This home has a wonderful eclectic and rustic charm. There was plenty of room for the eight of us and the views from the dining/living room areas, deck, and master bedroom of Tenants Harbor were stunning and completely unblocked by any structures. There is a charming “secret garden” across the lane from the house that all of us enjoyed. There was a problem with the water heater producing cold showers but calling the owner, Betsy, resolved the malfunctioning heating element the same day. The owner is delightful to converse with and eager to ensure our stay was perfect. The property is in a great location. This is the fourth house we’ve rented, over the years, for a family summer holiday in Maine and it is the best, by far. There’s a full grocery store just a very short walk away, an amazing bakery (it’s closed Sundays and Mondays) with delicious waist-challenging pastries, pies, and breads. Between the grocery store and bakery is the Happy Clam, a rustic seafood restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. The seafood we had there was absolutely fresh and delicious. There is also within walking distance, an art gallery and another restaurant (we didn’t have time to try it). Also a very short drive away is Port Clyde and the ferry to Mohegan Island. Accessing the main roads out is super easy…all paved no dirt roads (something lacking in previous homes we’d rented in past years). I would rent this place again in a heartbeat.

Our family gathering at the Sail Loft was very special for us. The house and property were lovely with carefully tended beautiful gardens,. There were a variety of areas for activity whether it was on the large deck with nice furniture and glorious views of the harbor. There are two large gatherings areas, one on each floor that allowed us to spread out and have multiple activities going on at the same time. The commanding views of the water bring the outside into this house. The owner has installed beautiful art which contributes to the calm and beauty in the house. The baseball diamond behind the house provided a safe and level place to play a variety of games. We could walk to the general store and Port Clyde and Thomaston were close by for other supplies. We easily found nearby beaches for beach fun and nearby lighthouses and parks were easily accessible. There is a rowboat and two kayaks for water fun and strolling the grounds and road was lovely. We certainly hope that we can return to relax, play and share family time at the Sail Loft. A perfect place for a family gathering!

From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you will be dazzled by the incredible view, manicured gardens, and historic home. We loved every minute of our stay with our friends and family.

Wonderful home and location
My family had a great stay in this home. The location is incredible and we enjoyed watching the lobster boats go out of the harbor each morning and the beautiful sunrises. The house was full of character, extremely clean, and very spacious.

Classic Maine Getaway
This home has fabulous views and the town of Tenants Harbor is a gem. My husband enjoyed buying lobster daily from the General Store. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is tons of space if you're gathering with a large family. Internet is very reliable. We had a very good experience with the host, Betsy and the caretaker, Astrid. We really preferred the proximity to Rockport and Camden. Booth Bay was far more touristy. Be sure to grab ice cream and pastries from Village Bakery in Port Clyde. We also bought their frozen pies and cinnamon rolls at the General Store.

Lovely Classic Maine property
We could not have found a more perfect spot for our extended family getaway. The house overlooks the harbor, but it was still quiet enough for folks who wanted to sleep in. The main living rooms (living room, dining room and kitchen) are on the second floor with lots of windows so the views out over the water are spectacular. The house is spacious with enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to be comfortable and accommodated, a huge dining room table provided ample room to gather everyone for meals or playing cards and board games, the kitchen was stocked with every imaginable cooking utensil. Walking distance to the general store when we picked up groceries. And also to the East Wind Inn where we could visit with friends staying there and drop in on the hotel's scrumptious breakfast. It really was perfect.

The Perfect Antidote for 2020
You know you have been someplace special when the morning you check out, you have a pit in your stomach and a lump in your throat. That is how it was for us leaving Sail Loft after two amazing weeks there. Sail Loft has character, beauty, charm and I think even a bit of magic. The location could not be better - we even loved being awakened by those hardworking lobstermen. It allowed us to witness stunning sunrises. The natural beauty of the area, sparkling water, and sea breezes really helped heal our souls after a rough few months of confinement. We found great hiking in the area and explored nearby towns. We bought lobster right off the docks in the harbor and cooked them at home. Sail Loft provided a feeling of contentment that not every place offers. It was indeed very special and provided wonderful memories for me and my family.

An idyllic introduction to the Maine coast
Wow. We yearn to return! This property’s situation with view, character, access to water, garden and interior spaciousness coalesce perfectly for an idyllic stay on the St George peninsula, from where - rain and shine - we roamed and visited, via roads and water, many towns, ports, lobster shacks and local ships. Our host was easy to communicate with as well was our housekeeper. Thank you, owners, for the vision of stewarding this place well by sharing it with others.

Wonderful Stay
Three couples, who have been friends for 50’ish years and travel together quite a bit, just spent a fabulous week at the Sail Loft.
The house is charming. It’s large enough to spread out yet cozy enough to gather. The historic nature of the home adds to its appeal yet it also meets high standards for comfort.
The views from the house are incredible, across the harbor and coastal islands out to the Atlantic. The garden is gorgeous and we enjoyed fresh flowers throughout our visit.
Tenants Harbor is a small fishing village with a couple of good restaurants and a wonderful general store within easy walking distance of the Sail Loft. We loved watching the lobster boats come and go from the dock by the house. Also, we were very well located for day trips up and down the coast. We were lucky enough to enjoy some boating and found Tenants Harbor easily accessible for exploring the area by water as well.
Our group has traveled a good bit over the years and we all agree on our love of this trip and the Sail Loft.

