REAL MAGIC:
The real magic at Wit's End happens outside. Guests notice the natural beauty from the paved road as soon as they round the last bend, cross under the wooden arch over the driveway, and make their way over the bridge, and approach the house by car. Upon stepping outside you are greeted by what feels like the Black Forest, an almost pure grove of resplendent hemlock trees. Strap on a pair of hiking shoes and more than a mile of easy to moderate walking paths await winding through the Wit's End property and connect with trails beyond our border that go for miles and miles. The property boasts 8 footbridges that criss-cross the scenic Conasauga Creek and its tributary streams. A TREE TOP DECK sits high above the creek and offers a bird's eye view of the creek and the valley beyond. In the meadow below the house there is a CREEKSIDE PAVILION with sitting area, stack stone wood-burning fireplace, and 2 Pawley's Island hammocks. It's another fabulous spot to enjoy conversation or get away from the group to listen to the bold sounds of the creek or watch the butterflies flit among the cacophony of native summer wildflowers. The pavilion also has picnic tables for dining alfresco.
The property's park-like setting has additional sitting areas, picnic tables, swings, and campfire rings in which to help you immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings. Situated at the foot of the Cohutta Mountain range, and bordering the US Forest Service, Wit's End is ground zero for exploring the dozens of mountain biking and hiking trails in the area. These trails can transport you back in time to primordial old growth forests that host some of the temperate world's most diverse plant life and carry you to pristine mountain streams, breathtaking vistas, and stunning waterfalls in the adjoining Chattahoochee National Forest, neighboring Cohutta Wilderness, Lake Conasauga Songbird Management Area, and nearby Fort Mountain State Park. The Pinhoti Trail, popular with mountain bikers, is a mere 1000 foot walk or bike ride from the property and the Benton MacKaye Trail, which connects to the famous Appalachian Trail cuts through the area as well. The ever evolving and growing Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-a-way is a mere 2 miles up the road. It would be hard to find a home better situated to take advantage of these wonderful & natural amenities.
DOWNTOWN ELLIJAY:
The great news is that civilization is not too far away if you need it. Downtown Ellijay, with its quaint town square provides shopping and wonderful variety of restaurants is just 10 miles away by paved road.

The house is very large and easily accommodated 3 couples and 4 teenagers. The youngest crew was happy in the basement where the TV, game system and pool table are housed. There was an odor issue caused by a leaky shower drain in the basement, but the host called a plumber for it once notified. The different floors are very soundproofed, you really couldn’t hear anything from one floor to the next, great for getting away. The porch was nice. We had to reset a breaker before the ceiling fans would work out there, but they created a great breeze and kept flying bugs away. The amenities and thoughtful touches in the house are numerous. We loved the separate butler’s pantry and coffee bar.
The bears made many, many appearances. There were at least 10 different bears that we could tell apart, and they are not afraid to come right up on the porch. We have pictures where the mama bear’s nose is pressed to the kitchen window while her three cubs played on top of our car. One larger male tore the top off the bear box on the side of the house one night. He didn’t manage to get into the one on the front porch. It’s smaller and boxed in on three sides. So I’d call for more frequent pickup of trash rather than use the side box. My mom didn’t get out and enjoy as much of the property as planned because the bears were so close throughout the days. They were not very afraid of people and didn’t scatter very quickly if we yelled. They posed for a lot of pictures.

First off, our hosts John and Laurie were terrific. Involved, available and tried to make our stay as good as possible. The house is tremendous. Well laid out, well stocked and comfortable. The property is beautiful and fun to explore. Every one of us had a great time. Just overall a great experience. Would book again without a doubt.

One of our best stays yet! Our family of 10 adults and 6 kids between 3-12 absolutely loved our time at Wit’s End. With seven bedrooms and tons of bathrooms, everyone had the space they needed and more. This is truly a reunion house with two large tables, two kitchens and two laundry facilities. So, instead of being able to “sleep 16”.(but you find the kitchen table that seats 8, this home can actually accommodate everyone! We enjoyed playing at the creek, walking the BEAUTIFUL grounds, hanging at the pavilion and reading in the hammocks. We took a couple day trips to nearby Lakes, went hiking and visited a nearby apple orchard (that was really a store, but was great.) Visited Blue Ridge and the town of Ellijay and did four puzzles! Loved the comfortable furniture, the layout (good for gathering and games) and were so thankful for the well-stocked kitchen and many books and magazines. Honestly, really loved this spot and would highly recommend! Even saw a Mama bear and her three cubs!

