About this apartment rental
The Howard was built in 1920 in the back yard of an c.1840 Antebellum Mansion on Lexington's swanky West Third Street. In fell into disrepair and we bought it in 2007. We turned the existing eight apartments into five renovated condos with all the modern amenities, but preserving all of the vintage charm. They are small and incredibly cozy with a great room with opening windows on the second floor.
We refinished the hardwood floors, cleaned all the window and door hardware, repaired windows, and fixed plaster. We hired one of Lexington's best architects to fit a modern kitchen into a vintage kitchen space. We fit in a laundry, dishwasher, beverage center and microwave that formerly only had a two burner stove and two cabinets.
This apartment is located on the second floor of the building. It is only 650 square feet, but thanks to our brilliant architect, it feels much larger.
We are confident that as you drive through the stone arches of Hampton Court you will realize what a special corner of Lexington it is, on the site of a former orphanage and alongside the oldest University west of the Alleghenies, Transylvania University.
PHOTOS: These photos are of the actual apartment. It is 650 sq ft (32.5 feet x 20 ft). If this seems too small for your stay, we completely understand. If you do not like what you see in the photos, we understand you choosing another property. We strive to please and feel that our apartment can fill a significant niche in Lexington travel, but realize others have varied needs not served by The Howard. Thanks to everyone who considers booking our corner of Lexington. We truly appreciate it!
If The Howard is not available for your preferred dates we encourage you to check out our two 2 bedroom rentals that are located just ten or so houses away from The Howard. They are loaded with charm and only $ 30 extra per night for the extra bedroom. They are VRBO # 846234 and # 596053. If you liked The Howard, we are pretty sure you'll like these,

We were in town for a wedding and stayed here at the Hampton court apt and it was perfect.!!! Amazing neighborhood..Incredible architecture and history, great location to walk to eat..
The first night we were there we had the rehearsal dinner and party right down the street from where we stayed.. we walked ..
We did farmers market Saturday… walked there also.!! The apt was perfect..had all we needed… Teri was super responsive .. I let them know we were coming in and got an email back within minutes letting us know all was ready..
Highly recommend a stay here.. Great apt..great location and host was spot on..!
Will definitely be back to stay next time we come to Lexington

A lovely unit in historic Lexington. An easy walk from restaurants, shops, clubs, Rupp Arena and other downtown destinations. The binder on the coffee table was filled with information. We had an amazing stay!

Just as advertised. Historical small apartment but all the necessary amenities. With ‘historical’ rental comes floors that squeak and with ‘cozy’ comes not a huge place- but it was perfect for us! I would rather stay in a place with a little character and is clean than a bland hotel room with a noisy parking lot. Will definitely stay here when we come this way again.

We enjoyed our stay here so much! It's the perfect little home away from home. The location is amazing with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. The property is well stocked with cooking basics in the pantry, shampoo, conditioner, makeup wipes, a hairdryer, lotion, body wash, etc. It had everything we needed and more! The historic property is so beautiful, tucked away on a quiet street yet in the middle of downtown. We will definitely be back! Would definitely recommend this property to anyone considering :)

My wife and I stayed the weekend to see the Lexington Lab Band. The property was well setup for our weekend stay. Walking distance to restaurants.
The bed could be a bit firmer, out side of that very nice place. We would stay there again.

What a great place to stay if you are visiting Lexington! As a first time visitor to Lexington, I was nervous about finding a place to stay in a good area. The Howard exceeded all expectations. For starters, the apartment was immaculate. It’s quite homey and in a wonderful location. The pictures do not do it justice. Walkable to great restaurants, and dog friendly. The hosts also left a notebook full of useful information regarding things to do, places to go, etc. I never heard noise from other tenants (and I had an extensive stay) and communication with the hosts was super quick. Highly recommend staying here, and I will definitely rebook whenever I come back to the area!

Great location downtown in historic neighborhood. Brought dog and was easy walkable area. Apartment is terrific - my one complaint is that the floors are really loud bc building is creaky and old/historic so I was on the second floor and it sounded quite loud upstairs every time someone walked. But owner was terrific easy to communicate and work with and it was a good place to stay!

The upgrades in this space give you all of the modern amenities without losing the historic charm of the city. The location is perfect. The owners were very responsive and helpful. I would definitely come here again!

The studio was just adorable. It was clean, and had everything we needed to be comfortable. The mattress was very comfortable, and so was the couch. I forgot my toothbrush and surprisingly I found a new one in the drawer unopened for use so I was so relieved. The location was perfect for us since we ate dinner downtown each night. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance if we chose not to drive. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a well kept, safe, and very reasonably priced stay in Lexington.

Love this special place in Lexington. The location is fantastic, the building is wonderful and the space is perfect. Will stay only here when traveling through or visiting. The host knows what they are doing and could not be more accommodating.

We loved our stay at The Howard! Exactly as described. The apartment definitely feels more spacious than 650 sq ft! Great location that is walkable to several restaurants and a brewery. Very clean, nicely decorated and furnished, well stocked kitchen, comfortable bed and nice linens. The guidebook provided contained everything guests would need to know about the area. Highly recommend!

Our reason for staying was just a place for the night to split up our 11 hour drive and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The pics are great but it was even better in person. We also looked at the book for guests and took her suggestion for dinner at the Blue Heron which we could walk to and it was delicious and perfect. Would recommend to everyone and stay there again if in the area.
