About this cottage rental
Cedar Oaks Lakeside Resort - Previously Ohana/Riviera Resort - Under New Ownership
This air conditioned cottage is the perfect space for your family getaway. There is 1 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room with flat screen TV, and a full kitchen.
The best part of this cottage is the access to the gorgeous property and amenities that surround it. You will have access to our 200' dock to fish off of. Please bring your own anchors / tie downs for boat parking. We have over 300' of lakefront to swim and play in, a huge 40'x40' sandbox full of toys for the kids, multiple gas BBQ grills for you to use and many picnic tables for outdoor eating and relaxing. We also have two fire pits to use.
This cottage comes with one set of fresh sheets, blankets and pillows and towels. If you will need more than one set for your stay please bring additional ones as we do not do exchanges or have a washer/dryer available for guest use. There are basic dishes, glasses and silverware and pots/pans for your use, but if you plan on doing a lot of cooking I suggest bringing specific cookware that you want. We do supply you with toilet paper, hand soap, dish soap, and paper towel, but do not refill once it has been used.
If golf is your game there are many great golf courses nearby:
1. The quest is a great track that is close and a great value.
2. We are located 30 min away from Forest Dunes, the number two public course in Michigan (Second to Arcadia). Forest Dunes also just opened the highly anticipated reversible course.
3. You also have The Fox, Redwood Golf Course, The Nightmare, The Dream and Ye Olde Country Club
Main crossroads are M55 (W. West Branch Rd) and East Houghton Lake Dr (also known as 100).

My husband and I stayed in cabin #9 for three nights on the 4th of July weekend. The resort was clean and our room had a nice view of the beach and the water. We booked this room so that we could bring our pontoon boat but I found out that the water in front of the resort is so shallow that we never would have been able to dock it there anyway, we don't have a prop that tilts sideways. I think we should of been notified about this when we booked. We found some good restaurants in the area and there are lots of entertaining things to do. Joann the resort manager was very nice and helpful but we did have one big issue, our TV would not work. We called her and she instantly came to look at it but couldn't fix it. She said she would send someone else but they never came. We called the next day and again she said she would send someone but nobody ever showed up. Having a TV is a non-negotiable for me so I really wasn't happy about this at all! Overall this room was a good value.

Great lake front property on Houghton Lake. My family and I stayed for the 4th of July. Check-in/out process was very easy. Cabin could use a little update and love on the furniture and curtain department but nevertheless it was an overall great time.

Loved the view of the lake, with my morning coffee. Manager was awesome, friendly and very helpful. She provided us with everything we needed, during our stay.
Drapes need some love, attention repair and update LOL. Over all had an amazing comfortable stay

The place has a very retro vibe, a cute little beach and access to the water from the dock or break wall. Appliances and kitchen ware are pretty dated, we ended up going out to eat each time. The staff are super nice and helpful.

The views of the lake are wonderful. There are a few things that need to be fixed. But overall, we had a very relaxing time.

We had a good stay for a short weekend away. The restaurant on-site was BBQ and really good. If you have a large group there’s plenty of spaces for everyone.

The property is dated but clean. Curtains didn't work properly. TV is a dinosaur. The front screen door needs to be repaired before someone gets hurt. It just slams shut on people's backs. Some of the guest treated the property as there own backyard leaving there personal belongs all over the picnic tables for the whole weekend. I was going to request a late checkout but I could not reach anyone by phone or in the office. Regardless of these things I would go back with my young kids. Perfect place for kids!!!!

Great views
Nice place with great views. Kind of disappointed restaurant and bar on site was closed. Kind of chosen for that convenience.

Cottage 9
Cottage was a good size. Some of the furnishings as well as the plumbing and electrical were in need of repair. The bedroom had over sized bureaus which pushed the bed into the corner. The deck outside lacked proper maintenance. We were just passing through, glad it was only a one night stay.

Nice cottage for family stay
Everything was clean, just pretty outdated. There wasn't dates on when certain things weren't available, like the dock and boats etc. If you have small children and want to bring a DVD player, the TV is not capable. The cable was great though.. considering we knew we'd be wifi-less once we seen the outdated box tv we thought the weekend was going to be rough with a 4 year old and a 9 year old.
Bring outside toys, board games .
Property management was very sweet and accommodating. A restaurant right next to the cottage was super convenient.