It was a nightmare. We were double booked. I booked and paid in full August of 2023. When we got there , another family was entering. They booked on another platform. We booked on VRBO - 10 months ago. I had 20 family members coming and the owner gave the other family the place. He said is was a VRBO mistake. I question - wasn't he informed when we booked and paid on 8/2023? We were without a place to go. I was sick. VRBo was not helpful in helping us find another place. We got lucky and booked a last minute place in Morganton, GA. The owner was great - she did accommodate for our last minute crisis. I was very upset that VRBO was unable to help us and I'm not sure I trust the owner with this oversight. Don't understand why he didn't know months ago this place was rented. I hope this never happens to you!

We stayed here for a few days and had a wedding ceremony with our closest family and friends. This property is perfect! It was so calming and relaxing to listen to the creek running through it. Also, the property itself is gorgeous and so is the house. We will definitely be coming back!

12 ladies from our church gathered to recharge and relax in this beautiful hidden gem in Ellijay. We hiked, shopping, cooked, played games, and relaxed in the amazing home. We will definitely return to make this an annual thing. Highly recommend!!

Wit's End was perfect for our stay. There were 10 adults and the home was exactly what we were looking for. The main living, dining and kitchen area is spacious with plenty of room to spread out and plenty of comfortable seating. The 2 large tables make meals and games especially enjoyable. The check-in process was seamless and communication with the owner was great. Sitting on the beautiful deck listening to the flow of water over the rocks in the river was truly peaceful. The outdoor space is just as beautiful as the indoor space. Already looking to book Wit's End again next year for our annual retreat.

My 3 sisters, our families, & our mother have been going on a long weekend trip for the past 14 years. This property was our absolute favorite! It was in a great location & easy to travel to. The property was surrounded by beautiful trees & streams. There were adorable little bridges & even a lookout platform. The property was great for hiking or just relaxing. The 7 bedrooms & 7 1/2 baths were just what our large group needed. There was plenty of space. We loved the huge tables for meals & the large kitchen for preparing meals. The communication with the property manager was quick & very informative. We definitely would like to book this property again in the future.

Our family of 14 had a wonderful time at Wit’s End. The house and property exceeded our expectations for comfort and scenic beauty. We spent each day surrounded by the sounds of nature. Our 6 grandchildren, ranging in ages from 2 - 6 played in the stream, ran in the fields, hiked like little troopers, and giggled until they fell fast asleep each night. We explored the area, found wonderful fishing ponds, swimming holes, and tubed down the refreshingly cold river. The owner couldn’t have been kinder to work with and we hope to return for many more years to come. Thank you for helping us to create lifelong memories with our family.

We recently returned from our second summer stay at Wit's End, and I can confirm you won't find anywhere like it! From the creeks meandering through the property to the feeling of total seclusion, it's truly a magical place. The house was recently renovated and now has an expanded main level that was perfect for our group, with two full size dining tables and two seating areas, not to mention the seating area on the porch! This allowed for the kids to be doing puzzles in one area while the adults were reading in another and lots of space for us to spread out. Can't wait till our next trip!

Of all the rental properties we've tried over the years, this was by far our favorite and the most special. It was perfect place to getaway and spend quality time as a family. The lack of cell service made this the best vacation we've had in a while! We especially loved wading in the creek and making s'mores on the screened-in porch. The interior of the home was spacious and well-appointed. Fabulous stay!

Amazing Nature Get-Away
We took our four teenage boys here for three nights and two days. We definitely needed more time! The house is beautiful, and the land truly expansive! We specifically wanted no wifi to get the boys off their phones. There was so much to keep them busy....games in the house, outside to explore, and nearby outdoor adventures as well. Thanks for opening your home to us!

