About this house rental
This beautiful 1905 New England Cottage, that was once a local bakery, is the perfect location to enjoy Connecticut, fun local excursions and activities. Hiking trails are around the corner, and a lake surrounded by rolling, golden hills is 3 minutes down the road, perfect for kayaking. So come and relax, reconnect with nature, or do both! A complimentary, chilled bottle of Prosecco will be waiting for you!
This fully remodeled, light filled, 1900 sqft home includes two working fireplaces, a large Great room, spacious living, dining, and sleeping areas, a dedicated office space, a laundry room, a patio, and a back deck. Its lay-out is convenient, with two bedrooms 2 steps up from the main floor. The bedrooms feature fresh, European style bedding. The twin beds downstairs have new green tea-infused mattresses, the sheets are manufactured by women-owned businesses, and the guest toiletries are all natural and infused with essential oils. Every bedroom has beautiful views of the park-like grounds. The fully equipped, large kitchen with spacious dining area makes it fun to cook and gather, and the private back deck and small front patio are perfect for morning breakfast and evening cocktails! There is fast WiFi and a smart TV in the living room, and, just in case you want to disconnect from it all, a great selection of board games and puzzles, books and magazines. There is also a basket with arts and crafts activities for children. Two functioning fireplaces, one in the kitchen and one in the living room, will bring a special ambiance to your evenings. To start you off, we will supply one deck box full of wood. After that, you are free to collect wood from the property yourself.
(There are also baby supplies, such as a crib, a bassinet, a highchair, and a pack & play.)
This New England Cape sits on what was once a sheep farm. The family who owned the land 200 years ago held Dorset sheep, hence the property's name, and as you explore the area, you will see street names that reflect the history of the property. The barn of the main house still has the troughs where they would feed the animals. At one point, the guest house was a local bakery, and an oven in the basement is witness to that venture. The entire property is surrounded by a wooded Land Reserve, ensuring privacy. We have deer, wild turkeys, and hawks that regularly visit our grounds, and from time to time a red fox will cross the property.
The Center of Brookfield and neighboring towns with their restaurants are between a 5- and 15-minute drive away. Kent Falls, the towns of Kent and Litchfield, at the foot of the Berkshire mountains, are a scenic 40-50 minutes away. Other charming towns close to us (within a 15-mile radius) include Newtown, Bridgewater, Roxbury, and New Milford. There are many restaurants, shops, and art galleries around. The Elephant's Trunk, the famous flea market held on Sundays in New Milford from May to October, is a 10-minute drive away.
We live in the main house on the property, and we will leave you as much privacy as you desire. We are always happy to guide you to our favorite local eateries, the hiking trails, access to the lake, and other local activities.
We are multi-lingual, and apart from English, speak Dutch, French, Swedish, and German.

Great secluded location but close enough to anything you need. The kids enjoyed the giant yard and we had a great time around around the fire pit with friends. Such a wonderful time!

Ninka's historic home is charming and extremely accommodating for a family. We enjoyed her comfortable bedrooms and the two and a half baths. Every room is thoughtfully setup for guests with towels, books, lighting for reading, and extra blankets.
The kitchen is well-stocked and spacious. There are also many good restaurants in Brookfield so eating out was a breeze.
Our family had a lovely experience and Ninka was a wonderful host.

We recently moved away from the area and needed a place to stay over Thanksgiving to visit family. The beautiful listing photos hold true to themselves. It's evident Ninka and her family truly enjoy hosting guests. Nearly any amenities you could wish for with any high end hotel are made available.
There was a surprise chest full of children's toys which ours were elated to find. Plenty of wood and kindling was made available for the two, large stone fireplaces.
Overall our experience was excellent. We'd love to stay again in the future.

This home is absolutely beautiful! It was incredibly clean and welcoming. They have literally thought of everything! There is an incredible binder with loads of suggestions on activities, restaurants, places to shop in the area. They even went to the trouble of planning out suggested day trips. There was a basket in the bathroom with different items you might need should you have forgotten anything. Lots of books and board games. The house, the area, and Ninka and Jean-Denis were fantastic. Highly, highly recommend!

Board games, fireplaces, and a friendly dog - perfect!
Our 8 year old was a bit anxious about traveling after having been socially distancing for such a big part of his recent memory. That nervousness quickly subsided when he found a beautiful yard to explore and a sweet dog to play fetch with upon arrival. He was endlessly curious about building a fire in the beautiful fireplaces and was happy to snuggle in with a movie before bed.
The adults in our family loved the beautifully decorated house, the well equipped kitchen (our culinary arts student felt right at home!), and the stack of board games. Family game night in the kitchen with the fireplace warmly lit will be a memory we'll cherish. We haven't laughed so much as a family in a very long time.
Absolutely recommend!

A European getaway 90 minutes from Manhattan
I traveled with my niece and two 11 year olds. Everyone loved the space and comfortable feel. The house reflected the European heritage of the owners. The kitchen was a chef’s delight. We enjoyed the grounds , the deck and the fire places. We melted into the beds at night. The owners prepared a detailed guide book which described the surrounding towns. We visited many. This was a very enjoyable stay so close to home. The 11 year olds enjoyed the games and books . This property left us with memories to cherish .

Amazing
This place is amazing. Beautifully kept home and lovely hosts just across the driveway. Stocked with tons of books for adults and kids of all ages, plus tons of board games, art supplies, and even badminton equipment and a net in the yard. Coffee provided and plenty of sheets and towels. They even set out a "guest manual" with all the information and recommendations we could dream of. The kids bedroom upstairs is ADORABLE; our 9 year old said it was sleeping in a doll house. Highly recommend!

Great time at a lovely home
This was our second time staying at this property -- which we just love. The home is well-appointed and comfortable and the owners are incredibly helpful and thoughtful hosts. Our trip was unfortunately interrupted by Tropical Storm Isais, which caused a one-week power outage. We returned home to New York City for that week, and the owners kindly refunded us for the days lost -- as well as stayed in touch that week to let us know as soon as the power returned. Our elementary school age kids (and we) loved the home and would highly recommend it! It's just wonderful, as are the hosts.

Lovely home in a lovely town
We spent a little over a week here with our two elementary school aged children and loved it! The house is adorable and well-furnished with many cozy touches. The owners were kind and very helpful throughout our stay as well as beforehand. The yard is large and well kept and made for many fun games with our children. And the back patio was a peaceful spot to eat dinner/breakfast or have a morning tea/coffee. We also enjoyed the nearby hiking trails and driving around to see nearby towns. We will be back soon!

Excellent experience
My wife and I stayed here with our two young kids while in from CO to visit family in Danbury. The house was perfectly suited for us and the kids and was very well appointed. It was a pleasure communicating with the owner, who also left us various games and toys to help keep our kids entertained (thank you!). The property is picturesque and the home very comfortable. Hope to visit again.

Beautiful Brookfield home!
An awesome place to stay during a recent family wedding. The home is as listed and beautiful. The house is kept in excellent condition for a classy home and the owners made sure we had a great time. I would strongly recommend this home for anyone looking for a great place to stay and still a phone call away for Uber.