Maine
The Sail Loft is a beautiful and very comfortable house. The highlights for us were the high deck with fantastic views of the harbor and the sunrises, the lovely flower and herb gardens and having use of a kayak. We could not have chosen a better place to have a reunion with old friends.

My family had a wonderful time staying at the historic Sail Loft. The home is spacious and well equipped, and the location can't be beat. The views of the harbor are wonderful and you can walk to the local library, school playground, the General Store, and restaurants at Luke's and the East Wind Inn. Thanks to Betsy for going above and beyond in helping to get us situated in the house. She was quick in her communication and helped us trouble shoot where to park my parent's enormous camper when we realized it wouldn't fit in the provided parking. We'll be back for sure!

Lovely historic home
Our stay in this historic home with beautiful gardens and fabulous views was delightful. While the home has been updated, it felt very tied to the past...lots of antique furnishings and artwork. The views overlooking the bay with lobster boats and out to the ocean was magical. The garden area along the waterfront was vibrant with color and interesting flowers and trees. Its an easy walk to the general store and bakery, but the nearby town of Port Clyde had a more vibrant town center. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes , cookware and appliances. We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely home.

Superfragilistic
Great environment and quick service with any problems such as clogged toilet and quizzical hot water system. Of our many VRBOs in NE and in France, this one is our all time favorite.

Amazing Home
Betsy's home is absolutely stunning. Beautifully maintained historical house with tons of character and charm, not to mention plenty of room for our family reunion. The view is awe inspiring and the town and surrounding area are picturesque. The house was fully stocked with anything you could possibly need. Baseball field in the backyard and beautiful gardens in the front. The herb garden just outside of the kitchen was a very nice touch. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful Maine vacation.

The pictures tell it all
The "Sail Loft" is as lovely as presented on the VRBO website. A wonderful home, beautifully decorated, comfortable, and spacious. Our family of 8 adults and 2 toddlers had plenty of room to spread out. There is a harbor view from all the east windows and the deck, looking out across the beautiful, well maintained and shady garden. An easy walk to the working dock. The kitchen has ample dishes, glasses, flatware, bowls, utensils - not necessary to bring anything from home. The dining room seated our whole family comfortably for an 80th birthday party. There are three restaurants, a general store, and a bakery within an easy walk in the charming village of Tenants Harbor. For those coming from out of state (we had 5 arriving from California) it is possible to fly to Boston and take Cape Air to the Rockland Airport just 20 minutes from the house. We were sad to leave and return to our everyday lives but will cherish some wonderful memories we made together and are grateful to the owner for sharing her lovely home with us.

Gorgeous home in a picturesque setting
We stayed at The Sail Loft for only one week and had the most memorable time. We wish we could have stayed longer . The house is beautiful, very spacious with fantastic water views. Betsy, the owner, was a delight to work with and was always available when I had questions for activities etc.
Astrid, the caretaker, was also wonderful, she welcomed us with fresh flowers and fruit. Overall our two families had a wonderful time in this very special home. We would definitely want to return.

Maine Visitor
The Sail Loft is everything you could ask in a getaway from the pressures of modern living. It sits overlooking the Tennants Harbor harbor, a particularly scenic place. The view of the harbor includes a variety of water craft, a number of islands and the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. Be sure to get up early to see the way the sunlight changes the view as the sun rises. The Sail Loft itself is comfortable and cozy. You can feel the history, but without any inconvenience. The space works perfectly well for a group or a couple. You can cook for yourself or go about 50 steps to Luke's to have fresh lobster, fish, clams, etc. - the whole Maine experience. There are other excellent restaurants nearby in Thomaston and Rockford. If you want a Maine vacation, this is a great place to come for all or part of it.

Idyllic House on the Coast of Maine
The house is a beautifully furnished old sail loft with a fascinating history. It is situated on a hill overlooking a gorgeous private garden and the water. Several charming historic houses near by create the feeling of being in a village, but the privacy at the house is complete. There are wonderful places to sit and to have drinks and meals. The dining and living rooms and the deck outside the living room have water views. The garden is secluded and perfect for all sorts of activities. Walks in the area are delightful. The kitchen is fully outfitted and local produce is easy to obtain. To take a night off from cooking, one can walk a very short distance to Luke's also on the water. It has delicious seafood and the perfect feeling of an old lobster shack. Excursions by car can be easily made to Rockland and Camden, both well worth the trip for their wealth of museums, restaurants and shops. A day trip to Monhegan Island by boat is great fun. Places for swimming include the town beach and a secret quarry. Betsy is a delightful person with whom to work and her knowledge of the history of the area and of places guests will enjoy is encyclopedic. Staying at the sail loft is like a dream, and one wants to go back many times.

We really loved this home. This felt like a home, not a rental which is key for us. The views from all over the house and deck were spectacular--situated on a working harbor so you see fisherman coming in and out, the water glistening under the sunlight, the beautiful gardens and the intense aromas of roses everywhere. We are foodies and so this was a great kitchen for us. Well stocked with everything you need to make a great meal. The home was well furnished, clean, the linens soft and cozy. Great for a small family get together. Right next door is a place called Lukes where you can go and get a beer or glass of wine and eat lobster rolls and fried clams. Rockland is 20 minutes away, a sweet town with a great museum--Farnworth (a must see); Camden is 40 minutes, also an historic downtown w/good restaurants and shopping. The town beach is 4 miles away and a great place to hang and read a book or go looking for rocks and shells. Theres also a hidden quarry which my 3 boys loved as there was various opportunities to cliff dive! Betsy was easy to work with and very responsive! Thanks so much!
