About this house rental
Fridley Creek Hideaway is half a mile from Highway 89, 30 minutes north of Yellowstone National Park and in the heart of Paradise Valley. The Yellowstone River is less than 1 mile from the house is a world renowned fly fishing destination.
This house is perfect for the avid fly-fisherman/woman. The famous Story Lakes are less than 5 miles up the dirt road and all you have to do is contact Belinda Story, the owner, for rod fees and availability. You must call Belinda and pay the rod fee before going to either the lower or upper lake. No trespassing past the gate if you are not confirmed and paying a rod fee to fish or sight see. There are a limited number of rods available per day so call in advance. No hiking to the lakes without paying a rod fee and advance reservation.
For those who do not want to pay a rod fee to fish or pay to see the lakes, there is a private fishing access point across highway 89 on the Yellowstone River.
Fridley Creek Hideaway is situated on the oldest cattle ranch in Montana. In 1866 Nelson Story traveled to Texas where he bought 1,000 longhorn cattle. He and 13 tough cowboys trailed them from Texas to Montana arriving in the Bozeman area in December 1866. Around 1870 Story relocated the main headquarters of the ranch to the Emigrant area.
The wrap around deck lends a spectacular view of Emigrant Peak. The house is nestled in trees and surrounded by old ranching equipment and outbuildings, giving it a unique western vibe. The creek is a short walk from the house and fishing access points on the Yellowstone River are a 5 minute drive north to the Emigrant fishing access.
The house is great for a lucky couple or group of 6 people or less. The kitchen and large mudroom area are upstairs with a washer and dryer. The kitchen upstairs is spacious with a round table and bar area separating it from the upstairs living area. There are two bedrooms and that share a full bathroom. One queen room and one room with two twins.
The basement was recently refinished with a beautiful and bright wooden floor and exposed brick. The living area has ping pong and comfortable seating. Downstairs also has a king bedroom and a full bathroom.
The house is surrounded by a small yard with ample space to walk around, ride your bike, or take a run. We have a grill for cooking outside. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you may need.

Everything in description and more. Tanya was very communicative without being invasive. The house was super nice, comfortable and spacious. All amenities were there and of good quality. Absolutely a top notch rental

Our family stayed here in Emigrant for a week of enjoying beautiful Montana and Yellowstone. This VRBO was great. It had plenty of room. The kitchen had everything we needed. The location was fabulous. It was so restful, quiet and an absolutely beautiful environment. We saw deer, rabbits, red tail hawks, and even had a big bull on our lawn on evening.

This was a very comfortable stay. The location was great. Close to Yellowstone, Chico Hot Springs, Livingston. Off the highway and no neighbors to worry about. The house was comfortable and had all the furnishings you would need. I'm not gonna lie...asthetically speaking the house needed some upgrading and repairs. Nothing that affected (effected?) our stay or made it unlivable. Things like towel racks about to fall off, a hole in the bathroom door (outside part only), the yard needed some attention. No curtains, but no neighbors so - not a big deal. But we didn't really stay at the house because we were off exploring. The host Tanya was very nice and helpful. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others. oh..also no AC. Which I don't think is too uncommon in this part of Montana (at least when I was looking at other places - most didn't have AC) I don't think it's usually too hot in Emigrant and the nights were cool so it was fine

Good base for exploring north Yellowstone

Pulling up to the house one is met by the beauty that Montana holds. Amazing sunrises and sunsets are easily visible from the property. The night sky is breathtaking. There are many wildlife friends that are easily seen at any point in the day. The house has plenty of room but stagger your showers for everyone to have hot water.
Very short drive between Livingston and Gardner.
When coming back to Montana would stay here again.

The house was in a beautiful location. The house was comfortable, like staying at your grandparents home. The stairs were a little creaky. There were no ping pong balls for the table but we bought some and were reimbursed. We stayed here to be closer to the north entrance of Yellowstone but the flood prevented that. There was not much to do in the area without driving a distance but we still had a good time. We saw the most beautiful rainbow over the mountains one afternoon and enjoyed watching two different owls near dusk one night.

We were extremely happy with our house near Yellowstone. The furnishings and the beds were very comfortable and the house was spotless. We enjoyed seeing the owl in the shed, the deer on the property and hearing the coyotes at night. The privacy was outstanding. We used several hiking suggestions left by the host and used the hint for bear viewing as often as we could to watch grizzly bears. This property helped make our trip to Yellowstone wonderful.

The house was great with very comfortable furniture (which is lacking in most vacation rentals) especially the king bed. Working with the property manager was super easy. But, I have to give ita 4 star rating for a couple of reasons. First, the house has no window coverings except one window in the living room and one main floor bedroom. Not even in the bathrooms. The other thing is no air conditioning, which was not a problem for us because the temps were not too hot during the day and there are three fans you can use. Last, the kitchen was sparsley equipped. We were owners of a vacation rental for over 9 years, so we understand the challenges owners face. Overall, we had a great experience even though the other couple that was to meet us there could not make it due to illness (not covid).

We really enjoyed our stay. The home features a cozy eat-in kitchen with range, MW, dishwasher and refrigerator. A spacious laundry is right off the kitchen with a washer and dryer. The first floor family room features comfortable seating and a large 1080p TV. 2 large BRs on the main level (1 queen and other BR with 2 twin beds) and a 3rd large bedroom with large window in the basement, which has a king size bed and adjacent modern bathroom. The upstairs bedrooms also shared a full hall bath.
The property is well off the road and not visible from highway 89. It house features a real pretty with a wrap around porch with 6 Adirondack style wood chairs looking over a scenic landscape. The house is just under a 30 minute drive (highway speed limit of 70mph) from the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. We had 2 full days in the park, following our 4 days at Glacier National Park.
Overall, I recommend it as a fine place to stay. Tanya, the VRBO Manager for the home, communicated well the entire trip.