Pleasant staff and cool location
The property is dated and could use a little sprucing but it was clean, the view and location is amazing and the staff was very attentive and pleasant. There is a restaurant onsite but we did not go there.

lots of space
Other reviews were pretty accurate. The pull out couches old and uncomfortable but we brought air mattresses. Lots of room. Bed was small and not most comfortable. Everything clean, manager super nice and helpful. Lot of people around us but we could not hear them when we were inside, Worst thing for me was all the goose poop, it would have been nice had someone raked that up

The manager was incredibly friendly and helpful and we enjoyed this beautiful spot very much.
The property is located at a wonderful spot on Lk. Houghton. The property is a bit retro but we loved it. Great people. Quiet after hours. Wonderful views. Restful. Will stay again 100%

Nice place and friendly Management
This was a nice stay. Perfect if you have a boat. For swimming not so much as access is limited to the water. Would not suggest for anyone who can’t handle steps and slopes. Would like to see updated couch/pull out. Again for an older individual all the couches set very low. The view is beautiful. We enjoyed our 4 night stay.

I'm having a hard time even leaving 1 star
All seemed well and good when I booked online. Quick responses. I started to have my concerns when the local gas station had never heard of them. Issues started at check-in when they asked for a credit card immediately for payment, I had already paid on VRBO and they should have my info on file, gave it to them. They said here's a beach a dock and freshly cleaned. Door was open and as soon as I walked in food was splattered on outside of fridge, both couches were broken, almost all the drawers were broken or dirty, still had huge greasy spots on the dinning table, floors were sticky, back deck area had thick moss growing and when I told them about this they said the snow had just melted. But why not remove it? At this point I was already worried about how well they sanitized it amidst covid-19 and didn't want to get sick, And the cherry on top the reason I rented this place was the view. Everyone said how nice it was. Even the lady at check-in said they had a dock and beach. When I get there the dock was folded and stacked up over 10ft high on the beach. Completely ruins the view and use of the beach. Kind of the reason to rent on a lake. And my answer when brought to their attention "what the h*ll were you going to use a dock for this time of year". Very rude. Refused to give me a refund or a receipt. I didn't spend the night here I ended up having to go to a nicer hotel down the road and pay out of pocket for it.
Overall it was a nightmare from the moment I pulled in and was nothing like the pictures look, also dock was noted to be stored. Would have really been upset if I brought a boat. Do your self a favor and don't stay here do what we did and drive around the lake until you find something better.

Definately returning
We had a great stay! Super friendly folks with a great view! My only disappointment was from our terrible governer who has the state shut down. Would have loved hanging out at the bar on the property and would have likely stayed longer if we could have. Cannot wait to return hopefully the state restrictions are lifted!

Quaint cottage with everything needed right on the lake
This was a very nice stay. It's a quaint cottage that came fully furnished with pots, pans, towels, silverware, etc. So convenient for us to bring our own food to cook for family with everything needed for the job including a stove, microwave, toaster, and nice sized refrigerator that we used. Great walk-out view.

The house needs updates
The bed was small. The floor was not very clean. The center table was broken. The cabinets in the kitchen were very old. Overall we enjoyed our stay as the view was perfect! but the house needs a lot of upgrades. But in all a good place to stay and enjoy your time.

Very nice service, but a little outdated
The staff was very friendly for both the resort and restaurant. They were very welcoming upon arrival and even provided me with an extra body pillow that I'd forgotten at home (as I was 30 weeks pregnant). However, the space was VERY outdated with a small TV and old kitchen appliances. And the beds were not very comfortable (had full bed in small bedroom and 2 pullout couches). We were only there 3 nights, but we probably wouldn't return if we wanted to stay longer.

Great Stay
Stayed 2 nights with my Mom and my two kids (7 & 4). We all had a wonderful time. Beautiful view of the sunset each night from our balcony and on the property. The kids had a blast playing in the sand box area and playing in the shallow water. No complaints. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will plan to stay here again in the future.

Great Staff!
This property is basic, so know that going in. Units are dated, furniture is old, and appliances have seen better days. I’m sure that is the case with many of the resorts in this area. We expected this so no surprises. The thing that sets this property apart is the lovely grounds, amazing sunsets, and the management. Chris worked tirelessly to make sure we were well taken care of and that we enjoyed our stay. Very hands on manager. If you are looking for a no frills experience, this place fits the bill.

Beautiful sunsets, perfect spot for families!
We love Houghton Lake, but have never stayed on this side (area) of the lake ... that is changing now! Natalie (booked with and maintained communication), and all of her staff were nothing short of amazing!! The location was perfect, the cabin was clean and spacious and had more than what we needed. And the views, of the views!!! The sunsets are AMAZING for this location! Perfect!
Thanks for a wonderful stay!!!! We'll certainly be back!!

Nice clean place
Sleeping accommodations are a bit tight as there is only one bedrooom so the rest of your guests will be on pull out coaches. Perfect for a younger family. Nice cold fridge and electric heat in living room and bedroom was more than adequate. Stove and microwave work as they should. Very convenient parking right outside front door.
