning on the beautiful covered deck overlooking the ocean and pool. Most evenings everyone returned so we could go to the upper deck with the private hot tub and enjoy the sunset before heading out to dinner. The view is spectacular. The common space in and outside was spacious and adequately furnished to allow everyone to join in comfortably. To top it all off, a very nice housekeeper came by daily to sweep and clean the floors, freshen the towels and pull up the beds. This was wonderful since it is very difficult to keep the sand totally at bay.
She also taught me how to make Gallo Pinto! All in all, everyone could do what they wanted for their holiday - separate and together. I was happy to hear from the grown kids that the stay exceeded their expectations. I highly recommend this as a large group facility.

The best in Tamarindo!
This villa is beautiful. It’s exceptionally clean and spacious., and the location was perfect. The sunset views are amazing. Eight of us stayed in May and enjoyed every minute. The entire process went very smoothly from booking to checking in. We made great memories and the whole experience could not have been better!

Fun with friends.
This property was excellent it was advertised perfectly. I had never been to this part of Costa Rica. It's right in town and just across the street from the beach a perfect location for families with young adults. I would definitely visit and rent here in the future.

Short but sweet
We loved every minute of our stay. Our only issue is that it had to be cut short because of cover-19. But the owner has given us our days to use next year and we really appreciate that.

Beautiful Property, Excellent Location
First of all the property is clean, spacious, well equipped, and has spectacular views and location, just steps to the beach and town. There were several beach chairs that were light and easy to carry to the beach. The furniture in the common areas is new and it's very comfortable. There was a large new grill that we used to grill tuna we caught on a fishing trip. There were 10 people in our group and the condo accommodated us beautifully. Everyone had a comfortable bed, a private bathroom and plenty of space to spread out. The common areas were perfect for all of us when we wanted to play games, share meals together or just hang out. The balcony on the second floor was perfect to watch spectacular sunsets or stargaze. It was great to have a housekeeper everyday, she did a wonderful job, and was always pleasant. I can't say enough about the management of the property. Joel, Sharon and the owner Dan were fantastic. They were quick to respond by phone or email to our questions and Sharon arranged our round-trip transport from the airport. She came to the condo on the day were leaving to make sure we were charged the correct amount on our return to the airport. We all would highly recommend this property for an enjoyable stay in Tamarindo for a large group. Thank you Joel, Dan & Sharon!

Beautiful Penthouse!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this amazing condo in the perfect location! We stayed with 3 other couples and we had plenty of space. The view from the balcony and rooftop were spectacular! The pool was beautiful, but many of the chairs were very worn out. Having a housekeeper come every day was a wonderful treat. Small grocery store next door as well as lots of wonderful restaurants. Would highly recommend!

Great location and lots of space
Just stayed for a week (12/20-27) with 5 people (my husband and I plus our 3 boys ages 21,18,15). Condo is just as pictured on website. So much space to spread out and be either indie or outside. We never even used the top balcony, because it was just too hot.
Pros:
1. Location is AMAZING. Very close to everything. No need for car or golf cart.
2. Very clean with good maid service every day.
3. Attentive owner and property manager. Great communication. Had AC issue first night and they sent someone over immediately at 9 pm to fix it. No issues after that night.
4. Lots of space for everyone.
5. Amazing view from both balconies
6. Pool area is beautiful with lots of chairs in the sun or the shade and never too crowded
7. Amazing Beach directly across the street right where the surfing is best.
8. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need. The maid cleaned everything up each day.
9. Having a washer/dryer was great. But bring your own detergent because they didn’t supply any.
Cons: (very few and most are very small)
1. Water pressure not great
2. WiFi was very spotty all week which caused some issues with my kids being able to be on their phones (which with those age kids- they can’t live without!)
3. Very little lighting in master bathroom.
4. We were told there were beach chairs available, but there was only one sand chair that actually reclined and was of any quality. The others were very cheap plastic chairs that only sit up. We had to pay $40 on the beach every day to have lounge chairs, which was kind of annoying. Thought with what we were paying and for how many people the place holds, there should have been a bunch of good beach chairs.
5. Many closets and cabinets were locked up and unusable. We only had 1 person in each room so we were ok but if there was a full house, it may have been tight for each person to fully unpack.
Overall- it was a great experience. We have never stayed in a rental property like this on vacation before, but we decided it was a great way for the 5 of us to all be together and also get a lot more space than renting 2 hotel rooms. We would def do this again and I would def recommend this condo!