Great place in the country. Still close to Emigrant, small town with a couple of good restaurants and and a good local grocery store.

My family absolutely loved our week stay at this property! The home was clean, private and had amazing views. We enjoyed having private access to the Yellowstone River. My husband and son had a great time fishing on the lower lake and playing endless games of ping pong. During our stay we hiked Pine Creek falls, explored Livingston, soaked in the Chico Hot Springs, went white water rafting in Gardiner and spent time in Yellowstone. We would definitely book this property again!

This was a beautiful, secluded property that met all of my families needs. It was a 30 minute drive to the north entrance of Yellowstone. We woke up each morning to various wildlife right outside out windows. We only had one area of improvement to suggest for the property which would be the upstairs shower head- it was difficult to use and could use an update.

Our youngest son graduated from high school and he chose Yellowstone as his trip. We booked this property and absolutely loved it. Had one issue with the coffee pot the first morning of our stay and contacted Tanya, she tried to help us trouble shoot and when that didn't work she brought a new one over while we were out for the day. My only recommendation would be some black out curtains in the bedrooms, the sun comes up early LOL. Thank you so much for a wonderful place for our family vacation.

Fantastic! Gorgeous view. Nice to be away from park crowds. Close to Chico hot springs where day passes are available, Tom Miner basin for wildlife viewing. Deer in the yard and babbling creek.

My family had an enjoyable stay at the Fridley Creek ranch house. Views from the front porch are spectacular and the property abounds with wildlife. Deer and sandhill cranes foraged in the yard daily and, to my amazement, the great horned owl in the photos was in his spot in the old barn "window." Loved hearing him and his mate hoot back and forth at dusk.
House is spacious and furnishings comfortable, including a king-size bed in master bedroom. Kitchen is adequately stocked for basic meal preparation. Main downside of house is occasional noise from water/well pump and squeaky stairs, but limiting nighttime water use and trips up/down stairs solves this. My kids and I enjoyed playing ping pong on the table downstairs where there is plenty of room -- no knuckle scrapes on walls!
The welcome/information book in the house was one of the best and most useful that I've encountered in my VRBO stays.
One might be tempted to stay closer to Yellowstone (if visiting the park is the focus of your visit), but I'd say that the easy 25-30 minute drive through Paradise Valley to the north entrance of Yellowstone is every bit as beautiful as the park itself; I made the drive there-and-back four times and never once wished I was closer to the park. The slow drive through Tom Miner Basin (went to a grizzly bear lookout mentioned in the welcome book), is gorgeous, as well.
My only regret is that our trip was timed such that extensive snow melt and run off made river fishing pretty much impossible. If I'm able to get together several friends for a future southwestern Montana fishing trip, I'll be looking to stay at the Fridley Creek house for sure.

Large home with easy access to Chico and other MT luxuries! Great communication with manager.Plenty of bed space for 6! If you have 7 and someone sleeps on the daybed, the pump for the water is super loud! The house could use a few more “stockable” items. Nothing too concerning. We would stay again. Girls trip and this home was comfortable! Owner was accommodating with arrival time.

Plenty of social distance
Very cool location on a ranch, no one else within a mile. There are historic ranch buildings near the house, it was neat to explore. The house itself is comfortable and clean.

Just amazing property!
If your looking to find a place with an amazing view right outside of your door this property is exactly what you need! We walked all over this property and had the pleasure of the owners letting us check out their lakes. The views are like nothing of this world. Everything was exceptionally clean. The downstairs was perfect for our boys to bunk together. They still have their ping pong scorecards saved for our next visit! Lol we had zero issues and if we would have I have no doubt Tanya would have been right on it! Our very last day the owners let the cows come and visit and it sure was a treat! Thanks again Tanya and looking forward to coming back!!!

Great Base Camp for Families
We stayed for 5 nights and loved it. Plenty of room to spread out, nice wraparound porch to sit on, campfire site in the yard, gas grill, ping pong table, and the large comfy sectional couch are some things that added to the experience. The view is incredible! There is Private access to Yellowstone River via a short walk. My husband and I took 4 teenagers to Montana to visit the sights of Yellowstone, fish, whitewater raft, rock climb, hike, Soak in the hot springs, etc. We used this house as a base camp. It’s located approximately halfway between Livingston and the Park entrance, so it was the perfect spot for us. We ate at the Old Saloon/Livery and shopped for groceries at the Emigrant General Store nearby. Research the Story ranch history. Very interesting! Overall, a great stay. Enjoyed the solitude of the ranch setting.

Yellowstone Trip
Great location to use a base for exploring Yellowstone. Beds were comfortable and owner was quick to bring a new coffee pot when original one broke. It is an older home without A/C, but with the windows open you are comfortable at night.

Incredible Montana Ranch Experience
Our family of 4 absolutely loved our week-long stay on this property! The setting was absolutely spectacular and fun for exploring. We saw great wildlife, went on runs to beautiful lakes and had exceptional star gazing opportunities at night. The private fishing access on the Yellowstone River is absolutely stunning! We were so happy we chose this old ranch property for our vacation in Montana. Also, Tanya was very helpful in connecting us to local guides for fly-fishing, rafting, etc.

Hideaway Beauty
We picked this property because it had room for three couples and we were in the area for a concert. We spent two wonderful nights here and the sunrise and sunsets were spectacular. The view from the front deck is amazing. It is truly hidden away and yet very accessible. We will certainly look forward to staying here again if we are in the area.