Nice, quiet place
My family enjoyed the stay at Wit's End. The property was well-stocked and clean for the most part. The only issue we had was that the floor of the upstairs shower wasn't clean and we ran short on toilet paper. The pavilion below the house was nice and stocked with cut wood so we roasted marshmallows. The kitchen had plenty of cooking and baking supplies and was convenient to work in, which was nice since we didn't want to go to town for most meals.
One suggestion: the doors were incredibly squeaky, so I would suggest some WD-40 so future guests don't have to worry about waking up others.

Unplug & Reconnect
No wifi may freak you out at first, but this place is absolutely beautiful! We all ended up being grateful for the chance to unplug and reconnect with each other. The hikes around the property were wonderful and the scenery was pretty as a picture! The house included a well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, fireplaces, games and puzzles. We had so much fun hanging out that we never even went into Ellijay. We just stayed at the house the whole time. We did venture up to Barnes Creek Falls which was totally worth it. We loved this property and would totally come back here again!

Nature lover’s dream
Wit’s End was an absolutely amazing property for our family and friends. From the master bedroom, you could hear the babbling creek. Hiking trails on the property and mountain biking trails just down the road. Not having cell phone reception or wi-fi was a little inconvenient but it also let us completely unplug. This is truly an amazing property and we will come to stay again!

Family Christmas
We have rented several homes in the general area. All have pluses and minuses. This home checked all the boxes. Comfortable, roomy, outdoor fireplace, well equipped. Saturday was very cold so we enjoyed the day mostly inside. Sunday we bundled up and went in a hike through the property. Lovely views and some history too. Children loved it. Overall wonderful weekend. We will be back

This was a beautiful area to spend time with family from far away. The decks were great to spend time on, the property was wonderful to explore, and the nearby swimming holes were perfect fun for the kids. The house was comfortable for our group and well furnished for a comfortable vacation.

What a wonderful place!
Wit's End cannot be recommended enough for a beautiful getaway place. The house was very clean. The property could use some attention by removing some saplings to help with the view, but that's my opinion. Wit's End is in short driving distance to some wonderful locations for hiking, adventurous white water rafting...a nature-lover's paradise. Granted, there's no internet, wifi, cable, and one-bar of cell service, but that actually made our stay all the more enjoyable. John provided us with all the information we needed to find plenty of things to do around the area. Wit's End is definitely on our to-do-again list!

Peaceful
Our stay was rejuvinating for the soul. The house is thoughtfully decorated. We enjoyed the field guides. John's binder was so helpful in planning our daily adventures. John was quick to respond to all of our inquiries. The Conasauga songbird trail was wonderful. The drive up the mountain was beautiful and adventurous (gravel road all the way to the top). We loved our stay at Wit's End.

Perfect family getaway
This was one of the best vacations we've ever had! Wits End is absolutely beautiful and the perfect place to go to just relax and enjoy family time and nature. We had so much fun just sitting around the fire at night or playing board games - something we haven't done in a very long time. Our 17 year old didn't even mind being without Wi-Fi. In fact, he continues to ask if we can go back soon! We can't wait to revisit Wit's End!

We had three couples spend a three-day weekend at Wit's End in March 2021, and it was a wonderful post-vaccination escape! The cabin is lovely, and very spacious. We didn't even use the lower level; we stayed on the main level and upstairs. The home could have accommodated another couple easily, and then four more people who would be willing to use the bunks downstairs. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, plates and glasses, and we enjoyed several meals at the large dining table. There is also a huge picnic table on the screened porch. There are fireplaces on the porch and in the living room, and everything was very comfortable. We played games, made a jigsaw puzzle, read books, and enjoyed each other's company. How wonderful to feel "normal" after a year of COVID, in a beautiful setting. And with no WiFi, there was no danger whatsoever of a Zoom call! The creek is picturesque, and there are hiking trails right from the driveway. (Be prepared to climb some hills!) John was easy to reach and very accommodating as we made our plans, and he followed up afterwards to make sure we had a good time.We will definitely plan to come back. It's a perfect place for a family getaway, a girls or guys weekend, or a couples retreat.