Sunrise Condo - amazing place, amazing experience!
We had such a great time here. Apartment is huge. A.C. was awesome. Hot and humid times and we were perfectly comfortable. Location is perfect. Short walk to anything and everything. Safe and gated. Pool was perfect temp! Would definitely come back - no question!

Perfect Location Beautiful Views Great Pool
Ultimately I landed on 4 due to the overall location & grounds of the property, which were superb. The unit is walkable to anything you want, unless you are stocking up on groceries which are only a 5/7 minute drive away. We felt safe here w/our 5 older teens & found excellent restaurants nearby. The elevator was no problem/only 4 stories. Stairs were easy as well.
I spent most mornings on the top balcony before anyone got out of bed. It was a peaceful ocean view & overlooked the waterfall pool (which we used & loved a lot). The sunset was breathtaking as well. I highly recommend the Tamarindo part of Costa Rica. We had group surfing lessons which were awesome!
The unit itself is very large (though a little dated) & there was certainly enough space for all of us to have a bed. The beds were very comfortable, pillows were fine. The kitchen was stocked with more than enough items (one stove eye does not work but the others did), utensils, glassware & plates. There were no basic pantry items other than packets of sugar, in case you are used to having a pantry with sugar, flour, & spices in your rental.
Minor drawbacks: The bathrooms had no vanity lights. This was a big surprise, especially in the master bath. It is dim w/2 small lights in the ceiling so if you are doing make up or hair, you would need to go in another room.
The hot tub was still missing a part & we knew that ahead of time. If you want to use it in the heat of the day just to relax, ask them to have it cleaned for you before arrival. Evila was there from 9 til noon each day. We could not communicate with her since we do not speak Spanish. She was not in the way & it was nice to have the floors swept & the towels washed & folded each day. There are signs that say she will not do your laundry, which was absolutely fine but she did anyway. Because she washed all items in the same load: delicates, cottons and colored clothes, I tried to have them done before she got there the other days. If you are worried about this let them know ahead of time. Otherwise, it was a nice bonus for us. She is friendly & did not feel invasive during our stay.
We did not get entry instructions until we had left our previous rental which was 4 hrs away so we did not have access to wifi to get them. We waited w/the security guards for more than 1/2 an hr to find out the door was unlocked lol. We would have loved instructions the night or morning before arrival. Overall we had a positive experience.

One of a kind
We loved this spot!! Great for our family of 6. Very attentive staff. Pillows were a bit lumpy but it was a tiny price to pay for such a fabulous stay!!

June Stay in Tamarindo
This property is all about location! It's a great spot. We had 2 families equaling 11 people. The layout worked well for us. It was nice having Evila for a few hours per day to keep up with the cleaning.
The manager is having some health issues so the booking process was a bit cumbersome. The owner stepped in to make sure we had everything we needed. We are an independent group and don't require much once we're settled in.
We all loved Tamarindo - would go back.

Paid in full
The company pays the owners 3-5 business days after you check in now, which is different than before according to VRBO- as well as Joel and Daniel. This made the owners upset, and I can understand why if they are used to getting paid differently.
We paid in full months in advance using a credit card we have been with since 1992, and were accused of using a foreign credit card because HomeAway has their corporate location set in Ireland, which is what printed on the credit card statement provided to show proof we paid- not to mention the VRBO app saying we paid in full. Also have all email receipts. We paid.
They used all kinds of threats to try to coerce us to pay again which should have never happened as it ruined our vacation. These guys called and emailed us daily and through the night. There is another review on VRBO that says the same thing so it wasn’t just us.
As far as the property, the kids beds were hard, the hot tub didn’t work, and the elevator was super hot and sketchy so four flights of stairs was the norm.
I wonder how many people have fallen for this? So sad. What a waste of thousands of dollars.

