About this cottage rental

Our holiday home is situated in the countryside on a dike next to the picturesque river “Het Gein”. A typical Dutch surrounding with windmills and cos, where you can bike and walk. In the summertime you can swim in the river Het Gein.
Amsterdam is very nearby: with a bike it takes you 5 minutes to subway station Gein, which takes you in 20 minutes to the center of Amsterdam. With a car you can drive in 5 minutes to the P+R subway station of Gaasperplas or to the train station Abcoude or Weesp.
Because our house is so centrally located, all big tourist attractions are within an hour drive, such as Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans, Haarlem, Volendam, Marken, The Hague, Hoge Veluwe, Utrecht and the 'Venice of the North' : Giethoorn etc etc.

The summerhouse (now holiday home) of our farm, which was built in 1865, is situated just 200m from the city border of Amsterdam. On the first (ground)floor there are 2 bedrooms each with an individual bath room, there is a living and a large kitchen with dining table. The folding doors brings you to the big private garden which gives you a panoramic view to the surrounding pastures with grazing sheep and cows.
On the second floor you will find a very spacious loft-like lounge area and large dining table with fire place. There is also a tv with dvd player on both first and second floor.

The house has a rich history: until the 60’s the summerhouse was a cattle shed with hay-loft and the farm was leased by various farmers families. Later the land was sold by the Amsterdam municipality to the famous Dutch sculptor Nel van Lith. On the old hay-loft she gave sculptor lessons to our former Queen Beatrix. From 1995 a garden architect lived here and she designed the English/French romantic garden that is still intact today.

A lovely house in a peaceful location. Spent a happy week here with my husband and adult daughter. House well equipped, especially the mosquito nets which were definitely needed but they worked as I didn’t get any bites! We enjoyed relaxing in the evening in the upstairs living room. Weren’t able to use the garden as much as we would have liked due to the weather but did sit outside a couple of times and enjoyed watching the wildlife and listening to the birds - first time I’ve ever heard a cuckoo! Only a 10 minute drive to Weesp where we caught the train to Amsterdam. Stephanie was a great host and answered my questions before we travelled very promptly. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

There is a lovely garden with a deck where we are entertained by the birds, the mallards, the cows and the flowers . Very convenient location, we can always find a great outdoor cafe for lunch. We like the kitchen, which is large and has a gas stove.

We spent three weeks here using this charming home as a base for our travels throughout various parts of the Netherlands. It is easy to reach Amsterdam from here and our host provided us with great details about getting to and from the city. Stephanie was responsive when an issue arose with the hot water and she kept us up-to-date when a local marathon forced a road closure. The home had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. If you are looking for a quiet country get-away, in a charming setting this is the perfect place for you.

Stephanie’s place is an amazing converted barn surrounded by a lovely garden and farmland. The location is convenient to Amsterdam (25 min by train) and a short run or drive to the quaint town of Weesp. She takes pride in her property and is extremely helpful with local tips and ideas of things to do in the area. Be sure to walk to the local dairy farm for some Tasty cheeses, yogurt and milk. Very comfortable for our family of four to stay in for multiple days. We will be back!

We booked this property after previous city centre based stays, we were looking for a more rural location which this certainly meets, it is an ideal balance between rural peace and sights and only a 25 minute walk to the Amsterdam metro. The host was helpful with our delayed arrival but otherwise left us to our own devices which we prefer. It would be remiss of me not to mention some of the issues we felt were with the property, it is broadly as described, the pictures are an accurate reflection of the rooms. I think it’s fair to say some of the fixtures and fittings are showing signs of age and could do with a little refresh. One issue we were not expecting was the presence of mosquitos around the property, to such and extent it was necessary to sleep under protective nets, they were an annoyance more than a specific problem but I wish I’d known this prior to booking. In summary this is a lovely location but I ultimately feel a bit disappointed with the actual accommodation.

We had a marvelous stay in a lovely house. Everything was perfect, the kitchen, the bedrooms, the gallery. Nearby the train station, great for families. Absolute recommendation, thank you