HEAVENLY!!!
We found the cottage and grounds to be even more beautiful and peaceful than the pictures portray. We were there for a girl's weekend and had a lovely time. I think this was our 5th year for our girls weekend and we thought this location was our best. We loved ellijay, blue ridge, outlet mall and the BEAUTIFUL nature surrounding the house. I'm already looking at fall dates for a possible return trip with my children. IT WAS HEAVENLY!!!!

Absolutely 100% recommendation
Decided last minute to have a small get together to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday. I truly cannot give enough praise for this home and property as well as host. It was absolutely a wonderful weekend. Even had a beautiful surprise snow. We are already planning a trip back in the spring/ summer to enjoy this beautiful place in all its glory. If you are looking for at this property do not hesitate to book!

We went as two families with young kids looking for quality time together and freedom for the kids to roam outdoors. The accommodations were perfect. Our children spent hours exploring nayure, and we all especially enjoyed all of the outdoor seating options and fireplaces. We look forward to returning in the future.

Weekend getaway
We LOVED the cabin! It was very nice and was easy to check in and out. The cabin was very clean. The only thing I would suggest is getting WIFI we have young kids so we were worried with no service. There is a land line so that did help! Thank you for letting us stay.

Wit’s End Retreat
John,
What an inspiring get-away home for a really beautiful family!! So glad to find that you Folks value "family time" and those wonderful memories we make when we spend even small bits of time together.
Our visit to Wit's End was just too short, not enough time to take in all its beauty and to soak up lungsful of that mountain air! But we tried!
The kids ventured down a couple of trails and my four-year-old granddaughter played in the mud in the spring----those little white sox will never come clean!! As for me, I curled up with a new book in the afternoon, and enjoyed my FIRST s'more down at the pavilion that evening, a real "sticky" treat!---but the highlight of our time was that last morning, drinking hot coffee together on the porch while watching it rain. There's just something about coffee and the rain that creates a feeling of peace for me, especially during these days of uncertainty with our country.
So hoping you will allow us to come again, perhaps during the snow season when the trees are just wrapped in a blanket of white! Has to be awesome.
Just a heads-up---the small spigot on the kitchen sink is wobbly and could use a little attention. And we forgot to run the dishwasher---so sorry. Hopefully, Janice caught the miss.
With grateful best wishes and a prayer that we all stay safe,

We had 10 adults, a teenager, and a 4 year old, and we had the best time! The house was fantastic, but the property - oh, the property- made our stay wonderful. He hiked and walked and played and fished, and everyone truly enjoyed themselves. Thank you for sharing your home and property!

Wit’s End
Staying at Wit’s End was perfect for celebrating a 50th Birthday. The house was welcoming with lights on when zI arrived. There was plenty of room to park my camper which I pulled down from MN. Hiking down the road on the Emery Creek trail was great for us too. So glad we stayed an extra night.

Perfect place to make new memories
In the middle distance from Nashville, Greenville, and Augusta, we 9 retired missionaries gathered to reminisce and make new memories. Everybody had their own sleeping spaces with 2 bedrooms upstaires, one on main floor, and 2 downstairs. And downstairs den would have been great for movie watching from the vast library had we not laughed, chatted, played games so much, but was perfect for those quieter moments. The main floor kitchen, dining, and living area provided the girls the perfect pkace to play games and the guys to sit and talk. Loved the outside areas and hiking trails. The kitchen/dinning table was well equipped for our cooking needs and the porch picnic table was just right for alfresco breakfasts. Close enough to Ellijay, we could enjoy lunch and shopping, including apples! Will look to gather again here. Thanks again for sharing your home!

Couldn't get enough!
Our family comprised of Gramma, Grandpa, 4 parents and 5 kids under 8, just came back from Wit's End. What a marvelous experience we had together! We used the hiking trails, the fire pits, board games, corn hole, horse shoes, and just lounging by the creek, to make it a perfect time together. If you are worried that you can't use your iPad, Wifi or phone . .. don't! There is MORE than enough to do as a family. We spent each night roasting marshmallows and laughing around the fit pit, and we exchanged stories. Also went into Blue Ridge for a ride on the railroad. We made memories that we won't soon forget.