Beautiful home - just needs a property manager who takes care of the issues
The location is perfect, very nice home with lots of space, beautiful views. We had a great time and loved Tamarindo. Everyone is very nice down here. Surf was so much fun and waves every day. There were several issues with my experience with this home, mostly surrounding the property manager Joel Hookerman. From the time I booked the place and paid the full large fee for the 6 days we were staying there. I have used Homeaway and VRBO many times with no issues and very seamless transaction. Joel would call me after 12 AM while I was sleeping. He asked me at least 6 different time if I paid even a few weeks before our stay, it caused a lot of unneeded stress. We arrived at the condo on 4/22. We contacted Joel and he arrived. Each day we had maid service which was great, but she would come at 9 am and stay till 11 or 12 – so it was a little awkward while we were making breakfast and relaxing. One of the amenities we wanted was a hot tub, that is what we all really wanted after a long day of surfing. Upon arrival we realized the hot tub would not get hot, I called Joel and asked if they could fix it, I was told they need a part and it will take 3 weeks. There was a nest on the fan on the main balcony and 3 birds were living there, there was bird feces all over the porch and on most of the furniture on the balcony, as well as the guest room balcony. Someone taped the fan control, so we could not turn it on. The maid would clean up the feces every day. One night I sat in fresh feces. A bird died on the outside couch. I called Joel, he asked if I killed it, who says that, and he the birds never bothered any other guest and he was fully aware. He also stated the birds only poop in the nest, whci is absurd and they moved the furniture away from the fan. After I alerted him of the dead bird, he never sent anyone to remove the nest. For 2 days, the building had an issue with pipes and shut off the water, we couldn’t flush a toilet, drink water or shower. I called Joel again, he said he would call someone, his suggestion was we can always take dip in the pool. I could not even believe he said that. So, my guests had to shower outside at the pool shower. The property manager is not doing a great job with taking care of the place. I think VRBO should refund some of the fee, maybe half, for the unsanitary conditions, non-working hot tub and the 2 days without running water, especially we had to travel on flights without showers.

Great location & beautiful property
A group of 10 of us (5 couples) stayed in Sunrise Villa # 28. It was very clean and spacious and having Evila as our housekeeper daily was a real treat! The property is in the heart of Tamarindo, right across the street from the beach which was nice if you wanted to go back and forth quickly and easily. You can walk to anywhere you need to go from this location! Joel was very responsive during the entire process and always answered his phone. My only complaint was the hot tub was not hot otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay here again!

It was a 5000 sf Penthouse with wonderful ocean viewst right next to Tamarindo Beach.
Wow, we had are own housekeeper, Evula, full time. We enjoyed the huge all-tile pool with an amazing water-falls. We’re going back next year 0nly we’re staying another week.

Great Week for our Group of Six
We enjoyed a great week in April! The unit was spacious and clean and we were more than comfortable with six people. You can definitely fit more. It was great that every bedroom has its own bathroom. The views from the patios were fabulous. The pool area was clean and never really crowded.
We took the advice of Joel Hookerman and did not rent a car. You can walk everywhere! Joel made several restaurant suggestions and they were all excellent. He also arranged several tours for us as well. Definitely excellent customer service. He goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need.
If you are looking for a spacious unit for a large group, don't look any further!

Perfect location in a gorgeous villa!
Absolutely gorgeous property. Clean spacious and private bedrooms with baths. Perfect for several couples traveling together or a big family. The location is across the street from Tamarindo Beach. Walkable to everything in Tamarindo.The rooftop patio view is pretty special.

A gem at Tmarindo Beach
Our family of ten were fortunate to locate Roma by the Sea. We spent one week at Tamarindo Beach . They say location is everything. Returning to the quiet Sunrise Condo after a day at the beach was perfect. Quick shower and a walk away from many fine restaurants, as recommended by Joel (property manager). Joel was there to greet us when we arrived providing valuable information about the condo and dining options. The condo was very spacious allowing all to spread out and enjoy some quiet time on any of the three outdoor terraces. The waterfall pool was refreshing. A good time was had by all! Pura Vida.

Great place and great location
First time in Tamarindo gor part of our group and and everyone was very pleased with the accommodations. Customer focused service and serious attention to detail. Definitely will return and stay here. Looking forward to returning.

Amazing Penthouse. Great Location. Great Service.
We could not have asked for a better place. Eight of my friends and I stayed here. A housekeeper came to clean every morning. Joel gave us a lot of good advice recommendations for the area. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I go back to Tamarindo.
